To support Head Carrier, Pixies will launch the first leg of their 2016 – 2017 global tour with a European run that begins November 15 in Vienna.  Tickets go on sale Friday, July 8.  Confirmed dates are below; go to pixiesmusic.com for ticketing info.

For the first time since their very early days, the Pixies spent a total of six weeks in pre-production, writing, arranging and rehearsing a plethora of songs.  Between the band’s late-80s/early 90s touring schedule and delivering an album once a year, there simply wasn’t time for more than a day or so of fleshing out their music before recording started.
“This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out,” said Pixies drummer David Lovering.  “By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make ‘Indie Cindy.’  And it was great working with Tom…he started with us in pre-production and played a big part in keeping us focused on making the best music we could.”
In addition, the band – Lovering, rhythm guitarist/vocalist Black Francis and guitarist Joey Santiago – officially welcome bassist Paz Lenchantin to the Pixies’ permanent line-up.  Lenchantin has been the band’s touring bassist since January 2014, and played an integral part in the recording of Head Carrier.  Her cool and dreamy soprano can be heard singing lead on the track “All I Think About Now.”
“I was very nervous in the beginning when I went to that first rehearsal,” said Lenchantin.  “There were these shoes I felt I had to fill and I tried to do the best I could for the fans, to make the live performances sound true to the originals. I spent three years learning to understand what being a Pixie meant, and now, my heart, spirit, and love for their music is embedded in me and I feel like I have become a Pixie.  We had been more about the history of the Pixies, but now, we are about going forward.”
“Paz is a joy to be around,” added Lovering.  “She’s very funny, and we’re having more fun than we’ve ever had as a band, we all have a blast together, on and off stage.”
All songs were written by the Pixies apart from “All I Think About Now,” which was written by Francis and Lenchantin.  The track listing for Head Carrier is as follows:
Head Carrier
Classic Masher
Baal’s Back
Might As Well Be Gone

HONKY: Texas Superboogie Trio Issues New Promo Video; Record Release Show With Unsane Tonight + Additional European Dates Announced

Corduroy is the forthcoming new full-length from long-running, Texas superboogie trio, HONKY, which features long time Butthole Surfer/part time Melvins bassist JD Pinkus, guitarist Bobby Ed Landgraf (Down, Skrew, …), and drummer Trinidad Leal (Dixie Witch). Set for release later this month via Housecore Records, Corduroy was produced by JD Pinkus and mastered by Paul Leary with artwork and layout by Ryan Everett. Drum duties were handled by a host of talented bashers, including Leal, Michael “Night Train” Brueggen (Blackula, Syrup, Supagroup), Dale Crover (Melvins), and even original HONKY drummer, Lance Farley. Guest appearances include Mark “Speedy” Gonzales and the Fantasma Horns, as well as the band’s favorite Honkette, Rae Comeau.
In an advance review of the record, Sea Of Tranquility gushes, “with songs like ‘Outta Season,’ ‘Baby Down Slow Down, ‘and the title track so full of addictive grooves, raunchy guitar work, occasional horns, strong lead and backing vocals, and just a warm vibe, it’s hard to imagine these guys falling as far under the radar as they have,” the blog further elaborating, “You can certainly hear a bit of Pat Travers attitude in spots, as on the scorching guitar workout ‘Ain’t Got The Time,’ the blues rock workout ‘Double Fine,’ and certainly the cover of the Travers classic ‘Snortin’ Whiskey.’ For some swampy country a la David Allan Coe or Willie Nelson, look no further than ‘I Don’t Care,’ a tune littered with acoustic and slide guitars that shows another side to the band. For a good ol’ slice of Texas styled rock ‘n’ roll, you can’t go wrong with Corduroy. “
HONKY will release Corduroy on May 27. Check out a new promo video from the band at THIS LOCATION, where you’ll also get a taste of “Double Fine,” initially premiered at Decibel Magazine and featuring Melvins’ Dale Crover on the drum stool, as well as first single, “Outta Season.”
For CD and blue vinyl preorders, go to THIS LOCATION.
HONKY will bring their Lone Star grooves to the stage starting tonight with a hometown record release show with Unsane. The band will play three more Texas dates in June and July before heading to Europe for a stretch of shows which include a newly-announced appearance at Zwarte Cross Festival in the Netherlands as well as Zwarte Cross Festival in Belgium with additional live performances to be announced soon.

May 18, 2016 – Roadrunner Records’ group, The Amity Affliction, have announced details of their widely anticipated new album. THIS COULD BE HEARTBREAK, the platinum-certified Australian band’s new LP will arrive on August 12th (see attached album art / tracklisting). The band – Joel Birch [Vocals], Ahren Stringer [Bass, Vocals], Ryan Burt [Drums] and Dan Brown [Guitar] – detailed the new material in a press conference earlier today hosted by former Triple J radio host / Frenzal Rhomb guitarist, Lindsay McDougall which can be viewed on the band’s Facebook, www.facebook.com/theamityafflictionofficial.

THIS COULD BE HEARTBREAK is available now for pre-order in a variety of limited edition physical bundles via www.theamityaffliction.net, with all DSP pre-orders going live Thursday, May 19th at 12:00AM local time.  All digital pre-orders will receive an instant download of the album’s gripping first single, “I Bring The Weather With Me” which debuted today along with the track’s official music video.  “I Bring The Weather With Me” is streaming now at www.theamityaffliction.net and on the band’s official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/amityofficial.

Furthermore, The Amity Affliction have announced a run of Australian headline shows taking them back to venues they haven’t played in over 4 years. After a massive arena tour in December 2015, these new dates will see The Amity Affliction getting up close and personal with their Australian fans in smaller and more intimate venues. Tickets for the upcoming dates will only be available for purchase with pre-orders of THIS COULD BE HEARTBREAK at www.24hundred.net through Sunday, May 22nd with a limited amount of tickets released to the general public the following week.  This summer, The Amity Affliction will head to the UK where they will embark on a series of festival dates and headline shows with highly anticipated sets slated for the United Kingdom’s Slam Dunk Festival and Download Festival.   Following the UK run The Amity Affliction will then touch down in the US for a string of stateside festival dates kicking off September 10th at Denver, Colorado’s High Elevation festival. For complete details and ticket information, please see www.theamityaffliction.net/tour.

Deeply personal and emotionally wrenching, THIS COULD BE HEARTBREAK is The Amity Affliction’s most transformative and revealing record yet. Recorded by producer and longtime collaborator Will Putney at Melbourne’s Holes and Corners with additional drum tracking done at Sing Sing Studios, the album finds The Amity Affliction evolving their signature powerful and cathartic song craft.  Both ambitious and grand, album standouts “This Could Be Heartbreak” and “All Fucked Up” are equal parts heavy and hopeful, fueled by frontman Joel Birch’s desperation which achieves extraordinary transcendence through radical honesty and absolute power.

THIS COULD BE HEARTBREAK follows The Amity Affliction’s ARIA platinum-certified #1 album, LET THE OCEAN TAKE ME, which proved an to be an international breakthrough for the group.  LET THE OCEAN TAKE ME marked The Amity Affliction’s second consecutive time topping the ARIA Album Chart following 2012’s gold-certified CHASING GHOSTS. More recently, the band released SEEMS LIKE FOREVER, the #1 ARIA gold-certified documentary chronicling The Amity Affliction’s history up through their epic “Let The Ocean Take Me World Tour,” which saw the band performing in front of capacity crowds around the globe, including sold-out shows at New York City’s Irving Plaza and London’s KOKO.  Furthermore, the band’s most recent single, “Shine On” came in at #25 on Triple J’s “Hottest 100” of 2016. For more than a decade, The Amity Affliction has confronted the very darkest edges of man’s existence through their music and with SEVERED TIES, 2008’s full-length debut, and 2010’s ARIA gold-certified follow-up, YOUNGBLOODS, The Amity Affliction instantly established themselves as leading force in the heavy music world.

The Crimson ProjeKCt launch ‘Red’

The Crimson ProjeKCt, the King Crimson offshoot featuring 3 current members of that historic band, will releaseLive in Tokyo‘ through InsideOutMusic on March 18, 2014. With the tour set to begin soon as well, the band have revealed the classic 70’s King Crimson track ‘Red’ taken from the live album which can be heard here:

The band had this to say:

“Red is one of the pre-80ies instrumentals that has remained an integral part of King Crimson’s repertoire up until the early 2000s. Our interpretation of this classic piece is uniquely energetic and always ‘on-the-edge’, especially the double drumming from Pat and Tobias. Markus is doubling the main guitar part in a baritone register, which adds a subtle new pushing element to the song. The roar going through the audience when we start playing this is one of the highlights of our shows for us.”

Featuring the talents of Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Markus Reuter, Julie Slick and Tobias Ralph; The Crimson ProjeKCt primarily focus on repertoire from the early 1980s through to the mid-90s. The band has a “double trio” line-up, as made popular by Crimson between 1994 – 1997. The full track-listing for the CD & Digital release can be found below:

CREMATORY Release Video For “Kommt Näher”

New Album Antiserum Available March 4th in North America on SPV

CREMATORY has premiered another video from Antiserum.  The video for the song “Kommt Näher” was directed by Dirk Weiler and can be viewed HERE.

CREMATORY no longer need to fear comparison with the international competition, Germany’s most popular Gothic Metal Band having earned itself an excellent reputation at home and abroad over the past 23 years. One reason for this is the great recognition value of their songs, along with the band’s characteristic style and their unconditional determination to continue to grow as artists. None of their albums so far are a copy of any of their predecessors; each of them is an independent recording with unique features and fresh ideas.

So if CREMATORY has decided to pick up the electronic elements fromRevolution (2004) on their latest album Antiserum, they do so with different parameters and future-oriented visions. “Our fans can look forward toAntiserum, on which we have gone one step further than we did on our comeback album Revolution in terms of electronic influences,” drummerMarkus Jüllich explains. “In collaboration with Elmar Schmidt of Hamburg EBM act Centhron, we have come up with a haunting mix of metal riffs and EBM keyboards. That’s why I’d refer to Antiserum‘s musical direction as ‘EBM-Metal’.”

As homogeneous as the final result may sound, a great deal of concentration was invested throughout to produce the desired result. Markus Jüllichconfesses: “In the beginning it was more difficult than we’d thought. The sounds and samples that Elmar brought us had no really song structures, that’s why we didn’t have a central theme to start off with.  It took us two or three songs to get in to the groove, but from that point on it was an extremely exciting process to work on the new material.”

In view of the convincing result spawned by this ‘Gothic Metal meets EBM’ liaison, we can attest CREMATORY an even more homogeneous mélange of supposedly opposing musical directions than on Revolution“We were even bolder this time than we were in 2004. We played even more with different sounds and have – in my opinion – cleverly combined real drum parts with electronic patterns. For me as the band’s drummer, it will be really exciting to see how we are going to translate this in a live context. But since it works so well on Antiserum, I’m confident that it will be a really good mix live, too.”

By the way: CREMATORY fans will be able to mark the new live dates in their diary soon. “We’ve had loads of enquiries,” Markus Jüllich enthuses.“So we will go out and tour as much as possible again to give our fans the right antiserum against frustration and tedium.”

Antiserum will be released as a deluxe box set (including flag, patch, poster, sticker, postcard), Digipak Version featuring 2 bonus tracks, 2LP gatefold colored vinyl version including 2 bonus tracks, standard version and digital download.

Release dates are: March 4th in the USA. February 21st in Germany andFebruary 24th in Europe.

The album is available for pre-order on Amazon.

NAILS: May West Coast Tour Dates Confirmed

California tyrants, NAILS, confirm a new set of West Coast shows in a headlining run at the beginning of May.

This new five-date NAILS bombing run will see Oxnard’s hardcore/crust warriors headlining all dates, with support from Seattle powerviolence duo, Iron Lung, Olympia’s putrid death metal horde, Bone Sickness, and Southern Cali-based death act, Skinfather. The tour begins May 1st in Los Angeles, the bill also including Nausea, rolls into Santa Ana on the 2nd with Violent Reaction and The Flex, then into San Francisco and Portland before closing down in Seattle with Gag on May 5th. Tickets for all shows are already available for preorder HERE.

This new West Coast incursion will take place just two weeks after NAILS hit the East Coast to take part in this year’s installment of the New England Metal & Hardcore Fest, playing the opening night of the massive three-day event which also includes All That Remains, Bleeding Through, Broken Hope, Cop Problem, Enabler, Fallujah, Oceano, Scars of Tomorrow and more. Following the West Coast tour, NAILS will return to Europe on a brutal trek in late June into July which will include sets at a wave of festivals including Tuska Open Air, Graspop Metal Meeting, With Full Force and Roskilde among a rash of additional headlining dates.

Abandon All Life, the demoralizing second full-length from NAILS, was released via Southern Lord in March 2013, unloading a murderous ten tracks showing the band’s most unhinged, heaily-amplified attacks and also their most expansive elements in only seventeen minutes, recorded at Godcity with Kurt Ballou (Converge) and mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise). The album stormed international media outlets with rave reviews and raided endless “best of” lists for the year.

‘Relations In The Unseen is not a concept album, but there is definitely a purveying train of thought overall. We all communicate, not only directly, but also indirectly through gestures, body language, thoughts and connections that are unconscious at first,” says Christoph Hessler.  Lyrically, the album concentrates on these unconscious things that influence our feelings, thoughts and reactions.  Every day we’re offered countless examples of this – invisible, unknown – over distances, times and dimensions. With Relations In The UnseenTHE INTERSPHERE have succeeded at a return to self – and to the really important things in music.

MAGNUM to Release Escape From the Shadow Garden April 1st

Not only musicians and freelance artists know this phenomenon: it’s impossible to deliver top creative performances at the push of a button. You need peace, leisure, and – most of all – a certain amount of serenity to create truly great works of art. “We used to be under permanent pressure from our record companies,” says Magnum mastermind Tony Clarkin“They kept calling us, demanding hit singles and radio numbers. But that sort of thing doesn’t work on demand. Now we’re with SPV, where it’s a totally different situation. They give us the necessary time and trust us to do the right thing. That’s probably the reason why I enjoy working with Magnum again.”

Clarkin’s regained joy in his band is omnipresent on the latest Magnumoffering, Escape From The Shadow Garden. Just like his simple yet logical work ethos: “I simply told myself: you’re a passable guitarist, so you should play the guitar. As the band’s guitarist and producer, I have all the freedom I need to create exactly what I feel like creating.”  The result of his latest burst of creativity consists of eleven wonderfully melodic rock songs, which blend all the typical Magnum ingredients, sounding in a fascinating way both timeless and classic. “This band has certain unmistakable trademarks,”Clarkin explains. “Among them are my feel for melodies and Bob’s unique vocal style.”

Only a month after the release of its predecessor, On The 13th Day, Clarkin started with the preparations for Escape From The Shadow Garden – as always an exciting phase in his life. “Before you haven’t recorded and mixed every single note, you never really know whether you’ll be happy with the result. When I heard the final version of the eleven new songs with their different stories and diverse arrangements, I knew it had turned into an impressive and complete album. Together with the great cover artwork designed by Rodney Matthews (Asia, Nazareth, Eloy), this is a release, which forges an arch to the early days of Magnum’s career. And that’s wonderful! I was really happy when my friend Jimmy Lea of Slade came to visit me at the studio again and said: ‘You’ve done it again?’ It doesn’t matter whether by sheer luck or hard work – life could have gone a totally differently way.”

Escape From The Shadow Garden’ will be release on Steamhammer / SPV on March 19th in Scandinavia, March 21st in Germany, March 24thin Europe and April 1st in the US/Canada.

Escape From The Shadow Garden’ will be available as a limited digipak edition with bonus DVD, as a double gatefold coloured vinyl LP set incl. bonus track, standard jewel case CD and download.

HUNTRESS Ends 2013 Victoriously – Ready to Start 2014 With a Fury

HUNTRESS has locked down another year of victories as a newcomer metal band. Forming only three years ago, the powerful pentad continues to deliver stellar live performances. 2013 was a landmark year for HUNTRESS, having released their sophomore album Starbound Beast, touring non-stop in support of their critically-acclaimed album, while continuing their quest to bring true heavy metal to the masses.  Their video for the song “Zenith” (directed by Phil Mucci) was ranked #3 on “Noisecreep’s Top 10 Videos of 2013“, #4 on“Loudwire’s Top 10 Videos of 2013” and won “Video of the Year on Unsung Melody.   Starbound Beast was also voted #5 in LA Weekly’s Best L.A. Metal Albums of  2013 List.

Vocalist Jill Janus spoke about HUNTRESS‘s amazing year:

“This has been an incredible year for the band, 2013 began with Huntress writing and recording our 2nd album Starbound Beastwhich was produced by Zeuss. We’ve been touring virtually non-stop — Sweden Rock Festival, Download Festival, The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, Heavy MTL, Danzig’s 25th Anniversary Tour with Doyle, and ending a wild year as the opening act for Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Testament in North America. No rest for the wicked! Our video for ‘Zenith’ (directed by Phil Mucci) was filmed during our hectic tour schedule. It surpassed our expectations and truly captured the vision of our album. It’s part of our legacy, and part of our path to rise above the glorification of mediocrity. Huntress is here for the long haul; our determination, vision and love of music will continue to be our driving force. Hail Heavy Metal!”

2014 will begin right where 2013 left off – seeing HUNTRESS join forces again with Lamb of God, this time for a European/UK tour with Decapitated. The band will also play a string of headline shows; four of which have been announced so far with more to be added soon.  See below for a complete list of all dates.

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH’s Lay My Soul to Waste Chosen as one of Revolver Magazine’s Top 20 Albums of 2013

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH has just completed a cross-country trek that included dates supporting the mighty Danzig, as well as headline shows.  The band will now take a break for the holidays and then get ready for a European headline tour in early 2014.

For the second time in two albums A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH has been selected as part of the Revolver Magazine Top 20 Albums of the Year list.  The band came in at number 18 for their album Lay My Soul to Waste that was released earlier this year via Steamhammer/SPV. (Lay My Soul to Waste can be ordered on Amazon on both CD and LP and digitally viaiTunes.)   The band was also on the list for their debut album in 2011 And Hell Will Follow Me.

“This is such an honor to make it to the top 20 album of the year list from Revolver for the second time. I am very proud to receive this recognition. It really makes all the hardships worth it and to be side by side with such great artists is an honor. Thank you Revolver Magazine”, says Abruscato.

He continues:

“We just finished our US Tour and we are looking forward to getting back to Europe for a headline run with Blood Runs Deep and finishing off at the Trondeim Metal Fest in Norway.  Thank you everyone for your support.”

The bands European tour begins February 12th in Hengelo, Netherlands and wraps up March 6thin Jyväskylä, Finland.  The band will also return to Germany this summer as a part of the Wacken Open Air Festival on July 31st.

The band’s video for their song “DMSLT can be viewed HERE.

On the surface, A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH are impressive. But you’ll want to dig deeper and immerse yourself in all the sonic and lyrical layers, because the band isn’t afraid to plume the depths of darkness that humanity is capable of.  It’s murky stuff, but someone has to do it.

After the release of their self-titled album in June, legendary Seattle rockers Queensryche will be back on tour in Europe presenting the latest addition to the band’s multi-platinum musical catalog and their new frontman Todd La Torre live to their European fans. “Queensryche” was mixed and mastered by famed Queensryche producer James “Jimbo” Barton who is known for working on the band’s classics “Operation: Mindcrime” and “Empire”. The album marks the debut of the lineup comprised of Todd La Torre (Vocals), Michael Wilton (Guitars), Parker Lundgren (Guitars), Eddie Jackson (Bass) and Scott Rockenfield (Drums).

As a special teaser for the upcoming European tour the band just finished a video for the album track “Redemption” with scenes from the studio recordings and first US shows with Todd. The video will be premiered through UK’s PROG magazine.

Check it out here:

INSOMNIUM launches lyric video for new track, “Ephemeral”

INSOMNIUM’s fifth album and Century Media debut, One For Sorrow, was one of the metal highlights of 2011: a perfect blend of melancholy and melody. Now “Finland’s finest miserablists” (Terrorizer) finally present a new song, “Ephemeral”, taken from their forthcoming album due to be released in 2014 via Century Media. “Ephemeral” marks the first track to feature new INSOMNIUM guitarist, Markus Vanhala (also in OMNIUM GATHERUM), who replaced Ville Vänni in 2011. The single will be released digitally onSeptember 23rd in Europe (November 19th in North America) and includes three acoustic songs as a bonus.

INSOMNIUM’s good friend, Olli-Pekka Lappalainen from Precis Production, created the stunning lyric video for “Ephemeral”, which can be viewed here:

Guitarist Ville Friman comments about the video: “Lyric videos can be often a bit boring but I think this video really makes an exception to this rule; all visualizations complement the lyrics and make the message of the song even stronger.”

INSOMNIUM comments about “Ephemeral”:

“After the success of our last single ‘Weather the Storm’ we decided that it would be a good idea to record some new material this summer before releasing the actual new full length album. This was also a good opportunity to explore different studios and work with different people. Just to explore our sound a bit more in terms of production. And here we are finally; happy to introduce you our new single, ‘Ephemeral’ [drums recorded by Kimmo Perkkiö at SF sound (FI); everything else recorded by Teemu Aalto at Korkeakoski Studios, Kotka (FI); song mixed and mastered by André Alvinzi and Jens Bogren, respectively, at Fascination Street Studios (SWE)]. It was a nice challenge to work on the instrumental side of INSOMNIUM and come up with music that has a more cinematic edge to it. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.”

London Grammar North American tour starts 9/25

La Roux “In It For The Kill” cover HERE

“London Grammar’s alt-soul debut proves less is more” – Sunday Times Culture

“Shaping up to be one of the most promising bands of the year” – The Guardian

“Their songs are haunting to the point they rattle the nerves” – Pitchfork

UK-based trio London Grammar – Hannah Reid, Dot Major and Dan Rothman – released their highly anticipated album last week and has entered #2 in the UK album charts. If You Wait is available digitally via Columbia Records at http://po.st/IfYouWait . The album features 11 tracks (see tracklisting below) including latest single “Strong,” which Pitchfork praised noting “Reid’s voice washes over you, clean and perfectly,” and the ethereal, haunting “Hey Now” which received much critical praise upon its release late last year.

London Grammar will celebrate the release of If You Wait with a tour across the US and Canada, kicking off with a sold-out show at Los Angeles’ famed Troubadour on September 25. The tour will see London Grammar crossing North America with stops in cities including San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto and New York before ending in Boston on October 10 (see full itinerary below). For additional information on the tour please visit http://www.londongrammar.com/live.

The band announced a new UK tour today for January / February 2014 (tour dates below) after their October/November UK tour has completely sold out.

If You Wait has received rave reviews, with London’s Evening Standard awarding the album 4 stars and describing it as “a collection of unhurried, immaculately constructed songs that showcase the wonder of Reid’s voice and the inventiveness of the duo behind her.” The Daily Telegraph praised the album’s “beautiful yearning melodies” and Pretty Much Amazing summed it up nicely, naming If You Wait “an enthralling, stunning, deeply emotive album that perfectly marries understated electronica to sublime vocals and melodies.” They continued the praise, noting “In a year dominated by titanic LPs, London Grammar have not only made the most perfectly formed debut album of the year – they’ve made one of the best LPs, period.”

Since introducing itself with near anonymous posts of two songs (“Hey Now” and “Metal & Dust”) late last year, London Grammar quickly captured the interest and, more importantly, the imagination of music fans across the UK and beyond. The tracks catapulted the band straight into the spotlight, with music critics and fans eager to see what they did next. The trio released the acclaimed Metal & Dust EP in June, sold out two London dates, played with The xx at their Night + Day festival and secured slots at nearly all of the UK’s major summer festivals – including Glastonbury, Bestival and Festival Number 6. The band will return to the UK for its own sold-out headline tour this October.

London Grammar is Hannah Reid, Dot Major and Dan Rothman.

SKELETONWITCH Marks 10-Year Anniversary With Video Premiere At Bloody-Disgusting

Ten years ago today, brothers Nate and Chance Garnette joined forces with Scott Hedrick in a new band they opted to call SKELETONWITCH. A decade later, the blackened metal powerhouse commemorates their anniversary with the world premiere of the slasher/classic horror-themed music video for “I Am Of Death (Hell Has Arrived),” a new song from the group’s highly anticipated fifth studio offering, Serpents Unleashed.
Comments Nate, “It’s never a bad time when you combine 100 beers, several bloody sheep skulls, murder in the woods and five headbanging maniacs. It’s an even better time when the end result is a killer classic/slasher video. This time we went with the ‘even better time.’ Enjoy!”

Get your slasher fix on with “I Am Of Death (Hell Has Arrived),” now playing at Bloody-Disgusting HERE.

Recorded with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Isis, High On Fire) earlier this year, and featuring artwork by John Baizley (Kvelertak, Kylesa, Baroness), Serpents Unleashed — the follow-up to 2011’s Billboard-charting Forever Abomination, and a record Decibel has hailed as the band’s “best effort to date” — sees SKELETONWITCH at their most punishing. The album — which is available for preorder at SKELETONWITCH.com in CD, LP, cassette, digital download and limited edition 7-inch collector’s box formats — will be unleashed in North America on October 29th, in Australia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland on October 25th and in the UK and the rest of Europe on October 28th. In addition, you can now pre-order the album digitally at iTunes and Bandcamp and receive an instant download of “I Am Of Death (Hell Has Arrived).”

Next month, SKELETONWITCH will initiate the massive Serpents Unleashed touring cycle by playing a handful of shows with Swedish occult rockers Ghost B.C., after which they’ll embark on a full North American takeover with The Black Dahlia Murder. The band will kick off 2014 with a stateside journey alongside Amon Amarth and Enslaved. A full list of the group’s upcoming live assaults are included below.

Since signing with Prosthetic seven years ago, a new SKELETONWITCH album has materialized like clockwork every other October. First, there was the group’s sophomore breakthrough, Beyond The Permafrost. Produced by late GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot and featuring iconic artwork by John Baizley (Baroness, Kylesa, Kvelertak), the album — and subsequent tours with the likes of Danzig, Dimmu Borgir and Amon Amarth — told the world what the rest of Ohio already knew: That SKELETONWITCH was a metal force with which to be reckoned. That album’s “Soul Thrashing Black Sorcery” would eventually be featured in the video game Brutal Legend, placing the band in excellent company with digitized versions of Rob Halford, Ozzy and Lemmy.
Then came 2009’s Breathing The Fire, produced by the legendary Jack Endino (Nirvana, High On Fire, 3 Inches of Blood). Supported by tours with Cannibal Corpse, Children of Bodom and Ozzfest, the album — the band’s first featuring bassist Evan Linger, and also their first to crack the Billboard Top 200 — caught the attention of Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, who invited the group to film a zombie-themed video for the song “Bringers of Death” that the band members still haven’t stopped hearing about.
In 2011, Forever Abomination — produced by Grammy-winner Matt Hyde (Slayer, Deftones) — saw the arrival of drummer Dustin Boltjes (ex-Demiricous), as well as a return visit to the Billboard Top 200. On the road, the group toured alongside Arch Enemy, Kvelertak, The Black Dahlia Murder and Nile before embarking on their most ambitious trek to date: A 63-shows-in-65-days test of endurance they passed with flying colors.
2013 brings us to Serpents Unleashed, the group’s fifth and latest release. Recorded with Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire, Isis) in Salem, Massachusetts (insert bad “witch” joke here), the album is another blistering helping of two-and-a-half minute blasts of blackened metal amalgamation. This time around, the band also shows off a few new tricks — note the Scandinavian doom-vibe in the opening of “Unending, Everliving” and the devil’s swing of “This Evil Embrace” — but does so without compromising the frosty/fiery/abominable metal spirit or blue-collar humility that has endeared them to so many over the past decade. Ultimately, it’s both a fitting testament to what they’ve accomplished to date, and an exciting nod toward what the future has in store.

Thomsen states “I hope they will enjoy it and they like the new direction as well as (guitarist) Terji’s bigger involvement in writing and George’s drumming. We had a more upbeat direction without changing TÝR’s style.”

Over 8,000 Faroese were in attendance as the band put on a huge set featuring old favorites, as well as new tracks, including “Blood of Heroes.” The event was filmed and a video for “Blood of Heroes” can be seen now at youtube.com.

About Valkyjra:
Valkyrja is a concept album with a story line based loosely around a nameless Viking age warrior who leaves his woman and goes off to impress the Valkyrie on the battlefield so that she may bring him to Valhalla, or to Fólkvangr, the home of Freyja—the goddess associated with love, sexuality, beauty, fertility, gold, sorcery, war, and death. One can say the album is also indirectly about women and how they affect men and what men will do to impress and obtain women. Front man and founder Heri Joensen goes on to explain; “the woman that the warrior leaves may represent the earthly women. Freyja, The Lady Of The Slain, may represent the perfection of Women, and the Valkyrie is the link between the two, taking men from earthly to godly women.”

TÝR is on tour now with Finntroll in Europe. Dates are available below as well as atfacebook.com/tyrband.
