Imagine all the elements of a category 5 hurricane, and right in the middle of that storm is the most beautiful sunset… that’s The Clay People.

Whether it’s seeing a live show, or just listening to TCP, there’s a connection made very quickly between band and audience. A sense of comfort, knowing if you had a rough day, or are feeling down, that you can count on TCP to take you away from all that

The Clay People return on Demon Hero and Other Extraordinary Phantasmagoric Anomalies & Fables, an album that captures the band at a creative peak, and was forged from what was at times a tenuous, cathartic, and finally unifying recording process.

On Demon Hero Neet takes on the corrupting influence of modern politics, the silver tongue of the modern demagogue, the ills of groupthink, and the band’s experience with the music industry. “I’ve been plagiarized. I’ve been beat up. I’ve been manipulated… .And we’ve got nothing left to lose,” Neet confesses on the anthem “Bloodletter.”.

The Clay People’s self-titled album was released on Mercury/Slipdisc records, and their furiously propulsive lead single “Awake” climbed the radio charts. The band toured with Disturbed, Stained, Clutch, Rob Zombie, Static X, Stabbing Westward, and Filter.

“Awake” was featured in films such as Strangeland, Universal Soldier 2, and Marked For Death.

The band called in extended members of its musical family to contribute to Demon Hero. Chris Wyse of The Hollywood Vampires, Ace Frehly, The Cult, and OWL, contributed bass to the band’s reinterpretation of fan favorite “Strange Day” and “Gen RX.”. Walter Flakus of Stabbing Westward, and one-time Clay People member, contributed keys. Wade Alin, who added programming to the band’s self titled release, returns on Demon Hero.

Dinsmore and McGarvey produced the album, turning to producer Neil Kernon (Nile, Queensrcyche, and Nevermore) for the final mix.

CLUTCH Postpones September Tour Dates

Maryland rockers CLUTCH have been forced to postpone the September tour dates of the “Earth Rocker” North American Tour.  This is due to a health issue with singer Neil Fallon.  Most of the shows will be rescheduled and dates are listed below.  Support on the rescheduled shows will remain the same and come from The Swordand Crobot.  Tickets that were already purchased for the dates in September will be honored for the rescheduled dates in January.  Unfortunately one of the shows could not be rescheduled and has been cancelled. This is show is Vienna, WV on 9/21. The shows scheduled for South Burlington, VT on 9/24 and Long Island, NY on 9/27 will be rescheduled for a later date, please hold on to your tickets. Refunds for the West Virginia are available at point of purchase. The band will still be playing “The Shindig” festival on September 14th in Baltimore, MD. All dates on the October – November leg of the tour will go on as scheduled and planned.  The Hampton Beach, NH date originally in September is now scheduled for October 25.  Unfortunately The Sword and Crobot will not be appearing on this new date in Hampton Beach, NH.  News about support will be released in the coming weeks.

CLUTCH frontman Neil Fallon gave an update on his condition:

“Dear friends, this week I’ve learned that a childhood injury to the neck, a genetic predisposition for spinal disease, and 20 some years of head banging will exact a toll. I’ve been diagnosed with an ugly case of cervical spinal stenosis and two herniated discs.

In some instances these conditions can be treated non-surgically.  This is not the case for me. I have been advised by several neurosurgeons that my spinal cord has already been damaged and that I risk further damage were I not to address the situation. For this reason, I’ve decided to take care of this ASAP. Believe me, re scheduling a tour turns my stomach, but I believe this is the wisest choice given the prognosis.

On Tuesday I will undergo surgery. The procedure will fuse three vertebrae together with a small titanium plate. I have faith that this surgery will go as well as it can, and that I will be back in the saddle for our October-November tour.  On behalf of my spine, deepest apologies to those who had been looking forward to seeing CLUTCH
over the next two weeks. We’ll make it up to you.”

Health and Happiness,

Neil

Clutch Bring the Earth Rock and Mountain Shock to Pittsburgh’s Stage AE

As one can see by the  setlist, it did not take long for Clutch to break into their new smash, Earth Rocker, on April 19 in Pittsburgh at Stage AE.  Even though the first five songs of the night were pulled from their latest LP (which is excellent by all standards) Clutch definitely did not let their diehard fans down by peppering the rest of the evening with just a few classics and deep cuts, but all told the night held nine tracks from their new one out of nineteen! Hmm…to the outsider one might think “ballsy”, but Clutch have always played by their own rules and it seems as though the Pittsburgh fans did not seem to mind. Their signature sound “mountain rock” buzz was humming on all pistons and kept the crowd at maximum intensity especially through “The Mob Goes Wild”.

Earth Rocker is continuing to make an impact at radio. The album is #1 at CMJ Loud Rock, and their second single, “Crucial Velocity” was added to SiriusXM channels Octane, Liquid Metal and Faction. The band has also released a lyric video for “Crucial Velocity”. WEATHERMAKER MUSIC is thrilled with this result. The release campaign began 6 months ago. We executed on our worldwide plan by integrating touring, promotion, retail and digital marketing as well as Specialty/Metal and Active Rock radio campaigns in a perfect sequence. Our partners around the world backed us up. RED Music’s extraordinary support made much of this possible. But in the end none of it would have been the same without this great album.  CLUTCH is the quintessential American rock band!” says WEATHERMAKER MUSIC Label Manager Stefan Koster.

WAYLON SPEED Releases New Album Valance

“Less is more.” That’s the mantra that Rev. Chitwood Hammaker, brothers Noah and Justin Crowther, and Kelly Ravin deployed as they converged from a honky-tonk in Burlington, Vermont, to create WAYLON SPEED.

Ever since WAYLON SPEED formed in April 2009, the four-piece brotherhood of family and past friends has toured nationally and collected fans like empties at a pig roast in support of their albums: the debut, Georgia Overdrive; their two-disc sophomore set, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades; The Boots EP and their latest effort, Valance.

The band will be headed out on the road in support of Valance this March. A complete list of dates can be found below.

The press has called WAYLON SPEED “gas on the fire of the current music scene” and “heavy, fiery country rock, for those who like their punk rock with some twang in it – but also appreciate high quality, intelligent songwriting.”

Ask WAYLON SPEED what it seeks from its stained-blue-collar, straight-up-from-the- underground rock, and the answer is simple: make people happy. The evidence is at their aim-to-please shows, where audience connection is a priority.

WAYLON SPEED has shared bills with: Jane’s Addiction, Clutch, Little Feat, Reba McEntire, Elvis Costello, Primus, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. They have been influenced by bands such as: Motorhead, Fugazi, The Mother Hips, The Drive-By Truckers, and Frank Zappa. Waylon Speed’s influences are not mainstream music.

Lineup:

Noah Crowther – Bass and Vocals

Justin Crowther- Drums

Chad Hammaker – Guitar

Kelly Ravin – Guitar and Vocals

3/16: Burlington, VT @ Nectar’s

3/21: Norwich, CT @ High Noon Saloon

Interview with Bob Meadows of A Life Once Lost (In Pittsburgh at Garfield Art Works 12/14)

A LIFE ONCE LOST roars into Pittsburgh at the Garfield Art Works next Friday, December 14 with Revocation and Ken Mode. Bob Meadows, lead vocals, took some time to speak to Pittsburgh Music Magazine about the frustrations of the music business, playing Pittsburgh, taking and giving vocal lessons, their new release “Ecstatic Trance”, and the inspiration for the lyrics behind “Madness is God”, check it out by listening here…

A LIFE ONCE LOST has existed on the forward edge of modern metal, where progression and innovation collide with tradition, since its inception. From day one, the path the ALOL have blazed has not only been defiant but also their own.
A LIFE ONCE LOST was formed in ’99 in the Philadelphia suburbs by Doug Sabolick (guitars) and Bob Meadows (vocals). The nascent band immediately forged a noisy, high-impact wall of sound combining dissonant, modern aggression with the hallmarks of traditional metal. Almost as soon as ALOL had songs, the band started cutting their teeth in the Philly-area DIY circuit playing alongside their peers in Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Lamb of God, God Forbid, and more.
Early releases followed on Deathwish, Inc. and Robotic Empire, and ramped up to 03’s punishing ‘A Great Artist’, their first proper full-length. ‘A Great Artist’ saw them take hold of their dark, rhythmic sound and took A LIFE ONCE LOST from a Northeast favorite to a true national band. It was the catalyst that enabled them to get signed to Ferret Records and to then embark on their first national tour(s) alongside Between the Buried & Me among others.
Then ALOL released its’ sophomore album, the more refined ‘Hunter’, in ‘05 and moved to the forefront of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. The band conquered America for the next 2 years touring as part of Ozzfest 2006, as well as direct support tours alongside Lamb of God, Clutch, Opeth, Strapping Young Lad, As I Lay Dying, Every Time I Die, High on Fire and more.
Their 3rd album ‘Iron Gag’, released in ’07, saw significant critical acclaim. That album had ALOL introducing traditional rock grooves and a more confident swagger into their already-explosive sound. The ensuing ‘Iron Gag’ tour saw the band crisscross North America and Europe, from Alaska to Mexico and London to Moscow respectively, once again alongside High on Fire; The Dillinger Escape Plan + new tour mates, Suicide Silence, and Job for a Cowboy.

At the end of the ‘Iron Gag’ World Tour in ‘09, they begin practicing again only to find fractures in the band. After a year plus of writing, Sabolick and Meadows were faced with their most difficult decisions yet. In order to realize their vision for the next evolution of A LIFE ONCE LOST, they needed to scrap almost all of the new material; cut ties with the other members, and start again on their own.

ALOL’s process was arduous, and required Bob Meadows and Doug Sabolick to rebuild everything from the ground back up. The writing process was intense while the two tried to meld a diverse range of influences – Killing Joke to Can, King Crimson to Kraftwerk, Fela Kuti and more – while respecting and remaining true to the sonic art that they had always traveled.

Three years in the making, A LIFE ONCE LOST’s new album ‘Ecstatic Trance’ (Season of Mist), is the product of that unwavering determination and raises their patented rhythmic attack to hypnotic new levels of precision and expression. Huge, jagged riffs and churning, syncopated rhythms are the blueprint for the emotive guitar-playing and explosive vocals of Sabolick and Meadows respectively. Dark washes of melody and ominous Hammond Organ tones color epic tracks such as “Madness Is God, “Something Awful”, and “The Blues”, giving their material a bold, raw sense of expression unlike any they’ve shown before. ‘Ecstatic Trance’ is one of 2012’s best metal albums, and proves that the path of A LIFE ONCE LOST is always moving forward.

SPIRALARMS Announces “Revivalution Tour 2012”

Heavy rockers SPIRALARMS rose from the ashes of millennial bands Systematic, Forbidden and Manmade God. This sextet has one mission. That mission is to uplift today’s music scene by bringing true heavy melodic rock to the forefront. To help accomplish that task, the band has announced a six day tour of California (and Reno, NV) that will take place throughout the month of November.

Directly supporting SPIRALARMS will be California rock n’ rollers ZED and alt-rockers SWERVER will open each show. See directly below for all current tour dates and learn more about the tour at www.facebook.com/Revivalutiontour.

“REVIVALUTION TOUR 2012”
SPIRAL ARMS W/ SWERVER and ZED
11/8 – West Hollywood, CA @ Whisky A Go Go
11/9 – Merced, CA @ Star Club
11/10 – San Jose, CA @ Blank Club
11/15 – Reno, NV @ Jub Jubs Thirst Parlor
11/16 – South Lake Tahoe, CA @ Whiskey Dicks
11/17 – Cotati, CA @ Spancky’s

SPIRALARMS

Friends since the age of 15, Tim Narducci (Lead Vocals) and Craig Locicero (Lead Guitar) bonded over their love of heavy metal and hard rock music. Although the two remained friends throughout the years, they both went their separate ways and started bands of their own. After years of playing with their respective bands, the two friends contacted each other and decided it was time to start playing music together again, and in 2004 SPIRALARMS was born. Rounding out SPIRALARMS is Cornbread (Bass/Vocals), who had recorded and toured the US and Europe extensively with the band Vicious Rumors, Brad Barth (Keyboards), Anthony Traslavina (Guitars) and Ron Reeden (Drums).

Last, the band is no stranger to the road. With multiple West Coast tours, a U.S. tour in 2010, the band is comfortable with the hard work of touring to build a core audience. SPIRALARMS has also been active playing out live supporting such acts as Black Label Society, MSG, Kill Devil Hill, and performing at Graspop 2007 with Iron Maiden. The band is currently finishing their new album, Freedom, set to be released soon.

ZED
San Francisco Bay Area’s ZED takes it cues from the greats like Zeppelin, Sabbath and AC/DC, but combines them with their contemporary musical influences such as Clutch, Rage Against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age, creating a mixture that is new, yet familiar. ZED is Pete Sattari (Guitar/Vox), Rich Harris (Drums), Greg Lopez (Guitar), and Mark Aceves (Bass).
In April 2010, ZED released their first full-length album, The Invitation, which they had been brewing in the studio for over a year. The Invitation has a hard driving, aggressive sound but with solid groove that can’t be ignored. In June of 2012, ZED entered Sonic Room Studios with SPIRALARMS’ Tim Narducci engineering and producing their follow up to The Invitation. Word on the street? It’s their best work to date. The album is due this fall and will be included in their set during the Revivalution tour.

SWERVER
San Jose, CA veteran band SWERVER consists of Jimmy Arceneaux (Guitar/Vox), Dan Lawson (Drums) and Stevie Loveless (Bass). The band has been known to deliver heavy riffs, wrapped in memorable hooks, all served up with a slightly darker tone than their contemporaries. Tapping into heavy topics such as depression, racism, and various addictions, SWERVER reaches out to the fans who listen to music, rather than those who just hear it.

Frontman Neil Fallon commented on the the recording process for Earth Rocker and how it differs from other CLUTCH albums:

“Last minute overdubs are fun. Harmonicas, tambourines (yes, we use those), claps, the odd backing vocal. Recording can be monotonous, so those unintended moments can be a lot of fun. It’s kind of like kindergarten music class, but with beer. And sometimes the spontaneity of a last ditch idea breathes a lot of life back into a song that we’ve been beating up for weeks on end. A looming deadline can be a great muse!”

He continues, “It has a lot in common with Blast Tyrant in that Machine’s production techniques are really unique. It differs from Blast Tyrant and a lot of other CLUTCH records in that, overall, the songs are faster and concise.”

When asked about how this record how it differs from other CLUTCH releases guitarist Tim Sult added, “As far as the composition of the songs go, this is the heaviest and fastest CLUTCH album to date. ”

CLUTCH will also take to the road starting on Halloween for a quick run of dates including two stops in Flint, MI and two stops in Detroit, MI. MonstrO will open these shows with Lionize providing direct support. .
