Chicago based, Progressive Instrumental Rock band COYOTE MAN has released a fresh visualizer for their new /single, “Time Crystals.” Directed and edited by Chuck Clybourne (Sacred Ape Designs), “Time Crystals” features enigmatic, “dark age comic” art, reflecting the mystifying theme of the stunning single, designed by Craig Horky and is the band’s 4th single.
“Time Crystals” was a cool topic we came across, about a new matter recently discovered. We cannot even begin to fathom what it truly is but we found the title interesting and romanticized the idea of being able to transcend time. As if you were able travel to different moments of your life. Like a place you can visit. But like always, we leave it up to the listener to create their own meaning.” – COYOTE MAN
VIOLENT IDOLS blazes into 2021 for REVENGE with the official music video for their blistering sequel to 2020’s Idolatry, that featured AEW Jon Moxley’s theme song, “UNSCRIPTED VIOLENCE,” as well as collaborations with hard rock heavy weights such as Andy James (Five Finger Death Punch), Aaron Nordstrom (Gemini Syndrome), and K.A.Z (VAMPS). The single was produced and mixed by KANE CHURKO at The Hideout Recording Studio in Henderson NV with the video directed by Steffen Orozco, “REVENGE” showcases the raw intensity that the band has become known for while blending industrial and electronic elements into a style that has become uniquely their own. “REVENGE” sounds exactly like you want it to, exploring the dark side of humanity within a track that is both powerful and heavy while confidently flirting with commerciality via the sonic wizardry that Churko is well-known for.
”This band has always been about looking the monster inside right in the eye and staring it down. REVENGE is no exception. With social media we all always seem so caught up in only showing our best selves. But that’s not all we are. You really only know somebody after you’ve seen the worst side of them. Yourself included. When you confront the depths of your own darkness, you begin to lift that veil.”
“It’s easy to say you’d turn the other cheek while sitting in an ivory tower. But when the blood of someone you love ends up on the hands of your enemy, what do you do? A lot of people don’t like to ask themselves that question. They don’t want to know what the monster inside of them looks like.”
2021 is poised to be a tremendous year for VIOLENT IDOLS as they ready their second EP and continue their pattern of collaborating with some of rock music’s biggest names. VIOLENT IDOLS have managed to rack up millions of streams in their first year as an unsigned independent band. Proving that music doesn’t have to be “safe” to sell, there seems to be no shortage of excitement over the bands artistic output thus far. The lyrics of “REVENGE” ask “Where does it stop? Where does it end?”. However, it’s clear with this release that REVENGE is just the beginning of huge things for this mysterious and enigmatic Las Vegas band.

“Mountain Song” LIVE 1/12/2021 at 12:00 pm EST
– Hot on the success of their cover of FAITH NO MORE’S legendary 1987 single “We Care A Lot,” SLAVES ON DOPE’sJason Rockman and Kevin Jardine, along with Bill Kelliher of MASTODON, are back with their project, THE KINGS OF QUARANTINE, this time with a brilliant cover of JANE’S ADDICTION’S iconic 1987 “Mountain Song.” The new video features a myriad of artists including Wes Borland (LIMP BIZKIT), Tanner Wayne (IN FLAMES), P-Nut (311), Louise Post (VERUCA SALT), Richard Patrick (FILTER) and, Bert McCracken (THE USED). “We hope to not only put a smile on people’s faces, but also help the touring staff that have been severely affected by the pandemic”, says Jason Rockman. One hundred percent of the profits will be donated to Roadie Relief, a fundraising effort to aid qualifying Roadies who have submitted an application for financial help.
After the success of their first release “We Care a Lot,” which brought awareness to the cause and stands at 370,000 views on YouTube and counting, THE KINGS OF QUARANTINE have no plans of slowing down!
Almost everyone you know has seen a concert that has moved them. Those productions can take over 100+ traveling crew members to set up by the time doors open.
Before and during the show they sweat and hustle to get everything ready. After the show they spend more hours erasing evidence that they were ever there at all. Many of these key players work an average of 20 hour days, then move on to the next city to make it happen all over again.
Many of these crew members, “roadies,” have been doing this as a career for decades. Some of these roadies, while experts in this field, have never had any other job experience. Since the world pandemic, well over a hundred thousand of these people are left with no income and no financial assistance.
There are no concerts or live events for the foreseeable future. At the beginning of 2020, job opportunity ceased to exist and 2021 remains uncertain. Many are unable to claim unemployment as their expert level trade skills are not recognized and they do not qualify. This on-going problem is leaving 100s of roadies without a secure livelihood.
The government has fallen short. Contacting congressmen and women, senators, and governors to raise the issue has been met with no resolution. Their replies are a formal brush-off and roadies are left hitting a dead end.
The goal with this gofundme is to offer some relief to some of the dedicated people in the roadie community. Just like you, they have families, mortgages, car payments, and day care. Commonly these workers lean on their savings between tour cycles, but those funds have run thin or run out. Please donate if you can, every little helps.
December 7, 2020 – Rock / Americana band ROYAL HORSES has released A Modern Man’s Way to Improve. The band’s debut record, A Modern Man’s Way to Improve was selected as an official release for Record Store Day 2020 and is available to download and stream on all platforms.
“A Modern Man’s Way to Improve is a genre bending love letter to the sounds that shaped the new South and us along with it.” – Royal Horses
Forged deep in the Piney Woods of South Mississippi, Royal Horses embodies the very best of what the region has to offer.
Featuring lyric-driven melodies that pay respect to the musical genres that helped shape the New South, including 70’s rock, early blues, rockabilly, and folk, Royal Horses has managed to create a name for themselves the old-fashioned way – one high-energy performance at a time. The trio often bends genre norms while blazing a new path for themselves in modern music. The result is a gritty, yet powerfully-unique sound built on the strength of an undeniable musical chemistry.
Buffalo, NY based Hard-Rock / Metal-core band UNTIL I WAKE has released the official music video for their new single, “Foundations.” The band’s fifth single since their debut release in early 2020, “Foundations” was produced by Nick Matzkows with the music video directed by Alex Kouvatsos at Blackwolf Imagining.
“‘Foundations’ is Until I Wake’s 5th release since our debut earlier this year. This is a story that centers around distrust in a relationship.” – UNTIL I WAKE
UNTIL I WAKE is a four piece Metal-core/Rock band from Buffalo, New York with explosive energy, a good look, a fresh new vibe, and a unique sound of their own that has been compared to bands such as Asking Alexandria, Underoath, Saosin & We Came As Romans. Since their debut on January 25th, they have landed multiple tracks on Spotify’s Editorial Playlists and have hit over 1.5 Million Streams as an independent band.
TONY HARNELL (the former voice of Norwegian/American band TNT) is racing ahead with one eye in the rear-view fronting ECHOBATS, a new allstar, quarantine inspired project alongside WHITESNAKE/TSO guitarist JOEL HOEKSTRA (guitar), NIGHT RANGER’S ERIC LEVY on keys and the tight, crackling rhythm of MATT (MR.BIG, ACE FREHLEY) STARR’s kit and JAMES LOMENZO’s (WHITE LION, MEGADETH) bass. Highway fidelity for self-isolating rockers! …Featuring cool classic melodies, hi octane rocking and unmistakable vocals to chill out to.
“Save Me From Loving You,” mixed by Chris Collier, is the surprise new summertime, 70’s Glam-infused single that brings a Penny Lane-style spark to the pop side of Harnell’s sound with the bite of this banging EchoBats band. Highway fidelity for self-isolating rockers!
“The lyrics for ‘Save Me from Loving You’ are ironic for such a happy song! They’re kinda dark; describing someone who’s pretending to be something that looks good to the world while hiding a dark and empty soul. I think, against the happy melodies, it gives it a kind of cinematic mood. “Isn’t there more to you than shine, or are you an empty room”. A friend of mine described the song as Bop-Noir:) I kinda like that!
The video for ‘Save Me from Loving You’ is just us using what we had around us in quarantine; I’m in England and had a phone booth nearby and the guys were at home across the US!
It was totally off the cuff and fun. The music and melodies are kinda 60’s/70’s, and I went with that for my shots, and Arielle edited the video with that energy and flair.” – TONY HARNELL
“Nothing could be more welcome in this paranoid pandemic than a paisley perfect throwback love song. Tony Harnell and his electrified Echobats have crafted a deliciously infectious, instant summer classic. I dare you to find someone to save you from loving this song.” – Lonn Friend, author, Life on Planet Rock
“While Echobats members like singer Tony Harnell and guitarist Joel Hoekstra are known for raucous ’80s-style hard rock, ‘Save Me From Loving You’ finds them riding an effervescent ’60s pop vibe. The style is classic, the sound a bit more modern, and it makes for a fun summertime tune.” – Bryan Reesman
“Tony has been innately gifted with a gorgeous tone, pure soulful emotion and a limitless range. Truly a rare and unique voice. No question he is easily one of my favorite vocalists.”- James LaBrie-Dream Theater
California born, NYC bred, Tony Harnell’s music journey took off at 21 when he signed his first record deal with Mercury Records. Since then he’s been a fan favorite whether on his own, leading the Norwegian/American hard rock group TNT, or as the front man for the Tony Harmell & The Wildflowers featuring Bumblefoot.
A critically-acclaimed vocalist, Grammy winner, and Hall of Fame Inductee in Norway, Tony has sold millions of albums and received numerous gold and platinum awards. With multiple top requested MTV videos, sold out concerts worldwide, and a lifelong passion for music, Tony is considered by fans, critics, and peers alike to be one of the greatest rock voices of all time.
“From his early days in TNT, to his various projects and collaborations along the way, he has proved time and time again that he isn’t afraid to take risks and reinvent himself.” — Myles Kennedy-Alterbridge/Slash
For Tony, it’s always been about the music. Growing, creating, becoming the next best version of himself as a singer, songwriter, and performer.
In 2019 Tony released two albums. Starbreaker “Dysphoria” and Lovekillers.

Legendary Comedy Metal Band PSYCHOSTICK has been live streaming their hilarious “Cabin Fever Concerts” every Thursday (on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook) for the past 2 months to help keep people sane during the Spring 2020 shelter-in-place, and fans have enthusiastically turned out with every week. Along with their shows, the band has donated over $9,000 to various charities–a different charity every week–so far to fight COVID-19, and expect to break $10,000 in donations this Thursday, May 14th.
“Perhaps I’m losing my mind, but I’ve laughed harder at certain points during these past 8 streamed performances than I have in years. It’s more casual than a typical concert, it allows for more spontaneous insanity. We’ve been having so much fun being weirdos and messing with our fans in the chat on these streams that it feels as if it’s breaking the unspoken “be scared of everything all the time” rule…. yet there it is, and fans have been saying the most heartfelt and appreciative things to us because of it, that it’s the highlight of their week and it helps them to set down their worries about the world for a little while.” – Josh
“After so many years of computers ruining the lives of all people, we’ve finally found a good use for them: Performing comedy metal music LIVE on the internet! Even better, our amazing, smelly fanbase has helped raise money for tons of charities! Does it get any better than that? NO!” – Rob
“It’s also nice to be able to play some of our old deep cuts from old albums that we’ve never performed live before. Which means I’ve actually had to practice my instrument a lot, which I hear is a good thing to do when you’re a musician.” – Josh
“We’re all so grateful to be able to take comedy metal and SMASH it together with charity. It’s crazy how many people have been coming together online to watch, donate, and make a difference while in their underwear on an easy chair. Computer Technology! The wave of the FUTURE!” – Matty J
“We may not be able to control much right now, but we can control how we choose to act in the face of a tough situation. We choose to play music to try and bring some levity to the world. Our fans choose to join us online, those who can donate have been amazingly generous, and pretty much everyone gets to throw down in the chat pit!” -Alex

Starting May 1, fans will be able to listen to Greatest Hates headbangers like “Fire Your Marketing Guy” and “Get Slaughtered On Shark Tank” on Spotify and YouTube.
To create the album, Liquid Death worked with Gus Rios (Malevolent Creation, Divine Empire, Upon Infliction), Matt Laplant (Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Nonpoint, Skindred, Malevolent Creation, etc.), Seth Ringler (Upon Infliction), Torin Ridgeway (Arsis), and Jim Malone (Arsis).
Recent Billboard-charting band BLACK HEART SAINTS has once again raised the bar by unveiling a new subscription-based streaming service called Black Heart Saints TV (BHS TV). The Black Heart Saints TV app gives fans a Netflix-style experience that offers new and exclusive content, such as the band’s latest offering “Misery: The Film” — a short film based on the band’s music videos. The service also features original comedy skits created by members Mark Sean and Josh Ross, as well as live videos and interviews.
“With the launch of our own TV app, we’ve made a commitment to give fans what they want: regularly updated, exclusive content with higher production value than you’ll see on a typical band’s Facebook livestream. I challenge any record label out there to do the same for their signed artists — but don’t forget who did it first!” – Mark Sean (guitarist of Black Heart Saints)
Black Heart Saints recently debuted on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts Top 40 with the song “Lines”, and continues amassing fans despite the hardships created by the worldwide pandemic. The band hopes to announce rescheduled tour dates for late summer/early fall of 2020.
After debuting at South by Southwest Festival, this powerhouse quartet has been building a solid reputation as a support act for national touring bands such as Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators, Sevendust, Steel Panther, Pop Evil, Buckcherry, Stryper, Dirty Honey, and more.
The soaring vocals of front-man Josh Ross have drawn comparisons to Myles Kennedy and Chris Cornell. While the band is influenced by the likes of Mötley Crüe, Guns ‘N Roses, and other legendary Hard Rock acts, the commanding presence of Black Heart Saints’ live show brandishes an updated take on the genre.
Quickly conquering some of the biggest stages and festivals in the United States, Black Heart Saints has built an impressive resume, and has been recognized as one of the nation’s top emerging rock acts.
The band’s latest release, Misery EP, which features an accompanying film based on the band’s music, has received rave reviews: “When I first heard opening track ‘Lines’ I knew Black Heart Saints were onto another winner. The song, which comes across like a heavier take on ‘Southern Harmony-era’ Black Crowes, is something special indeed and a great way to start this four track EP. Just to make sure you are sat up and paying attention then ‘Crazy’ muscles in, it’s a big-riffed stomper that smashes the door down making it another great opening to a Saints’ release.” – The Rock Pit (Australia)
“Take advantage of this now. Hit those local shows while you still can, grab that grainy IG video proof and a moment to meet & greet the guys before they’re selling out stadiums and you miss that opportunity.” – Kail Rose (dRiFFt)
Legendary Comedy Metal Band PSYCHOSTICK are looking to relieve the anxiety and boredom of social distancing with a series of FREE, live stream “Cabin Fever Concerts” every Thursday at 5:00 pm EST. In true form, the foursome will be performing and interacting with fans in real time, providing a unique interactive experience!
The Chicago based rockers are also reminding music fans to continue to support bands by listening to streaming services, watching videos on YouTube, and buying merch online to support their favorite bands to ensure we all make it through by fighting back with humor, music, and cautious optimism!!
…and wash your hands…
“We recently started poking around at the idea of performing over the internet, live, all while interacting with the fans and viewers. Our amazing fans showed up and supported us right back, and it’s so amazing that this sort of thing can be done in such strange times. Any band can do this, and I encourage those performers out there who are unable to tour or play regular shows to look into live streaming. You just might surprise yourself at how well you’d do.”
“If people can’t go out to shows, then we’ll come to them in their homes… so heat up a bowl of ramen noodles and let’s have some damn fun. Just because we’re not supposed to leave the house doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to have fun.”
“Psychostick’s ‘Cabin Fever Concerts’ are fun because THE WHOLE WORLD is invited! No matter how far apart we are, we can all get together safely to have a kick-ass time online! You don’t have to worry about parking or how you’re gonna get there/home (all drinking, NO driving!) You can watch a Psychostick concert from ANYWHERE in your underwear, your birthday suit, BDSM gear, etc… It doesn’t cost you anything and there’s no hidden fees (lookin at YOU Ticketmaster / Live Nation). If you like what we’re doing and feel like supporting us, anything helps, even just watching us for free and having a good time. Who knew brutal riffs and crunchy metal could be so positive?”
“Streaming live concerts offers musicians a chance to perform for people all over the globe in real time. To me, it seems like a fantastic opportunity to help the world develop a global mindset to not only work together, but to enjoy art together as well. If you agree with that, then you have to agree that songs like “Scrotal Torment” and “Thinkin’ With Yer D” are indeed…art.”
All gigs are off but DEVILSKIN will transport you ONSTAGE for their Homegrown 2018 performance!
Unlike a typical live-stream, you can view the concert in 4K 60fps using the YouTube App on a VR headset, tablet, smartphone, smart TV, or in a browser on your computer. We put you onstage and amongst all the action.
VR provides fans with a 3D view of the concert from ‘the best seats in the house’. If you don’t own a VR headset you will still get an immersive experience by tilting or dragging on the screen to manipulate your view.

“We really took our time with RED, “Martin enthuses, “we had the vision and we knew it had to be done right. The songs each have so much life and we felt a real duty to do them justice. There are some really personal and very real moments on this album. We absolutely did not hold back, there are songs about struggle, depression, suicide and loss and there are songs about strength, hope, victory and love. We demoed almost 30 songs for this album so we had a lot of work to do to narrow the list down. One of last songs we wrote, it almost missed the cut too, but the throat punch we call Do You See Birds opens the album and sets the tone on a real rollercoaster of a ride. We felt it was especially important to give the listener a total immersive experience from start to finish. There’s lots of mood, colour and texture in the songs as well as between them. It’s a trip.”
The amazing response of the first two singles “Endo” and “All Fall Down” show the promise this album holds. Both songs receiving high rotate radio play and amassing serious numbers online.
From the epic moodiness of “Blood & Bone,” the caged rage of “Same Life,” the visceral impact of “The Victor,” to the poignant beauty of “Sweet Release,” the resplendent grandeur of “Bright Lights,” right through to the swagger of “Be Like The River” and the manic fury of “Everybody’s High But Me,” Devilskin have bared their soul with their finest performances yet.
The album will be released digitally on all the usual formats, physically via CD and LP and there will be a limited edition deluxe box set.
Devilskin is a four piece band from Hamilton New Zealand formed in June 2010, they already have guts, class, kudos and confidence. The sum total of a determined and accomplished group of musicians who know what they want, the music is organic, dynamic and real.
The band features the spectacular Jennie Skulander on lead vocals. Her powerful and compelling voice and alluring stage presence sets her apart from any vocalist New Zealand has put up so far. With an unerring gift for melody, Jennie’s incredible voice sweeps from whisper to roar, rips with power, drips with melody and captivates with sincerity.
Jennie previously fronted Rotorua band Slipping Tongue garnering a swathe of fans with their videos, EPs and album. Slipping Tongue also impressed many when they opened for Coheed & Cambria in 2008.
On lead guitar is Nail from popular Waikato band Chuganaut who won the NZ Battle of the Bands and the World Battle Of The Bands in 2004. Played BDO in 2005 and opened for Iron Maiden at Mt Smart stadium in 2009. Chuganaut has played numerous national tours and released several singles, EPs, videos and an album. Nail’s searing guitar work and high energy performance bring real intensity to the live show.
Playing bass guitar is Paul Martin, known as the Axeman from arguably, New Zealand’s most popular radio show, the Axe Attack. Lead guitarist and vocalist for World War Four, Paul’s previous bands include Knightshade and Blackjack. He has opened for Black Label Society (2006), Heaven & Hell (2007) and Motorhead twice (2008), and played BDO (2009). Paul’s powerful and aggressive bass style is a propulsive force in the bands sound.
Nic Martin joined Devilskin as drummer in August 2011 at the age of 15. Paul’s son, Nic is the youngest artist to ever play the BDO when he performed with World War Four in 2009 at the age of 13. Nic adds to the show with a real display of power and passion on the drums. With a fierce style all his own and the inexhaustible energy of youth, Nic’s truculent style and showmanship are fast becoming a talking point on the NZ live music scene. Not to mention making Devilskin one of the few bands featuring a father and son in their line-up.
Together, Devilskin have the ability to write songs that have depth and passion. They create a compelling and irresistible sound and perform a stunning, explosive, live show.
Austin, TX’s Destroyer Of Light are a group that ties the past to the present, merging the crushing instrumentals of modern day doom with the soaring vocals and guitar solos of classic metal acts like Dio. One look at the dramatic, mythologic artwork for the newly released Mors Aeterna (Argonauta Records), and it’s clear that the members of this band have a real soft spot for the 80’s.
Hell, the riff that kicks off album opener “Falling Star” is downright bluesy, like Stevie Ray Vaughn playing a flaming guitar at the gates of the underworld while the three-headed dog Cerberus prowls behind him. Frontman Steve Colca sounds like a slightly more intelligible Brent Hinds (of Mastodon fame), and, come to think of it, the sludgy, stoner metal vibe the group conjures on this song does kind of remind me of a less proggy take on that classic Atlanta band’s sound.
The artwork for Mors Aeterna also demonstrates the best thing about Destroyer of Light: they know how to have some fun. The scene looks like something from an especially crowded John Martin painting; a Zeus-looking dude paddles a boat across choppy waters, fending off the submerged Damned with an oar while Death himself stands at the prow; looming behind all of this is a massive, many-armed, scythe-baring aquatic she-monster. It’s so excessive that it’s actually kind of awesome. Similarly, Destroyer of Light’s anthemic vocals, massive riffs, and lyrics about “realms of spirits,” “the face of death,” etc. are so dramatic that they transcend pure gloom n’ doom, making for a good time. Great song and band.
Today’s listen is a new release coming to us from “mountains and maws in Colorado and Washington.” Bull Of Apis Bull Of Bronze is a black metal band from out West, and they’ve harnessed a truly powerful force with the song “What Awaits Us (A Void Is But An Open Mouth).” A nearly eleven minute epic, the song features everything from brooding, atmospheric guitar interludes to pummeling blast beats and anguished, howled vocals, and ends with an outro that sounds like an earthquake happening in outer space. It’s an intense listen, but it doesn’t drag, despite its hefty run time.
The song is elevated by some poetic and evocative lyrics from vocalist and synthesizer-ist Achaierei; they touch on themes of destruction and rebirth, as well as transcendence from false beliefs and traditional patterns of thinking. Also I didn’t know that “At the end of all things is a mouth made of light/Teeth dripping like stars/Sharp as the edges of our perception,” but I’m looking forward to seeing that some day, because it sounds pretty wild. In all seriousness, I respect the members of Bull Of Apis Bull Of Bronze for being open about their anti-oppresion message (and packaging it along with such gripping music), and look forward to hearing more from them.
If I were a betting man, I’d put some money on the possibility that the members of Winston Salem, NC’s Brought To The Water are big Deafheaven fans. From the fact that they’re named after a song by the popular San Fran metal band, to the strong resemblance between the cover art for the newly released Oblivion EP and 2013’s Sunbather, to Brought To The Water’s strong experimental streak…it’s a safe guess.
That’s not to say that this band is derivative, though; I’d go so far as to say that “Creator, Destroyer” is stranger than anything I’ve heard from Deafheaven. The song kicks off with an atmospheric three minute intro featuring harmonized vocals, a sample that sounds like some infernal machine revving up and then dying, and legitimately jazzy guitar and keyboard flourishes. Then comes the ass-kicking in the form of molten guitar riffs, punishing drum fills, and vocals that vacillate between Killswitch Engage-esque and My Chemical Romance-ish.
I was baffled when I first listened to “Creator, Destroyer,” since it packs so many styles and influences together into a relatively short runtime. After a few more plays through, I’ve grown to appreciate it for its sheer weirdness and willingness to push the sonic envelope. I’d recommend it to anyone who’s interested in the more bizarre side of heavy music.
Northern California Blues Americana Singer / Songwriter KATIE KNIPP has announced the release of her long anticipated, 5th album, Take it With You. Due out November 7, Take it With You features Neil Campisano on drums, Zack Proteau on bass, and Brett Vaughn Rechtfertig on guitar while Katie sings and plays various instruments including piano, slide dobro guitar, and harmonica.
“After focusing 20 years of my life on my music, it took the births of my two sons and associated sacrifices of motherhood testing my commitment for me to truly appreciate what that means. Some of these lyrics to the songs were typed into my phone at 3am while breastfeeding. With the support of my family, I was able to return as a solo act, and my attitude has completely changed. My love for music had been tested and I couldn’t be more grateful now for ANY time I get to play, especially after the pregnancy carpal tunnel healed. I started writing songs from a more natural state of just pure love and they come easily to me now. I’m no longer trying to prove myself because there’s only one me out there.” – Katie Knipp

“I have dealt with depression and bipolar for a good part of my life,” says Mark Hunter, vocalist for iconic Cleveland, Ohio-based heavy metal band CHIMAIRA. “It’s probably safe to say that most CHIMAIRA fans understand that the band’s music, lyrics, and live performances were my cathartic outlet.”
On October 10, 2018 – World Mental Health Day – Mark Hunter will share his personal story about utilizing his art to battle personal struggles and bipolar disorder in a heartfelt upcoming documentary, Down Again. The film is directed by Nick Cavalier – also recognized for directing Derek Hess’ award-winning Forced Perspective documentary – and will be free and available to stream at this link on October 10: https://downagainfilm.com/
Mark Hunter and director Nick Cavalier met on a panel speaking about Mental Health and Creativity monitored by Dr. Patrick Runnels (featured in the documentary) during the Acting Out! festival in Cleveland – a festival put on in 2017 to raise mental health awareness. After hearing his story at the panel, Nick approached Mark to create a short film around his ability to cope with mental illness in the public spotlight through the art. Down Again juxtaposes CHIMAIRA‘s history with Mark’s life events and lyrics, presenting an intimate timeline through the rise and fall of the band and Mark’s ability to channel it into art. The film also explores the catharsis created by the act of making music and art and how the end result affects the fans.
“I was a bit apprehensive [to do this documentary] at first,” continues Mark Hunter. “Not because I am unwilling to share my story, but more so because there are thousands of people infinitely more interesting than me. And worse off than me. But in the end, I am thankful to have been a part of this short documentary. It captured an extremely critical moment in time. The rekindling of friendships with my former bandmates was one of the most significant healing moments of my entire life.”
Mark adds, “It’s unfortunate to note the past couple of years have been tough on the music community. We lost a lot of talented people to their struggles with depression. I hope the viewers of our film will take away a story of healing and feel the impact of dealing with mental health issues head-on.”
In addition to interviews with Mark Hunter and those in his life about his mental health, upbringing, and the formation/rise of CHIMAIRA, the documentary also includes high-quality video footage of the band’s 15th Christmas show at the Agora in Cleveland (2017), featuring the band’s original line-up – marking their first performance together after nearly seven years of separation.
Mark Hunter explains, “This is not a story about CHIMAIRA, although fans of the band will be excited to see familiar faces and hear some of their favorite songs. The audience will get a glimpse into my personality and how I use art to better deal with the harder moments of life.”
In addition to the direction of photography by Tyler Clark, the film also features a devastating live audio mix by CHIMAIRA guitarist Rob Arnold.
Not only does Down Again explore Mark’s art via CHIMAIRA, but also his photography – visiting Mark’s world not only through his figurative lens but his literal one. He adds, “Since the band ended in 2014, photography has been my passion and a great way to fill my time with positivity.”
Down Again was made possible by a generous donation from The Centers for Family and Children, and marketing support via Hope For The Day.

Seattle, WA’s Subways On The Sun Releasing Sophomore Album “Capsize” This Friday! New Song “Tongues” Premiering Now at The Alternative
“…full of a charming grit and winding instrumentals… “Tongues” takes this raw sound and applies a distinct, lighter vocal approach to blend a beautiful musical dichotomy together. Each melody finds a place to land, fluidly aligning to the band’s tight structures.”- The Alternative
“Subways on the Sun offer up some powerful, guitar-driven pop on “Just to Be With You” that recalls the best of early Jimmy Eat World, Mew, and Muse.”- PopMatters
Seattle, WA indie rock outfit Subways on the Sun will release their sophomore album ‘Capsize,’ this Friday, September 21st on Spartan Records.
Frontman Erick Newbill says, “This song was all about exploring new ideas and musical direction for the band. The opening guitar line idea came as I was driving to the studio to work on something completely different. But we decided to give it a shot, and quickly started layering all these parts and the song came together fast. The single lyric line started out as a placeholder to build from, but ultimately felt like the perfect statement to complement the music.”
The video features real life clips of the band as children.
HAMMER KING will release their third full-length, Poseidon Will Carry Us Home, on October 5 via Cruz Del Sur Music. Recorded at Studio Greywolf with POWERWOLFbassist Charles Greywolf at the helm, Poseidon Will Carry Us Home is an unabashed bow to classic, anthemic, hook-laden metal, proving HAMMER KINGwas more than up to the task of meeting the often-high expectations that come with a band’s third album.
The album will be available on CD, digital, and black (300 copies) and blue (200 copies) vinyl LP formats.
“If you haven’t found your own identity by the time your third album comes out, you might probably never find it,” says vocalist/guitarist Titan Fox V. “I know that we have felt that our third album feels like ‘we are’ now, compared to ‘we want to be’ in the past. Not taking away anything from our previous albums at all, but when you start going on a mission, you begin with searching and trying. After a while you know the task, you know the way and you know about your strengths. Maybe that’s what the magical third album is about.”
Variety abounds on Poseidon Will Carry Us Home, with HAMMER KING engaging in strident, call-to-arms jaunts like the opening title track and “Battle Of Wars”. Twin guitar harmonies and fierce gallops highlight “7 Days And 7 Kings” and “Where The Hammer Hangs”, while the true metal call is heeded on the mid-tempo “Warriors Of Angelhill” and “Glorious Nights Of Glory”.
“‘Poseidon’ sounds more organic, more open, warmer,” notes Fox V. “I like the sound of the drums especially, they have a sort of an ’80s vibe to them. Of course, the songwriting has also taken a step forward, if you like. We still have the typical HAMMER KING songs, such as ‘The King Is A Deadly Machine’ or ‘Battle Of Wars’, but there are some songs we have not made before like the ‘Nautical Trilogy’, which includes the title track, ‘At The Mercy Of The Waves’ and ‘We Sail Cape Horn’.”
HAMMER KING‘s progression is best exemplified on album standout “We Sail Cape Horn”. An adventurous, sea-faring number that is equal nods to classic IRON MAIDEN and progressive rock, “We Sail Cape Horn” ended up being the most difficult number on “Poseidon” to pull together. According to Fox V., the end result was more than worth the work that went into creating the song.
“Writing ‘We Sail Cape Horn’ was a bit of a lengthy process. Many parts came in and out of the song over some months. I basically made a demo of it alone and then showed it to the band. They questioned everything after the middle part, so I changed that all over again. In the end, we had a really big song with a real progression in it: Beginning with the protagonist feeling the desire, the urge to go to sea on a huge sailing ship – then actually sailing on the ship, experiencing the loneliness aboard with only strangers around and finally sailing Cape Horn with its horrifying waves and storms. They sail in the name of the King, so what gets them through the horrors of Cape Horn is singing and praising ‘Thine is the Reich and the kingdom eternally, God bless the King’. It is a proud song closing a proud album.”
An album stocked with future anthems at every corner, Poseidon Will Carry Us Home is representative of a band now hitting its creative stride – and fully realizing it. “The studio work with Charles Greywolf is a time of sheer joy and fun, but also a highly relaxed time where everyone constantly gains power and self-confidence,” finishes Fox V. “I have never sung more relaxed, we have never shot more from the hip when it came to playing. But certainly, it is a very fulfilling progression starting with no songs at all and ending up with a mixed and mastered album sporting massive artwork!”
“Great power metal, loaded with immutable riffs and directed by memorable choruses.”– Kaosguards.com (F), 15/20
“An enjoyable album for all fans of power and epic heavy metal!”
In just two short days, San Jose-based death/doom unit MORTUOUS — featuring within its ranks past and present members of Exhumed, Repulsion, Necrot, and Atrament, among others — will unleash the decaying fruits of its Through Wilderness debut upon the masses.
Revolver Magazine is streaming the record before you can buy it noting, “The quartet… rolls through eight tracks of pure double-bass death assault like a flame-throwing tank, incinerating everything with a pulse and leaving the remains to be crushed into powder by tank treads weighed down by steel. Forget the morgue truck, the only thing needed to clean up the bodies after Through Wilderness is a dustbuster. This is pure pulverizing death.”
Adds drummer Chad Gailey, “We travel to the depths of hell and Through Wilderness to drop this album from our rotten souls. You’ve never heard anything as fetid and rancid as these riffs which came from a past life. Death metal? We’re already dead!”
Witness the decaying sounds of Through Wilderness, courtesy of Revolver, atTHIS LOCATION.
MORTUOUS‘ Through Wilderness was captured at Earhammer Studios with Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Vastum, Necrot, etc.) and pays its respects to the likes of My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Rottrevore, and Disembowelment. The album includes guest appearances by Chris Reifert and Danny Coralles of Autopsy, Derrel Houdashelt, formerly of Exhumed, and Teresa Wallace of Dreaming Dead, and comes swathed in the cover art of Marald Van Haasteren (Bolt Thrower, Baroness, Necrot).
ThroughWilderness will see release in North America on June 22nd on CD, limited LP, cassette, and digitally via Tankcrimes and newly-launched Carbonized Records spearheaded by Gailey. Dawnbreed Records will handle the CD and LP release in Europe while Extremely Rotten will handle the European cassette edition.

MORTUOUS will taking on a short West Coast tour this August. The trek will commence on August 2nd and run through August 11th with additional dates to be announced in due time. See all confirmed dates below.

MORTUOUS was forged in San Jose, California in 2009 from the ashes of Colin Tarvin’s previous project Funerealm. Tarvin began writing music in the vein of Incantation, Autopsy, and Viogression, with lyrics centered heavily on philosophical views on death and anti-technological themes. Later that year he released the Mors Immortalis demo on Skeleton Plague Records which received praise and recognition throughout the underground death metal community. By 2010, MORTUOUS had a full lineup which included former Exhumed members Col Jones and Mike Beams as well as Al Tarvin-Kibler, and Nick Scarboro. In 2013, the band parted ways with Tarvin-Kibler, and Scarboro and recruited bassist Clint Roach. Drummer Chad Gailey of Necrot joined the fold that following year completing the band’s current incarnation.

“…dynamically paced, vocally monstrous, melodically memorable, and both gruesome and fiery in its execution (the soloing alone should heat your blood to the boiling point).” — No Clean Singing on “Bitterness”
“…a superb first album by a band that has only released a few demos at this point. The guitar work is heavy and unrelenting, the leads and solos are blistering, the drumming is tight and hard-hitting, and the vocals are in the classic, guttural death metal growl.” — No Echo

“…rotting death metal done by rotters who understand how important it is to have rotten things in your life.” — Last Rites

TOMB MOLD‘s anxiously awaited Manor Of Infinite Forms arrives like a bizarre insectoid of mutant genotype, constructing monumental towers of obscure shape, jarring yet coherent. The band’s compositions evoke a distorted world alongside our own where all manner of oddity and peculiarity are permitted. The band’s prior LP, Primordial Malignity, was named in Spin’s 25 Best Metal Songs Of 2017, and Manor Of Infinite Forms itself was included in Decibel Magazine’s Most Anticipated Albums Of 2018.
Songs on Manor Of Infinite Forms move in strange ways, recklessly contorting into cohesion until suddenly they’re proceeding with a force and purpose in perfect synchronicity to the universe that contains them. Disharmoniously melding the pulverizing heaviness of Finnish death metal with a never overbearing striking technicality, TOMB MOLD careens through world after world of alien landscape with formidable singularity. Fans of Demilich, Cthellist, Demigod, Timeghoul, Gorguts, Adramlech, Blood Incantation, Convulse, and the like, tune in. A remarkable puzzle of an album,Manor Of Infinite Forms constitutes a creative high point for 2018’s many strong death metal releases.
NEW YORK, NY (May 03, 2018) – High As Hope, the hugely anticipated new album from Florence + the Machine, is set for release June 29 on Republic Records. The first official single, “Hunger,” also premieres today, accompanied by stunning new video directed by A.G. Rojas; watch it here.
LISTEN TO “HUNGER” HERE PRE-ORDER HIGH AS HOPE HERE
Premiering today, “Hunger” pairs Florence’s intimate, rawly honest lyricism with a broader sense of acceptance, community and joy. “Hunger” is effectively about acknowledging those holes in our psyche that we try to fill with love and hate, obsessions or addictions but you can ultimately only ever satisfy yourself.
“This song is about the ways we look for love in things that are perhaps not love, and how attempts to feel less alone can sometimes isolate us more,” says Florence. “I guess I made myself more vulnerable in this song to encourage connection, because perhaps a lot more of us feel this way than we are able to admit. Sometimes when you can’t say it, you can sing it.”
Florence wrote, co-produced (her first time co-producing a Florence + the Machine album) and recorded the majority ofHigh As Hope in solitude, cycling to her studio in Peckham every day.
She finished the songs in Los Angeles with her friend and co-producer Emile Haynie, bringing in Kamasi Washington,Sampha, TobiasJessoJr, KelseyLu and Jamie xx as further collaborators. Florence mixed the record in New York, where the daily view of the skyline—often in stark contrast to the chaos of the wider world—gave the album its title.
Florence writes of growing up in South London, of family, relationships and art itself. “There’s a lot of love in this record, loneliness too, but a lot of love,” says Florence.
She continues, “It’s always a work in progress, and I definitely don’t have everything figured out. But this feels like quite a pure expression of who I am now, as an artist, and an honest one. I’m just more comfortable with who I am.”

RIAA-certified, Billboard chart-topping, five-time Grammy-nominated Richmond, VA band LAMB OF GOD may be one of the biggest bands in modern metal, but they will never forget where they came from. Mark Morton (guitar), John Campbell (bass), and Chris Adler (drums) formed the first incarnation of the band, BURN THE PRIEST, in the winter of 1994 after meeting four years earlier as students at Virginia Commonwealth University. Less than a year later, in the summer of 1995, they met vocalist Randy Blythe before adding Chris Adler’s brother, Willie Adler (guitar), prior to transitioning to LAMB OF GOD – and the rest is global metal history.
Guitarist Mark Morton says, “To truly understand the essence of the band BURN THE PRIEST, one must first consider the landscape in which it began: the mid-90s. Grunge and alternative music ruled the airwaves. Social media and the internet had yet to assume their role as our collective sources for entertainment and cultural exchange. It was a time when DIY ‘zines turned us onto new bands and regional scenes, and ‘copy and paste’ still implied a print shop and a glue stick.”
BURN THE PRIEST’s self-titled debut album, released via Philadelphia-based Legion Records, documented what was, in essence, a primal punk band performing metal. Ultimately, as they grew in local popularity, the five-piece chose to stray away from their name to avoid being associated with satanic metal, choosing the name LAMB OF GOD.
Morton continues, “As our sound and songs developed, so did our goals… we began playing basement parties and warehouse shows and in doing so, we realized that the energy we were creating was transferable. The shows we played in those squats and warehouses [in Philadelphia] and the people we met there are forever embedded in our collective consciousness and the DNA of our band.”
As they enter their 20th year since releasing their first self-titled album as BURN THE PRIEST, the band will release a full-length covers album that reflects on the greatness of classic punk, hardcore, crossover and noise – rock subgenres that contributed to what LAMB OF GOD – and indeed, the world – now view as modern heavy metal.
As BURN THE PRIEST, the band presents Legion: XX – featuring tracks originally performed by Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, Quicksand, Ministry, Bad Brains, Melvins,S.O.D., The Accused, Big Black and Richmond punk band Sliang Laos. The tracks are performed with the unmistakable precision that has kept the band vital for two decades, but ultimately harks back to the raw, punk-driven sound first explored by four unsuspecting college students and a line cook-turned-vocalist in their formative years. Produced with Josh Wilbur at the helm, Legion: XX exhibits BURN THE PRIEST in their true element.
“Our inauspicious beginnings somehow grew into something none of us had ever even imagined possible, let alone aspired to, however, this is the story of BURN THE PRIEST,”adds Morton. “The songs we chose to cover on this album reflect that story. They are touchstones from that point in time. The inspiration we gleaned from these bands and these songs carries through our work and our creative pursuits, even to this day. Many thanks to these bands for lighting our fire and endless gratitude to our fans around the world for keeping it lit.”
Legion: XX will be officially released on May 18, 2018 via Epic Records and will be available for purchase via all physical and digital retailers. Pre-orders and merch bundles are available now via http://Burn-The-Priest.com and fans can stream the first single “Inherit The Earth” here: http://BTP.lnk.to/LegionXX. On street date, a 7” vinyl version of “Inherit the Earth” featuring a B-side of “In the Meantime” (originally performed by Helmet), will also be available.
Today, fans can watch the brand new BURN THE PRIEST music video for “Inherit The Earth”, originally performed by The Accused, and cut from Legion: XX (video directed by Travis Shinn). Watch here: http://Burn-The-Priest.com
“I’ve been an Accused fan since I was 14 when they were on the “Thrasher Skate Rock Volume 3” compilation with C.O.C. and all these amazing crossover bands,” says frontman Randy Blythe. “Their singer Blaine Cook was a huge influence on me, vocally.”
Drummer Chris Adler recalls,“‘Inherit The Earth’ hit me in the face soon after I managed to get my grubby mitts on the album sometime around ‘88. I got the Accused record at a “Yellow Banana” record store on Route 1 south of DC while in route back from my “counselor” to my home in Woodbridge, Virginia. I got home and grabbed my board and I rocked it on my Discman. At about 2:12 into the tune the clouds parted above me and on a loudspeaker, God bellowed down to me, ‘RECEIVE YOUR PURPOSE.’ That was the moment I knew that if I tried hard enough, I could convey myself and how I felt – with music. It will never be “ours,” and we know that about all the tunes we’ve covered, but hopefully one of them hit you in the face as I had been, and God will part the clouds for you, too.”
Legion: XX track listing:
Inherit The Earth (originally performed byThe Accused)
Honey Bucket (originally performed byMelvins)
Kerosene (originally performed byBig Black)
Kill Yourself (originally performed byS.O.D.)
I Against I (originally performed byBad Brains)
Axis Rot (originally performed bySliang Laos)
Jesus Built My Hotrod (originally performed byMinistry)
One Voice (originally performed byAgnostic Front)
Dine Alone (originally performed byQuicksand)
We Gotta Know (originally performed byCro-Mags)
Blythe adds,“I have a radio show on Gimme Radio, and [the station] is all metal shows except for mine. I do the punk rock show because I want to show the direct correlation between my band, and the punk scene going back to The MC5 and The Stooges. There is a direct link — look at old pictures of Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, and they’re wearingMisfits, D.R.I., and C.O.C. t-shirts. They fused the technicality of metal with the intensity of punk rock. Before them, metal was like in slow motion. Speed metal bands were listening to Discharge. I beat that drum all the time when I talk to kids.”
Legion: XX is a sonic tribute to metal’s dark, dirty secret – the punk inspiration of all future heavy music to come.

PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS will be touring in support of their Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue full-length, released early this year via Anselmo’s own Housecore Records. Called, “fifty minutes of gnarly, vicious extreme metal…,” by Revolver Magazine, “an ever-shifting fusillade of extreme groove prog…,” by Decibel Magazine, “a schizophrenic musical expression that’s as insane as it is enjoyable,” by Blabbermouth and, “unquestionably one of the angriest and heaviest albums of ANSELMO‘s career,” by Exclaim!, the critically-lauded offering is extreme, abrasive, aggressive, and anthemic. In other words, it’s purely ANSELMO.
Following a successful maiden touring cycle for THE ILLEGALS, the frontman hunkered down at his home studio in Louisiana to record what would become Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue in 2014 and 2015. The lineup shifted as Stephen Taylor (Superjoint) transitioned from bass to guitar, Mike DeLeon (Flesh Horder, Being Killed, ex-MOD et al) joined as a guitarist, and Walter Howard (Grieved, Oppressive Force) took over bass duties. Meanwhile, Jose Manuel “Blue” Gonzalez (Superjoint, Warbeast) held down the drums. Through rigorous rehearsals and writing sessions, a framework for the new music took shape. “Every song is full of relentless anxiety, tension, and malice,” writes Metal Wani, “Seeking solace is not in the cards as the death-tinged hardcore brutality within this album is terrifying. However, there is a bit of a cathartic release that only the tortured vocals of PHIL ANSELMO can provide.”

Unhinged Australian grind unit KING PARROT released their Ugly Produce full-length upon the masses last fall via Housecore Records in North America. Captured at the infamous Goatsound Studios in Melbourne, Australia and produced by Blood Duster’s Jason Fuller, Decibel Magazine fittingly crowned the offering, “…deranged and exceptionally catchy…,” while Rolling Stone Australia hailed a, “visceral ball of fury wrapped in sarcasm and grime that’s both terrifying and hilarious at the same time.” Wrote Metal Injection of the band’s captivating live performance, “You haven’t lived a full and robust life until you’ve paid witness to the unhinged energy its members convey, the between song banter which oozes cutting, Down Under humor, and bassist Wayne ‘Slatts Slattz’ Slattery’s shit-eating grin and his making come hither eyes at his instrument like he’s trying to seduce it into some back alley rumpy-pumpy instead of playing intense bursts of thrashing grind.”
Ugly Produce fuses the raw fury of KING PARROT‘s critically-lauded debut album Bite Your Head Off and mashes it with the twisted sophistication of their ARIA-nominated follow-up Dead Set. A repugnant harvest of gnarled and nasty grind, death metal, thrash, and punk rock, the band’s unique, over-the-top sound is ever prevalent and honed further on Ugly Produce while remaining true to the fundamental ideals the band started with: angst, aggression, absurdity, and antics.
KING PARROT‘s journey with THE ILLEGALS follows their month-long Australian headlining tour set to commence this weekend. For a full list of dates visit THIS LOCATION.

Final details of the PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS/KING PARROT
The masked splatterthrashers of Creepsylvania, GHOUL, have teamed up with Brooklyn-based MC/Uncle Howie Records owner ILL BILL (Non Phixion, Heavy Metal Kings) with GORETEX (Non Phixion), for a sick two-song split. Set for release on May 11th via Tankcrimes, the special seven-inch comes in four color variants.
Comments GHOUL of the upcoming release, “GHOUL is disgusted to announce our split with the dynamic duo of ILL BILL and GORETEX! Your ears will hear but your mind will not survive the molten metal and hardcore hip hop served raw on wax by Tankcrimes and Uncle Howie Records! Go forth and ill!”
Adds ILL BILL, “GHOUL is one of the few great bands that are next level enough to have birthed this idea in the first place. They saw the potential fun in putting out a record like this and then actually took it from just another sick idea to making it a reality. I’d say the mutual admiration and vibes is why the record came about and why this split speaks the same language even though both genres are very different.”
We All Want Our Time In Hell, a vinyl-only tribute to underrated ‘80s goth punk icons Samhain, is set for release this May via Corpse Flower Records. The limited-edition, forty-minute collection features brand new recordings from Joel Grind, Midnight, Nil Eye, Ringworm, Ghoul, Acid Witch, Multicult, Like Rats, Shed The Skin, Immortal Bird, Child Bite, Brain Tentacles, and Ritual Howls, all united under a cult like appreciation for Samhain.
In celebration of its approaching release, Decibel is currently streaming Midnight’s rendition of “Mother Of Mercy” alongside an interview with curator/Child Bite frontman Shawn Knight who sites the impetus in compiling the compilation a reaction to Samhain being, “the mysterious underdog,” adding, “that mystique stuck with me. At some point a dozen or so years ago I came to the realization that they could be the perfect band for a tribute record; enough of a cult following to be worth doing yet not so popular that people are sick of the songs.”

We All Want Our Time In Hell was mastered by James Plotkin (OLD, Scorn, Khanate, Khlyst et al), and will be limited to three-hundred copies in three color variants (black, white, and orange) via Corpse Flower Records on May 4th. For preorders, go to THIS LOCATION.

“It’s interesting to hear a different take on something you burned into your brain as a kid. Even with its modern edge, here on this comp, there is still the weird grit that Samhain embraced…” – Justin Pearson; Dead Cross, Retox, The Locust
“Never has a more proper collection of Samhain covers been assembled, so wrought with the visceral hate and unbridled passion that made the originals worthy of undying worship…” – Glenn Hetrick; Alchemy Studios, Face Off
“Samhain is quite possibly the only band of Danzig’s trilogy that remains ‘ours;’ the feeling of ownership and pride in the esoteric being essential to we pretentious punks. It’s still scary, still experimental, still enjoyable, still mysterious.” – Ryan Patterson; Fotocrime, Coliseum
“Though I love all of Danzig’s work, Samhain is my go to. The imagery, the darkness of the lyrics and that unmistakable voice create a macabre landscape filled with night-times drives, killers at the edge of town and werewolves lurking in the shadows on moonlit nights.” – Mike Hill; Tombs

“…a hard-hitting, late ’70s heavy metal concoction of Thin Lizzy-style double lead guitar harmonic assaults alongside the elemental proto-thrash of Celtic Frost, played in the supercharged vein of High On Fire and rounded off with some satisfying ’70s Sabbathy swing…” — Team Rock
Livin’ Oblivion is the latest full-length from vintage heavy metal titans BLACK WIZARD. Out now in Europe, the nine-track offering will see US release on March 16th via Listenable Records.
Livin’ Oblivion centers itself on the obliteration or slow decay of one’s self, morals, and life as we know it. “We are living in an age where the powers of the world are taking steps backwards and moving away from a positive future,” elaborates the band. “There’s a large number of disenfranchised youth and young adults who would rather live their lives in oblivion – drinking, drugs, partying etc. – than chasing any kind of future or dreams, simply because the rest of the world seems to be falling apart around them.”

In an advance review of the record, Team Rock hails a, “hard-hitting, late ’70s heavy metal concoction of Thin Lizzy-style double lead guitar harmonic assaults alongside the elemental proto-thrash of Celtic Frost, played in the supercharged vein of High On Fire and rounded off with some satisfying ’70s Sabbathy swing,” furthering, “Sections of speedy Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning-era Metallica melodics unite with plenty of swelling feelgood groove, making for a righteous mixed bag that ditches the tried and tested stoner doom formula. From the proto-Mastodon sound of ‘Two Of These Nights’ to ‘Eternal Illusion”s ruffled psychedelia, BLACK WIZARD clearly operate as a labor of love and offer an urgency and vitality that is often lost when embracing classic rock sounds.” Hellbound observes, “The title track is a solid mid-tempo stomp that successfully grafts a couple mid-tempo thrash riffs onto some classic doom (think Trouble, Candlemass et al.). In stark contrast, ‘Portraits’ thrashes and burns like vintage Razor or maybe even pimple-faced Metallica. You get the distinct feeling that these guys worship the ’80s more than the ‘stoner doom’ stylings of recent years — and the result is quite refreshing.” Adds Vancity Rockers, “BLACK WIZARD‘s fourth album,is a doozy. Already one of the Lower Mainland’s best metal bands, the boys have outdone themselves with this release… BLACK WIZARD pays tribute to some of the greats, right the way from Black Sabbath through the Scorpions and Metallica up to the present day. That mixture of influences prevents the album from growing stale at any point. Whatever genre the BLACK WIZARD boys channel on a particular track, they manage to make it truly their own.”
In conjunction with the release of Livin’ Oblivion, BLACK WIZARD will return to Europe this week on a twenty-two date tour alongside Anciients. The journey begins March 1st in Antwerp, Belgium and ends March 30th in Utrecht, Netherlands with additional live adventures in the plotting stages. See all confirmed dates below.

Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, BLACK WIZARD was forged in 2009 between high school friends. Founding members vocalist/guitarist Adam Grant and drummer Eugene Parkomenko worked underwhelming construction jobs at the time, passing the days to the sounds of Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Witch, and Electric Wizard. Today, Parkomenko and Grant are accompanied by guitarist Danny Stokes and basisst Evan Joel. Having followed a true DIY aesthetic, the band has released three full-length LPs along with a 7″ single independently and sold over five thousand copies worldwide. In classic WIZ fashion, Livin’ Oblivion has evolved from their previous efforts boasting a bigger, heavier, sharper, and louder approach than ever before. Faster thrash elements have been added, while staying true to that sultry, Thin Lizzy-esque twin lead vibe throughout.
Muse have released their brand new single ‘Thought Contagion’ which is available on all digital platforms now.
The accompanying video is available HERE. Directed by Lance Drake (who also helmed the band’s Dig Down video) “Thought Contagion” is an ’80s infectious neon love story.
Muse “Thought Contagion”
Matt Bellamy said of the track:
“The meaning of the song ‘Thought Contagion’ is about how other people’s thoughts, ideas and beliefs can sometimes infect your mind, get into your head and change the way you think yourself”.
Earlier this week the band were presented with the prestigious NME award for ‘Best Festival Headliner’ after their epic set at Reading & Leeds festival in 2017, which saw AC/DC’s Brian Johnson join the band on stage for a blistering rendition of ‘Back In Black’ – watch here.
‘Thought Contagion’ was produced by Rich Costey and Muse, mixed by Adam Hawkins.
Muse is Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholme. Their last album, Drones, was released in June 2015 and debuted at No. 1 in 21 countries around the world including their first No. 1 album in the United States. The album went on to win the Grammy Award, their second, for Best Rock Album in February 2016. Since forming in 1994, Muse have released seven studio albums selling in advance of 20 million albums worldwide.
