Almost everyone you know has seen a concert that has moved them. Those productions can take over 100+ traveling crew members to set up by the time doors open.

Before and during the show they sweat and hustle to get everything ready. After the show they spend more hours erasing evidence that they were ever there at all. Many of these key players work an average of 20 hour days, then move on to the next city to make it happen all over again.

Many of these crew members, “roadies,” have been doing this as a career for decades. Some of these roadies, while experts in this field, have never had any other job experience. Since the world pandemic, well over a hundred thousand of these people are left with no income and no financial assistance.

There are no concerts or live events for the foreseeable future. At the beginning of 2020, job opportunity ceased to exist and 2021 remains uncertain. Many are unable to claim unemployment as their expert level trade skills are not recognized and they do not qualify. This on-going problem is leaving 100s of roadies without a secure livelihood.

The government has fallen short. Contacting congressmen and women, senators, and governors to raise the issue has been met with no resolution. Their replies are a formal brush-off and roadies are left hitting a dead end.

The goal with this gofundme is to offer some relief to some of the dedicated people in the roadie community. Just like you, they have families, mortgages, car payments, and day care. Commonly these workers lean on their savings between tour cycles, but those funds have run thin or run out. Please donate if you can, every little helps.

Hopeless Records Celebrates 20 Years

On December 4th, 2013, Hopeless Records – the home to bands such as All Time Low, Taking Back Sunday, The Wonder Years, The Used, We Are The In Crowd and many more – will celebrate its 20year anniversary as an independent record label.

Label founder and president Louis Posen remarks:
“There is a proverb that says, ‘If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ We recognize these past 20 years have everything to do with the fortune and opportunity to work with amazing fans, co-workers, artists, managers, agents, distributors, retailers, media outlets, individuals and organizations. There aren’t words to describe the level of gratitude and appreciation we feel for all those who have supported Hopeless Records and Sub City these first 20 years.  We hope we have given to you as much as you have given to us.”

Founded in 1993, Hopeless Records has had much to celebrate in its 20 years. In two decades, the label has been transformed from small beginnings as the punk-centric hobby of Posen into one of the largest independent record labels in the world according to market share, while releasing music spread across a valley of genres.

Hopeless first gained recognition in the 1990’s with releases from 88 Fingers LouieDillinger FourAtom and His PackageMustard Plug, The Weakerthans, Samiam, The Queers, Fifteen, the Cinema Beer video compilation seriesthe Hopelessly Devoted compilation series and more.

The second decade of the label’s history kicked off with the first two releases from multi-platinum artist Avenged Sevenfold and genre-defining legends Thrice. In 2005 Hopeless Records scored its first gold record with Avenged Sevenfold‘s “Waking The Fallen” and its first gold single in 2011 with All Time Low‘s popular song “Dear Maria, Count Me In”.

Recently, Hopeless has developed the careers of young bands like The Wonder YearsWe Are The In CrowdAir DubaiNeck Deep and many others. The label has released albums from established acts like YellowcardThe UsedSilversteinEnter Shikari and All Time Low. Meanwhile, Hopeless continues to attract iconic established artists like Taking Back Sunday and Bayside.

The label’s 501(c)(3) charity arm Sub City was established in 1999. It has raised over 2 million dollars for over 50 non-profit organizations by connecting bands and fans to causes they are passionate about. Sub City has been recognized for its efforts by the 110th U.S. Congress, the California Senate, the Los Angeles City Council, the National Association of Retail Merchandisers (NARM), Billboard magazineAlternative Press Magazine, the Los Angeles Times and many other publications.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Hopeless Records will be holding a private event at legendary venue, The Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA on December 14th, 2013.

The event will also help raise awareness for Sub City’s first benefiting charity, the Foundation Fighting Blindness – a charity founded in 1971that is dedicated to funding innovative research to find preventions, treatments, and cures for inherited retinal degenerative diseases that lead to blindness and affect more than 10 million people in the United States.

Limited edition, commemorative 20th anniversary merchandise (including t-shirts and snapbacks) will be available soon via the Hopeless Records web store and at the event. Proceeds from these purchases will be donatedto the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

2013 Sub City Take Action Tour Featuring THE USED Rose Over $95K For Charity

Celebrating its eleventh year of raising funds and awareness to non-profit organizations, Sub City (Hopeless Records’ 501c3 non-profit organization, which has raised more than two million dollars for charity), wrapped it’s 2013 edition of the Sub City Take Action Tour Featuring The Usedlast Friday, March 1st at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA.  This year was one of the biggest years in Take Action Tour history with over $95K raised for charity, with this year’s charity of choice being It Gets Better Project, a national organization created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach – if they can just get through their teen years. In addition, the official drum set used on the tour was auctioned off and 100% of the proceeds benefited It Gets Better Project and The Living The Dream Foundation equally. Sub City founderLouis Posen, stated, “A heartfelt thank you to all the bands, fans, management, labels and partners for making this one of the biggest Take Action tours in its 11 year history. The 2013 tour may be over but we and the music community will not stop taking action until teasing, bulling and victimizing young people for being themselves comes to and end.”

The tour featured alt-rock headliner, The Used, with support from We Came As Romans, Crown The Empire, and Mindflow. Kicking off at Las Vegas’House of Blues on January 11th, the annual nationwide charity tour circled the US through February, showcasing some of the best bands in music today while raising funds and awareness for It Gets Better and the concept that we can all help play a part in making a positive impact. Ten percent of the cost of each ticket purchased was donated to It Gets Better and Sub City. Lead singer of The Used, Bert McCracken, tells us, “The Take Action Tour has been an incredible experience that will be impossible to forget. Thirty-three shows from the east coast to the west coast of the US; and the positive energy has been contagious. We want to thank Hopeless Records and the It Gets Better Project for inspiring not only us, but thousands of others as well. We are blown away by the insane amount of love and support that still exists for The Used after nearly twelve years on the road. After all these years, The Used still have the best fans in the world, by far! Thanks again, see you soon Used fans!”

The chosen charity for the tour, It Gets Better Project, is a place where young people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or struggling to find themselves can see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future.  It’s a place where our straight allies can visit and support their friends and family members.  It’s a place where people can share their stories, take the It Gets Better Project pledge and watch videos of love and support.

“Working with The Used and everyone involved on the Take Action tour was a pleasure. It is great to collaborate with such a passionate group who support young people and are working to make a difference. We look forward to working together in the future.” says Stephanie Laffin of If Gets Better.

Bert and Jeph from The Used have created an It Gets Better video to help support the cause. Fans can view the video HERE: http://youtu.be/N-0MtFYFs-g.

In addition, Hopeless Records, in partner with their non- profit organization Sub City, presented the Take Action Compilation Volume 11, a compilation album for charity. About It Gets Better:

In September 2010, syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage created a YouTube video with his partner Terry Miller to inspire hope for young people facing harassment. In response to a number of students taking their own lives after being bullied in school, they wanted to create a personal way for supporters everywhere to tell LGBT youth that, yes, it does indeed get better.

The It Gets Better Project™ has become a worldwide movement, inspiring more than 50,000 user-created videos viewed more than 50 million times. To date, the project has received submissions from celebrities, organizations, activists, politicians and media personalities, including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Colin Farrell, Matthew Morrison of “Glee”, Joe Jonas, Joel Madden, Ke$ha, Sarah Silverman, Tim Gunn, Ellen DeGeneres, Suze Orman, the staffs of The Gap, Google, Facebook, Pixar, the Broadway community, and many more. For us, every video changes a life. It doesn’t matter who makes it.

PMM Editor Kait with Jeph and Quinn of The Used

Pittsburgh Music Magazine had a chance to hop onto The Used’s tour bus pre-show and talk to Jeph and Quinn about their latest release, Vulnerable (II), which is a reissue with 12 original tracks, 4 brand new songs, 3 acoustic versions and 3 remixes. We also talked to them about The Take Action Tour and what they have going on in the future. Check it out here:

The Used put on a brilliant pop power punk performance on Friday, Jan 25, 2013 at Stage AE in Pittsburgh. Though they have been a bit quiet media wise for sometime, their loyal fans have not forgotten them and showed up in droves waiting at the door with baited breath. With a stellar lineup of Mindflow, Crown the Empire, and We Came as Romans to fill out the bill. The fans had a night they will not soon forget, most of the bands took time to mingle and take pictures before and after their sets and really set the tone for the evening.
