VIOLENT IDOLS blazes into 2021 for REVENGE with the official music video for their blistering sequel to 2020’s Idolatry, that featured AEW Jon Moxley’s theme song, “UNSCRIPTED VIOLENCE,” as well as collaborations with hard rock heavy weights such as Andy James (Five Finger Death Punch), Aaron Nordstrom (Gemini Syndrome), and K.A.Z (VAMPS). The single was produced and mixed by KANE CHURKO at The Hideout Recording Studio in Henderson NV with the video directed by Steffen Orozco, “REVENGE” showcases the raw intensity that the band has become known for while blending industrial and electronic elements into a style that has become uniquely their own. “REVENGE” sounds exactly like you want it to, exploring the dark side of humanity within a track that is both powerful and heavy while confidently flirting with commerciality via the sonic wizardry that Churko is well-known for.

”This band has always been about looking the monster inside right in the eye and staring it down. REVENGE is no exception. With social media we all always seem so caught up in only showing our best selves. But that’s not all we are. You really only know somebody after you’ve seen the worst side of them. Yourself included. When you confront the depths of your own darkness, you begin to lift that veil.”

“It’s easy to say you’d turn the other cheek while sitting in an ivory tower. But when the blood of someone you love ends up on the hands of your enemy, what do you do? A lot of people don’t like to ask themselves that question. They don’t want to know what the monster inside of them looks like.”

2021 is poised to be a tremendous year for VIOLENT IDOLS as they ready their second EP and continue their pattern of collaborating with some of rock music’s biggest names. VIOLENT IDOLS have managed to rack up millions of streams in their first year as an unsigned independent band. Proving that music doesn’t have to be “safe” to sell, there seems to be no shortage of excitement over the bands artistic output thus far. The lyrics of “REVENGE” ask “Where does it stop? Where does it end?”. However, it’s clear with this release that REVENGE is just the beginning of huge things for this mysterious and enigmatic Las Vegas band.

BLUE EYED CHRIST Releases JIM MARCUS Directed Music Video for “Massive React”

IMG 1045

LA based Electronic Industrial Rock artist BLUE EYED CHRIST has released a new music video for “Massive React,” off of his new album World on Fire Created by JIM MARCUS (GO FIGHTDIE WARZAU), “Massive React” was originally premiered on taste-making website mxdwn.

“‘Massive React’ mixes a slick synth groove with processed guitars while tackling the effects that corporate greed, technology, and personal responsibility play within the world. It was great having Jim Marcus (Go Fight, Die Warzau) on board to direct the video since we have a musical history reaching back to the 90s.” John D. Norten

World on Fire is BEC’s 5th studio album and first in 6 years, coming after the release of the 2018 Trash Deity album Cross & Divide with Groovie Mann (My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult). The 11 track assault of World on Fire finds the Chicago born artist returning to his WAX TRAX! influences, juxtaposing raw EBM/Industrial elements with modern production and real world themes. The title track from the album, a video for which is forthcoming, features former LORDS OF ACID vocalist MEA FISHER and ex-KMFDM member EN ESCH. Due out 5/22. World on Fire is available to purchase via DISTORTION PRODUCTIONS Now!

“Blue Eyed Christ’s lyrics often lend themselves to various interpretations. Upon reviewing the song, I was struck by the multiple directions his words could be decoded into themes relevant throughout past, present and future. I started to researching old government PSA’s, self-promoting manufacturing films & proto-infomercials throughout history in order to locate slices of “civilized” culture which could be utilized for illustrating the various concepts suggested within the lyrics of this song. People dance around their possessions, celebrating their ability to consume while governments utilize the same raw materials to build machines of surveillance & war.

Now with the advent of cell phone cameras, social media, internet spambots, propaganda farms & the increasing ease of access to such tools (and the resulting misinformation being generated and digested on a minute-by-minute basis), society sails further and faster into this hall of mirrors – gleefully making images of our lives to convince each other that opinions are more valuable than truth, feelings more important than fact, that we’re all doing just fine/not-fine, civilization is ticking along nicely/not-nicely – reveling in shortsighted, personal agendas… while outside, the world burns. “

Blue Eyed Christ is the Electronic Industrial Rock project of established Producer/Engineer John D. Norten. John has worked with many of the biggest artists in music helping them achieve their visions (PrinceFergieLady GagaDr. Dre).

In contrast, Blue Eyed Christ is 100% John’s artistic vision in the studio. That vision is the visceral combination of heavy electronic industrial rock mixed with personal lyrics and just the right balance of hooks and noise. Blue Eyed Christ is the combination of John’s experimental Chicago Trax background mixed with the pop and polished sheen he brings to other Artists. In 1991, while still in his teens, Chicago’s John D. Norten signed his first international recording contract under the band name Blue Eyed Christ to famed Belgian EBM label KK Records. The first Album, Leaders + Followers, was released that same year. Blue Eyed Christ still enjoys a loyal following today and Leaders +Followers is considered an EBM classic.

In 1995 John recorded the second Blue Eyed Christ Album, Crash, while working at Chicago Trax Recording Studios. At the same time he assembled an intense live band that helped further create a buzz throughout the music industry.

2002 saw the release of the third Blue Eyed Christ album, American Whore, with a new Los Angeles Live band taking on the underground club circuit.

With a new studio savvy, 2014 saw the release of A Rush and a Thrill, a whirlwind ride straight into the world of Blue Eyed Christ. Eric Zimmerman (SoundgardenNine Inch NailsMinistry) directed the decadent “Freakshow” concept video short recorded on Halloween of that year.

A chance meeting at an art event in 2015 led to the formation of Trash Deity with Groovie Man (My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult). Metropolis Records caught wind and released the debut Trash Deity Album, Cross & Divide, Sept 2018.

Energized by the current chaos and state of the world, John is releasing the first Blue Eyed Christ Album in 6 years, World on Fire.

World on Fire combines the energy and political anthems on my first album mixed with the personal themes I’m also known for. It’s time to get this message out there again and that message is loud and angry. My songwriting and production has never been better”

Belgian Industrial Act REALITY’S DESPAIR Announces The Release of Melancholic Disposition

March 9, 2020 – Belgian industrial act REALITY’S DESPAIR is proud to announce the release of their new full-length releaseMelancholic Disposition.

For fans of: Suicide CommandoEvil’s Toy & Terminal Choice

While the lyrics deal with societal and human decline, the supernatural, the occult and aliens, musically REALITY’S DESPAIR can be categorised as ebm / dark electro with a strong 90’s feel and with heavily-distorted vocals.

“The album consists of rhythmic tracks that take listeners away in the 90s, when EVIL’S TOY and the early works of the SOLITARY EXPERIMENTS clanked the scene. Elements of Old-school EBM add rhythm, so some tracks may fit Post-Industrial dancefloor. Good smooth album, which can be called a great return to the 90s. Again.” – Reflections of Darkness

After releasing two demo cd’s and an EP between 1996 and 2000, it was long overdue to revive this dark electro/ebm solo project, REALITY’S DESPAIR back in 2017.

The one man project is based in Antwerp (Belgium).  All lyrics and music are produced, mixed and mastered by Demarcation.

The revival of REALITY’S DESPAIR led to a first self-released album in April, 2018, Societal Collapse, followed by Human Transitions in March 2019 and Melancholic Disposition in February, 2020.

Spearfish, SD based electronic alternative rock act Blacklite District has released the official music video for “Hard Pill to Swallow,” the lead single off of their upcoming 4th album, Through the Ages. Originally premiered on Billboard, “Hard Pill to Swallow” was filmed outside the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center in Anaheim, CA by DZFX Media.

“We worked with DZFX Media in Southern California on the video. I literally ran into him at Guitar Center while I was picking up something for our studio sessions for the new album. We started talking right there at the counter and ended up shooting three videos that week, with ‘Hard Pill to Swallow’ being the first.” – Kyle Pfeiffer

Blacklite District has experienced a meteoric rise over the past several months, with their YouTube following edging near 100,000 in less than a year and their wildly popular Minecraft videos–“Cold As Ice” and “The Struggle”–garnering around 70 million views cumulatively. Says Kyle, “I work with multiple major YouTube channels that promote my music to a huge worldwide audience. It’s been amazing as an independent artist of this generation to reach an audience of this size.” As a result of their rapidly expanding youth audience, the duo has seen incredible online sales and Spotify streams and playlistings, as well as significant Mainstream Rock Songs Billboard charting.

Blacklite District follows no rules. With sounds of everything from electronic, EDM and hip hop, to hard rock and alternative, the band truly stands out from the pack of what has becomes today’s generic sounding “Active Rock”. Formed in 2012 by Kyle Pfeiffer and Roman James, ages 12 and 11 respectively, the band grew organically in their local music scene through the years to come. In 2011, BLD was discovered by Grammy Award-winning producer, Stephen Short (Paul McCartney, Queen), which resulted in a 10 day recording session at the world’s largest residential recording studio, Sonic Ranch, just outside of Mexico in Tonillo, TX. The group re-located to Los Angeles and played some of the most famous venues in the world for the remainder of 2011.

In 2013, the group released “With Me Now” as the lead from it’s debut album Worldwide Controversy. “With Me Now” immediately went to #1 on SiriusXM channels Octane and Faction, hit the Top 40 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart (#32), and sold 100,000 copies. BLD went on a very successful US tour with Saving Abel in Jan-Apr 2014, with 26 of those shows SOLD OUT. After a legal battle with their management and record label, Blacklite District went on hiatus in late 2014.

On August 23, “The Struggle” was release to radio and To Whom It May Concern went for pre-order at digital retailers. Revolver Magazine premiered the music video for “The Struggle” on August 25. The band also announced a 41 date tour called “The Struggle Is Real Tour”. Blacklite District released a Nightcore remix of “The Struggle” to YouTube on September 6, which got over 2,000,000 plays and resulted in the single breaking the Top 40 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Indicator chart at #36.

One month later, on October 6, the group released a Nightcore remix of “We Are The Danger” which got over 400,000 plays on YouTube. A couple of weeks later, the band released “Broken Souls” to radio, as well as a Nightcore remix which resulted in 500,000 plays and hitting #30 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Indicator. This was the second song in the month of October to break the Top 40 (along with “The Struggle.”)

“The Ghost of You and Me” was released as a music video and a Nightcore remix on December 28, 2016. The song was yet again a success for Blacklite District resulting in 400,000.

On January 20, 2017, BLD released “Living In A Nightmare” as the first single from upcoming album Instant Gratification. With a coinciding Nightcore release, “Living In A Nightmare” broke the Top 25 on the BDS Indicator chart, marking the bands highest spot in chart history. The song has been streamed over 250,000 times.

On February 24, famed radio DJ Lou Brutus posted the bands video for “Cold As Ice”, which was released the same day. The song scored a whopping 350,000 streams in its first week alone, and as of May 2017, has over 3.5 million combined views on YouTube. “Cold As Ice” serves as the second single from Instant Gratification. In the summer of 2017, “Cold As Ice” was added to Spotify’s “Rock Hard” playlist, and was put into rotation on SiriusXM’s alternative channel Faction. In October, “Cold As Ice” was added to rotation on SiriusXM Octane, and it’s Minecraft music video has over 10 million views on YouTube. There are about 4 videos about a Herobrine invasion with zombies and “nether watchers” and how the main character, a player in a blue suit, survives. There are 4 songs in total in the order of The Struggle, Cold as Ice, We are the Danger (possibly not from Blacklite District), and Just so you Know.

Blacklite District released their third album Instant Gratification on September 22, going Top 10 on Amazon’s Top Electronic Albums chart.

Introducing yOya

“…songs like “I’ll Be the Fire” showcase the duo’s feel-good falsetto and folk-pop buildups.”

-Seraphina –

yOya’s Alex Pfender (vocals, guitar, drum machine) and Noah Dietterich (vocals, keyboards) first met when they were 10 years old, playing the parts of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer in a school musical. Although that was their first and last musical theater collaboration, it was also the start of a partnership that’s journeyed through influences of folk, electronic, and back again.

They started writing music together in high school, when they formed a rock band that eventually evolved into yOya in 2009.  Their songs, which could be best described as “folk-tronic,” “electronic folk,” or “synth folk,” are at their core folky, acoustic tunes with real melodies and real lyrics; combined with heavy-hitting electronic beats and the broad sound-space of samples, synths, and whatever bleep-bloops make them feel good. “Our fans definitely hear the influence of Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell, as well as contemporary folk artists like The Tallest Man On Earth or The Dodos. We love Radiohead and Animal Collective as well,” says Pfender.

They first honed their songwriting skills against a backdrop of classic folk music and rainy winter days in Corvallis, Oregon. Pfender says, “It’s heavily forested on every side, which I think helped draw us toward folk music. That and the fact that both of our parents are big-time folkies with the record collections to prove it.”

When the duo eventually moved to California to study music, that acoustic background collided head-on with the electronic sounds of the Los Angeles scene. When the dust had settled yOya emerged with their unique mix of folk-hearted songs, intricate vocal harmonies, gritty synthesizers, and thundering electronic beats – their own blend of folk and electronic. “We like our acoustic guitars to sound old and rootsy, and our synths and beats to sound huge and hard-hitting,” says Dietterich.

Since self-releasing their debut album, Nothing To Die, in the spring of 2010, yOya has toured extensively through the western states and the east coast, sharing stages with Avi Buffalo, Dawes, The Seedy Seeds, Crystal Antlers, and many others.  And like friends sharing an extended road trip, they also find ways to amuse themselves on the road. “We’re very familiar with the interstates to and from LA, so we make fun of the same road signs every time.  Especially the one south of Redding, CA that says ‘Proberta Gerber,’ which we imagine is a lady who ‘serves urban burgers’ or ‘curbs squirrel murder,’ and the one on I-15 north of San Bernadino that says ‘Barstow Daggett.’ That ought to be a swear word,” says Pfender.

A bond formed in their youth, now burgeoned into a song-writing duo, Pfender and Dietterich are standing proof that true collaboration and friendship breed success. yOya have been featured in LA Weekly’s “LA Unheard” column naming them one of the “best unsigned bands in LA” which led to their SXSW debut at the Hello Music and Taylor Guitars “Artist To Watch” showcase in the spring of 2011. Their songs have also been featured in Delta’s in-flight radio as well as on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. In July 2013 they will release their follow up EP, Go North, on New Professor Music.

The powerhouse duo of Andrea Sicco and “Jungle” Jim Chandler give the full blown sound out of a two person front that is reminiscent of the Black Keys, but with a unique sound core that defies any one genre of rock n’ roll. On tour for their late 2012 album Sweet Dreams, listen for a wild, but not chaotic, mix of surf, grunge, metal, death metal, electronica, rockabilly, and 50s-60s doo-wop aspects… all tied up in neatly choreographed feats of musical composition.

Twin Guns satisfy like a Wild West Neo-Black Sabbath that rides in from the sunset instead of disappearing into it.

Hans-Peter Lindstrøm’s prolific output in 2012 rolls on with a new version of Smalhans’ “Vōs-sākō-rv,” premiered by Gawker earlier today. Adding a vocal line on top of the laser-like synths and crunchy bass, Lindstrøm condenses the best parts of the original into an infectious, floor-ready anthem. If you weren’t humming this tune yet, you are now!

Slick Shoota, Lemonade and Miaoux Miaoux have already given Smalhans’ “Rá-ákõ-st” and “Ęg-gęd-ōsis” the remix treatment and last week, Lindstrøm remixed Lana Del Ray’s “Blue Velvet.” You can check them out below.

Matmos Share “Very Large Green Triangles” Video

Electronic duo Matmos released The Ganzfeld EP yesterday on Thrill Jockey Records, the first of two releases based on four years of parapsychological experiments that have yielded the most conceptually elaborate yet weirdly poppy music of their career. Intrigued with the ESP concept of the new record, design took the idea of telepathy even further and created the video for The Ganzfeld EP’s “Very Large Green Triangles” which premiered yesterday on Cool Hunting. They worked on the video without consulting the band, counting on psychic cues to guide them. Psychic cues, 70s progressive rock album covers, and 80’s alternate reality science fiction inspired their thinking as they sought to create a beautiful, trippy, fun, energetic and slightly spooky rethinking of the song. The video interprets the psychic session as a full arc from every day details to larger and larger scales of Very Large Green Triangulation.

“a beautifully composed EP, filled with haunting harmonies and an engaging arrangement of test-subject commentary”
– Cool Hunting

In order to facilitate the recreation of the exact perceptual circumstances of the original test subjects who participated in the Ganzfeld experiment, Thrill Jockey has teamed up with Incase to release a limited edition of “The Ganzfeld EP” in which each copy of the vinyl or CD will be accompanied by a pair of Incase headphones and a pair of opaque goggles.
