HUNTRESS Ends 2013 Victoriously – Ready to Start 2014 With a Fury

HUNTRESS has locked down another year of victories as a newcomer metal band. Forming only three years ago, the powerful pentad continues to deliver stellar live performances. 2013 was a landmark year for HUNTRESS, having released their sophomore album Starbound Beast, touring non-stop in support of their critically-acclaimed album, while continuing their quest to bring true heavy metal to the masses.  Their video for the song “Zenith” (directed by Phil Mucci) was ranked #3 on “Noisecreep’s Top 10 Videos of 2013“, #4 on“Loudwire’s Top 10 Videos of 2013” and won “Video of the Year on Unsung Melody.   Starbound Beast was also voted #5 in LA Weekly’s Best L.A. Metal Albums of  2013 List.

Vocalist Jill Janus spoke about HUNTRESS‘s amazing year:

“This has been an incredible year for the band, 2013 began with Huntress writing and recording our 2nd album Starbound Beastwhich was produced by Zeuss. We’ve been touring virtually non-stop — Sweden Rock Festival, Download Festival, The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, Heavy MTL, Danzig’s 25th Anniversary Tour with Doyle, and ending a wild year as the opening act for Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Testament in North America. No rest for the wicked! Our video for ‘Zenith’ (directed by Phil Mucci) was filmed during our hectic tour schedule. It surpassed our expectations and truly captured the vision of our album. It’s part of our legacy, and part of our path to rise above the glorification of mediocrity. Huntress is here for the long haul; our determination, vision and love of music will continue to be our driving force. Hail Heavy Metal!”

Huntress Puts a Spell on Pittsburgh: Video Interview, Pix, and Review

Huntress feels like they were born from an amalgamation of sorcery, NWOBHM, Catskill Mountain upbringing, and some damn fine weed.  Some of that is conjecture and some of that is pure investigative reporting (Ha!).  According to her bio, Jill Janus, lead singer of Huntress, ‘came from humble beginnings as one of seven children.  By the age of fourteen, she received a scholarship to tour Europe with a choir. Her work ethic was fierce growing up, holding down several jobs to fund her vocal training. Between her voice lessons and high school classes, Janus would record thrash songs in her best friend’s basement and was initiated into a coven at the age of fifteen. Witchcraft has guided every aspect of her life since. At the age of seventeen, she won a national vocal scholarship to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City.  As she studied, Janus began working in New York’s burgeoning nightlife scene as a DJ and promoter and she moved to Los Angeles in late 2003 where she finally was able to form Huntress.

The search for Huntress musicians grew to a fever pitch. Janus spent the next few years writing and recording demos, auditioning several guitarists and drummers, but would never compromise on her vision. By  2009  she met Professor, an underground metal band from Highland Park, California. She played the boys her demos, which they described as “Diet Maiden”, but they gave her a chance to wail. After one rehearsal, they decided to join forces and become Huntress. They released a three song EP titled “Off With Her Head” in 2010, followed by a self-funded music video for their single “Eight of Swords”. Huntress (JIll Janus, Blake Meahl, Carl Wierzbicky, Anthony “Pockets” Crocamo and Ian Alden ) inked a deal with Napalm Records in November 2011 and has been touring relentlessly since recording their debut album Spell Eater.’

Watch here as we talk to Jill about touring, sorcery, and the future of Huntress…

Huntress received an extremely warm reception from a notoriously rough crowd in Pittsburgh last night.  Their old metal sound combined with the amazing stage presence and vocal range of Jill was certainly enough to get the crowds juices flowing.  With solid tunes such as “Zenith”, “Destroy Your Life” and “Spell Eater” it’s hard not to be impressed by the imagery and sounds projected full force at one’s ears and eyes.  Of course, the crowd went nuts for the Lemmy co-written, “I Want To Fuck You To Death”, the catchiest and most feminine empowering song to come along in metal for well…ever.  After some Jager shot toasts to Pittsburgh, Huntress closed out with “Eight of Swords” to an audience with metal hands held aloft.  Not an easy feat among all the very hardcore thrash metal heads who may not take kindly to a “girl” singer.  Jill may try to un-sex herself when she sings, but it’s pretty hard to look at her and feel anything about her as unsexy.  Her voice is “Dickensonian” though and with talent and drive like that Huntress won’t be an opening act for long.

HUNTRESS Wraps Up North American Tour With Danzig Prepares For Global Domination with Lamb of God

HUNTRESS has kicked off yet another year of relentless touring, following the release of their critically acclaimed album Starbound Beast.  After an amazing run on this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, HUNTRESS has just wrapped up their tour with the legendary Glenn Danzig for his 25th Anniversary tour with Misfits guitarist Doyle.

Vocalist Jill Janus had this to say about her time on the road with Glenn Danzig:

“Touring with Danzig has been surreal. As an angsty teenage girl, I used to dream that one day I would duet with Glenn Danzig. Being chosen to tour with him was already mind blowing, but I also had the honor of singing “Skulls” with him in St. Paul, MN! I was watching the show from side stage. Doyle had just played a couple Misfits songs with the band. Then I see Glenn turn and ask if I’d like to join him for a duet! Performing with two of my idols was stellar. This has been a killer experience for HUNTRESS, watching Glenn Danzig nightly from the wings, he has mastered his craft and we’ve learned a lot from him on this short run. He’s also hilarious, his sense of humor and attitude have made our time with him so much more incredible! Hail Danzig!”

After a short break this September, HUNTRESS will be back on the road with heavy metal heavyweights Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, and Testament!  The tour kicks off October 22ndin Toronto, ON, and runs through November 26th in Silver Spring, MD.  It has also been confirmed that Lamb of God will be taking HUNTRESS to Europe and the UK in early 2014.  A complete list of dates can be found below.

HUNTRESS is proud to present their video for the song “Zenith”.  Bloody-Disgusting.com calls it “A Sci-Fi Horror Psychedelic Masterpiece!” The spectacular video was directed by Phil Mucci, whose video for HIGH ON FIRE‘s “Fertile Green” was named best video of 2012 by Revolver. Check out the “Zenith” video HERE.

Starbound Beast, is out now on Napalm Records. The album is available for purchase oniTunesAmazon, and in Best Buy stores in the US.

LAMB OF GOD Partners with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE for North American Tour…Pittsburgh Stage AE Nov. 25

Testament and Huntress to Support

 8389_lamb-of-god

Long-time friends LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have joined forces for what will undoubtedly be one of the essential “can’t miss” tours of the fall of 2013.  The tour launches October 22 in Toronto and canvases much of the U.S and Canada.  The two bands are a dominant live pairing, and will combine for 28 North American shows in total.  Support for all shows except Los Angeles will be provided by thrash legends Testament, with Huntress opening all shows.

LAMB OF GOD will end the North American portion of the Resolution record cycle with this tour.  It will include a coast to coast visit to all major Canadian cities which will be LAMB OF GOD’s first visit to Canada on this cycle other than a festival play in June in Montebello and a show in Toronto in January 2012.  In the last year, both Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament have been certified gold in Canada.  LAMB OF GOD will finish the Resolution cycle completely with a visit to Europe and South Africa in January 2014. Details on that tour will be released late August.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE released their sixth album Disarm the Descent this April, which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200; at No. 1 on Hard Rock Chart; and at No. 1 on the Rock Chart. It marked the first album with frontman Jesse Leach at the vocal helm since 2002’s now-classic Alive or Just Breathing.  The album has been warmly embraced and well-received by both fans and the media, as it has just crossed the 100,000-sold mark in only three months of release.  Having just wrapped a highly successful U.S summer headline tour, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE look to continue their Disarm the Descent record cycle with this fall trek.

Both LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have been wanting to hit the road together for quite some time now and are both excited to finally get the chance.  They have also made sure to keep the ticket prices as low as possible so that all of their fans can come out and have a good time with them on this tour.

Starbound Beast was recorded at Hobby Shop Studios in Los Angeles, CA, working with famed producer Zeuss (Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, Agnostic Front).  The artwork for Starbound Beast was created once again by Vance Kelly (Slayer, Ghost B.C., Mastodon).

HUNTRESS was spawned from the preternatural union of Jill Janus with underground metal bands Professor and Dark Black. They thrive on thundering drums, heavy riffs, spectral solos and catchy choruses that come from the band’s musical concoction of occult science and bong rips. HUNTRESS remains true to the roots of melodic heavy metal with a penchant for thrash, death and black metal.

HUNTRESS Hosting “Virtual Yard Sale” For Mayhem Festival Tour Support

photo1creditneilzlozowe

HUNTRESS has generated a massive amount of buzz since the release of their debut album Spell Eater in 2012. The follow up to last year’s kill is Starbound Beast, to be released on July 2nd during the band’s run with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Huntress is about to embark on the biggest tour opportunity of their new career, as well as the most demanding and expensive. HUNTRESS has teamed up with fellow Mayhem brothers Battlecross to share the cost for a bus this summer, since their tour vans can’t handle the extreme heat. And that is only the beginning of the financial strain for a young metal band with minimal tour support.

HUNTRESS has started an indiegogo (Virtual Yard Sale) campaign to ensure their participation in the festival. Check out their indiegogo page HERE, featuring enticing packages and unique collector items. Some of the perks offered are signed CD DigiPaks and Vinyl of their upcoming album Starbound Beast, and packages that feature tickets to Mayhem Festival plus hang outs with the band. Water balloon fights, parking lot BBQs and Astrological readings with Jill Janus are also offered up for sacrifice. Some of the most exclusive perks include the sword prop and red cloak from the “Eight of Swords” video, and Blake’s 1979 Custom GMC Vandura. More items and unique opportunities will be added as well.

In more HUNTRESS related Mayhem news, vocalist Jill Janus will host the first ever Shred-Meister guitar competition.  Festival attendees can go to the Jägermeister tents on site and audition for a chance to shred for 10 seconds on the main stage. Each day, one of the 10 finalists will win a custom Jägermeister guitar from Schecter and the overall winner at the end of the tour will win a custom Jägermeister full stack and head courtesy of Peavey Electronics.

Starbound Beast will be released on June 28th in Europe and on July 2nd in North America via Napalm Records.  The band recorded the album at Hobby Shop Studios in Los Angeles, CA, working with famed producer Zeuss (Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, Agnostic Front).  The artwork for Starbound Beast was created once again by Vance Kelly (Slayer, Ghost B.C., Mastodon).

HUNTRESS has just revealed the first song off the new record titled “I Want to Fuck You to Death”, co-written by Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. To hear the streaming version now, check out the HUNTRESS Facebook Page.  Click the “LIKE US TO DEATH” tab or visit this direct link: http://a.pgtb.me/jsQf9xx

HUNTRESS Reveals Song From Upcoming Album Song Co-Written By Lemmy of Motorhead

lemjill

HUNTRESS is back with the follow up to their buzzworthy debut album Spell Eater, which was released in 2012.  The album entitled Starbound Beast will be released on June 28th in Europe and on July 2nd in North America via Napalm Records.

Today HUNTRESS has unveiled the first song from Starbound Beast.  The track entitled “I Want to Fuck You to Death” was co-written for singer Jill Janus by legendary Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

Frontwoman Jill Janus spoke about the collaboration:

“I met Lemmy through my former band Chelsea Girls. We’d play hard rock and metal covers featuring guest celebrities. Lemmy was already friends with the girls, so he played “Ace of Spades” with us and it blew my mind. We stayed in touch and would meet up at The Rainbow for drinks. So I asked him a few months back over Jack & Cokes if he’d write lyrics for a Huntress song and he said ‘Sure’. A few weeks later, I met him at the studio during Motorhead recording sessions. Lemmy handed me two two pieces of notebook paper with the lyrics for ‘I Want to Fuck You to Death’. I am beyond honored. To me, this is a love song. It is the most romantic song I’ve ever heard.”

Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister also spoke of the collaboration:

“The first time I heard Jill’s voice with Chelsea Girls, it was phenomenal. I wrote these lyrics from her point of view, the Huntress. ‘I Want to Fuck You to Death’ was inspired by her, written for her. I’ve always had a soft spot for her. And a hard spot too…”

The song is available as an exclusive stream on the HUNTRESS Facebook Page.  When visiting the facebook page, clicking the “like” button will enable the audio.

In support of Starbound Beast the band will be touring across North America this summer as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.   The band will be featured on the Jagermeister Stage alongside Machine Head, Battlecross & Others.  The tour kicks off June 29thin San Bernardino, CA and runs through August 4th in Dallas, TX.  A complete list of dates can be found below.  The band took part in the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Press Conference and performed live, check out footage HERE.
