Coheed and Cambria have released a digital deluxe edition of their eighth studio album, entitled The Color Before The Sun: Deconstructed. The collection was made available August 19 via 300 Entertainment. In conjunction with the rerelease, the band are now premiering a video for one of the two bonus demos, “Bridge and Tunnel.” The clip features stunning views of NYC and it’s skyline, an ode to the city that has had an overwhelming influence on the band.
The 30-track presentation features the original album’s 10 songs, both in the studio, and in their early acoustic demo form, as well as two bonus demos that were never recorded in the studio. The demos, called, “Big Beige/4th St,” were named after band frontman, Claudio Sanchez‘s home, “The Big Beige” in upstate NY as well as his old apartment in Brooklyn, “4th Street” – since he wrote and documented them in each residence. These mostly acoustic demo tracks had previously only been made available to core fans who purchased the band’s Limited Edition Deluxe Box set, which featured a 76 page physical book. Also included in “Deconstructed” are 7 live “bootleg” tracks pulled straight from the soundboard from various dates on their recent US headline tour, that expose a very raw look at the band.
Coheed and Cambria’s ten song album, The Color Before The Sun was released in October 2015 via 300 Entertainment, marking a bold departure for the NY-based band. It was their first non-conceptual album, pausing the beloved The Amory Wars, a seven-album science fiction saga that also bore a comic book empire, in favor of a more personal outing. “It’s very much a time capsule of the two years leading up to this recording,” Claudio Sanchez said. “I first created The Amory Wars in 1998 because at the time, I was afraid to share my personal stories. I didn’t want them or the subject matter to be judged, so I translated my personal experiences into these fictitious characters and landscapes so I could hide behind them. With The Color Before the Sun, I figured it was time to pull back the curtain.”
Rolling Stone declared The Color Before The Sun “a dramatic departure,” Noisey said the new album proves “there are no boundaries for a Coheed and Cambria album” and Alternative Press, in a four-star review, added “the album pops and pulsates with signature Coheed wails and riffs.” The Nerdist, who premiered the band’s ode to the ‘80s video for “You Got Spirit, Kid”, said the new music “features much of what has made Coheed and Cambria a force for the last two decades.” The Color Before The Sun was Coheed and Cambria’s 6th consecutive Top 10 Billboard charting album, and their third to debut at #5 on the Billboard top current chart with 32,000 units sold.
Coheed and Cambria will be on the road in The States this Fall, on a massive tour with Saves The Day and Polyphia. Kicking off in Seattle this September, the tour takes the band through U.S. markets including a sold out show in Sacramento, Chainfest in Santa Ana, CA (with Portugal the Man and Title Fight), a handful of stops in Canada and closing out with an already sold out show at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey.
The band will also be touring through the UK this August, appearing at Leeds and Reading Festival, with additional dates with La Dispute and mewithoutYou.

East coast LGBT rap collective The AlliYance presents the music video for “Cake”, the new EarthTone-produced single from their forthcoming debut EPIntroducing… The AlliYance. Director G. Addison shot two music videos for “Cake”, both of which are included at the Youtube link. Comprised of I.K.P., who recently dropped visuals for “You Know The Drill” (watch), Billy Hood, EarthTone and producer/engineer Swanny River, The AlliYance’s first collaboration was the “I Be On It” single (watch the music video). “Cake” marks the next of a list of various content The AlliYance will drop every Fridaythrough July under the hashtag #JulYance, the first being the “Seltzer Water” single (stream) from the Prequel mixtape which dropped July 1 (stream). “The song is almost like a ‘word game’, like how many different ways can you talk about “cake” in a song? EarthTone had created the track and we all vibed to it instantly. He had the concept and then it kinda became a running inside joke between us so we brought that kind of energy to the record. We wanted people to have just as much with the song as we did making it. All puns intended.”

Today, NASA announced a collaboration with Apple, designed to help further enhance the agency’s efforts to inform and excite the public about dramatic missions of exploration like Juno. “Destination: Juno” is a synergy between two seemingly disparate worlds, that of popular music and interplanetary exploration. The result: the dulcet sounds of some of today’s most exploratory musical artists, including GZA, Brad Paisley, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jim James, Quiñ, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Weezer, and Zoé, whose works have been inspired by Juno and other NASA missions.
On “The Spark,” GZA presents a history of the universe, as only he can. Over a hypnotic guitar sample and a live drumbeat, the Wu-Tang legend makes science sound fit for a comic book or kung fu film. “Matter and antimatter, the archrival,” he says. “Met, obliterating each other for survival.” “The Spark” was recorded to celebrate NASA’s Juno Mission, which arrives in Jupiter’s orbit on July 4, 2016. The song was produced by Paul Ryder (Happy Mondays) & Jesse Pritchett and premiered on Beats 1 Radio.
Apple has also captured moments in this journey with a behind the scenes documentary spearheaded by the Juno mission’s principal investigator, Scott Bolton, and scored by Nine Inch Nails frontman and GRAMMY-winning musician Trent Reznor. All content is available now on Apple Music and iTunes. Other Juno-related content, including educational opportunities with Bill Nye on iTunes U and an “Interactive Guide to NASA’s Juno Mission” on iBooks, will roll out over the course of a year and throughout the length of the Juno mission.

Twenty One Pilots is set to hit Pittsburgh twice this year and if their first stop at Stage AE is any indication, their return in January to Consol Energy Center will be an all out banger. With people waiting in line as early as five days before and having to brave the porta-potties left from the Beyonce concert at Heinz Field, the level of commitment from some fans was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.
With lots of dressed up fans,a crazy long merch line, and the audience screaming every single lyric while jumping like mad people, their was more to the show than what was happening onstage. In six years 21 Pilots has built a quasi-empire in the making. Last year’s “Blurryface” seemed to have cemented their position as a chart-topping, genre-bending band.
Joseph and Dun combine their antics with huge screens displaying videos, making for an interactive environment that connects with people. They also have looked at the history of theatrical rock and adapted a page or two from the record books. Multiple costume changes, jamming with opening band members Chef’ Special and Mute Math, a backflip off a piano, and crew members joining in on the fun in hazmat suits, the boys from Columbus, OH know how to keep the audience coming back for more. Both band and audience will do just that when they will undoubtedly pack the larger venue on January 27, 2017.
Openers Chef’ Special international hit single “In Your Arms” was named as one of “Tomorrow’s Hits” by Billboard, “In Your Arms,” is currently climbing at Alternative and AAA radio outlets nationwide here in the US. Chef’Special has built a loyal following in their native Netherlands with their combination of hip-hop, rock, funk, catchy pop and laid-back reggae sound. Formed in 2008 in the Netherlands, Chef’Special has toured extensively and has built an enormous fan base across Europe. They were named “Best Band” at the 2015 Dutch Public Broadcasting’s NPO 3FM Awards and had previously been named 2014’s “Best Live Act.” These guys are a definite “must see” so make sure you get their early.
Mute Math, out of New Orleans, are no strangers to touring and have built a lot of their reputation on tremendous live shows. 2007 was their eal outbreak with, “Typical” and the ensuing backward video. Their newest effort Vitals (2015), continues to see their upward trajectory and their performance last Wednesday was certainly an indication that the best is yeat to come.

Today, The Dan Ryan’s swirling psychedelic self-titled debut is streaming in full viaPureVolume. The seven diverse tracks flow seamlessly to create a dreamy, kaleidoscopic sonic landscape. You can now stream the album in its entirety viaPureVolume and Cosmic Dreamer.
If the Grateful Dead of 1977 started collaborating with the Grateful Dead of 1966 under George Harrison’s supervision in 2014, the result would sound similar to The Dan Ryan. Sonically, the LP is unique, blending pop sensibilities and electronic textures with tender vocals. Experimental and deeply personal, the songs bear a chapter of change with deep lyrical content, yet the music never becomes too dark or overbearing.
The Dan Ryan LP is also the first release from new record label Cosmic Dreamer Music, based in Venice, CA. Cosmic Dreamer is a platform for artistic expression. Founded by visual artists who play music, the label believes in the power of connecting with others through sight, sound, and experience. Future releases include those from Onsen and Allelujah.
Formed in 2011 as a side project of Hospital Ships’ Nathan Dixey in Lawrence, KS, The Dan Ryan is now based in Austin, TX, where the debut LP was home-recorded between December 2013 to July 2014. Psychedelic and deeply personal, these songs bear a chapter of change and evoke the fleeting nature of one’s perspective on life.
The Dan Ryan stretches eleven miles through the south side of Chicago. A clogged artery, the expressway slowly churns its commuters from the city’s heart to the ghettos, outskirts, and suburbs out beyond Northwest Indiana. Trains shuffle through its enormous median to 95thStreet. Great iron edifices deliver passengers east and westbound, roaring seventy feet above the freeway’s concrete floor. Tucked in the city’s southwest corner lays a patch of forest bearing the same name. Carved by glaciers, The Dan Ryan Woods boast Chicago’s highest vantage point. Climb its light towers to admire her big, broad, shimmering shoulders. Linger under its giant maples to escape the whirr of the city streets. The Dan Ryan represents the imminent collision between tranquility and transition; an acknowledgement that regardless of ones stature, seat, or disposition, you’re still along for the ride.

National Tour with The Thermals
“Summer Cannibals got its name from a song by Patti Smith and Fred “Sonic” Smith. Like Patti and Fred, the band does not shy away from tackling big issues in its work.”
— NPR All Songs Considered
Recent Kill Rock Stars signees Summer Cannibals expertly balance flame-belching Mad Max riffage with lyrics frankly exploring questions of codependence and need.
“The album’s title track is exemplary of that control, with alternating sections of calm and mayhem reminiscent of early Sleater-Kinney. It’s a jagged, blistering three and half minutes of intertwining, rhythmic bass and electric riffs and smashing drums.”
“There are shades of late 90s Sleater-Kinney in the loud-quiet-loud of it all, not least in Boudreaux’s voice, snarling at all the right moments.”
“The band’s latest zooms in with a series of robust guitar chugs, sharpening its already metallic edge.”
“ …refine the fuzzy garage-pop of its debut into something sharper, tighter, and much more difficult to shake off.”
— Entertainment Weekly

American rock band, The Black Six, are about to release their first full-length debut album, “Dirt & Bones.” They’ll kick things off with a record release show mid summer (self-release imid-Julyly) and spend the next two months on and off the road promoting the album.
The Black Six are a gritty rock group featuring Camden Leeds (guitar/vocals), Clark Johnson (guitar/vocals), Noland Jenkins (Bass), and Matt Gray (drums). The American band formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2010, (originally called Of An Empire) and recorded a handful of buzz-worthy demos between 2010 and 2014, which resulted in a self-titled full-length debut album at the end of 2014. The first material from the next album, mastered by Paul Logus, appears in the form of the riff-based single, “God Save the Queen.” Dirt & Bones, the accompanying full-length, is slated to release in July of 2016.

Touring in support of his new album, THE STORY OF FRED SHORT
FRIDAY, JUNE 3
Doors at 8pm / Show at 9pm
“[Marco] continues a rewarding effort to straighten his twisted sound into the guise of an indie-rock singer-songwriter, harnessing his inventive sonic palette into rewardingly bite-size pop songs that touch on disco and soul” – LA Times
“Music that disregards genres, and the new album definitely carries on that omnivorous approach” – All Music
“The keyboardist’s finest compositional achievement thus far” – Relix
“A swirling pastiche of deep grooves, buoyant pop filigrees and grinding old-school psychedelic reveries” – Boulder Weekly
For more than a decade pianist Marco Benevento has been amassing an extensive body of work. His studio albums and live performances set forth a vision that connects the vast space between LCD Soundsystem and Leon Russell, pulsating with dance rock energy, but smart, earthy songwriting to match. It has led to numerous high profile appearances, ranging fromCarnegie Hall to Pickathon, Mountain Jam to Bonnaroo, while headlining shows coast to coast.
Marco Benevento’s latest LP, The Story of Fred Short, is some of his finest and most adventurous work to date—a maestro making “bold indie rock” says Brooklyn Vegan. The collection is the follow-up to 2014’s Swift, which found Benevento singing for the first time and honing his psych rock and late night dance party sensibilities. The Story Of Fred Short is a continuation of this exploration with Benevento citing everything from Harry Nilsson, Manu Chau and Gorillaz as inspiration.
Divided into two sides, The Story Of Fred Short oozes with Benevento’s relentless creative spirit in songwriting, performance and production. Side A is stuffed with mesmerizing dance rock gold. Marco doubles down on the groove using a rare Casio drum machine that’s become a recurring muse, in addition to a live drummer. The B Side tells the story of Fred Short in seven chapters of wild, heavy rock n’ roll. Fred Short was a Native American man known for throwing musical bacchanals on the property Marco now lives on in the Catskills.
As anybody who’s seen Marco Benevento perform can attest, with eyes closed, smile wide across his face and fingers free-flowing across the keys, he’s a satellite to the muse. With a devout and growing fan-base, Benevento is an artist whose story is only beginning to unfold.

In advance of the release of their fourth full-length, Memento Collider, Norwegian avant-garde rockers/recent Karisma Records signees, VIRUS, today issue the official new video accompaniment to the track “Rogue Fossil” via Stereogum.
The twisted, animated clip was created by renowned Romanian multi-media artist Costin Chioreanu, who says of his new creation for the pioneering experimental rockers, “I went beyond all my boundaries and I have a feeling I touched a bit of insanity. You know that it’s going to be something unique.” Having made his mark not only as a graphic artist, but also as a stage artist, musician, animator, and movie maker at a relatively young age, Chioreanu’s visual manifestation for VIRUS is the latest in a series of collaborations with artists from Karisma Records, and its sister label Dark Essence Records.
“I’m not sure if you even can adequately prepare someone for VIRUS, any more than you can verbally explain the experience of seeing the Grand Canyon in person for the first time,” offers Stereogum of the latest track, further elaborating of “Rogue Fossil,” “Its nervous shuffle and up-the-ribcage guitar clatter will immediately inform you that you are now in unfamiliar country, and Costin Chioreanu’s nightmare-fuel storybook of a music video deepens the impression. But even [vocalist/guitarist] Czral’s [Carl ‘Czral’ Michael Eide] deadpan croon somehow does not stop ‘Rogue Fossil’ from immediately registering as a song – not a ‘piece’ or ‘suite’ whatever, but a song – and a damn fun one at that. VIRUS‘ music often evokes dreamy introspection, but ‘Rogue Fossil’ showcases their springy, sardonic side. It is highly unusual for music this weird to offer such immediate delights.”
Watch “Rogue Fossil,” courtesy of Stereogum, at THIS LOCATION.
You can also hear “Steamer,” still streaming at Decibel at THIS LOCATION.
Set for release on Karisma Records on the 3rd of June, Memento Collider was recorded at the Amper Tone Studios in Oslo and includes a guest appearance from Voivod’s Dan Mongrain. It is, without a doubt, an album that demonstrates the true essence of progressive rock. To preorder Momento Collider on CD or vinyl go HERE. For digital orders, go HERE.
For over a decade now, VIRUS has maintained their status as one of the most unique bands to have emerged from Norway’s burgeoning progressive music scene. Memento Collider sees the band returning to their original three-piece lineup of Czral on guitars and vocals, Petter “Plenum” Berntsen on bass, and Einar “Einz” Sjursø on drums. Their otherworldly sound, replete with flowing bass lines, experimental riffs, and groovy rhythms, is still the epitome of all that is contained in the definition of “progressive” and “experimental,” and with this, their fourth full-length release, VIRUS have come storming back with an album that is also catchy and melodic.
Sonic assailants Death From Above 1979 is coming through Pittsburgh on a tour with AWOLNATION atStage AE on Thurs, July 7th
Death From Above 1979 Live From Third Man Records was released last month.
Check it out here…
The first whispers of Death From Above 1979 occurred late last century when Jesse F. Keeler was busy playing punk rock music in Euro squats, while Sebastien Grainger took acid in Montreal then watched his friend Evan put on women’s clothing to the tune of Deep Purple’s In Rock and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, Original Cast Recording. Following a brief obsession with the technological apocalypse known as “Y2K,” the Western world started asking interesting questions again and these questions led to answers. These answers, in the Socratic style, were also questions; “Hey, What happened?” and “What is the internet, really?” These questions, in turn, were answered with yawns. Then in June 2000, when everyone was still waking up from the dream/nightmare known as The Nineties, Jesse and Sebastien bumped shoulders while stretching out at a Sonic Youth show in Toronto. What followed was a brief yet fertile courtship; countless nights driving around Toronto listening to Robert Johnson and Mobb Deep, the Rolling Stones and Daft Punk—anything but “heavy music.” Soon, they found themselves behind their instruments, Jesse and Sebastien both playing hard and loud because it felt good. Their rehearsals were punctuated by absurdist conversation and postadolescent shenanigans. At this time, “free beer” meant walking around a bar drinking the ends of other people’s bottles. This age of innocence lasted roughly until the Canadian national holiday of All Hollow’s Eve in 2004, when our two heroes released their debut long-playing record, “You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine.” What followed was an inhumane amount of touring. Together in a battered baby blue van, they affectionately named “Vangina,” they sprouted up from the soil of hardcore and punk rock to the bright lights and smoke machines of the rock ‘n’ roll stage. Soon, tensions began to rumble beneath; a secret UFC-style battle of egos, alcohol and other famed indulgences. But the two spry bucks maintained solidarity and all frustration and explicit emotions were locked away in a blackened cast iron kettle in the pits of their bellies. One day, those two kettles screeched with the steam song of the industrial revolution, and thus, the band broke up. After that day, a force divided, the two men toiled in the fields of dance music and rock ‘n’ roll for five years without a word muttered between them. For a time, that was the end. In 2010, with a decade-long divide, Jesse and Sebastien met again, not unlike the first time. Their reunion was sparked by an overwhelming demand from an un-satiated public to see this force of humanity perform. In 2011, the narrative resumed with a year-long reunion tour that cemented not only their place in the current cultural landscape, but also their legend. The excitement of playing live again drove them to that old, Socratic Method that often leaves more questions than answers. Questions beget questions, and what came next is where we are: the present. Its 10 years later and we’re still writing our own bios, still playing too loud and still punctuating it all with absurdity. In the fall of 2014, we will release our first record together in a decade. Our epic proposal, entitled “The Physical World” was written and recorded between 2012 and 2014 in some real life Rorschach test where the past and present are perfectly symmetrical and equally terrifying. We hope you enjoy.
