Grouplove first came together in 2009 and were quickly hailed for their standout live performances, both as headliners and at such international festivals as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Reading + Leeds Festivals, and Glastonbury.  A year after releasing a self-titled EP in 2010, the band returned with their debut full length “NEVER TRUST A HAPPY SONG” featuring a trio of breakout singles – “Colours,” “Itchin’ On A Photograph,” and the RIAA-certified platinum hit “Tongue Tied” which spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Alternative radio chart. The quintet’s second full length album – 2013’s “SPREADING RUMOURS” – was met with a raft of acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times, NYLON, and National Public Radio who called it “ludicrously easy to love.”  As with all of Grouplove’s recorded material, the collection was produced by the band’s own Ryan Rabin, and was highlighted by singles “Ways To Go” and “Shark Attack.”  In 2014, Grouplove contributed the original song “Let Me In” to  “The Fault in Our Stars – Music From the Motion Picture,” the musical companion to the blockbuster film based on The New York Times bestseller. That same year, the band was tapped to create the theme song to the Netflix Original Series “BoJack Horseman.” Last year, vocalist/keyboardist Hannah Hooper collaborated with Volcom for a Lady Grouplove capsule collection of clothing inspired by her personal style and artwork.
Grouplove is: Christian Zucconi (vocals, guitar), Hannah Hooper (vocals, keys), Andrew Wessen (guitar, vocals), Ryan Rabin (drums), and Daniel Gleason (bass).

Coheed and Cambria debut new video | release “The Color Before The Sun: Deconstructed Deluxe”

+ upcoming tour w/ Saves The Day and Polyphia
+ “The Color Before The Sun” (Deconstructed Deluxe) available digitally via 300 Entertainment
Coheed and Cambria have released a digital deluxe edition of their eighth studio album, entitled The Color Before The Sun: Deconstructed. The collection was made available August 19 via 300 Entertainment. In conjunction with the rerelease, the band are now premiering a video for one of the two bonus demos, “Bridge and Tunnel.” The clip features stunning views of NYC and it’s skyline, an ode to the city that has had an overwhelming influence on the band.
The 30-track presentation features the original album’s 10 songs, both in the studio, and in their early acoustic demo form, as well as two bonus demos that were never recorded in the studio. The demos, called, “Big Beige/4th St,” were named after band frontman, Claudio Sanchez‘s home, “The Big Beige” in upstate NY as well as his old apartment in Brooklyn, “4th Street” – since he wrote and documented them in each residence. These mostly acoustic demo tracks had previously only been made available to core fans who purchased the band’s Limited Edition Deluxe Box set, which featured a 76 page physical book.  Also included in “Deconstructed” are 7 live “bootleg” tracks pulled straight from the soundboard from various dates on their recent US headline tour, that expose a very raw look at the band.

Coheed and Cambria’s ten song album, The Color Before The Sun was released in October 2015 via 300 Entertainment, marking a bold departure for the NY-based band. It was their first non-conceptual album, pausing the beloved The Amory Wars, a seven-album science fiction saga that also bore a comic book empire, in favor of a more personal outing.  “It’s very much a time capsule of the two years leading up to this recording,” Claudio Sanchez said. “I first created The Amory Wars in 1998 because at the time, I was afraid to share my personal stories. I didn’t want them or the subject matter to be judged, so I translated my personal experiences into these fictitious characters and landscapes so I could hide behind them. With The Color Before the Sun, I figured it was time to pull back the curtain.”
Rolling Stone declared The Color Before The Sun “a dramatic departure,” Noisey said the new album proves “there are no boundaries for a Coheed and Cambria album” and Alternative Press, in a four-star review, added “the album pops and pulsates with signature Coheed wails and riffs.” The Nerdist, who premiered the band’s ode to the ‘80s video for “You Got Spirit, Kid”, said the new music “features much of what has made Coheed and Cambria a force for the last two decades.” The Color Before The Sun was Coheed and Cambria’s 6th consecutive Top 10 Billboard charting album, and their third to debut at #5 on the Billboard top current chart with 32,000 units sold.
Coheed and Cambria will be on the road in The States this Fall, on a massive tour with Saves The Day and Polyphia.  Kicking off in Seattle this September, the tour takes the band through U.S. markets including a sold out show in Sacramento,  Chainfest in Santa Ana, CA (with Portugal the Man and Title Fight), a handful of stops in Canada and closing out with an already sold out show at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey.
The band will also be touring through the UK this August, appearing at Leeds and Reading Festival, with additional dates with La Dispute and mewithoutYou.
“Deconstructed Deluxe is available now via 300 Entertainment and can be purchased on  iTunesAmazon and GooglePlay and is available for streaming via Spotify.

The AlliYance, “Cake”. LGBT crew from NYC drops two videos for one single

East coast LGBT rap collective The AlliYance presents the music video for “Cake”, the new EarthTone-produced single from their forthcoming debut EPIntroducing… The AlliYance. Director G. Addison shot two music videos for “Cake”, both of which are included at the Youtube link. Comprised of I.K.P., who recently dropped visuals for “You Know The Drill” (watch), Billy Hood, EarthTone and producer/engineer Swanny River, The AlliYance’s first collaboration was the “I Be On It” single (watch the music video). “Cake” marks the next of a list of various content The AlliYance will drop every Fridaythrough July under the hashtag #JulYance, the first being the “Seltzer Water” single (stream) from the Prequel mixtape which dropped July 1 (stream). “The song is almost like a ‘word game’, like how many different ways can you talk about “cake” in a song? EarthTone had created the track and we all vibed to it instantly. He had the concept and then it kinda became a running inside joke between us so we brought that kind of energy to the record. We wanted people to have just as much with the song as we did making it. All puns intended.”

Pixies Announce New CD, Bass Player, Tour

Pixies announce that their sophomore “post-reunion” album, Head Carrier, will be released onSeptember 30 (Pixiesmusic/Play It Again Sam/ [PIAS]).  The 12-track collection of the band’s unique aural mix of surrealism, psychedelia, dissonance and surf rock was produced by Tom Dalgety (Killing Joke, Royal Blood) and recorded at London’s Rak Studios from mid-February through to mid-March this year.  Fans can get a taste of the new music by going to  pixiesmusic.com and checking out the first single, “Um Chagga Lagga.”  Featuring original artwork by the band’s longtime art director, the legendary Vaughan Oliver, the album will be available in various formats and can be pre-ordered now; go to pixiesmusic.com for details and purchasing.
A special limited edition deluxe box set of Head Carrier will be avaialble exclusively through Pixiesmusic.com, and will include the CD, the album on heavy-weight/180 gram black vinyl, and a 24-page, oversized booklet with the song’s lyrics and Oliver’s evocative, original artwork.  Also available only through the band’s website is a special bundle that includes the deluxe box set, special t-shirt, and a special screen printed 12 “x 12” record sleeve-sized poster of Oliver’s album artwork.
“Um Chagga Lagga” Artwork

To support Head Carrier, Pixies will launch the first leg of their 2016 – 2017 global tour with a European run that begins November 15 in Vienna.  Tickets go on sale Friday, July 8.  Confirmed dates are below; go to pixiesmusic.com for ticketing info.

For the first time since their very early days, the Pixies spent a total of six weeks in pre-production, writing, arranging and rehearsing a plethora of songs.  Between the band’s late-80s/early 90s touring schedule and delivering an album once a year, there simply wasn’t time for more than a day or so of fleshing out their music before recording started.
“This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out,” said Pixies drummer David Lovering.  “By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make ‘Indie Cindy.’  And it was great working with Tom…he started with us in pre-production and played a big part in keeping us focused on making the best music we could.”
In addition, the band – Lovering, rhythm guitarist/vocalist Black Francis and guitarist Joey Santiago – officially welcome bassist Paz Lenchantin to the Pixies’ permanent line-up.  Lenchantin has been the band’s touring bassist since January 2014, and played an integral part in the recording of Head Carrier.  Her cool and dreamy soprano can be heard singing lead on the track “All I Think About Now.”
“I was very nervous in the beginning when I went to that first rehearsal,” said Lenchantin.  “There were these shoes I felt I had to fill and I tried to do the best I could for the fans, to make the live performances sound true to the originals. I spent three years learning to understand what being a Pixie meant, and now, my heart, spirit, and love for their music is embedded in me and I feel like I have become a Pixie.  We had been more about the history of the Pixies, but now, we are about going forward.”
“Paz is a joy to be around,” added Lovering.  “She’s very funny, and we’re having more fun than we’ve ever had as a band, we all have a blast together, on and off stage.”
All songs were written by the Pixies apart from “All I Think About Now,” which was written by Francis and Lenchantin.  The track listing for Head Carrier is as follows:
Head Carrier

Baal’s Back

LYRICS
VERSE 1
I’m the nigga came up cold
All the shit they must atone
Let my enemies yell at me, hobby for the young bro
It’s a tragedy when someone black as me get gold
Time to slaughter, Street Fighter fist, that’s Nintendo
Told my alma mater gotta send me money, Venmo
Put us on map, don’t sleep siesta, man, blow
Jack won’t be no nigga serenading with a banjo
Real reckless dude with a crew, carry ammo

Thought predicting winning would be something so taboo
But now I’m monkeying around with my brothers, baboons
Atlanta in Hollywood, it’s on schedule
Chef in the bank, been eatin, check my dental
Plenty sugar, suite life, kicked it in the pent, ho
My sheets all green, they don’t knit me a bando
And a nice sweater, too fit, seen levels
Floating here, shining, I need me a drum roll
CHORUS
I’m too raw raw raw, I’m a villain, I’m a don
Mask and cape, somebody ring the alarm
Wild boy boy boy, can’t tame me, nah
Started that flame, somebody ring the alarm
VERSE 2
I’m the nigga, hit em quick, right hook, threw the fist,
All the leeches swimming with me getting no benefit
In the dirty pond, fake homies won’t ever stick
Hang with real players, my gamers control this shit
Did it for the Internet, choke a youngin by his neck
Hoping some bystanders lookin and filmin  it
Another Atlanta nigga dead, killed by his best friend
Said he changed on em, didn’t text back or DM
I’m the nigga represent, I’m your mans till the end
Raise up my kinfolk, take over, that’s the plan
On a mission, 100 grand, sickness showing symptoms man
Rather be hurting than healthy and not a champ
Nigga I done  been the man, my pillow talk to the bands
Sleep real good when there’s dinner ready for my fam
I ain’t fucking comfortable, running out, take a stand
Started that fire, I’m a hoodlum in gym pants
CHORUS
VERSE 3
Stunt with all the things you got
Ain’t gon put em in a box
You ain’t never gon stop
Raise some funds, cop the stocks
Do it til they know your name on the block
Til you respected, claim your right, you the king of the lot
I’m Afro Caesar, mean I don’t play with you guys
No lames in my chariot, no snakes in my ride
Cruising for days tryna find me the pot
Of gold, when I do imma feel like…

GZA & NASA Join Forces for New Single “The Spark”

Today, NASA announced a collaboration with Apple, designed to help further enhance the agency’s efforts to inform and excite the public about dramatic missions of exploration like Juno. “Destination: Juno” is a synergy between two seemingly disparate worlds, that of popular music and interplanetary exploration. The result: the dulcet sounds of some of today’s most exploratory musical artists, including GZA,  Brad Paisley, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jim James, Quiñ, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Weezer, and Zoé, whose works have been inspired by Juno and other NASA missions.

On “The Spark,” GZA presents a history of the universe, as only he can. Over a hypnotic guitar sample and a live drumbeat, the Wu-Tang legend makes science sound fit for a comic book or kung fu film. “Matter and antimatter, the archrival,” he says. “Met, obliterating each other for survival.” “The Spark” was recorded to celebrate NASA’s Juno Mission, which arrives in Jupiter’s orbit on July 4, 2016. The song was produced by Paul Ryder (Happy Mondays) & Jesse Pritchett and premiered on Beats 1 Radio.

Apple has also captured moments in this journey with a behind the scenes documentary spearheaded by the Juno mission’s principal investigator, Scott Bolton, and scored by Nine Inch Nails frontman and GRAMMY-winning musician Trent Reznor. All content is available now on Apple Music and iTunes. Other Juno-related content, including educational opportunities with Bill Nye on iTunes U and an “Interactive Guide to NASA’s Juno Mission” on iBooks, will roll out over the course of a year and throughout the length of the Juno mission.

Zangba: Hip-Hop, Soul, and R&B

Zangba
Hip-Hop, Soul, and R&B
Zangba Thomson, musically known as Zangba, is an urban, best-selling novelist and recording artist at Bong Mines Entertainment LLC. He was originally born in Bong Mines, Liberia, and at the tender age of 8, he migrated to Jamaica, a rough and tough neighborhood in Queens, NY; just one block from the famous Coliseum Mall. Zangba and his sister lived in their mother’s studio apartment, next door to the legendary Shirt Kings, known for airbrushing custom designs on t-shirts and sweaters for the likes of LL Cool J, Jam Master Jay, Audio Two, and Just Ice to name a few.

Zangba adjusted well to his new concrete environment, and later became good friends with juveniles from South side, Jamaica. One comrade in particular, Sal Brown, kept Zangba up to speed on everything he needed to know. But when Sal got murdered in cold blood, Zangba felt lost, and spiraled out of control. One day he unexpectedly walked into a video shoot, and seen LL Cool J with his arms around two female models. That up close and personal view, much closer than what Yo’ MTV Raps could have shown him, left such an everlasting impression on Zangba’s mind, that he took a special liking to the emceeing aspect of Hip-Hop. But what really solidified the art form in Zangba’s heart was when he saw Boogie Down Productions’ My Philosophy music video. Immediately, KRS-One became the first emcee that Zangba admired because Kris’ word play, his philosophy, and raps about Africa hit home, and Zangba began writing his own raps, eventually forming a rap group with his good friends, Guerilla Maine and Boo Harv; their first recorded song ended up on Cutmaster C’s “Back To School” mixtape.

Years later, Zangba befriended the late Mazaradi Fox on the same block where he met Large Professor, who ended up recording Zangba’s first demo in his basement. Around that time, Zangba’s late friend Kentele sent Zangba a letter from prison, with instructions, which resulted in Zangba’s pivotal meeting with rap mogul 50 Cent. After that, Zangba recorded Three Black Boys at Hillie Hill’s studio, and later adapted the song into the urban, best-selling novel Three Black Boys: Tomorrow After Supper. The following year, Zangba and Jean Alerte co-wrote “Do Right Do Good”, endorsed by Russell Simmons and Dr. Dennis Kimbro; in 2015, Alerte and Zangba, along with 6 other authors, released the urban, best-selling relationship guidebook “Single Man Married Man”, which received major media attention from ABC, NBC, and FOX; in 2016, Zangba released “Take a Look… There’s Money All Around You!”, a prosperity, life-changing guidebook, which highlights the secret ingredients needed to become a prosperous moneymaking machine; and now, “Hip-Hop, Soul, and R&B”, a lovable, 10-track album with relatable lyrics that will surely take listeners on a joyful ride down lovers’ lane, where true love is the theme and being “in love” is the name of the game.

Savoy Motel @Brillobox June 18: hybrid of glam rock, boogie, soul, dance music and showmanship

What’s Your Rupture’s latest signee Savoy Motel are a Nashville pedigree of power-pop, garage and punk (Members previously of Cheap Time and Heavy Cream).

They’re an intensely orchestrated hybrid of glam rock, boogie, soul, dance music and showmanship… I’ve heard they’re the finest live band in Nashville right now.  Listen and check out their vibe with their past single “Hot One“.  They got a lot of love with their first single the other week from PitchforkStereogum and others.
They’ve just wrapped up a slew of tour dates with Black Lips and are set to play Brillobox on June 18.

Twenty One Pilots Emøtional Røadshøw tour w/ Mute Math, and Chef’ Special- Stage AE Pittsburgh 6/1/16

Twenty One Pilots is set to hit Pittsburgh twice this year and if their first stop at Stage AE is any indication, their return in January to Consol Energy Center will be an all out banger.  With people waiting in line as early as five days before and having to brave the porta-potties left from the Beyonce concert at Heinz Field, the level of commitment from some fans was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

With lots of dressed up fans,a crazy long merch line, and the audience screaming every single lyric while jumping like mad people, their was more to the show than what was happening onstage.  In six years 21 Pilots has built a quasi-empire in the making.  Last year’s “Blurryface” seemed to have cemented their position as a chart-topping, genre-bending band.

Joseph and Dun combine their antics with huge screens displaying videos, making for an interactive environment that connects with people.  They also have looked at the history of theatrical rock and adapted a page or two from the record books.  Multiple costume changes, jamming with opening band members Chef’ Special and Mute Math, a backflip off a piano, and crew members joining in on the fun in hazmat suits, the boys from Columbus, OH know how to keep the audience coming back for more.  Both band and audience will do just that when they will undoubtedly pack the larger venue on January 27, 2017.

Openers Chef’ Special international hit single “In Your Arms” was named as one of “Tomorrow’s Hits” by Billboard, “In Your Arms,” is currently climbing at Alternative and AAA radio outlets nationwide here in the US. ChefSpecial has built a loyal following in their native Netherlands with their combination of hip-hop, rock, funk, catchy pop and laid-back reggae sound. Formed in 2008 in the Netherlands, ChefSpecial has toured extensively and has built an enormous fan base across Europe. They were named “Best Band” at the 2015 Dutch Public Broadcasting’s NPO 3FM Awards and had previously been named 2014’s “Best Live Act.”  These guys are a definite “must see” so make sure you get their early.

Mute Math, out of New Orleans, are no strangers to touring and have built a lot of their reputation on tremendous live shows.  2007 was their eal outbreak with, “Typical” and the ensuing backward video.  Their newest effort Vitals (2015), continues to see their upward trajectory and their performance last Wednesday was certainly an indication that the best is yeat to come.

Today, The Dan Ryan’s swirling psychedelic self-titled debut is streaming in full viaPureVolume. The Austin-based project of Nathan Dixey is also the first official release of Venice, CA label Cosmic Dreamer Music. The seven diverse tracks flow seamlessly to create a dreamy, kaleidoscopic sonic landscape. You can now stream the album in its entirety viaPureVolume and Cosmic Dreamer.

If the Grateful Dead of 1977 started collaborating with the Grateful Dead of 1966 under George Harrison’s supervision in 2014, the result would sound similar to The Dan Ryan. Sonically, the LP is unique, blending pop sensibilities and electronic textures with tender vocals. Experimental and deeply personal, the songs bear a chapter of change with deep lyrical content, yet the music never becomes too dark or overbearing.

The Dan Ryan LP is also the first release from new record label Cosmic Dreamer Music, based in Venice, CA. Cosmic Dreamer is a platform for artistic expression. Founded by visual artists who play music, the label believes in the power of connecting with others through sight, sound, and experience. Future releases include those from Onsen and Allelujah.

Formed in 2011 as a side project of Hospital Ships’ Nathan Dixey in Lawrence, KS, The Dan Ryan is now based in Austin, TX, where the debut LP was home-recorded between December 2013 to July 2014. Psychedelic and deeply personal, these songs bear a chapter of change and evoke the fleeting nature of one’s perspective on life.

The Dan Ryan stretches eleven miles through the south side of Chicago. A clogged artery, the expressway slowly churns its commuters from the city’s heart to the ghettos, outskirts, and suburbs out beyond Northwest Indiana.  Trains shuffle through its enormous median to 95thStreet.  Great iron edifices deliver passengers east and westbound, roaring seventy feet above the freeway’s concrete floor. Tucked in the city’s southwest corner lays a patch of forest bearing the same name.  Carved by glaciers, The Dan Ryan Woods boast Chicago’s highest vantage point.  Climb its light towers to admire her big, broad, shimmering shoulders.  Linger under its giant maples to escape the whirr of the city streets. The Dan Ryan represents the imminent collision between tranquility and transition; an acknowledgement that regardless of ones stature, seat, or disposition, you’re still along for the ride.

“Summer Cannibals got its name from a song by Patti Smith and Fred “Sonic” Smith. Like Patti and Fred, the band does not shy away from tackling big issues in its work.”
NPR All Songs Considered

Recent Kill Rock Stars signees Summer Cannibals expertly balance flame-belching Mad Max riffage with lyrics frankly exploring questions of codependence and need.
Pitchfork

“The album’s title track is exemplary of that control, with alternating sections of calm and mayhem reminiscent of early Sleater-Kinney. It’s a jagged, blistering three and half minutes of intertwining, rhythmic bass and electric riffs and smashing drums.”
— Stereogum

“There are shades of late 90s Sleater-Kinney in the loud-quiet-loud of it all, not least in Boudreaux’s voice, snarling at all the right moments.”
— Noisey

“The band’s latest zooms in with a series of robust guitar chugs, sharpening its already metallic edge.”
— SPIN

“ …refine the fuzzy garage-pop of its debut into something sharper, tighter, and much more difficult to shake off.”

‘Chromesthesia’ is the first track released from the band’s upcoming album of the same name – you can download the track via their Bandcamp page.MODERN COLOR explores cerebral, thought-provoking themes within their songwriting, and this track offers a great introduction. This track in particular explores the idea of varying human perspectives and expressions.

The members of MODERN COLOR state, “The name is taken from a rare human condition in which people experience a variety of colors triggered by different sounds and tones they hear. Although none of us have the condition, the idea really stuck with us and we loosely based the album on how we express ourselves through our own sound and color. This track is the most focused of that idea.”

MODERN COLOR‘s previously released two track demo, Somewhere Else, is also available via Bandcamp hereThe demo features the track ‘Pale’, which the band released a music video for earlier this year: https://youtu.be/rcSZLDmKG3g

Pittsburgh’s ‘The Black Six’ Come Up with “Dirt & Bones”

American rock band, The Black Six, are about to release their first full-length debut album, “Dirt & Bones.”  They’ll kick things off with a record release show mid summer (self-release imid-Julyly) and spend the next two months on and off the road promoting the album.

Check out “God Save The Queen” here

The Black Six are a gritty rock group featuring Camden Leeds (guitar/vocals), Clark Johnson (guitar/vocals), Noland Jenkins (Bass), and Matt Gray (drums). The American band formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2010, (originally called Of An Empire) and recorded a handful of buzz-worthy demos between 2010 and 2014, which resulted in a self-titled full-length debut album at the end of 2014.  The first material from the next album, mastered by Paul Logus, appears in the form of the riff-based single, “God Save the Queen.” Dirt & Bones, the accompanying full-length, is slated to release in July of 2016.

SHOWS:

MISTUR: In Memoriam Full-Length Streaming At Decibel Band Unites Past And Present Members Of Vreid, Windir, Galar, And More

In Memoriam is the latest full-length from MISTUR. Their first record since 2009’s lauded Attendeoffering, In Memoriam sees MISTUR return with a masterpiece fielding long and layered arrangements, clever melodies and progressive elements mixed with its signature brand of “Sogna metal.” Already issued in Europe late last month via Dark Essence Records, the label will unleash In Memoriam in North America tomorrow, May 27th, 2016
In celebration of its release, Decibel Magazine is streaming the record in full

To order In Memoriam, go to THIS LOCATION
Forged in Sogndal, Norway by Espen Bakketeig and Andre Raunehaug, and joined shortly thereafter by Stian Bakketeig (Vreid, ex-Windir, ex-Cor Scorpii), MISTUR recorded just one demo, before landing a deal with Einheit Produktionen, who would release the band’s critically-adored Attende debut in 2009. Apart from some festival shows and a tour however, the band fell dormant for a short time, before the work on the follow up album started.
With new vocalist Oliver Øien and new drummer Tomas Myklebust, MISTUR is back and more potent than ever before. In Memoriam was captured in Conclave and Earshot Studios as well as the band’s private studio, produced by MISTUR mainman Espen Bakketeig, and mixed by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (Black Hole Generator, Vulture Industries). With In Memoriam, MISTUR brings new elements into the “Sogna metal” style without losing its unique core. The album is a must for all fans of Windir, but will certainly appeal to devotees of Amon Amarth, Insomnium, and Månegarm.
In a near-perfect 4.5/5 score, Sea Of Tranquility notes, “If your love of black metal leans towards the progressive, symphonic, epic, and adventurous spectrum, you have to check out In Memoriam… it’s that simple… a seriously good album, and a welcome return from a truly talented band that are firing on all cylinders.” In a 4/5 review, Sputnik Music elaborates, “the ‘bigger is better,’ or in this case, the ‘grandeur is grander, attitude has been taken into account in more ways than just one with MISTUR‘s latest… Every motif, every change of direction, every placement, all points towards a larger image. The unknown, impending doom induced by MISTUR‘s ruinous forays is magnificent. It may not extend its arms into the realms of pure ingenuity, but In Memoriam is 2016’s Brobdingnagian king.” In an 8/10 rating, Soundscape Magazine concurs, “In Memoriam is a great album, and one you’ll keep wanting to come back to. A highly recommended listen, particularly for those who are fans of Windir,” while Eternal Terror notes in a 5.5/6 verdict, “The dark vocals are superb, while the clean version adds to the national-romantic feel of the music, add flawless sound and production, and MISTUR is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and a serious contender to album of the year.” Adds No Clean Singing of the track “Distant Peaks,” specifically, “The song really does sound like the majestic soundtrack to a mythic saga – it’s panoramic, sweepingly powerful, and warlike, and the guitar and keyboard hooks are sharp as scalpels. When the storming pace slows, the music becomes heart-aching, but no less compelling. The tale told in the lyrics fires the blood, too.”

“[Marco] continues a rewarding effort to straighten his twisted sound into the guise of an indie-rock singer-songwriter, harnessing his inventive sonic palette into rewardingly bite-size pop songs that touch on disco and soul” – LA Times

“Music that disregards genres, and the new album definitely carries on that omnivorous approach” – All Music

“The keyboardist’s finest compositional achievement thus far” – Relix

“A swirling pastiche of deep grooves, buoyant pop filigrees and grinding old-school psychedelic reveries” – Boulder Weekly

For more than a decade pianist Marco Benevento has been amassing an extensive body of work. His studio albums and live performances set forth a vision that connects the vast space between LCD Soundsystem and Leon Russell, pulsating with dance rock energy, but smart, earthy songwriting to match. It has led to numerous high profile appearances, ranging fromCarnegie Hall to Pickathon, Mountain Jam to Bonnaroo, while headlining shows coast to coast.

Marco Benevento’s latest LP, The Story of Fred Short, is some of his finest and most adventurous work to date—a maestro making “bold indie rock” says Brooklyn Vegan.  The collection is the follow-up to 2014’s Swift, which found Benevento singing for the first time and honing his psych rock and late night dance party sensibilities. The Story Of Fred Short is a continuation of this exploration with Benevento citing everything from Harry Nilsson, Manu Chau and Gorillaz as inspiration.

Divided into two sides, The Story Of Fred Short oozes with Benevento’s relentless creative spirit in songwriting, performance and production.  Side A is stuffed with mesmerizing dance rock gold.  Marco doubles down on the groove using a rare Casio drum machine that’s become a recurring muse, in addition to a live drummer. The B Side tells the story of Fred Short in seven chapters of wild, heavy rock n’ roll.  Fred Short was a Native American man known for throwing musical bacchanals on the property Marco now lives on in the Catskills.

As anybody who’s seen Marco Benevento perform can attest, with eyes closed, smile wide across his face and fingers free-flowing across the keys, he’s a satellite to the muse. With a devout and growing fan-base, Benevento is an artist whose story is only beginning to unfold.

VIRUS: Norwegian Avant-Garde Rock Unit Reveals New Video For “Rogue Fossil” Via Stereogum

In advance of the release of their fourth full-length, Memento Collider, Norwegian avant-garde rockers/recent Karisma Records signees, VIRUS, today issue the official new video accompaniment to the track “Rogue Fossil” via Stereogum.

The twisted, animated clip was created by renowned Romanian multi-media artist Costin Chioreanu, who says of his new creation for the pioneering experimental rockers, “I went beyond all my boundaries and I have a feeling I touched a bit of insanity. You know that it’s going to be something unique.” Having made his mark not only as a graphic artist, but also as a stage artist, musician, animator, and movie maker at a relatively young age, Chioreanu’s visual manifestation for VIRUS is the latest in a series of collaborations with artists from Karisma Records, and its sister label Dark Essence Records.

“I’m not sure if you even can adequately prepare someone for VIRUS, any more than you can verbally explain the experience of seeing the Grand Canyon in person for the first time,” offers Stereogum of the latest track, further elaborating of “Rogue Fossil,” “Its nervous shuffle and up-the-ribcage guitar clatter will immediately inform you that you are now in unfamiliar country, and Costin Chioreanu’s nightmare-fuel storybook of a music video deepens the impression. But even [vocalist/guitarist] Czral’s [Carl ‘Czral’ Michael Eide] deadpan croon somehow does not stop ‘Rogue Fossil’ from immediately registering as a song – not a ‘piece’ or ‘suite’ whatever, but a song – and a damn fun one at that. VIRUS‘ music often evokes dreamy introspection, but ‘Rogue Fossil’ showcases their springy, sardonic side. It is highly unusual for music this weird to offer such immediate delights.”

Watch “Rogue Fossil,” courtesy of Stereogum, at THIS LOCATION.

You can also hear “Steamer,” still streaming at Decibel at THIS LOCATION.

Set for release on Karisma Records on the 3rd of June, Memento Collider was recorded at the Amper Tone Studios in Oslo and includes a guest appearance from Voivod’s Dan Mongrain. It is, without a doubt, an album that demonstrates the true essence of progressive rock. To preorder Momento Collider on CD or vinyl go HERE. For digital orders, go HERE.

For over a decade now, VIRUS has maintained their status as one of the most unique bands to have emerged from Norway’s burgeoning progressive music scene. Memento Collider sees the band returning to their original three-piece lineup of Czral on guitars and vocals, Petter “Plenum” Berntsen on bass, and Einar “Einz” Sjursø on drums. Their otherworldly sound, replete with flowing bass lines, experimental riffs, and groovy rhythms, is still the epitome of all that is contained in the definition of “progressive” and “experimental,” and with this, their fourth full-length release, VIRUS have come storming back with an album that is also catchy and melodic.

DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 with AWOLNATION @StageAE on 7/7

Sonic assailants Death From Above 1979 is coming through Pittsburgh on a tour with AWOLNATION atStage AE on Thurs, July 7th

Death From Above 1979 Live From Third Man Records was released last month.

Check it out here…

Bio:

The first whispers of Death From Above 1979 occurred late last century when Jesse F. Keeler was busy playing punk rock music in Euro squats, while Sebastien Grainger took acid in Montreal then watched his friend Evan put on women’s clothing to the tune of Deep Purple’s In Rock and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, Original Cast Recording. Following a brief obsession with the technological apocalypse known as “Y2K,” the Western world started asking interesting questions again and these questions led to answers. These answers, in the Socratic style, were also questions; “Hey, What happened?” and “What is the internet, really?” These questions, in turn, were answered with yawns. Then in June 2000, when everyone was still waking up from the dream/nightmare known as The Nineties, Jesse and Sebastien bumped shoulders while stretching out at a Sonic Youth show in Toronto. What followed was a brief yet fertile courtship; countless nights driving around Toronto listening to Robert Johnson and Mobb Deep, the Rolling Stones and Daft Punk—anything but “heavy music.” Soon, they found themselves behind their instruments, Jesse and Sebastien both playing hard and loud because it felt good. Their rehearsals were punctuated by absurdist conversation and postadolescent shenanigans. At this time, “free beer” meant walking around a bar drinking the ends of other people’s bottles. This age of innocence lasted roughly until the Canadian national holiday of All Hollow’s Eve in 2004, when our two heroes released their debut long-playing record, “You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine.” What followed was an inhumane amount of touring. Together in a battered baby blue van, they affectionately named “Vangina,” they sprouted up from the soil of hardcore and punk rock to the bright lights and smoke machines of the rock ‘n’ roll stage. Soon, tensions began to rumble beneath; a secret UFC-style battle of egos, alcohol and other famed indulgences. But the two spry bucks maintained solidarity and all frustration and explicit emotions were locked away in a blackened cast iron kettle in the pits of their bellies. One day, those two kettles screeched with the steam song of the industrial revolution, and thus, the band broke up. After that day, a force divided, the two men toiled in the fields of dance music and rock ‘n’ roll for five years without a word muttered between them. For a time, that was the end. In 2010, with a decade-long divide, Jesse and Sebastien met again, not unlike the first time. Their reunion was sparked by an overwhelming demand from an un-satiated public to see this force of humanity perform. In 2011, the narrative resumed with a year-long reunion tour that cemented not only their place in the current cultural landscape, but also their legend. The excitement of playing live again drove them to that old, Socratic Method that often leaves more questions than answers. Questions beget questions, and what came next is where we are: the present. Its 10 years later and we’re still writing our own bios, still playing too loud and still punctuating it all with absurdity. In the fall of 2014, we will release our first record together in a decade. Our epic proposal, entitled “The Physical World” was written and recorded between 2012 and 2014 in some real life Rorschach test where the past and present are perfectly symmetrical and equally terrifying. We hope you enjoy.

Sebastien and Jesse

FISTULA: Ohio Kings Of Sludge-Fueled Miserycore To Release Longing For Infection Full-Length; New Track Streaming + Preorders Available

Long-running Ohio volume abusers, FISTULA, will self-release their Longing For Infection full-length this Summer. Set for mass contamination on July 15th, 2016, the first pressing of Longing For Infection will be limited to one-thousand copies housed in digipak packaging bathed in the abysmal artwork of Jason Barnett. Preorders are currently available at THIS LOCATION.

Ohio’s FISTULA was forged in 1998 by musical partners-in-crime Corey Bing and Bahb Branca. Over the years, FISTULA has released a seemingly endless barrage of studio albums and split EPs through numerous lineup changes featuring the creative talents of bands such as -(16)-, Sloth, Hemdale, The Disease Concept, Accept Death, and so many others. FISTULA is a band that is impossible to categorize, combining elements of remedial sludge, hardcore and a proverbial “bad case of the Mondays.” Nearing two decades of ear bleeding, FISTULA remains the kings of doomed-out “miserycore.”
2015 saw the band at its creative peak, headlining the Het Patronaat stage at Roadburn Festival and recording the Destitute demo as well as the new full studio album Longing For Infection. In addition to Roadburn, FISTULA recently played the Haunted Hotel 13th Anniversary Fest as well as the Berserker III Fest. FISTULA will return to Europe (Bloodshed Festival) in October 2016 to bring their ultimate onslaught of pure, unbridled hatred, and negativity. FISTULA will release another full-length this Fall coinciding with the tour on Totem Cat Records. Entitled The Shape Of Doom To Cumm ))), the record will feature guest guitarist David Szulkin from Blood Farmers and Church Of Misery. Stand by for details.
Personnel response for all that racket:

KATALEPSY: Russian Death Sect Unloads “To The Lords Of Nihil” At Revolver; Gravenous Hour Release Day Draws Near

Next week, Moscow-based death metal sect, KATALEPSY, will unleash the chronic brutality of theirGravenous Hour full-length. As a precursor to its May 27th release through Unique Leader, today Revolver Magazine presents “To The Lords Of Nihil” for public celebration.

Check it out now at THIS LOCATION.

You can also twist your brain waves to the sounds of “Critical Black Mass,” still streaming courtesy of No Clean Singing at THIS LOCATION.

Gravenous Hour was captured at Cosmos Studios by Arkady Navaho (T.H.R.O.N., Obstetrical Palsy) with artwork by W. Smerdulak (Semargl, Blackthorn, Distant Sun et al). Preorder Gravenous Hour atTHIS LOCATION.

In a recent investigation of the record, No Clean Singing issues, “If Gravenous Hour is any sign of what is going on in modern death metal circles, there is certainly a reason to dive deeper into those turgid waters. While old-school death and Swedish death metal continue to reign ascendant, this younger generation of bands is certainly vying for the opportunity to take their place in extreme metal’s pantheon,” while Crown Of Viserys gushes, “If you love Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and Broken Hope, this album is definitely one for you to break your brutal death metal cherry.KATALEPSY forge forth another unbelievable album of brutality for all diehards and newcomers alike.” Two Guys Metal Reviews proclaims, “Gravenous Hour is a powerful statement, a tribute toKATALEPSY‘s unwillingness to compromisem and their desire to put out some of the most face melting riffs known to man. The production, songwritingm and execution of this record are all top notch…. There is something wonderfully visceral about the experience of listening to Gravenous Hour… and as the chugs resonate across your speakers and into your heart, you will find yourself raising a fist in honor of the true masters.” Dead Rhetoric notes, “Genre fans are sure to get a thrill out of Gravenous Hour. There’s a fresh energy and chaos level that KATALEPSY delivers with flair….This is burly, dynamic, and surprisingly memorable death metal.” Adds MetalSucks of the track “Critical Black Mass,” “…between vocalist Igor Filimontsev’s guttural delivery and the thick, ropey tone of the guitars, the song basically ends up sounding like metal’s answer to what happens to your asshole after enjoying an entire bottle of the hottest hot sauce you can find. This is what it sounds like when your anus is a fire breathing dragon.”

KATALEPSY was formed in 2004. The band’s first demo, Femicide, brought the first victims to the altar of brutality, which strengthened the band to a point where they began playing live beyond the Moscow region. In 2007 they gave birth to Musick Brings Injuries, and blood was spilled in circle pits and mosh-battles throughout Russia, which led to the Triumph Of Evolution three-way split CD with partners in crime Fleshrot and Blunt Force Trauma. This release gave the band opportunities to invade foreign lands on tour, beginning with a performance at Switzerland’s Mountains Of Death Open Air in 2008, followed by raids all over Europe where shows and festivals in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, and Finland became battlefields of unholy beatdowns to the band’s technical grooves. In 2010, KATALEPSY unleashed the Your Fear Is Our Inhabitancy EP followed by a three-week European tour, amidst a restructuring of the lineup, when the band caught the attention of Unique Leader Records, and inked a blood pact with the label. The signing was followed by the 2012 release of the band’s debut album, Autopsychosis, which was surrounded by widespread touring, and irreversibly brought a new horde of listeners into the band’s domain.
