Thomas Crane Releases Horrific Official Music Video for New Single, “Monsters Walk Among Us”!

Musician-turned-filmmaker THOMAS CRANE is jumping back into music, releasing his new single “Monsters Walk Among Us” with an epic new video along with it. Best known as a music video director, and the head of killDevil Films, he has directed videos for TODD LA TORRE of QUEENSRYCHESALIVAKAMELOTONCE HUMAN, and many more. With the new single and video, he’s now back in front of the camera, instead of behind it.

The video has already screened at various film festivals in the U.S. and internationally, winning the Best Music Video Award at the Paris Cinema Awards. It also picked up Best Rock/Metal Song honors at the Tracks Music Awards in Los Angeles, and was honorable mention for Best Rock Video at the Munich Music Video Awards. It is slated for several other film festivals throughout the fall and winter.

The video for “Monsters Walk Among Us” finds Crane taking on a kind of performance art, as he plays a character named “The Gemini Killer”. Clad in black leather, and face paint reminiscent of The Crow, The Gemini Killer is a ruthless but flamboyant serial killer, spouting lines such as “You know I love to creep, I murder to the beat”.

“As I was writing the song, I was drawn to the idea of the lyrics being written from the perspective of a serial killer. Kind of like how the Zodiac and others used to write letters to the press. I thought it was an interesting concept to write a song through a character and to continue that with the video. The lyrics are the Gemini Killer’s billet-doux, taunting authorities, embracing notoriety, and I wanted to him to have style and panache. He’s a bit of a troll. There’s definitely some social commentary in the video, about how the media loves to embrace villains for clicks and views. I think the over-the-top nature of the story makes that pretty clear.” – Thomas Crane

In the video, as the Gemini gains notoriety, he also attracts a group of alluring but deadly followers, joining him in the cross country murder spree. The women, named Cookie, Kitten, and Jayne, form a collective that the Gemini lovingly dubs “the murder supergroup”.

“Monsters Walk Among Us” is Crane’s first music release since 2019, when he launched the single “Spook House”. Before then, he had multiple releases with his band Marion Crane. As the head of killDevil Films, he has directed over 100 music videos, working with artists all over the country.

Thomas Crane got his start creating music videos for his own band Marion Crane. He founded killDevil Films in 2014 and began producing videos for other artists. Since then he has directed, filmed, and edited over 100 music videos, several commercial projects, and one short film – working with artists such as Todd La Torre of Queensryche, Saliva, Kamelot, Once Human, Eve to Adam, and many more.

In 2019, his first narrative film production was released – “Halloween Party”, a 38 minute horror/thriller short film, and it won The Florida Spotlight Award at The Spooky Empire horror convention in Tampa. The film is now available on Amazon Prime.

2019 also saw Crane’s first music release as a solo artist, with the single “Spook House”.

Crane plans to continue to work with artists on music videos as well as expand to feature-length films, with several projects in the pre-production phase.

LOVE THE HATE New Single, “Solid Ground,” Out NOW!

Mobile, AL based Heavy Rockers LOVE THE HATE has released their brutal new single, “Solid Ground.” With a dark, modern music video directed and filmed by Thomas Crane of KillDevil Films (SalivaTodd La Torre [Queensryche], Eve to Adam), “Solid Ground” has quickly dominated local and international radio, bringing the quintet’s unique brand of dark, heavy riffs and infectious melodies to an audience starved for honest rock music.

The band’s 6/22/2021 released music video for “Solid Ground” was filmed in an historic Mobile mansion known as the “Outlaw Mansion,” which inexplicably burned down shortly after. Often referred to as “Alabama’s Most Haunted House,” the sprawling property was once an opulent mansion–one of Alabama’s finest examples of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture–owned by the Outlaw family since 1925. Former Mobile Mayor Arthur Outlaw lived there until the mid-1980s.

“It played a big role in making the video so cool because it has all of the historical aspects of the house — the handcraftmanship on the house alone is remarkable. My dad was a frame carpenter, so I noticed everything like that. It was amazing for me to stand at the staircase of the house when we were shooting the video and be surrounded by that.” – Frank Killian – Love The Hate.

Queensrÿche film mini movie Queensrÿche: Ad Lucem

Legendary Seattle rockers, Queensrÿche recently filmed a ‘mini movie’ with the tracks, “Spore” “Midnight Lullaby” “A World Without” and “X2” providing the score to a 10-plus minute story, dubbedQueensrÿche: Ad Lucem. The film was created by Veva Entertainment Co. with director Daniel Andres Gomez Bagby and producer Marco De Molina and was filmed last month on location at Central City Stages in Los Angeles. Todd La Torre, vocalist for Queensrÿche has issued the following statement:

“We decided to take a different approach with this video, which is comprised of four pieces of music from our latest self-titled release, Queensrÿche.  It’s a conceptual mini-movie music video that invites the audience to scratch beneath the surface a bit, rather than the usual “chewed food” that so many are used to being fed.  We really wanted to deviate from a performance type of video so the music and story-line could be the main focus.”

La Torre also adds, “The overall theme of the song Spore is one that deals with personal demons, relationship struggles, career pressures, personal/professional morals and ethical dilemmas.  These are issues we all face on some level and the video touches upon them all.  Midnight Lullaby/A World Without deals with the loss of a mother during childbirth, leaving a father as a single parent and struggling to move forward through the turmoil. X2, though it opens up our album, provides for a nice outro to it all. The end result is a roller coaster of emotion in an effort to find a healthy resolve. Given our history, we feel that this multifaceted conceptual video, along with a great cast of actors to suit, will really resonate with our fans.”

Queensrÿche first burst onto the music scene in 1982 with the release of their self-titled 4 song EP Queensrÿche. They very quickly gained international recognition and performed to sold out audiences around the world. With the follow up first full-length album “The Warning” in 1984, and the ground breaking 1986 release of “Rage For Order”, Queensrÿche continued to prove their worldwide dominance as one of the most respected and creative bands of the 80’s. In 1988 the band turned out yet another monumental album “Operation: Mindcrime”, which would go on to become one of the TOP 10 best-selling concepts records of all time, and set the stage for continued sold out performances around the world. With the release of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful “Empire” in 1991, the band earned multiple Grammy Award nominations and won the MTV “viewer’s choice” award for the #1 chart topping hit “Silent Lucidity”. During the next ten years, the band continued to release albums and tour the world to sold-out audiences. Queensrÿche has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and have continued to break new ground and push their creative process.

GEOFF TATE’s New Album KINGS & THIEVES is Out Now

KINGS & THIEVES, the inspiring new album from legendary Queensrÿche vocalist GEOFF TATE, is available today via InsideOut Music. After selling over 20 million albums, receiving four Grammy nominations, and releasing fourteen studio albums, TATE has become one of the most respected vocalists of his time. KINGS & THIEVES will be TATE’s second solo album and first solo effort in over a decade. Fans and press alike have fallen in love with GEOFF TATE’s expertly crafted lyrics, unique progressive style and breathtaking vocals. KINGS & THIEVES once again shows why TATE is one of the most influential forces in mainstream rock and metal.

What others are saying about Kings and Thieves:

“It’s an impressive, intense, and infectious rock record that’s as visceral as it is vulnerable. Those legendary pipes of his also resound with heavenly angst. This is Tate at his rawest and most real. In other words, it’s a new classic…” – ArtistDirect.com

“An amalgam of classic heavy riffing, elements of modern metal and a great-sounding production that fans of heavy rock ought to find very satisfying.” – UltimateClassicRock.com

“Kings & Thieves is as classy as it is sharp and pointed. Queensrÿche fans should love it – dare I say, as much as some Queensrÿche material.” – PowerlineMag.com

If you did not see it before check out our pix and interview with Geoff in Pittsburgh here!

Kings and Thieves: The Geoff Tate Interview 10.24.12

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Being an unabashed Queensryche fan since the 80’s, I have had the pleasure of seeing them perform in this city many times. The first time I caught ‘The Rhyce’ was at Mancini’s (now Club Erotica) in McKees Rocks. It did not take too many years for them to play the Civic Arena and First Pavilion with their monster hit of ‘Operation Mindcrime’ and the mega hit of ‘Empire’ when you could not go anywhere without hearing ‘Silent Lucidity’ or ‘Jet City Woman’. If you would have told me then that one day Geoff Tate would call me to firm up a time for an interview, I would have said you were dreaming. Twenty some odd years later and just that happened…

Geoff is overly gracious, intelligent, thoughtful, and humble. The interview was really insightful to where Geoff is at now, where he has been, and where he is going. His performance that evening was spot on in only the way a legend of a singer should be. On his solo tour for Kings and Thieves, Geoff sort of carries on where his last solo effort leaves off with a wide berth of musical genres. Do not expect a carbon copy of the signature prog-metal sound that Queensrhyce was so known for producing. This is a sound that is rawer, more experimental, and more of where Tate is at right now. But do not fret if that does not sound like your cup of tea, Geoff promises to be back with an All Star Queensryche with ex-members of Ratt, Megadeth, and Quiet Riot.

Geoff Tate (founding member of Queensryche) To Perform in Pittsburgh 10/24/12 Rex Theater

There has been a ton of buzz and controversy as of late surrounding the implosion of Queensryche and the departure of lead singer and founding member, Geoff Tate. Not one to sit around, Geoff is due to release his new solo effort next month and will be touring to support. Tate will land in Pittsburgh on October 24 at the highly cool Southside Rex Theater. One of the most legendary and amazing voices of rock history, Geoff is an amazing performer and will certainly put on one hell of a show. It will be great to see him in such a close and personal atmosphere and Pittsburgh Music Mag will be there for the show and to interview Geoff. We will also be reviewing his new record before the release date and the show. Below is a recent press release regarding Geoff’s new effort Kings and Thieves:

The world has changed a lot in the decade since Geoff Tate’s self-titled solo debut in 2002, and nowhere is that more evident than on Kings & Thieves. Only the second solo album of a legendary career that spans four decades, the album is a journey into the mind of one of rock’s most dynamic vocalists – and like every good journey, there is plenty to make us take notice along the way.

“I wanted to rock,” says the Queensryche frontman quite pointedly about his debut album for InsideOut Music. “My first solo album was more introspective, and the goal was to show my influences that weren’t as obvious on Operation: Mindcrime. Having done that, I didn’t feel l needed to do it again – my goal with this record was to make a solid rock album. I wanted it to be an album that I could play live that would be both satisfying and fun, because, as a singer, you need to create a show that has a lot of dynamics to it and takes people on a ride. I’m always thinking about the show, and there need to be peaks and valleys, not just a steady line.”

Those peaks and valleys are plentiful on Kings & Thieves, “Take A Bullet” unfurling like a rifle shot of retribution, “In The Dirt” embracing the blues with a sexy swagger that rocks as hard as it rolls, and “Evil” escalating with a haunting urgency that pleas with us all to save our souls as Tate’s trademark lyrical twists transport us through the 11-tracks. Starting with the opening narrative of “She Slipped Away” – part two of a trilogy that started with the Queensryche track “Drive” – the album mutates from interpersonal and sexually brazen, to political and socially conscious. From hard and heavy to sexy and sultry, it’s everything fans have come to expect from the frontman, delivered with a heightened sense of purpose.

“Like it always is, the inspiration is life,” says Tate. “You write about what interests you, what affects you, and incidents that come up that you have to deal with… It’s how we put that in a new, interesting package that’s the trick.” While there are moments that leave us exploring new depths and ideas – from the storied turn in the opening track, to the burning passion of “Say U Luv It” – there is also a lot of Tate’s familiar insight throughout Kings & Thieves.

With America in the midst of one of the most expensive presidential elections in the country’s history, “Dark Money” hits particularly hard, and also gave the album its name (“Kings & Thieves” was the track’s working title). “I think, generally, people in the United States – and all over the world – are getting upset with how big the class difference is between the rich and the rest of us. It’s such a drastic difference – people are counting their pennies and losing their homes, while others are multi-millionaires and giving their money to political action groups. I’m not really a political person, but I am interested in social commentary and what happens to people because of politics, and ‘Dark Money’ is about how things that are important to everyday people, politicians look to as little more than pawns in a chess game.”

There’s a light piercing through the dark, and it manifests itself in the infectious rocker “These Glory Days.” “It’s got a gospel feel to it, and a chord progression that inspires hope. I think the time we live in now is fascinating, to watch things unfold and see how information technology has advanced so quickly, opinions form, and those opinions create change – it doesn’t take as long for an idea to gestate, and that’s fantastic. That’s making us, as a race of people, move in a direction a lot different than our parents and grandparents. It’s a fascinating time, and these are glorious days that we have the ability and power to shape.”

“Praise the God of all, drink the wine, and let the world be the world…” sings Tate in “These Glory Days,” lifting the line from an age-old French proverb and sharing a sentiment that binds the album. There is a lot to the world that we can’t change, and there is a lot that we can – the magic is in finding our place, interpreting our role, and letting the world be the world… with music as the soundtrack.

“I wanted the record to have a groove to it, a feeling that it connects with you physically, rather than just connecting with your logic or analytical thinking. I wanted it to be a record that you feel and makes you want to move. I wanted to do something with my name on it, something that is a reflection of just me. The beauty of a solo album is that there aren’t any expectations,” sums Geoff Tate of Kings & Thieves. “A solo album can be its own thing and doesn’t have to live up to some success you had 30 years ago, and that can be free and liberating.”
