In just days, Relapse Records will have officially infiltrated the populace with Nero In Metastasi — the label LP debut from longtime Italian hardcore/grind kings, CRIPPLE BASTARDS — the record set for release in Germany/Benelux February 14th, in the UK February 17th and in North America onFebruary 18th. The newest in an exceedingly lengthy line of decimating full-length, mini and split releases in the band’s two-and-a-half decades in existence thus far, Nero In Metastasi is their third LP recorded under the watch of producer Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden (Arch Enemy, At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity), and bears some of the most straightforward, metallic attacks the band has ever dispatched.
Noisey is now playing CRIPPLE BASTARDS‘ entire new blasterpiece ahead of street date, the gritty text accompanying the stream issuing, “…Nero in Metastasi, is eighteen new tracks that say ‘fuck you’ in the best way they know how, with speed, vitriol and unending hatred.”
What more conviction do you need? Deploy and destroy RIGHT HERE.
Additional preliminary responses from media outlets have been fully supportive of CRIPPLE BASTARDS‘ decisive savagery, with Exclaim! Magazine reporting, “At this stage in their career they could (and should) become university professors and teach a course on musical brutality. This is a highly focused, ruthless and savage grind record that seamlessly includes elements of death metal, punk and hardcore, using each of these tools better than many artists who focus solely on those styles.” Punk/grind movement vets Disposable Underground stated of the record, “Nero In Metastasi features signature CRIPPLE BASTARDS start-stop songs and blast beats and enraged vocals. Some of the guitar riffs are reminiscent of thrash/crossover bands of the past, which makes sense since the band has been doing this for a very long time-and knows what it’s doing,” and extreme music webzine Last Rites praised the album as one of the top contemporary releases of the genre, with, “This is thirty-five minutes of absolutely head-bashing modern grinding, delivered with vicious sincerity by a band at the top of its game.. Grinders, take note – these Bastards keep getting better, and here, they’re at their best. 2014’s first grindmonster is upon us.”
CRIPPLE BASTARDS have been updating their tour schedule for the first half of 2014 in conjunction with the release of Nero In Metastasi, with a full tour of Japan and Australia including performances atObscene Extreme Asia and Obscene Extreme Australia approaching, followed by a US tour based around their set at Maryland Deathfest confirmed for May. More live actions will be announced in the coming weeks.

“…progressive death metal that mixes shiny technical skills with dank atmospherics.” — Pitchfork
Cleveland, Ohio’s Ringworm have had quite a career. With a huge number of lineup changes since the band’s inception in 1991, it’s clear that they’ve had multiple opportunities to shift their fist-to-face sound over time. After more than 20 years running riot on tour, Ringworm celebrate another move to the road with a special vinyl recording, Bleed. It’s short and doesn’t do anything remotely new for the band, but fans who grew to love Ringworm will find all of their favorite features brought to their record player once again.
Bleed is a brief three song vinyl record, with each track demonstrating the band’s penchant for blistering speed and metal-influenced intensity. With a clear love of the chaotic thrash metal genre and the adrenaline-drenched hardcore genre, Ringworm’s special promo LP does capture the band’s spirit well. Despite a punk aesthetic, hearing such powerful guitar lines from guitarists Matt Sorg and John Comprix is exceptional. The guys compliment the intensity well, with their solo techniques and sounds influenced straight from the thrash metal high-rises like Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer. In combination with a rapid-fire machine gun percussion from drummer Danny Zink, Ringworm pick the best parts from 80’s thrash, while keeping a hardcore energy alive at all time.
However, these three songs don’t speak volumes. As intense and furious as these three songs are, they are clear examples of a band sticking to their guns. Across the three tracks, there’s nary a moment where the band changes things up and shifts into a new gear. It’s fast and heavy, but no amount of speed and distorted weight can prevent these three tracks from blending together into a collection of extreme punk metal cacophony. It’s crazy, but insanity can’t carry Bleed out of its already established forte.
Ringworm’s trump card on Bleed is a cover of punk band Discharge’s “The Nightmare Continues.” While the guys in Ringworm do preserve that sense of anarchic, rambunctious fervor, their extreme hardcore sound doesn’t click in tune with Discharge’s original punk track. The energy is misplaced; the entire song blends in with the other two tracks on Bleed, making the cover a missed opportunity, both to recapture the spirit of Discharge’s original and to revamp the performance in Ringworm’s own light.
Ringworm do a good job of mixing thrash metal with its (debatable) roots of punk sounds, while adding some extreme musicianship as well. If you’re a fan of Ringworm’s extensive discography, Bleed will get your attention during the brief time it lasts. If you’re looking for a starting point for Ringworm, however, you won’t find a good one in Bleed. With such few surprises and a sound that never evolves or grows in appeal over time, it’s definitely not an essential disc, even for the most flexible metal maven.

Philadelphia-based Nothing are proud to announce their signing to Relapse Records via whom the band will release their debut LP, Guilty Of Everything, in 2014. To celebrate the signing and their current tour with Whirr, Nothing is pleased to share the single “Dig”. Please scroll down to view their upcoming tour dates. Speaking on their signing to Relapse Records, the band says “We are very excited to work with Relapse, will be rad to see our music reach a much wider audience.”
Nothing was formed in 2011 by Domenic Palermo. Previously Palermo was the brains behind the early 2000’s hardcore/punk act Horror Show. in 2002 Horror Show was put on hold after Palermo was incarcerated for a stabbing that eventually led to a 2 year prison sentence. Upon his return Palermo would take a lengthy hiatus from music. In 2011 Palermo released a demo tape titled “Poshlost” under the moniker Nothing.
After several attempts at constructing a solid lineup for the band Palermo met Brandon Setta. Setta would bring a lush, rich soundscape and a fresh approach to Palermo’s vision for Nothing. Setta and Palermo would handle the writing for the next release, a very rare 12″ EP that was released on Japanese boutique label Big Love Records called Suns And Lovers(A play off of the D.H. Lawernce book). It was limited to 300 copies and the bands share was donated back to the label for a Tsunami Relief Charity. The next release, Downward Years To Come was a 5 song EP and was recorded at the Rubber Tracks Studio in Brooklyn with Kyle “Slick” Johnson. The record was released by Baltimore Label A389 Records in November 2012. Written by Palermo and Setta, the concept behind Downward Years To Come was a dedication to several different poets who had taken their own lives. Head to Nothing’s bandcamp page here to stream or purchase Downward Years To Come and Suns And Lovers. Setta and Palermo would again head into the studio, this time with Jeff Zeigler at Uniform Recordings to write their debut LP, Guilty Of Everything and sign with Relapse Records.

Chapel Hill, NC’s experimental artisan Horseback has announced a singles and rarities collection entitled A Plague of Knowing. This limited edition 3-Disc collection compiles a half decade’s worth of compilation, vinyl only, demos, live recordings and previously unreleased Horseback material from 2007-2012. The album will see a 3CD/Digital release via Relapse Records on August 20th in North America (August 19th UK/World and August 16th Benelux/Germany).
The first pressing of A Plague of Knowing is strictly limited to 2000 copies and housed in a beautiful, deluxe three disc digi-wallet together with a Horseback sticker. Pre-Orders are currently available via Relapse Mailorder here while a trailer for the album can be viewed here.
Though each of Horseback’s full-lengths has been carefully sculpted into a semblance of unity, the process is never really pure. Where there is purity, there is lack: a poverty of the whole, a void of meaning. The mangled forms on display in this collection are stitches in a larger fabric, however unsightly they may seem. There is no hidden knowledge, only the viral horror of understanding. The flags read ‘Revelation, if it kills us; give us a plague of knowing.'”
A Plague of Knowing Tracklisting:
Savage, crunching, galloping guitars and unforgiving powerhouse drumming underlay a hellish sludge-fest of an upcoming debut record by Portland, Oregon metal band Lord Dying. The album is entitled, “Summon the Faithless,” and will be released on Relapse Records July 9th, 2013. Prepare to have your brain blasted into oblivion. Old progressive proto-metal like Black Sabbath meets the tighter, meaner thrash and death metal of latter years in a blend that’s like God’s own jackhammer.
These guys do not fool around with their conjuring up of intriguing song titles. These include: “Perverse Osmosis,” “Descend into External,” and my personal favorite, “What is Not…Is.” Clearly, though new to the professional recording business, Lord Dying is not a band of slouches in any respect, neither as musicians or song title philosophers. At first the song names made me laugh, then they got me thinking, and now I’m laughing again… but it is a laughter of acceptance, laughter like a horseman of the apocalypse riding on a sky-covering wave of fire from heaven, mace in hand, ready to show no mercy to the cowering world below.
Yes, biblical end-of-days are called to mind upon listening to “Summon the Faithless.” Also maybe knight or viking battles, or a tyrannosaurus stampede. You catch my colossal drift. Definitely not an album for the hungover or sleepy.
In spite of their mammoth, bone crunching sound, Lord Dying isn’t afraid of releasing photos of themselves standing around a Foosball table in a tiny, somewhat cluttered backyard. I respect that. Also, the upcoming album cover is pretty righteous: that wrinkly, saber-tongued skeleton demon with the hourglass gives Iron Maiden’s Eddie a run for his money in the intimidation department. I would love to see a fight between the two. I feel like Eddie would have more physical strength but the Lord Dying demon could cast some evil spell and end the bout whenever he pleased.
The album is as cold-blooded and heavy as the skull-moon on its cover. It is, to quote the band, straight from his majesty Dying’s mouth, “…an offering of pummeling riffs and all things metal…so crack a brew, bang your head and enjoy.” At the very end of the record, “What is Not…Is” disintegrates into a seemingly endless pit of noise. It’s like you’re falling into hell but it’s actually enjoyable, because somehow you’ve lucked out and been given a set of fireproof scales and wings and demon officer status, so although you’re hurtling down past jagged rock walls and into a pit of flames, it’s exactly where you want to be going.
REVOCATION have confirmed an August 6th release date for their new self-titled album via Relapse Records. This is their 4th full-length release and the first featuring new bassist Brett Bamberger. Additionally the clip features 10 seconds of new REVOCATION music. The second video in the series focusing on the guitar and bass tracking and features 10 seconds of brand new REVOCATION material. First Week Chart Numbers Revealed
If you’ve yet to truly investigate HOWL’s Bloodlines cover art, you’re missing out. A stunning, goretorn blood feast of skulls, bones, impalements, hungry wolves, plotting vultures, nooses and sexy side boob,Bloodlines was created by Ryan Begley (Pelican, Kvlertak, All Pigs Must Die, Cave In, etc.) and visually captures the metallic, lead-footed brutality of the music contained within.
Comments Begley of his work: “I was asked last year to illustrate my third record cover for Providence-based metal band HOWL. I’m really stoked that they’ve stuck with me since their first EP. They’re really good guys and I love doing work for them. Early on we batted around record title ideas and once Bloodlines was introduced as a possible title, the concept came together pretty easily. All the visuals were inspired by lyrical content and both the band and I wanted to have an image with a lot of elements that would take time for the viewer to soak in. I tried to have all the characters and elements interacting and overlapping as much as possible. The blood was one of the more difficult but fun elements to draw for the cover. Figuring out how it would flow and move throughout the frame and around the characters took a while to sketch out. The band wanted a bright and vibrant cover and I thought it would translate best if we kept the colors in the same family. Once I settled on a specific red for the blood the rest of the palette was pulled from that. Thank you HOWL and Relapse.”
Adds the band in a collective statement: “We are incredibly excited to feature Ryan Begley’s art for the new album. The inspiration for his work was drawn directly from our album’s music and lyrics, and he did a tremendous job capturing the brutality of Bloodlines.”
Check out some rough and final pencil sketches of the cover as well as the mammoth gatefold layout, hosted by No Clean Singing at THIS LOCATION, where you’ll also find the band’s latest video for “Demonic.”
In related news Bloodlines entered the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at #50 upon its first week of release! In addition, the record landed at #57 on the Billboard Hard Music Chart and #173 on Billboard’s Indie Music Chart.
HOWL’s Bloodlines douses listener with 40 relentless minutes of maniacal dirge and continues to reap critical accolades from fans and critics alike for its thunderous riffing and primal urgency. Dubbed, “deliciously vicious” by MetalSucks, Bloodlines was recorded at the infamous Planet Z Studio in Hadley, Massachusetts with Chris “Zeuss” Harris (Soulfly, Crowbar, Municipal Waste, 3 Inches Of Blood et al) and is currently streaming in its entirety at the band’s official BandCamp page HERE. Order your copy ofBloodlines HERE and stay tuned for Summer tour dates to be announced shortly!
“… the type of galloping, growling, grot-filled effort you expect from a Motörhead shirt wearing metal band.” – Decibel
“HOWL plays with a power and energy that is hard not to admire, with influences that go beyond a single sub genre; to simply label HOWL as pure doom is to potentially limit their appeal. I’ve no doubt if you’re a fan of High On Fire or Electric Wizard, this would be an excellent addition to your library. That said their sound should equally have the heads of Iron Maiden fans and corpse painted true metal warriors banging alike.” – Ave Noctum
“…if you like imp shrieking, wah-imbued stunt guitar, sludge chugs, and lyrics about demons, Bloodlines just might be up your alley.” – Mxdwn
“…a fantastic way to spend an afternoon waxing philosophic or a night getting beaten to death by a group of angry Rhode Islanders…” – Dead Rhetoric
“Bloodlines features enough powerful riffs and angry attitude to sate the mainstream, while the underground will dig the overall feeling of doom and hatred. Did I mention the utterly stellar songwriting?” — Ghost Cult
“…the equivalent of being punched repeatedly in the gut with brass knuckles and then pushed down the mouth of an active volcano.” – American Aftermath
“If [debut album] Full of Hell was a tsunami, this album is a sniper attack.” – Alternative Control
It’s been nearly four years since the last MAMMOTH GRINDER full lengthExtinction Of Humanity was released via Relapse Records (CD) and Cyclopean Records (LP). That album showcased the band’s direction into a distinctly death metal permutation, full of aggression and punk rawness. The band continued in this spirit on 2011’s split LP with fellow Austin, Texas-based Hatred Surge. Now in 2013, after much anticipation,MAMMOTH GRINDER has found a home on 20 Buck Spin for the release of their wildly destructive third full length album Underworlds.
Underworlds marks a peak at which MAMMOTH GRINDER have sharpened and perfected their sound into a seething grind/death/thrash maelstrom of intense degree; unrelenting in its concentrated raw precision and focused power, Underworlds careens violently through ten tracks with effortless versatility and the fixated songcraft expected of a band on their third record. Tracks like “Wraparound Eyes” with its Unleashed style mid-section or the short sharp shock of “Paragon Pusher” illustrate MAMMOTH GRINDER’s mastery over multiple variations of metal to assemble their own sound. Fans of Entombed, Pig Destroyer, Municipal Waste, Discharge, Napalm Death and Iron Lung will beat themselves into submission for missing out on this album, so do yourself a favor, and don’t miss out on it…
MAMMOTH GRINDER is a live band and that is where the songs on Underworlds will expose their most virulent strain. Additionally the album is adorned with artwork by the legendary Joe Petagno whose work has graced albums from artists like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin to Motörhead and Marduk.
20 Buck Spin will expose the damaging Underworlds on LP, CD and digital worldwide on July 23rd, and MAMMOTH GRINDER shall tour extensively upon the album’s release. In the meantime the band will play out regionally, providing support for the May 10th appearance of this year’s Decibel Magazine Tour featuring Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death and Immolation as it hits Houston, Texas, and a badass spot alongside Magic Circle, Iron Lung, Cruciamentum, Tragedy and the almighty Bolt Thrower at this year’s Chaos In Tejas in MG’s hometown of Austin on Friday, May 31st.

Fresh on the heels of the release of their critically acclaimed fifth album Book Burner, The undisputed kings of grind PIG DESTROYER have re-signed with their long time record label home Relapse Records.
The band commented on the re-signing with Relapse:
“Super excited to be a part of the extraordinary Relapse Records again! A song comes to mind in the melody of the “Team America” jingle. “Relapse, FUCK YEAH! Once again, signing a muthafuckin contract!”
– Adam Jarvis
“Relapse has been a great home for both ANb and PIG DESTROYER since the very early days. We’re not an easy band to deal with but Relapse has been patient, enthusiastic, and accommodating to our headache-inducing schedules, our strict adherence to not touring or behaving like a normal band, and just generally being pains-in-the-asses. We wouldn’t trade that for anything.”
– Scott Hull
“I don’t always sign contracts with record labels, but when I do, I choose Relapse.”
