LOCKJAW Release Official Music Video for “Living in My Head”

Fort Worth, TX based, heavy rock / metal band LOCKJAW is back with the official music video for their newest single, “Living in My Head”. Produced by Chris Collier (KornKMX) and the video directed by Jeremy Peterson, “Living in My Head” premiered on popular, taste-making YouTube channel Space Untravel!

‘Living in My Head’ was a song we felt had to be released early on this album because it really hits home with what the world is going through now. We felt we could connect with fans, and let them know, we are with you. We are all struggling together. We feel the pressure of this world, with the pandemic and uncertainty, it really causes stress, anxiety, mental health issues all around. I don’t think anyone is immune to it. We are really proud of the final product and are glad to send our brand of heavy music into the world. We hope everyone enjoys it as much as we do!” – LOCKJAW

Lockjaw is a band based in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. The group recently came out with a brand new release announcement for their upcoming single: Silence The Fear. This is going to be the first of many tracks, which the group is planning on releasing throughout the year. This particular song feels like a compelling new chapter for the band, highlighting its commitment to creating music that blurs the lines between a wide range of influences. From the depth and energy of alternative rock down the impactful edge of heavy metal, there are no rules. The group has a rather long history, fueled by the friendship of the band members, who got together to form this band while in high school in the late 90s. The music scene was quite different back then, but just like today, Lockjaw was never interested in chasing trends. These talented musicians had the vision to make their own music and truly give it their all. Lockjaw started making music in 1998, and it didn’t take long for the group to be able to record and release a handful of EPs throughout the local scene. The band’s music earned a solid reputation, and Lockjaw soon grew to the ranks of excellent local bands, on stage and in the studio.

The group is on the verge of making their return with some brand new music, as they are gearing up to release some exciting new material. Lockjaw’s most recent studio single is titled “Silence The Fear,” and it is going to be available on August 6th, 2021. On the occasion of this and other recordings, The band hit the studio with famed producer Chris Collier, already well-known for his work with seminal bands such as Korn, as well as Lynch MobProng, and KMX, only to mention a few. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that these songs depict the band at its best. Instead of releasing a whole record at once, Lockjaw is set to be releasing a handful of singles throughout the years, allowing their releases to seamlessly spread over time and giving the audience a nice constant stream of content. The band’s upcoming music is ultimately a perfect example of the band’s attitude and charismatic approach to songwriting and performance, going for an immediate and earthy sound that favors the human connection between the musicians, rather than hiding their work under an excessive layer of studio trickery. If you are a fan of artists such as MetallicaLamb Of GodAmon AmarthOpethMachineHead, and Slipknot, this one is definitely going to be right up your alley. Production-wise, the band’s new music is just as exciting and crisp as you might expect from such high standards of recording and production. For instance, “Silence The Fear’s” mix is balanced and very detail-oriented, making for a lively, edgy, and stark sonic approach. In other words, there are many subtle nuances in this release, which really add to the richness of the track when summed up together. At first glance, you’ll notice the roaring walls of guitar and the energetic rhythm section, but if you dive deeper, there is a lot more to uncover. The dynamic spectrum of the song is also very balanced, with a tight yet deep low end that really growls, holding it all together while adding some aggressive edge to the sound.

Find out more about Lockjaw, and do not miss out on the band’s upcoming music, which is going to be available throughout the web’s premier digital streaming platforms.

It’s a heavy hitter with some melodic edge to it. Lyrically, it is about giving oneself time to think about the consequences of their actions, both good and bad. This one has a lot of meaning to the members of the band and if anyone else can relate and connect to it, we’ve done our job.”

LAMB OF GOD Partners with Specticast for Worldwide Distribution of “As The Palaces Burn” Feature Film

LAMB OF GOD is pleased to announce that they have entered in to a worldwide distribution deal with Specticast (Led Zeppelin Celebration Day, Paul McCartney Rock Show) for their Don Argott (Last Days Here, Art of the Steal, School of Rock) directed feature film “As The Palaces Burn”. Filming for the feature began in 2012 and concluded in March of 2013.

“As The Palaces Burn”, not to be confused with the making-of documentary packaged with the recent re-release of the 2003 LAMB OF GOD album of the same name, was conceived to be a documentary focused on the power of music and its impact on cultures around the world and its ability to bring together people of all nationalities regardless of religious or political differences. After a worldwide casting call, filming took place in Colombia, Venezuela, Israel, India, and the United States. As filming reached its conclusion, the documentary was forced to take a major turn when the band’s lead singer, Randy Blythe, was arrested in the Czech Republic and charged with the murder of a fan in June 2012. Granted unique access to Blythe’s continuing saga, Argott’s filming covered Blythe’s 38 day imprisonment in Prague, his release and the band’s return to live performances, and finally Blythe’s trial for murder in Prague in February 2013.

“As The Palaces Burn” will debut worldwide on February 27th. Following the film, a 30 minute Q&A with the entire band and director Don Argott will be shown. The Q&A was conducted by VH1 Classics Eddie Trunk and filmed at the final show of the band’s North American tour in support of their most recent release, Resolution.

The trailer for the film can be found at www.asthepalacesburn.com.

Killswitch Engage Disarm Pittsburgh at Stage AE

If it was your first time at a Killswitch Engage show you might think that guitarist Adam Jonathan Dutkiewicz was well, a bit “touched”.  He is a one man force to be reckoned with, but not what one would typically expect at a metal show, a guy who is often described as ‘liking to take the piss out of things’, a man with a sense of humor.   This is a guy who is prone to taking his guitar off to do mid song sprints back and forth the stage for?  I’m not sure, but it was great (see pix below).  In other words, your eyes lock onto him all the time.  From the moment that the Rocky theme song “Survivor” began the set and Dutkiewicz ran out onto the stage screaming and yelling like a teenage girl at a One Direction show, a Killswitch virgin knew this was going to be different than anything they had ever experienced before and…hilarious.

Back with original vocalist Jesse Leach and sounding incredibly powerful and clean at the same time, Killswitch Engage blitzed right into A Bid Farewell from The End of Heartache.  This of course is not the first time Pittsburgh has been treated to KE back with Jesse, many of the same fans witnessed the comeback at  Metal Hammer‘s “Trespass America Festival” at Stage AE as well a few summers back.  But this was an entirely different vibe, and an inside show that was beyond packed and completely sold out.  The extreme metalcore/hardcore continued with highlights such as “The New Awakening” and “Turning Point” from new effort Disarm the Descent,  “Rose of Sharyn” and “The End of Heartache” from The End of Heartache, and “My Last Serenade” and “In The Unblind” from Alive or Just Breathing.

What makes Killswitch special an so endearing to fans seems to be the versatility within their songs and between their material.  But with that, their live show is proof positive that their career has lasted and expanded the way that it has for good reason.  Besides the enigmatic performances of Jesse and Adam, Mike D’Antonio (bass), Joel Stoetzel (guitar), and Justin Foley (drums) never stop moving and playing to the crowd making them feel one with the band and part of the performance.  This was a true double act with Lamb of God and full set to appease the wall to wall packed in audience who was at a fever pitch during the entire bit from start to finish.  Some left scarred, some left shocked, and some left sapped of all energy, but all left bigger fans of Killswitch Engage.

LAMB OF GOD Responds to Malaysia Concert Ban

As widely reported, LAMB OF GOD’s concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia scheduled for September 28th has been cancelled by the government, who refused to issue a permit for the show even though the concert had been on sale and had sold over 1,500 tickets.

LAMB OF GOD’s guitarist Mark Morton has issued the following statement regarding the decision by the Malaysian government. Shows scheduled in New Zealand, Australia, and Thailand will still be performed by the group:

“It is very evident (and a bit frustrating) that the groups, parties and powers that have taken the most offense to our music and lyrics, have themselves only made a passing glance at the content and meanings of those songs. We would invite anyone offended by our music to engage in a discussion regarding the true motivations behind our work, especially before publicly slandering us based on assumptions and shallow misinterpretation.

We sincerely apologize to our amazing fans in Malaysia for the cancellation. Many thanks to all who have spoken out in support of us through this.”

HUNTRESS Wraps Up North American Tour With Danzig Prepares For Global Domination with Lamb of God

HUNTRESS has kicked off yet another year of relentless touring, following the release of their critically acclaimed album Starbound Beast.  After an amazing run on this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, HUNTRESS has just wrapped up their tour with the legendary Glenn Danzig for his 25th Anniversary tour with Misfits guitarist Doyle.

Vocalist Jill Janus had this to say about her time on the road with Glenn Danzig:

“Touring with Danzig has been surreal. As an angsty teenage girl, I used to dream that one day I would duet with Glenn Danzig. Being chosen to tour with him was already mind blowing, but I also had the honor of singing “Skulls” with him in St. Paul, MN! I was watching the show from side stage. Doyle had just played a couple Misfits songs with the band. Then I see Glenn turn and ask if I’d like to join him for a duet! Performing with two of my idols was stellar. This has been a killer experience for HUNTRESS, watching Glenn Danzig nightly from the wings, he has mastered his craft and we’ve learned a lot from him on this short run. He’s also hilarious, his sense of humor and attitude have made our time with him so much more incredible! Hail Danzig!”

After a short break this September, HUNTRESS will be back on the road with heavy metal heavyweights Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, and Testament!  The tour kicks off October 22ndin Toronto, ON, and runs through November 26th in Silver Spring, MD.  It has also been confirmed that Lamb of God will be taking HUNTRESS to Europe and the UK in early 2014.  A complete list of dates can be found below.

HUNTRESS is proud to present their video for the song “Zenith”.  Bloody-Disgusting.com calls it “A Sci-Fi Horror Psychedelic Masterpiece!” The spectacular video was directed by Phil Mucci, whose video for HIGH ON FIRE‘s “Fertile Green” was named best video of 2012 by Revolver. Check out the “Zenith” video HERE.

Starbound Beast, is out now on Napalm Records. The album is available for purchase oniTunesAmazon, and in Best Buy stores in the US.

LAMB OF GOD Partners with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE for North American Tour…Pittsburgh Stage AE Nov. 25

Testament and Huntress to Support

Long-time friends LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have joined forces for what will undoubtedly be one of the essential “can’t miss” tours of the fall of 2013.  The tour launches October 22 in Toronto and canvases much of the U.S and Canada.  The two bands are a dominant live pairing, and will combine for 28 North American shows in total.  Support for all shows except Los Angeles will be provided by thrash legends Testament, with Huntress opening all shows.

LAMB OF GOD will end the North American portion of the Resolution record cycle with this tour.  It will include a coast to coast visit to all major Canadian cities which will be LAMB OF GOD’s first visit to Canada on this cycle other than a festival play in June in Montebello and a show in Toronto in January 2012.  In the last year, both Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament have been certified gold in Canada.  LAMB OF GOD will finish the Resolution cycle completely with a visit to Europe and South Africa in January 2014. Details on that tour will be released late August.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE released their sixth album Disarm the Descent this April, which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200; at No. 1 on Hard Rock Chart; and at No. 1 on the Rock Chart. It marked the first album with frontman Jesse Leach at the vocal helm since 2002’s now-classic Alive or Just Breathing.  The album has been warmly embraced and well-received by both fans and the media, as it has just crossed the 100,000-sold mark in only three months of release.  Having just wrapped a highly successful U.S summer headline tour, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE look to continue their Disarm the Descent record cycle with this fall trek.

Both LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have been wanting to hit the road together for quite some time now and are both excited to finally get the chance.  They have also made sure to keep the ticket prices as low as possible so that all of their fans can come out and have a good time with them on this tour.

LAMB OF GOD Vocalist RANDY BLYTHE Pens Memoir, Signs North American Book Deal with DA CAPO PRESS

Coming Spring 2014

During the next few weeks while Lamb of God is gearing up for several dates overseas in August, vocalist Randy Blythe is busy gearing up for the release of his upcoming memoir. The memoir, which puts emphasis on the past year of his life, is an incredible, harrowing, heartbreaking, and redemptive story told in Blythe’s already well-recognized writing style. It seems that almost every major media outlet has attempted to righteously cover the story of Blythe’s arrest, incarceration, trial, and acquittal for manslaughter in the Czech Republic last year, but now, the man at the center of it all unveils the truths of the ordeal, personally detailing every aspect in his own words. No ghost-writers, no co-authors, just Randy Blythe, himself.

Randy Blythe is pleased to announce that the rights to this currently untitled memoir, currently slated to hit stores in the spring of 2014, have been sold to Executive Editor Ben Schafer at Da Capo Press by Marc Gerald at The Agency Group. Da Capo Press is a member of American publishing company the Perseus Books Group. Da Capo Press is an excellent home for Blythe’s memoir, as they are already recognized internationally as the publishers of several other memoirs by heavy metal greats likeTony IommiCorey TaylorRex Brown, and Al Jourgensen.

“While I’ve dreamed of being a published author almost since I began to read, I never imagined my first book would center around such a sad topic. Sometimes though, life unexpectedly provides you a story that needs to be told,” states Blythe. “I believe this one does (for several different reasons, not just for the benefit of myself), so I will tell it with the respect and dignity all involved deserve. This will be a good read, I promise you, and I hope some good comes of it.”

“I knew that Randy was a master vocalist and lyricist but it turns out he is a vivid and visceral prose writer as well,” adds Da Capo Press Executive Editor Ben Schafer. “Regarding his arrest and trial in the Czech Republic, Randy handled a frightening and heartbreaking situation with courage, grace, and humility, and we at Da Capo Press are honored to have the opportunity to have a part in telling his story.”

More details are set to be announced soon in regards to Randy Blythe’s memoir. For more information on Da Capo Press, please visit www.dacapopress.com.

International press should note that Random House has purchased the foreign rights to the memoir and will act as publisher in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

LOUNA Releases Astounding New Music Video for ‘Business’, an “Oz” Themed Representation of Religious Oppression and Terrorism

The world we live in continues spiraling down into violence caused in large part to the religious differences and political oppression that exists throughout our planet.  What is not often recognized is that this is a problem not just in America, but all over the world.  Religious zealots from Chechniya took nearly 1000 hostages in 2002 in a theater in Moscow resulting in over a hundred deaths.  In 2004, over 40 people were killed when a terrorist suicide bomber from Chechniya blew up a subway car in Moscow during rush hour.  And now in 2013 terrorists from Chechniya were responsible for the Boston Marathon bombing.   We must remember we are all experiencing these tragedies across the globe.  The imagery of religious and political struggle is not spoon-fed fantasy on the screen, but is instead a horrifying reality that is taking its toll on lives throughout the world.

Louna (1)

Today, Russian rockers LOUNA release their new music video for ‘Business’, to remind fans new and old, that all cultures share in the heartbreak and strife that results when religious intolerance and hatred control the minds and hearts of people.  This honest and thought-provoking new music video points out the misfortunes and dangers of religious and political oppression in our world. The video was originally completed in late March and was slated to be released in mid-April, just prior to the release of their new album Behind a Mask.  Due to the horrible and unspeakable acts committed in Boston at that exact time, it was decided that it was inappropriate to release this video until the present. Now that there has been some measure of resolution and those responsible are in custody, LOUNA and their management believe that the message of this song and video are more appropriate to present.

LOUNA faces religious zealotry issues in their home country on a continual basis.  LOUNA feels Orthodox church has been, and remains, a tyrannical and overreaching institution that is above criticism or reproach and is directly responsible for the loss of freedom of so many people in Russia (most recently their influence and involvement in the incarceration of the members of Pussy Riot).  The United States has experienced yet another shameful, religiously motivated act (Boston Marathon bombing) first hand and has overcome that oppression by standing together and fighting back.  The band empathizes with the tragedy that took the lives of innocent people and wishes to express their deepest condolences for the senseless loss of life that took place in April.  Both Russia and the United States have been the victims of religiously motivated acts of terror, and it is the opinion of LOUNA that it is time for an awakening.  It is time for us to stand together.

The new video for ‘Business’ has been unveiled exclusively by CraveOnline.com and is available for viewing now. ‘Business’ pays homage to several of the greatest films in history, and builds upon the symbolism contained within each of them to deliver a consistent and clear message: the reality perceived by the masses is no closer to the truth than two plus two equaling five.  In doing so, LOUNA created the most epic and expensive music video in the history of Russia was created.  Consisting almost entirely of CGI and filmed at the largest green-screen sound stage in Russia, ‘Business’ is quite simply art.  Directed by young filmmakers Oleg Taravkov and Dmitry Zuev, and written and produced by Travis Leake who also wrote the lyrics to the song ‘Business’, this video represents an artistic vision of a world torn apart by religious hatred and intolerance.

In this video you will see two sides, enslaved by opposing yet equally messaged propaganda.  There are attacks motivated by intolerance, first using stones as in the ancient times, and then progressing throughout the ages as technology developed.  A bomb, a drone strike and finally a suicide bomber.  The result is the mutual destruction of both sides and the death of innocent people caught in the crossfire.

Religion is a serious subject even in our modern and sophisticated world.  Religious conflict shapes and forms the geopolitical realities that all of us, everywhere in the world share.  None of us are untouched by it.  LOUNA does not wish to tell anyone what they should believe–or not believe–but merely to consider that the struggle between these two sides will (in all practical reality) never be decided, because it is impossible to decide.  The wars that are fought and have been fought between Islam and Christianity are older than any of us, or anyone who is alive today.  The killing and bloodshed and hatred and envy and despicable acts that are committed by both sides must end for there to be any hope for peace.  There are no innocent participants in the modern war for the hearts and minds of people.

In a band declaration, LOUNA states, “LOUNA would like to welcome you to our vision of the world.  The message of the song and the video will likely encounter two types of viewers:  those who will embrace it and those who will despise it.  Probably no one will be able to watch it and listen to the song and have no opinion one way or the other.  The message of the song and the video is a sensitive one, and everyone in LOUNA realizes the real possibility of some cultures in the world declaring holy war against us, and others will denounce it as atheist propaganda.  While it is true that we in LOUNA are all atheists, the message of our song and video is nonetheless undeniable and illustrates the chaos and death that result from religious conflict.  Our priorities are people, peace, truth and freedom.  We are demonstrating the truth and saying what so many in the world think but are too afraid to articulate.  We will not be silenced by intimidation or fear.”

LOUNA’s new album, Behind a Mask, was released last week via Red Decade Records and MEG/RED. The album will appeal to fans of a blistering and passionate hard rock sound. North American fans will recognize the album’s clear handiwork— Behind a Mask was mixed by renowned producer/engineer Dan Korneff (Breaking Benjamin, The Pretty Reckless, Papa Roach, My Chemical Romance, Paramore) and mastering duties were handled by the legendary Ted Jensen of Sterling Sound, New York.

NOT GUILTY! Randy Blythe of Lamb of God Finally Gets Justice

From Loudwire.com

Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe was acquitted of manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic when a not guilty verdict was handed down today (March 5). After spending five weeks in a a Czech prison this past summer and standing trial over two sessions this winter, Blythe is a free man.

Czech news agency Blesk.cz reports that the three-judge panel acquitted Randy Blythe today after a trial that lasted four days in February and then resumed for another two days this week. The metal vocalist was detained on suspicion of manslaughter in June 2012 for his alleged involvement in the death of 19-year-old fan Daniel Nosek during a fall from the stage at a 2010 Lamb of God concert.

Prior to the verdict, Blythe addressed the courtroom today, stating, “I know I did not hurt or want to hurt anybody that night. I can understand the pain that the family of Daniel is experiencing. Daniel was a fan of my band. I had no wish to harm him. He was just a boy and I wish he was still here. If ultimately the Czech legal system sentences me to prison, I will do my sentence like a man. I have searched for an answer to this situation, the only one I can find to this tragic and horrible accident.”

According to The Gauntlet, earlier today, the last expert testimony of the trial came from a biomechanics expert who testified that the alleged victim, Daniel Nosek, could not have turned his body 180 degrees if pushed off the stage. The expert also stated that Nosek would have had to have jumped to land beyond the first row of fans.

WTVR reports that after the decision, the State Attorney revealed his attention to appeal the ruling. He has eight days to file his appeal.

This morning, before entering the court, Blythe took to his Instagram account, to post the following message:

It’s a beautiful morning in Prague, & time for me to go to what is (hopefully) my final day in court here- supposedly judgement will be passed today & I will move on with my life in one direction or the other. Which direction that is, I do not know. I could walk free, or conversely go to prison for up to ten years. Such is my life right now, & I must stay in this moment until its resolution. Whatever happens to me, do not feel sorry for me, for I am at peace & refuse to feel sorry for myself. Life happens. Deal with it. Some people cannot understand why I have returned, saying I should not come back here. KNOW THIS, & mark my words well- it would be absolutely intolerable for me to hide from this situation. I am an innocent man, but a family suffers the loss of a son, a fan of my band. That is what this whole thing is truly about, not prison, not money, not politics, not ME- it is about a young man who lost his life at just 19 years of age. He will never come back, & it breaks my heart. I would not be able to sleep at night knowing that I did not behave honorably & try to give his family some answers. That would be disgraceful, and I do not wish to dishonor myself or my family by acting in such a cowardly manner. I was raised to face my problems head on. For me, this is BEING A MAN. I categorically refuse to live in a constant state of guilt & fear. I would rather die. My morality & convictions are not dependent upon unforeseeable circumstance, nor malleable when difficulty arises. So I walk this morning to court with my head held high, no matter what others opinions of me may be. I have to face myself in the mirror, & tomorrow morning, where ever I may wake up, I will be able to do that without regret. This is THE ONLY path to true freedom for me- peace within myself. This is the manner in which I choose to try my best to live my life, & I hope you all do the same- do your best to do what is right, no matter how difficult it may be. I promise you, this will bring you peace. I thank you all for your support, I wish you all a good day, & to quote one of my favorite movies: STRENGTH AND HONOR.

Then, after the not guilty verdict, the Lamb of God frontman posted the following message accompanied by the photo below:

I have been found not guilty & acquitted of all charges against me. I am a free man. This photo was taken by my friend @aceyslade- it says it all. Please remember the family of Daniel Nosek in your thoughts & prayers in this difficult time. I only wish for them peace. Thank you for your support- Randy

LAMB OF GOD’s CHRIS ADLER Announces Exclusive North American Endorsement and Distribution Deal with VRUK Corporation

LAMB OF GOD’s CHRIS ADLER is pleased to announce his new, exclusive North American endorsement and distribution deal with VRUK Corporation, specifically in conjunction with the CHRIS ADLER Signature VRUK DrumMaster Heel Plate—a vital tool for drummers looking to increase endurance and speed that CHRIS ADLER himself will be distributing exclusively throughout North America.

The CHRIS ADLER Signature VRUK DrumMaster Heel Plate acts as an attachment to your current pedal setup providing heel support, rebound acceleration and control, the key factor of any drum technique. Today, CHRIS ADLER released a brand new video that shows what the VRUK DrumMaster Heel Plate is and how it works! Head to this location to view the video (click “watch video” link), read testimonials, grab coupon codes and more!

“In every aspect of my life, my intention is to seek out the very best. When it comes to drumming, I insist on it. I won’t use free because it’s free. I’ll overpay for the tools that allow me to exceed my own expectations,” says CHRIS ADLER. “When writing the Wrath album I wore ankle weights to increase my kick drum endurance and speed. One day after a long rehearsal, I took them off and one rested under my heel. I immediately noticed that securing and resting my ankle and heel while still playing heel-up allowed much more control over each stroke. I took the ankle weights on my US and European clinic appearances and shared what I had found. I used the ankle weights under my heels every night on the following two year world tour. Fast forward to the spring of 2012 and I began R&D on creating a device that could attach to my pedal and provide consistent support and control. Mr. Vruk had beaten me to it and we were immediately in touch. The VRUK design allows for secure attachment to any pedal and grip and heel support system far greater than my homemade designs. I recently used them at the US festivals that the band just played and not only did they perform well, I performed better. With my heel and ankle able to rest between strokes, my endurance and speed have noticeably improved. This product exceeds my expectations and helps me do what I love doing.”

For more information on the CHRIS ADLER Signature VRUK DrumMaster Heel Plate and CHRIS ADLER’s new endorsement and distribution deal, visit www.vrukpedal.com. To purchase or reserve your heel plate, visit www.chris-adler.com/onlineshop/ or www.vrukpedal.com/store.html.

Interview with Bob Meadows of A Life Once Lost (In Pittsburgh at Garfield Art Works 12/14)

A LIFE ONCE LOST roars into Pittsburgh at the Garfield Art Works next Friday, December 14 with Revocation and Ken Mode. Bob Meadows, lead vocals, took some time to speak to Pittsburgh Music Magazine about the frustrations of the music business, playing Pittsburgh, taking and giving vocal lessons, their new release “Ecstatic Trance”, and the inspiration for the lyrics behind “Madness is God”, check it out by listening here…

A LIFE ONCE LOST has existed on the forward edge of modern metal, where progression and innovation collide with tradition, since its inception. From day one, the path the ALOL have blazed has not only been defiant but also their own.
A LIFE ONCE LOST was formed in ’99 in the Philadelphia suburbs by Doug Sabolick (guitars) and Bob Meadows (vocals). The nascent band immediately forged a noisy, high-impact wall of sound combining dissonant, modern aggression with the hallmarks of traditional metal. Almost as soon as ALOL had songs, the band started cutting their teeth in the Philly-area DIY circuit playing alongside their peers in Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Lamb of God, God Forbid, and more.
Early releases followed on Deathwish, Inc. and Robotic Empire, and ramped up to 03’s punishing ‘A Great Artist’, their first proper full-length. ‘A Great Artist’ saw them take hold of their dark, rhythmic sound and took A LIFE ONCE LOST from a Northeast favorite to a true national band. It was the catalyst that enabled them to get signed to Ferret Records and to then embark on their first national tour(s) alongside Between the Buried & Me among others.
Then ALOL released its’ sophomore album, the more refined ‘Hunter’, in ‘05 and moved to the forefront of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. The band conquered America for the next 2 years touring as part of Ozzfest 2006, as well as direct support tours alongside Lamb of God, Clutch, Opeth, Strapping Young Lad, As I Lay Dying, Every Time I Die, High on Fire and more.
Their 3rd album ‘Iron Gag’, released in ’07, saw significant critical acclaim. That album had ALOL introducing traditional rock grooves and a more confident swagger into their already-explosive sound. The ensuing ‘Iron Gag’ tour saw the band crisscross North America and Europe, from Alaska to Mexico and London to Moscow respectively, once again alongside High on Fire; The Dillinger Escape Plan + new tour mates, Suicide Silence, and Job for a Cowboy.

At the end of the ‘Iron Gag’ World Tour in ‘09, they begin practicing again only to find fractures in the band. After a year plus of writing, Sabolick and Meadows were faced with their most difficult decisions yet. In order to realize their vision for the next evolution of A LIFE ONCE LOST, they needed to scrap almost all of the new material; cut ties with the other members, and start again on their own.

ALOL’s process was arduous, and required Bob Meadows and Doug Sabolick to rebuild everything from the ground back up. The writing process was intense while the two tried to meld a diverse range of influences – Killing Joke to Can, King Crimson to Kraftwerk, Fela Kuti and more – while respecting and remaining true to the sonic art that they had always traveled.

Three years in the making, A LIFE ONCE LOST’s new album ‘Ecstatic Trance’ (Season of Mist), is the product of that unwavering determination and raises their patented rhythmic attack to hypnotic new levels of precision and expression. Huge, jagged riffs and churning, syncopated rhythms are the blueprint for the emotive guitar-playing and explosive vocals of Sabolick and Meadows respectively. Dark washes of melody and ominous Hammond Organ tones color epic tracks such as “Madness Is God, “Something Awful”, and “The Blues”, giving their material a bold, raw sense of expression unlike any they’ve shown before. ‘Ecstatic Trance’ is one of 2012’s best metal albums, and proves that the path of A LIFE ONCE LOST is always moving forward.

Disturbed Frontman David Draiman Speaks Out For Randy Blythe

On Lamb of God’s Facebook site David Draiman, frontman for Disturbed, posted this:

As news breaks of Randy Blythe’s indictment on manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic, manager Larry Mazer responds with the following statement:

“After a three month investigation, the prosecutor in the Czech Republic has decided to move forward with an indictment of Randy Blythe on the charge of manslaughter with intent to cause bodily harm. Obviously, we intend to fight vigorously against these charges as we feel that in no way did Randy intend to cause bodily harm on the young fan who subsequently died from injuries sustained at the show. As he has stated previously, Randy intends to go to Prague to defend himself at trial.

While it is a tragedy that a Lamb of God fan died following a performance by the group, in no way do I feel that Randy did anything improper that led to the young man’s injuries and subsequent death. The price of a ticket to a show does not entitle audience members access to a band’s stage. In the years since the murder on stage of Dimebag Darrell Abbott, performers of all genres have had to become more guarded while performing in response to the dangers presented by fans trying to become part of the performance. We believe that Randy responded professionally to the numerous amount of fans rushing the stage that day, a number of them captured on videos that have been posted on the internet. We have testimony from the venue operator that acknowledges lax security and an improper barricade being used that evening. Numerous testimonies from fans also were contradictory as to the actions of the multiple fans that tried to access the stage.

At this point, all that the band, myself, and our lawyers can do is to present a defense and try to convince the panel of judges who will hear the case that Randy is innocent of all charges and that his name and reputation need to be cleared and that he be permitted to carry on with his life and career always mindful that a fan passed away after a Lamb of God performance”.

Please send your photos and information in as soon as possible if you would like for you or your loved one to be included in this tribute.

After a frustrating and heartbreaking postponement of their tour due to the insane incarceration of lead singer Randy Blythe in Czechoslovakia, Lamb of God returns to Pittsburgh with a vengeance. Touring with the All-Star lineup InFlames, HellYeah, and Sylosis, LoG will grace Stage AE with their brutal brand of metal. But, as we all know there are metal bands, and then there is Lamb of God.

A new breed of modern American metal was erected in the 2000s, with Lamb of God serving as the architects who designed the blueprint that would become the standard by which the bands that came after them would be judged. So often, the European metal scene set the tone and establish the creative high watermark of the global metal scene, providing the template that their American brethren would follow. Then Lamb of God came along and all bets were off.

It was Lamb of God who rewrote the rules, devised a new playbook and raised the standard. The genre was forever and irrefutably changed by what the band has done.

By the mid-00s, there was a full metal Renaissance, if you will, in America, with the genre enjoying several years of renewed success and critical respect. Lamb of God worked to establish themselves, without question, as the scene’s alpha males, dominating at every turn, leaving a parade of other acts to merely feast on their leftovers and scraps. Mind you, this was not a scene, style or era populated by middling acts, either. The era was filled quality bands and still, it was Lamb of God who defined the time period and that quickly ascended as the game changers and torch bearers. No. Questions. Asked.

Turns out, they’ve merely nicked the surface of what they can do and plan on accomplishing.

In 2012, Lamb of God remain the pre-eminent metal band and not by default, either. The scene is still healthy, even if some of the peers who stood shoulder-to-should with them during that period of growth have fallen by the wayside. Lamb of God still reign atop of the genre, thanks to their consistent ability to feed fans with only the best extreme metal there is. Their seventh album Resolution finds the band firing on all cylinders and doing things their way. As if we’d expect anything less from this Virginia wrecking crew.

With a rich history that includes three Grammy nominations, an invitation to tour with Metallica (which they did in 2008 through 2010 on the World Magnetic trek); debuts in the Top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 (2009’s Wrath debuted at No. 2 while 2006’s Sacrament debuted at No. 8); multiple Platinum-selling DVDs (Killadelphia and Walk With Me in Hell); an arena tour with Slipknot (which took place in 2005); the main stage of OZZfest (2006) and wearing the fact that they were banned in Los Angeles (the Forum had a problem with their name and booted them off the bill of two shows, one with Slipknot and one with Metallica) as a badge of honor, there’s no question that Lamb of God rule the metal roost. Everyone else is left to watch and marvel, and choke on their dust. They’re not resting on past successes or what they’ve done, though. For Lamb of God, what happened in 2002 happened in 2002. It’s about the right now and what’s next and that’s Resolution.

With Resolution, Lamb of God emerge for their haven in the South as powerful, as hungry and as extreme as ever. While most bands are running on fumes or coasting and sputter to album No. 7, Lamb of God are reinvigorated. They still have something to say and more to prove… to themselves and no one else. This sonic terror squad has come along way from playing squats in basements as Burn the Priest, but there is one constant: the instinct to make legit, honest music their way and that’s just what they’ve done with Resolution.

“The first and foremost thing that you have to realize about LOG is that we do exactly what we want, when we want, and how we want to,” declares vocalist Randy Blythe. “We always have and we always will. That’s why each record is a snapshot in time. We never consciously sit down and say ‘We’re going to keep it heavy. We’re going to keep it metal.’ We just do that because that’s what we want to do. If we felt like putting out a polka record tomorrow, we would. We’re trying to make ‘smart’ heavy music.”

Point taken and mission most certainly accomplished with Resolution, a 100 percent trend-free and intelligently constructed album that could power a small country with its unstoppable energy and potent riffery. In a scene littered with “here today, gone tomorrow” bands, Lamb of God have survived because nothing stops them from staying the course they’ve purposely chosen to embark upon. They’re not here to collect a check or respond to a label exec’s request to pen a “radio song.” It’s none of the above for Lamb of God. The men that comprise the band are a little older, a lot wiser and have families to support. Yet despite all those realities, making this music and making it their way is something that compels them, drives them and sustains them.

“You can still be a band that goes to the practice space, actually writes music together and then records. Being an actual band is still a viable option,” Blythe says. “Bands are disappearing with digital recording today. Things are progressing to the point where people are just playing a riff or pattern and programming the drums, and at the end of the day, they have a technically perfect record, but it isn’t a real record. We didn’t do that. Our record is a REAL record.” Indeed, there is blood and adrenaline coursing through every vein of Resolution and its pulse will be felt by all who listen. It’s an incredibly human record.

“We’re not spitting out a Lamb of God template record,” guitarist Mark Morton says. “If it’s uninspired or you have nothing left to say, you stop. We’re all putting other things in life off to do this, and we’re not going to do it if gets boring to us. It’s still exciting on our seventh studio record. We’re still gaining momentum and getting better.” That’s not a quality you come across often with aggressive bands. Playing physically taxing music at full tilt leads to wear and tear on the body and the mind, but Lamb of God are not affected by such issues. They’re like mutants made stronger by challenging themselves. While 2009’s Wrath was sonically forceful enough to shift tectonic plates, Resolution finds the band knocking out their songs with the signature groove and swagger that made them heir apparent to Pantera’s throne –an accolade left at LOG’s doorstep by critics over time– but with a little more refinement and attention to dynamics.

Overall, Morton feels that Resolution is the natural next chapter in his band’s history, albeit one that harks back to the past, saying, “It almost completes the circle. There is a purity in the music, like when you first begin and you don’t have those big aspirations, in a business sense, other than to play.”

Drummer Chris Adler, long regarded as one of the most jaw-droppingly talented and proficient rhythm keepers in metal, concurs, “Wrath was a bit of a first round knock-out punch to the face album and was purposefully very aggressive. Resolution is much more of a dynamic album.” He also feels that Resolution is born of the desire to surprise himself along with the fans who are happily along for the ride. He says, “A lot of bands get to the point where they put out seven or eight records and fans start to take them for granted. They aren’t the ‘cool guys’ anymore. I’m not immune to that, and we wanted to push ourselves and surprise ourselves by not resting on prior successes and by default surprising our fans.” Even so, he’s not interested in following any sort of trends. He continued, “The biggest thing is that we don’t all want to be the next ‘fill in the blank.’ We don’t have a unified influence as a band. Because of that, our approach and our sound is slightly different than most bands. We fight and argue which makes it a more honest process.” As bandmate Blythe said earlier, Lamb of God, as an entity, is like a living, breathing creature, not one that is plugged in.

The desire to maintain a “personal best” also keeps Adler and his bandmates at the very top of their game this deep into an enviable career. “What inspires me is to outdo the 21-year-old that I was,” he states. “I have to prove to myself that I am still a player in this game and keep up with the best. As a band it was important to us to prove to ourselves that we have something left to offer. We don’t need to put out records anymore, but we want to put out records. We don’t want to tarnish the legacy of the band, so whatever we do has to be stronger than what we’ve done. And we’ve done it with Resolution.”

The fact that band owns the same goals since their humble beginnings is what makes the album so real, as Blythe decreed. Bassist John Campbell says, “Putting out heavy music has been our aim since we started this. We wanted to be a great, heavy band. It was never a thought to us that this would be conceptual commercially. We’re all the original members and this is what we do. This isn’t a contrived business thing to get famous and make money. Our core value is to write heavy music, and I think that’s what makes a great band.” Amen to that!

So with that mindset firmly and collectively in place, when it came time to write and record Resolution, and to get into the meats and the guts of the album, the band elected to let producer Josh Wilbur become involved sooner, to direct what was flowing out of them, egos be damned. “We did incorporate Josh [Wilbur] a bit earlier in the process this time around,” guitarist Willie Adler says. “To have an objective ear early on in the process allowed us to sideline our egos at times and really drive for the best shit possible. We also wanted, as far as guitars are concerned, to really capture our live tone to record.”

Morton also revealed that the band did try something new and different with Resolution. “Unlike any other album before, this album was written over the course of a couple of years, at least with the guitars. Willie and I starting songwriting as soon as we started touring with Wrath,” instead of their usual M.O. of touring writing upon their return from the road. “Due to having the recording software, we were able to take down ideas,” he says about the head start. As a result, Resolution boasts some of the most punk rock moments and some of the bluesiest moments of the band’s recorded career, perhaps fostered along by the liveliness of the writing-on-the-road process.

The album may display some of the band’s deeper and less obvious influences, but Chris Adler is quick to assess the album’s frantic energy. You can feel tension and release in the songs, making the album as a whole a truly cathartic experience. He says, “We really were living on a bit of the edge of our capabilities. There are some frantic moments in the music; they sound almost panic-inducing. The album is overwhelmingly aggressive and will definitely get people off their asses and driving fast.”

Blythe, he of the booming, bellowing voice, is known for spitting out provocative verses in a militaristic, almost drill-sergeant style bark. His voice and his style demand and command your attention. What he declares in the space of his lyrics isn’t always comfortable –for him or for you- but he will always make you think about what he is saying. “I’m 40 years old, and I’m just now really getting some clarity on where my place in my life is,” Blythe admits. “This is about me getting clarity after partying for a long amount of time, looking at my life and saying ‘This is where I am, where do I want to go now?'”

Asking that question, which is something more than a fair share of the band’s red-blooded, average American fans are likely to pose to themselves, allowed the singer to enter an entirely different zone on Resolution. While he may have experienced discomfort, LOG ended up with a better and more honest record for it. He continues, “It’s an introspective record and goes over some uncomfortable things for me. I hope people that hear those lyrics will look at themselves and look at the world around them and say ‘This is where I am, I don’t like this.’ and try to invoke a change in themselves. My overall feeling for this record is ‘awakening.'”

The singer admits that he was attracted to underground, aggressive music in his youth because it offered a voice of dissent, one that he could relate to, so he attempts to distill that same feeling into Lamb of God. “That’s what I’m trying to put forth in my music,” he says. “Not everything is really okay. You can have your cable TV and Xbox in your car or whatever, but that doesn’t mean that everything is okay and you can just stop because it’s easy. The root of what I try to put forth lyrically is ‘Think for yourself.’ Do something, do anything.” And that’s precisely what bonds Lamb of God to their legion of loyal fans that have stuck with them for seven albums. Well, that and those bludgeoning riffs and technically proficient grooves have something to do with it, as well!

While Resolution admittedly contains some of “the swampiest, sludgiest stuff” of their career, according to Morton, as well as some of the aforementioned “most punk” songs they’ve ever laid to tape, the album also boldly goes elsewhere and features strings, orchestral movements and bluesy, acoustic guitars living among the band’s patented, potent groove and swagger. The song “Insurrection” is a signature, natural and instinctive moment for Chris Adler, who revealed the song was born when the group was locked together in a room and tasked with seeing what it could come up with.

Album closer “King Me” is a real showpiece on an album full of showpieces. As Resolution’s punctuation mark, it’s a beautiful piece of music from grizzled, meat-and-potatoes-peddling veterans. It was purposely placed at the end of the album, as an unexpected pay off for the fan who spent an hour of his or her life listening to what came before it. Even though Lamb of God make music that could put hair on your chest, underneath the buzz of the guitars, the thunder of the percussion and the ferocity of the vocal declarations, this is still thinking man’s metal.

“”King Me’ is an epic song,” Blythe declares without hesitation. “It fits that definition, there’s no way around it. When a song is an epic song, you want to make it as big as possible, which is what we did with the opera singer and the string incorporation.” Morton shared a little more about the process and how they arrived at such an “epic” moment, saying, “This isn’t necessarily us changing our songwriting approach or the method, but we really stretched out in the way we ‘treated’ the songs. Those are things that are added to the song after the fact, but they have a very impact on the overall sound. I don’t think we looked at it as ‘re-inventing’ ourselves; it’s really as simple as that we’re continuing to strive to make music that we’re interested in and that we’re challenged to play, and that we enjoy performing.”

Now that Resolution is in the books and has asserted its rightful place as one of the most cohesive, dynamic and boot-to-the-throat heavy albums in Lamb of God’s already extensive body of work, complete with epic and provocative moments, the goal remains singular: to move fans and connect with them, all the while creatively stimulating themselves. Lamb of God are pleased with the album. The only question mark is the fans and judging from the heft and the intensity of Resolution, there will be nothing but pleased fans once they get a load of the album.

Willie Adler said, “To see someone who has really been touched by the music is inspiring to me. Regardless of what emotion they’re feeling, what they’re going thru in their life at that moment, as long as they feel something, I feel as though I’ve done my job.” It’s true that Resolution has the capacity to connect with its listener on multiple emotional levels, in addition to the sonic one.

Perhaps Morton sums up Resolution the best: “If it doesn’t make you want to push the accelerator to the floor a little harder, flip off a cop or throw a bottle against a brick wall, then I haven’t have done my job.”

Few bands can craft an album that’s as thoughtful as it is visceral. One is often sacrificed in favor of the other. But such is not the case here. Lamb of God have managed to create a masterwork that allows the listener to unlock layers of sound and meaning on each consecutive listen.

There’s a whole host of reasons that Lamb of God remain at the top of their game in 2012, while others have faded and fallen away. Resolution is evidence of the band’s stronghold on heavy metal in 2012. None can match it, nor do they come close.
