Counterfeit Madison is led by queer Nigerian-American rock pianist and soul singer Sharon Udoh & they’ll be coming through Pittsburgh, PA to play Mr. Smalls Theatre with Mal Blum on 8/13.

“a little Nina Simone, The Hives and David Byrne thrown in”

Their latest album Opposable Thumbs was praised by the likes of Stereogum, Afropunk, etc and includes wild and reckless moments, poignant songwriting, and even tender ballads, seemingly abandoning genre altogether. Their live show is truly magnetic, raucous, and unforgettable. They’ve played Daytrotter and shared stages with Tune-Yards, Japanese Breakfast, Frankie Cosmos and Diet Cig & are touring with Mal Blum this summer.
“A force of nature…an inspired convergence of influences and impulses that truly sounds like nothing else.” – Stereogum “Ridiculously talented songwriter…” – John Darnielle (The Mountain Goats)“Unique voice is larger than life, belting out anthems of struggle and strength over a cabaret punk sound that treads a line between Nina Simone and The Dresden Dolls.” – Afropunk
