Your Smith, the moniker of Caroline Smith, is quickly making a name for herself. “ – PAPER

“[Your Smith is] moving away from the indie-folk stylings of her previous band, for something decidedly more suave and sultry.” – Blackbook

Bad Habit EP artLA-based artist Your Smith (formerly Caroline Smith) released her debut Bad Habit EP HERE on Neon Gold Records (Charli XCX, Christine & The Queens). Your Smith previously revealed “The Spot” and EP title track “Bad Habit” via Billboard, and announced her first official tour dates with support from BAUM and a string of dates supporting Rhye. She will make her NYC debut at Neon Gold’s 10th Anniversary celebration, taking the stage alongside Marina & The Diamonds, The Knocks, Matt Maeson, and more.

Published by Pulse Recordings (DRAM, Miike Snow, Gallant), The Bad Habit EP features collaborations with Tommy English (BØRNS), Stint (Gallant, Aluna George), Nicky Davey (Internet, Syd) and more.

Your Smith on her Bad Habit EP: “Bad Habit” was a bit of a mental breakthrough for me. It was the end of my writer’s block and it was the first song I wrote as Your Smith. I had exhausted myself trying to fit into the fabric of the LA pop writer scene. This song was my white flag; the surrender to myself and my sound. I expected no one to get it. Turns out a lot of people did and needed it as badly as I needed it. The rest of the songs on the EP came pouring out of me as a result so, in honor of the song and it’s freedom and peace it brought me, I named the entire project after it, and now deliver it onto you.”

The Minneapolis native relocated to Los Angeles in 2016 where she began to find pieces of herself tucked into the folds of LA’s rich musical history. Inspired by the cherished songwriters of her youth, she channeled that nostalgia, writing songs for the part of her that needed more of that feeling. This new outlook is encompassed on “The Spot,” her debut single as Your Smith – “The Spot” is the result of that feeling”, Smith writes, “the feeling of the 90s and the warmth and dustiness of the sounds mixed with the exciting evolution of modern music; the carefree vocals and the wholly accepted blur between masculinity and femininity in the music scene.” She continues, Your Smith is an embodiment of that identity. The blur, the warmth, and the familiarity. The change in name is less of a reinvention and more of an engagement with that part of me. I’m still me. I’m still your Smith.”
