Pittsburgh Event

Sons of Texas and Kyng in Pittsburgh on May 16th at Diesel Club Lounge

If you have never seen KYNG in concert, you really are shortchanging yourself.  But, you can amend all of that come May 16 when they roll into Pittsburgh to play Diesel…

The last time KYNG were in town, they opened for Zakk Sabbath and were brilliant.  We even got a chance to talk to Eddie right before the show…

KYNG recently released Breathe in the Water, recorded in Texas with Machine (Lamb of God, Clutch, Miss May I), is frontloaded with the type of impassioned vocals that erupt from the depths of the gut, unforgettable blues-soaked riffs, and pulverizing rhythmic clap. The album has received praise from outlets like Blabbermouth, Metal Injection, and Loudwire. The band’s sound is influenced by icons like Black Sabbath, Van Halen, and Grand Funk Railroad, all the while distilling it into their own unique, modern take on rock. You might even get a contact high from the stoner influence — think Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age— thanks to the melodic girth which is omnipresent in the music. BITW is the follow up to 2014’s well-received Burn the Serum. Kyng is Eddie Veliz (vocals, guitar), Tony Castaneda (bass, backup vocals), and Pepe Clarke (drums).

Sons of Texas was spawned in McAllen, Texas, a valley town without the music legacy of Austin or Arlington. Sons of Texas solidified in 2013 around a lineup of local all-stars. The young quintet’s debut, Baptized In The Rio Grande is a Texas-sized portion of power metal grooves, dazzling guitar solos, strip joint/tailgate sing-along choruses, and soulfully charred vocal melodies. The album has received praise from Kerrang calling it, “Rock with grit, spit and feeling – this gets better with every ride.” They were even Revolver’s May 2015 “Band To Watch”. The band has been touring non-stop in support of the successful release with artists like All That Remains, Buckcherry, Trapt, and Texas Hippie Coalition. The group is Mark Morales, vocals, Mike Villarreal, drums, Nick Villarreal, bass, Jon Olivarez, rhythm guitar, and Jes De Hoyos, lead guitar.
