TECLA Reveals New “Wake Up” Video on VIBE

Electro-funk/neo-soul/R&B singer, rapper, DJ and producer, TECLA, gives a final salute to the summer with her new video for “Wake Up” which just made its debut on VIBE. Directed by TECLA and shot during an impromptu party in her backyard, the video features a random cast of characters (including a duck she rescued from a local poultry shop) and epitomizes the never-ending summer while offering a peek into the random goings-on in the boundary-breaking artist’s everyday life. The New York City native released her new album, We Are The Lucky Ones, this past spring via Mayimba Music. Blending tropical, Caribbean, pop, and funk elements and written entirely by TECLA herself, the album has earned praise from the likes of NYLON, Entertainment Weekly, WNYC Soundcheck, MTV, VIBE, PAPER and more.

We Are The Lucky Ones opens with title track “Lucky Ones,” full of skittering beats and rumbling synth, which soundtrack TECLA’s message of understanding your own privilege. First single “Fake Tears” features her distinct, soulful vocals delivering an uplifting message above driving tribal beats. The hypnotic and soulful “Tragic Mulatto” was co-produced by members of Chairlift, while “Money” is a satirical take on gold digging, poking fun at the phenomenon while simultaneously bringing the party.
