It’s officially fall in Ohio, so bring on the goth rock!

AFI and Choir Boy made their way to the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio, on the 14th, and it was as cool as the night air.

Kicking off the night was Choir Boy. Fun fact, the keyboardist hails from Columbus and the singer from Cleveland. Ohio doesn’t have much, but we do offer many talented musicians. These guys brought their best dance moves to compliment their dark wave and soothing tunes. Think The Cure meets a bit of Depeche Mode. Check these guys out next time you feel like chilling out.

Only one opening band was on the bill, which means AFI was up next. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: these guys are legends for a reason. First to the stage was Drummer Adam Carson blasting some beats, then guitarist Jade Puget and bassist Hunter Burgan came bouncing in to start the song “Strength Through Wounding,” as is tradition. Then slowly yet gracefully, Davey Havok made his presence known, and the crowd erupted in chants of “through our bleeding, we are one.” Havok was feeling some type of way, as he was constantly sensually dancing across the stage between mic stand extensions to the sold-out crowd. The guys made sure to cover every inch of the stage to interact with the crowd, and Havok even made his way to the barricade to scream along with everyone toward the end of the night. I cannot recommend seeing AFI live enough, and there are still plenty of dates left in this tour to do so.
