Single Mothers is primarily the project of Drew Thomson, who started the band after abandoning a lucrative career in gold prospecting (!), and they feature an ever-rotating cast of musicians (they frequently refer to themselves as SM Worldwide, a tongue in cheek acknowledgment of their unique band make-up). Drew is a really interesting guy with a lot to say, recently embracing sobriety and focusing more closely on music.

Since their inception, they’ve garnered acclaim from places like Pitchfork, Vice, NME, Revolver and many more for their “scab-peeling punk,” and have toured with a few folks who are likely familiar including Touche Amore, Cancer Bats, Drug Church, Quicksand and countless others. Their new record was their heaviest and most direct, and their live shows are a constant highlight – super fun and raucous with Drew conducting the crowd and knocking imaginary home-runs out of the venue. They also just released a new single from the Our Pleasure sessions, a B-side named “Nihilist Headlights” that you can check out here.
