DEAD POET SOCIETY RETURNS TO THE STUDIO WITH LEGENDARY ENGLISH PRODUCER
ALEX NEWPORT
FIRST SINGLE “AMERICAN BLOOD”
OUT ON OCTOBER 19th
U.S West Coast Tour Starts On September 28
LOS ANGELES, CA — September 27, 2018—Los Angeles transplants DEAD POET SOCIETY, a four-piece band formed in Boston featuring singer Jack Underkofler, guitarist Jack Collins, bassist Nick Taylor, and drummer Will Goodroad, went into the studio with GRAMMY® nominated producer Alex Newport (At The Drive In, Bleached, Death Cab For Cutie) to record their new single “American Blood,” being released digitally on October 19th through AWAL.
“When I heard the original demo of “American Blood” I knew it was an awesome song with huge potential,” said Alex Newport. “A few days later I went to see the band live,” Newport continued, “and was blown away by their energy and passion, and tried to capture as much of that frenetic vibe in the studio. Jack has one of those amazing voices that only comes along every once in a great while. Creating “American Blood” was so much fun and it captures the band at their melodic and frenetic best.”
DEAD POET SOCIETY will also embark on a short west coast tour before returning to the studio with Newport later this fall to begin work on their full-length debut album.
The west coast tour kicks off on September 28 with a three-day residency and will take them up the west coast through California, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada. For tickets and current tour, information go to https://www.wearedps.com.
Formed in Massachusetts playing fretless instruments that create an uncanny wobble effect, and atypical distortion that sounds more like a vintage synth on steroids than an actual guitar, the band’s sound is both genre-defying and defining.
The group attracted attention with the release of their debut single “Sound and Silence” in 2014, and saw them gain a following with the release of their AXIOM and DEMPSEY EPs that followed.
In 2016 their music was discovered by the influential Mexican blog PepeProblemas, catching the attention of another up and coming band Sputnik, who invited DEAD POET SOCIETY to open for them on their national tour of Mexico. This opportunity lead to more tours south of the border and a rapidly growing fan base that has resulted in DEAD POET SOCIETY being asked to headline their own national tours of Mexico in the fall and winter of 2108/19.
In the band’s words: “It’s time. After five years of writing, touring, four EP’s, living in three different cities, two different coasts, one eviction, one homeless month, close calls with the police, multiple fights, car break-ins, stolen gear, and six terrifying and beautiful international tours, we’re ready to do the one thing we’ve always dreamed of: recording our debut album!”
