More than thirty podcasts will be represented at the free to attend Pittsburgh Pod Con in Lawrenceville’s Spirit ballroom on September 30th from 5 to 10 pm on International Podcast Day. The event, presented by podcast network Sorgatron Media, streaming radio company The River’s Edge and sponsored by Sidekick Media Services, will allow Pittsburghers to introduce themselves to a variety of Pittsburgh podcasts. It will feature several live shows including the International Podcast Day discussion panel, “Reasons to Podcast” hosted by The River’s Edge’s Brian Crawford.
The discussion panel, in addition to putting Pittsburgh on the podcasting map, will make history as only the second broadcast for the International Podcast Day organization to happen at a live meet-up event. “We at International Podcast Day are excited to have Brian and the Pittsburgh Pod Con team join our live video broadcast on September 30. This marks only the second time we’ve broadcasted live from a podcast meetup. We are anticipating a great panel of Pittsburgh-based podcasters sharing their knowledge and stories.”
The panel, lead by Crawford, will include Sorgatron Media founder Michael Sorg, Kahmeela Adams of the Rugged Angel Podcast, Katie Dugas of the ScareHouse Podcast, Mike Sasson of The River’s Edge’s Mike Sasson Show, and Corey Nevills of the B-Movie Bros podcast. Other live shows will include the Thrifty Podcast, the Wrestling Mayhem Show, the YaJagoff! Podcast and the Grown Dad Business podcast.
Some of the podcasts tabling at the event include ScareHouse Pittsburgh’s ScareHouse Podcast, Pittsburgh Current’s podcast and the Carnegie Science Center’s SNaQ. When asked about the event, the science center said, “Carnegie Science Center is thrilled to send its SNaQ team to Pittsburgh Pod Con! We look forward to connecting with fellow podcasters and listeners, while getting folks hungry for science!”
Pod Con creates opportunities to potential listeners and podcasts alike. For David Frishkorn of the Star Wars themed, The Cocky Cockpit podcast, it was a no brainer, “Podcasting is nothing without networking! PodCon gives everyone a chance to promote themselves, share ideas, and find other local talent!”
