Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper bring the party to Pittsburgh at PPG Paints Arena

Working the crowd up last Saturday at PPG Paints Arena may have been a risky proposition.  The fans of Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper are more advanced in age than a lot of shows, but that did not stop any of them from having a great time with two legends.

Cyndi Lauper, the 80’s queen of MTV, was not just entertaining, but funny, self-deprecating, and above all proved she still has an amazing voice.  Although she lately may be best known to younger generations as that lady on the Cosentyx commercials, most people know her for massive hits such as “Time After Time,” “She Bop,” “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” and “True Colors,” all of which she played to perfection.  Surprisingly the septuagenarian heavy crowd was on their feet from the first to the last song.

Rod Stewart last hit Pittsburgh in 2015 with Carlos Sanatana.  This time he graced the crowd with more of a ‘Vegas’ show production.  That’s not bashing anything, it was a big production with huge screens and an amazing band complete with three female background singers and two female violinists.  Rod’s voice is still in excellent shape and he let it show from the start.  Although of the 19 song set, only 6 were Stewart originals, Rod brings a ton of energy for a 73-year-old man, hell he brings a lot of energy for a 50-year-old!

Highlights of the night went beyond the balloon drop and soccer ball kick, leading off with “Infatuation,” and “having a Party”.  “Tonight’s The Night,” “Maggie May,” and “Downtown Train,” were also big fan faves, along with, of course, “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy”.  Rod is still super entertaining and not afraid to share the spotlight as witnessed when he brought Lauper out to sing “It Takes Two”.  That in itself may have been worth the price of the ticket, but the 19 song set was quite the treat.

Don’t miss the next big legend hitting Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena is Paul Simon Sept. 17!
