Zane Lowe Premieres Speedy Ortiz’ “Emma O”/Live @Cattivo July 15

“Dupuis’ diction is, per usual, razor-blade sharp”

“One of the sharper indie rock bands in recent memory”

“One of rock’s most compelling young voices”

“Off-kilter, hypercatchy pop-rock”

“effortlessly cool”

Speedy Ortiz premiered “Emma O”, the second track from their recently announced Foiled Again EP, with Zane Lowe’s World First Exclusive onApple Music today. “’Emma-O’ is the name of the Japanese Buddhist overlord of hell who judges souls” says frontwoman Sadie Dupuis. “It’s about spending uncomfortable, quiet hours with someone you still love but shouldn’t. I wrote it at a farmhouse in upstate New York years ago.”

Speedy Ortiz’s Foiled Again EP is out June 3 on Carpark Records. An addendum to 2015’s critically acclaimed Foil Deer, this digital-only four track collection features two outtakes from the Foil Deer sessions, “Death Note”and “Emma O”. It also includes two remixes of Foil Deer’s “Puffer” — one version featuring rapper Lizzo with edits by Doomtree Collective memberLazerbeak which Earmilk called “punk swagger” and another by hip-hop artist Open Mike Eagle.

Never ones to shy away from a relentless touring schedule, Speedy kicked off their latest North American tour on May 6 at Waking Windows Festival, began a co-headlining run with Philly rockers Hop Along, and will later be supported by The Good Life and others, finally landing at Forecastle Festival on July 16 and 17. While stopping through Washington, DC recently, the band joinedNPR Music’s Lars Gotrich for the new live music and cooking show#WAXnEGGS. Peep the full video HERE.
