The Options: Pittsburgh’s Best Kept Secret

The Options are a local teenage band from Pittsburgh. They released an album last year and a few singles in prep for their sophomore release that they are currently working on. The Options won the WYEP (91.3 FM) young band competition last year and have performed at Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Arts Festival, Three Rivers Regatta, Allegheny County Summer Concert series, Mario Lemieux Benefit hockey game, Jergels Rhythm Grille, Hard Rock Cafe, and many other clubs and festivals. They have played live on Erie PA’s Alternative Rock station WERG (90.5 FM) and Butler PA’s Rock station WLER (97.7 FM).  In addition some of The Options  songs have got air play on Pittsburgh’s WDVE (102.5 FM) and WXDX (105.9 FM).
These guys are not just talented, they also see the bigger picture as well.  They donated $1800 to Pittsburgh’s Joey Travolta Film Camp last year at Rock for Autism held at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in April for Autism Awareness Month.  This money was used to fund a scholarship to the camp last summer. The Options raised that through sales of their first album and donated in honor of their nephew who has Autism. The camp is for kids on the autism spectrum to create and produce their own movie.
The Options have won battle of the bands at various local high schools as well. They have won the Sardonyx productions High School Rock Challenge at Diesel last year and also the WYEP young band competition at Shenley Plaza.  Recently, they were selected by WYEP to participate in a teen band CD compilation project and are working with some of Pittsburgh’s best local musicians from The Clarks, Rusted Root, Meeting of Important People, Joy Ike, and Donora. Two of their members are now Freshmen in College (Duquesne University – Music, & Ithaca College – Film).
