The Music Box was an experimental shantytown of interactive musical houses presented by New Orleans Airlift. In addition to over 15,000 visitors, The Music Box attracted high caliber musicians like Andrew W.K. and Cash Money Record’s Mannie Fresh who performed on the houses for enraptured audiences, leading NPR’s Ann Powers to declare “High concept and nontraditional as it may be, (The Music Box) has found a place in the long history of New Orleans music.”

Following the overwhelming public success of this proof-of-concept for musical architecture project leaders Swoon, Delaney MartinTaylor Shepherd, Jay Pennington, and Tori Bush, along with an outstanding roster of over 100 collaborating artists and musicians, have been dreaming and designing a more ambitiously scaled version of a musical village to permanently reside in New Orleans.

The campaign is raising funds to design and build the initial musical structures for what creators say will be a sonic playground, architectural laboratory and performance venue unlike anything else in New Orleans or the wider world. These inaugural sturctures will be built to travel through New Orleans neighborhoods and the country as project producers continue to grow the village and secure their permanent site.

Unique premiums supporting this project, including original art by Swoon, private performances by Music Box musicians , and a one-of-a-kind instrument by New Orleans inventor Quintron, are in limited quantities and will go quickly.
