Continuing their media onslaught, GWAR front thing Oderus Urungus appeared on the Dan Patrick Show yesterday to talk football, the new album and as the case with Oderus a whole lot more. The interview with Oderus, Dan Patrick and Jamey Jasta can be seen HERE.
But that’s not all; Oderus has taken over the satellites at SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal. Every hour today through 2:00 AM tomorrow morning, the Warty One will be introducing new songs fromBattle Maximus. That’s a new GWAR song every hour!
GWAR will be heading out this fall on the “Madness at the Core of Time” tour. The tour, which features a completely brand-new show full of slavering creatures and deserving victims, is set to kick off October 2nd in Columbus, Ohio and runs through November 17th in Washington, DC. GWAR shall be joined by deathcore heavyweights and label-mates Whitechapel, Richmond, VA thrashers Iron Reagan (featuring Municipal Waste singer Tony Foresta) and A Band of Orcs (who are actually a band of Orcs).
Check out a stream of the song “Bloodbath” HERE.
GWAR‘s Battle Maximus features twelve brand new tracks that not only honor their departed ally, but tells the story of GWAR‘s latest struggle against what may be their greatest enemy yet…the insidious “Mr. Perfect”, who has travelled through time itself to steal the power ofGWAR–the power of immortality, and use this power to mutate the human race into his twisted vision of what the “perfect” human should be. Once again GWAR finds themselves as the only thing standing between the human race and the latest super-powered shithead bent on the destruction of GWAR and the enslavement of their worshippers. Most GWAR fans know the “Battle Maximus” was the sonic war of fratricide waged by the Maximus clan against themselves in order to choose a successor worthy to follow in Flattus’ clawprints, and was recorded as a song on the new album. Every GWAR fan knows that the awesome Pustulus Maximus triumphed in this struggle. But what most don’t know was the stellar line-up of additional guitarists that contributed solos to this blistering instrumental track. These included Lamb of God’s Mark Duane Morton (who played under the pseudonym “Tyrone Die Tuefel”), Ol Drake from Evile (Twatticus Maximus), and Todd Evans of Mobile Death Camp (also an ex-GWAR member, who for many years played Beefcake the Mighty and contributed to this work under the name Skookum Maximus)
But the biggest outside contribution came from Zach Blair of Rise Against (who had played the character of Flattus before Cory Smoot, and took to this project under the name “Splattus Maximus”. Zach flew into Richmond to GWAR‘s “Slave Pit Studios” several times, did much of the writing and arrangement on the record, and finally recorded tons of completely shredding guitar.
Said Zach, “It was so great to re-connect with this family of mine and be reminded of what a great, hard working institution GWAR really is. This organization defines the term “DIY”. If they want to see something or use something that just doesn’t exist, they make it! It’s inspiring to be around and in the ten years since my tenure with them I’d forgotten what a force it is to be reckoned with. I’m so proud of them and I’m so proud of this record.. This record is many things to me a musical send-off and tribute to the late, great Cory Smoot (in the manner of which he would have liked it!) and an extension of my own contribution to this amazing cultural, artistic and musical statement. I’m forever proud to say “I PLAYED IN GWAR!!” Tracklisting for Battle Maximus 1) Intro 2) Madness at the Core of Time 3) Bloodbath 4) Nothing Left Alive 5) They Swallowed the Sun 6) Torture 7) Raped at Birth 8) I, Bonesnapper 9) Mr. Perfect 10) Battle Maximus 11) Triumph of the Pig Children 12) Falling 13) Fly Now
