Last week, Baltimore electronic duo Matmos announced a North American tour ahead of their forthcoming album, The Marriage of True Minds, out Feb. 19 on Thrill Jockey. The Marriage of True Minds is Matmos’ first new full-length in five years and follows 2012’s The Ganzfeld EP, which was the culmination of four years of parapsychological experiments based on the Ganzfeld (“total field”) experiment. Today, Matmos offers album cut, “Teen Paranormal Romance,” which was premiered this morning via ArtInfo. The track drizzles melancholic synths onto booming bass-jeep drops and a gnarled modular bassline played by longtime Matmos collaborator Jay Lesser. Spiked with groans and mutters from noise bro DJ Dog Dick and eerie backing vocals by Dominque Leone, the song is at once fast and slow, at once heart-on-sleeve and ludicrous, not unlike the genre of popular occult fiction for which it is named. Matmos’ tour kicks off Feb. 11 in New York winding its way across Canada and the Midwest and onto the West Coast. Horse Lords joins Matmos as support act and collaborators, adding live drums, guitars, bass, synth and saxophone to Matmos’ assortment of synthesizers, electronics and hand percussion. Watch Matmos cover the Buzzcocks’ “ESP” with members of Horse Lords to preview what’s to come! A full list of dates is below.

“…there is something decidedly punk about M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel’s often noisy, very DIY approach to their craft. And anyone who’s seen the group perform in person can attest that the two men at the heart of this project, who are also a couple, have something of a creative mind-meld.” – SPIN
