We get bombarded by images all day long. Advertisements, Facebook, Instagram, emails, TV, on and on and on. We filter unconsciously and viciously. So when an image stops one dead in their tracks it has to be for good reason. Such was the effect when seeing Samantha Mae for the first time. Being a tattoo enthusiast and covered a bit beyond the norm (okay- way beyond the norm), I respect and enjoy looking at quality artwork. A friend forwarded a picture of Samantha and I could not only appreciate her body art but her obvious pulchritudinous outward appearance. After one has a chance to communicate with her, Samantha wows with the total package- she is smart, funny, endearing, motivated, strong, and raised on rock n roll. We here at Pittsburgh Music Magazine predict big things ahead…go like her Facebook, check out a Charm City Devils Show, and keep an eye out for this fast rising star…

What is your employment with Charm City Devils? And what is it like working with John and the boys?

I wouldn’t say that I’m employed by them exactly. I have a full time job myself so it would be very hard for me to take time away from it to go out on tour and work solely for them. Depending on the size of the stage they’re playing at their local shows, I’ll dance for them. We have a cage that we set up on the stage with them and I come out and do a couple of songs. It’s a ton of fun but super exhausting! At the smaller shows I’ll sell their merch.
Working with the guys is a blast. They’re the nicest guys in the world.

Can you tell us a bit about the times you have met Nikki Sixx?

I met Nikki a couple of times out in Ohio and another time in Philly. The first time was a big shock. I was standing on stage watching Papa Roach out at Rock on the Range and I’m super short so everyone kept standing in front of me, which got frustrating since I couldn’t see anything. All of a sudden someone put their hands on my shoulders to get past me and it was him. I couldn’t believe it. I got a picture with him but didn’t get a chance to talk. I always thought I’d be a fan girl and go crazy but I actually kept calm which surprised me. The next day I met him again and actually got a chance to talk to him, he was so sweet which made me love him even more! Last was at a book signing which wasn’t too thrilling since you really don’t get more than 3 minutes with him at those!

Who are your favorite bands right now?

My all time favorite band has always been KISS. I grew up with a father who listened to nothing but bands like them, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Van Halen and I could keep going!! He really raised me and my brother to appreciate what good music really is and not this teeny bopper crap we have out these days. Other than that I am really into newer rock and metal like Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch and so many more! But, my heart will always belong to KISS. =)

Besides modeling and working with CCD, what else are you into?

I’m a cosmetologist! I work quite a bit so it’s really hard for me to get into anything else with the schedule I have. Not to mention, I’m a homebody, don’t really get out all that much except for the occasional concert.

Being heavily tattooed myself, people always ask why. So, why?

I’m a huge fan of art in general. I took numerous art classes throughout high school and college so it’s something I’m really passionate about and there’s no better place to hang art than on your own body in my opinion. It’s always with you and they tell a story. I went through a stage of my life where I was very stressed out. I was dating a guy and it wasn’t really working out and school was being a huge pain as well so I sort of needed a way to release my stress. I think that was the point in my life when I was getting tattooed the most frequently. In a weird kind of way it helped me through those times because it was a way to escape from it all. Now I’m at a good point in my life and I find myself visiting the tattoo shop less frequently and my second sleeve is taking longer to complete!!

When is your next tattoo and do you know what it will be?
This week I’ll be adding more to my sleeve! My right sleeve is horror themed, I have Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, so I want to fill it in with elements that fit in with the theme I have going.

What are you most attracted to in people?

Look wise, I like a guy with long hair and tattoos. Other than that I really enjoy someone who has a great personality and a sense of humor. I love a person who can make me laugh. Also, I prefer someone who is like me and isn’t a drinker or a partier. It’s just not my style and never has been.

Any celebrity/musician crushes?

Ahh I have numerous, but I’d have to say my top 3 are Nikki Sixx, Paul Stanley and the odd man of the bunch, Jason Bateman. There is just something about Jason that I absolutely love!

Are you loyal to Philadelphia teams?

Where do you want to be and want to be doing in 5 years?

I don’t have a specific place or anything like that in mind for my future. All in all I just really want to be successful at whatever it is I’m doing with my life at that time. I don’t plan on having any children or anything like that, I just want to be sure that wherever I am and whatever I’m doing makes me happy.
