Stream Western Medications ‘Big City’ at Spin

The first offering from Western Medication’s 7″ EP The Painted World is a song entitled “Big City”. Clocking in at about a minute long, the song packs frenzied amounts of energy into a short, guitar-fueled ride. It encompasses the emotions that an isolated, small-town farmer would probably feel if he were dropped in the middle of Times Square. Fast-paced and unrelenting, “Big City” once again proves the old adage of quality over quantity.

Western Medication formed in December 2011 in Nashville, TN as the brainchild of Nashvillian punk Justin Landis. A decade of masking symptoms and playing in Nashville’s punk scene had brought Landis to a tipping point. The band was created as, “the remedy against the epidemic of uninspired rock that has been pumped out for years.” After his Chinese acupuncturist sternly warned him, “No more Western medicine!” he flushed his ailments sans deductibles, made a rhythm section out of Bad Cop’s Adam Moult and Kevin Kilpatrick, and Alycia Wahn from Useless Eaters, and molded a refreshing southern take on post-punk. It’s the coolness of Wire with the veracity of The Damned, the pulse of Joy Division with the ethereal guitars of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Western Medication will release The Painted World, their debut 7″ record, via Jeffery Drag Records on January 29th, 2013. With The Painted World on the horizon, Western Medication is already working on their follow-up project with the help of Cage the Elephant’s Lincoln Parish.
