Dispositions started out in 2015 as an internet project by guitarist, Ethan Massey. Soon after finding band members, Dispositions entered the studio to record their debut EP, Dead Era, which released in January 2017.

Dispositions then began playing local shows around the Dallas/Fort Worth area. They then hit the studio in late 2017 to record with producer, Cory Brunnemann in San Antonio, TX to record two singles, one being a Linkin Park cover called “QWERTY” and the other called “Imitator,” which Dispo shot a music video for.

With the momentum of those singles Dispo started playing shows and going on runs with bands such as DevilDriverJinjerUpon a Burning BodyBury Your DeadDrowning PoolAttila and MANY more!
Adding a second guitarist in the mix in 2018, Dispo hit the studio again with Cory to record two more songs later that year, “Pitiful” and “For You.”

Book Review: “One For The Road: How To Be A Music Tour Manager”

Let me start by saying that if I had this book in my possession twenty-five years ago I would definitely be in a different place right now in my life and I certainly could have been a much better asset for the bands I managed.  Not that I have any regrets, but instead of watching “Almost Famous” and just wondering how one goes about getting on the road with the band, this book actually gives you a step by step guide.  Mark Workman lays out such a comprehensive strategy to becoming a working tour manager that if one has the will, Workman provides the way.

Mark Workman has been a successful tour manager and lighting designer in the music business since 1983. His list of past and present clients includes Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, Machine Head, Danzig, Mudvayne, Dio, Queens of the Stone Age, Devildriver, Soulfly, Sepultura and many others.

As a lighting designer, Mark Workman has designed high-impact lighting performances for many music tours, including the infamous Clash of the Titans (Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Alice In Chains, & Suicidal Tendencies) in 1990/1991 and American Carnage 2010 (Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax & Testament), as well as for many music videos and live DVDs such as Machine Head’sElegies DVD filmed at Brixton Academy in London, Megadeth’s Rust In Peace Live DVD shot at the Hollywood Palladium, and Testament’s Dark Roots of Thrash Live DVD shot at the Paramount Theater in Huntington, NY.

“One For The Road: How To Be A Music Tour Manager” starts of  with a very strong endorsement by Alex Skolnick of Testament, of which Mark Workman was the lighting director then later manager.  These are the topics that the book explores:

Part 1 tells you how I got started as a tour manager and why I wrote this book.
Part 2 teaches you how to organize a concert tour and:
create a complete and accurate tour budget;
hire the best road crew;
lease the right tour bus and safest driver;
book hotels and air travel the right way;
create a proper backstage pass system and where to get it made;
deal with foreign artist tax for your band;
apply for overseas visas and work permits for your entourage;
create a tour book and the vital information it should contain;
coordinate trucking and air cargo;
Introduction
xiii
hire sound and lighting systems for your tour;
understand tour riders and contracts;
prepare ATA carnets and equipment manifests;
get backdrops, scrims and stage sets made;
prepare your tour accounting and a lot more.
Part 3 shows you how to get organized and properly advance each show and:
what you should know about stage plots and input charts;
preparing your pre-advance package;
making a proper advance sheet;
how to advance each show;
advancing your cash requirements and much more.
Part 4 guides you through an entire show day and shows you:
what it takes to be a tour manager running a music tour;
the mechanics of how to do press, meet-and-greets, and in-stores;
the proper way to do your guest list each day;
the right way to handle venue security;
how to do your daily tour accounting correctly;
how to do your show settlement each night;
important information about merchandising, foreign currencies, and more.
Part 5 shows you how to:
promote yourself so you can build your successful career;
find your first job as a tour manager;
and the road hazards to avoid.

That list speaks volumes, but the content definitely backs it up.  Add to that Workman’s writing style that is very smooth, humorous at times, and easy to understand, and you have one hell of a how to guide.  The promise of a series of these books is very enticing and long overdue.  It would not be surprising to see Berklee School of Music or The Musicians Institute making this book, or eventually the series, part of their curriculum…it’s that good.

If you want to get into the music business, are in the music business already, or are like me, and just fascinated with the music business, you will find this to be a treasured find.

Mark Workman is also a former boxing writer whose feature articles have appeared on BoxingScene and Fox Sports.

SYNTHETIC BREED Releases New Single ‘Xenogenesis’ — Featuring Original Lead Singer Callan Hughes

Australian industrial metal heavyweights SYNTHETIC BREED are pleased to announce that they have released a brand new single featuring the return of original vocalist Callan Hughes. The new track, ‘Xenogenesis’, is a “taste of what’s to come” from the emerging band, bringing a polished and more refined sound to the table while retaining the same formulated chaos the band is known for. ‘Xenogenesis’ was mastered by Mike Spreitzer of DevilDriver.

Callan Hughes returned to the band in October 2012 and the band immediately started writing new material. ‘Xenogenesis’ is the first track that was recorded by the reunited group, and as stated above, really gives the listener a taste of what is to come from the band’s upcoming full-length album. The full-length, which currently does not have a release date, is presently in the works.

‘Xenogenesis’ is available for streaming exclusively on SYNTHETIC BREED’s Facebook page and the Rogue Records Facebook page and is available worldwide on Rogue Records America’s bandcamp page. The single will be available on iTunes starting on January 25th. SYNTHETIC BREED is planning to release a lyric video this week just in time for the NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA. The band’s mobile app will also be updated for the event.

Interview with Mike Spreitzer of DevilDriver

Michael Spreitzer is one of the guitarists of the American heavy metal band DevilDriver. He replaced guitarist Evan Pitts in 2004. Michael co-wrote and performed on DevilDriver’s albums The Fury of Our Maker’s Hand (2005), The Last Kind Words (2007), Pray for Villains (2009) and Beast (2011). This is our interview with Mike 11.26.12 at Mr. Smalls in Millvale (Pittsburgh) just before the DevilDriver show with GWAR on the last night of the tour.

Thy Will Be Done – NEW EP

On Thy Will Be Done’s “Thrash and Burn” tour in the summer of 2009 – where they warmed up the stage for Emmure and Devildriver – I personally had the pleasure of meeting J Costa (vocals) briefly in DC. They made a huge impression in their entrance on a bill filled with nothing but heavy as hell artists, which is something I didn’t forget about them. Although this was more than 3 years ago, I remember Costa as a super down to earth guy simplifying what it was like to go on tour in Japan with Killswitch Engage, and couldn’t believe that it was all real. I remember a statement parallel to “waking up and seeing Mount Fuji seemed like a hallucination.” Well, here they are nearly 3 years later on their new EP sounding even bigger and better than I remember the first time around. True artists are always surprised at success – and it’s nothing less than humbling to see them providing more of their work after their initial presence to the scene.

The first track “Liturgy” embodies a mix of painstaking vocals that seem to engage a sinister curiosity for the rest of the album. Abruptly ending and transitioning into a barrage of hardcore blast beats while blending a slower, southern style variety, entwining a wicked solo in the second track “Ways of Old.” The third track “The Great Rebuilding” embodies an interesting crescendo before busting out a rhythmic “take the power back” sort-of angst, rightfully displayed by the song-title. “You The Apathy Divine” is arguably the most powerful track on the EP. The classic slow and grueling commencement leads one to believe a lethal slew of power riffs and maybe even a malevolent breakdown will follow. Your hypothesis is confirmed.

Thy Will Be Done’s “The Temple” seems to infuse just enough harsh, yet tenacious vocals that appear as if Costa has embodied the sound of despondency and anguish through the strength of his delivery. I won’t be the first to admit that this is something that not many artists can accomplish, without sounding inauthentic. The vocals are extremely real and vivid in tonality. The rest of the members seem to follow suit while still somehow adding to the vulnerable context of some of the vocals, specifically in the last track “Epiphany,” to give the album an overall wrenchingly emotional resonance.

The album champions a largely elaborative technique. This EP is generally coarser with distortion, yet more clean and versatile than some of their previous work “In Ancient of Days,” of 2009, or their 2007 debut album “Was And Is To Come.” Sparing double bass increases the heaviness and brisk style, while maintaining their original, old school sludge sound. A large number of emerging artists, similar in denomination and timing of inception to the scene in this mix of genres haven’t quite found a balance between too much of a signature technique as a compilation of styles, and not enough (mostly the former being the case for most). Let’s all be honest here for a minute – most of us really don’t want to hear nothing but constant chaos and an overload of what I like to refer to as, “Castle” riffs totally void of substance that gives metal a clumsy image. Its excellent to see these guys integrate Thrash in a way that really works for them. The finality of the album “Epiphany,” is simultaneously destructive and agonizing in a sense that’s nearly pleading. A terrifically painful way of finalizing the album that leaves you at an impasse – wondering what will be next from them? As the beginning left us wanting more, the summation parallels.

GWAR to Kick Off “Fate or Chaos” Tour This Friday in Philly- Wrap-up In Pittsburgh in Nov.

Intergalactic space mutants GWAR will kick off their North American tour dubbed the “Fate or Chaos” tour this Friday October 12th in Philadelphia, PA. The tour will run through November 26th wrapping up in Pittsburgh, PA (where PMM will be conducting a video interview about the wrap of the tour). Direct support on the tour will be provided by DevilDriver, with Cancer Bats and Legacy of Disorder rounding out the bill.

GWAR lead throat thing Oderus Urungus spoke about the upcoming tour:

Quoth Oderus, “We are pleased as piss-punch to be back on the road with old buddies DevilDriver and Legacy of Disorder, and very stoked to also have Cancer Bats with us. They are from Canada right? Why do so many cool things come from a place they call America’s Hat? Who is to say that America isn’t Canada’s sweater? No matter! With a nod to departed Scumdog Flattus Maximus, let the games begin with a BRAND NEW SHOW. Let the era of Pustulus Maximus begin!”

It was announced last week that Pustulus Maximus has new joined GWAR as an official Scumdog brother. Little is known about this being, other than that he has a skin condition where his face and feet are covered in painful pustules that can only be soothed by the application of savage metal, spoiled elephant semen or oral sex. Pustulus is also rumored to be half-deaf, which leads him to yell at everyone, which he does often, because he is convinced everyone in the band is ignoring him when actually he just can’t hear what they are saying. It is not known whether he crashed his Scumship into Antarctica or wandered up from the depths of GWAR’s Antarctic fortress – all that is known is that he is here, now, and is ready to ROCK.

Pustulus made his live debut with GWAR performing a rendition of the Kansas classic “Carry on Wayward Son” as part of the AV Club Undercover Series. The video can be viewed HERE.

Legacy of Disorder’s ‘Last Man Standing’ is Pure Metal Magic

With a siren’s wail, Legacy of Disorder opens up their latest effort, Last Man Standing. The sheer relentlessness of the first song, Thorns, tells the listener loud and clear what this experience will be about: pure metal onslaught. In the vein of Slayer, Testament, Exodus, and any number of powerful metal outfits, New Zealand now has Legacy of Disorder who are in fact creating their own legacy.

Although most of its members hail from New Zealand, fast-rising metallists Legacy of Disorder’s sound largely resembles the power metal that such renowned US bands like Pantera perfected and popularized. And as you’ll discover with their second release overall, ‘Last Man Standing’, it is only a matter of time until
Legacy of Disorder takes their rightful spot alongside the top modern day metal acts. “We think our style fits in well with today’s metal scene,” explains the group’s lead singer, James Robinson. “We have elements of a wide range of metal – all into one robust unit. Legacy of Disorder shows in a lot of ways the evolution of this genre, but with a unique sound that no one can replicate.”

With tunes such as Punish All, March to Death, Last Man Standing, Impaler, and Warrior Gene, there is no mistaking the subject matter as light listening. That is not say that LoD does not have an excellent sense of melody- but everything has its place. Legacy seem to be very concerned with ‘in your face’ metal at maximum volume. Lyrically there is no pussyfooting either. Brutal, direct, punishing, and violent the imagery created is of your favorite comic book fight scenes come to life before your eyes. Their execution of rythym to anchor their tunes while the guitars wail and crunch works extremely well, especially with some peppered in sound effects or ‘movie-like’ sound bites, thus creating a cinematic experience.

Alongside Robinson, Legacy of Disorder consists of fellow New Zealanders Rana Freilich (lead guitarist) and Jason Keill (bass), as well as Texas native Matt Thompson (drums). And there’s a reason why the lone star state provided the group with Thompson – Legacy of
Disorder has formed a tight bond with Dallas-based producer Sterling Winfield, who has worked in the past with Pantera, Damageplan, and Hellyeah. “Naturally, being fans of Pantera, we wanted to work with the same mastermind behind the scenes of such a great band,” points out Freilich. “After doing our demo here in New Zealand, we wanted the album to be the best it could, so we jumped on a plane, headed to Dallas, got stuck in with Sterling on our debut album [2008′ self-titled release] – which sounds great – and have been friends
and worked together ever since.””Sterling always keeps us on our toes, which is great in a studio environment, and draws the best out of each member – which is why we chose to work with Sterling again. This being our second album with Sterling, it felt like we were all on the same page. As a whole, there are many awesome memories – Rana’s noise gate pedal’s ridiculous battery consumption, James’
pantless antics, the bands’ ridiculous coffee consumption, and more laughs and funny stuff than you can shake a stick at. We think Sterling really got a taste of us Kiwis in our own environment!”

And as evidenced by such hard-hitting standout tracks as “Break,” “March to Death,” and the album’s title tune, the quartet is certainly starting to hit its metallic stride. “We would have to
say that we really enjoy all of the songs equally,” admits Keill. “It’s so hard to pick a favorite when you have worked on something that you have poured a lot of time and emotion into. Each song has moments that make my hair stand on end. It’s kind of like asking,’Which of your children do you like the best?'”
As one would figure from the explosiveness of their recordings thus
far, Legacy of Disorder is one ferocious live beast when they hit the stage, which Thompson confirms, when asked what can fans expect from catching the band live. “A high energy, hard-hitting precision live
set, showcasing each band member’s ability and presence, equating to a brutal live show. We look forward to setting in motion a tour for North America very soon.”

Pittsburgher’s can catch Legacy of Disorder when they play with DevilDriver and GWAR at Mr. Small’s in Millvale Nov. 26

The band is pumped and can’t wait to throw down the new material on stage. There will be no holds barred.”

It is only a matter of time until LEGACY OF DISORDER takes their rightful spot alongside the top modern day metal acts. “We think our style fits in well with today’s metal scene,” explains lead singer James Robinson. “We have elements of a wide range of metal – all into one robust unit. LEGACY OF DISORDER shows in a lot of ways the evolution of this genre, but with a unique sound that no one can replicate.”

BROKEN HOPE Reunite on the Carnival of Death Tour

After 12 years, a sleeping death-metal monster praised by the likes of Slipknot, DevilDriver, The Black Dahlia Murder, Dying Fetus, Job For a Cowboy and more, has awoken from the bowels of Chicago. BROKEN HOPE is thrilled to announce not only their highly-anticipated comeback, but also their direct support position on the upcoming Carnival of Death tour, brought to you by Rock the Nation and sponsored by Fender. The new tour features headliners Obituary, as well as additional support from Decrepit Birth, Jungle Rot, and Encrust. Tour dates are scheduled to be announced very soon.

In a recent statement, BROKEN HOPE guitarists Jeremy Wagner and Shaun Glass stated, “For over a decade, we’ve listened to fans worldwide who’ve asked us to return. We’ve listened to our peers in bands who seen us at shows and said, “when is Broken Hope coming back?” Well, you have finally been heard, and frankly, we just miss it too goddamn much—the clubs, the metal, but especially you: the diehards, the most.

“We decided as a first step to return back to the place that always felt like home: the road! So we are proud to announce that this fall, BROKEN HOPE will join forces with OBITUARY and join the Carnival Of Death tour! This tour will solidify that extreme music is still alive and well, we are ready, focused, and hungry to show you what we have in stored for you all! Moreover, we cherish and promote the legacy of our fallen brother, vocalist Joe Ptacek, as we travel from show to show and honor him, he will not be forgotten. With this being said, we would like to introduce Damian Leski of Gorgasm on vocal duties, who will handle the tough task for the upcoming tours. Be ready to be “Swamped in Gore”!!!!”

BROKEN HOPE was formed in 1988 by guitarist/chief-lyricist, Jeremy Wagner, while he was in high school. In 1991, after releasing two demo tapes, BROKEN HOPE secured a recording contract with an independent record label which released Swamped In Gore worldwide. Swamped In Gore was the first death-metal album to ever be recorded digitally. By 1993, BROKEN HOPE quickly signed to Metal Blade Records and released four albums: The Bowels of Repugnance, Repulsive Conception, Loathing, and the Metal Blade re-release of Swamped In Gore. The band’s third album, 1995’s Repulsive Conception, reached CMJ New Music Monthly’s Metal Top 25 chart, as did the follow-up, 1997’s Loathing.

The first four albums during the Metal Blade years are great examples of BROKEN HOPE’s original fury and they are the albums that etched BROKEN HOPE’S place in death-metal history. The first ten years of BROKEN HOPE’s existence were filled with non-stop writing, touring, and constant visibility with these albums. By the end of the ‘90’s, BROKEN HOPE parted ways with Metal Blade and went through lineup changes. The band produced one last album before the decade closed, the 1999 release, Grotesque Blessings. After North American and European tours for the album and a few unsatisfactory line-up changes, the band went on hiatus in 2000.

On January 20, 2010, original BROKEN HOPE vocalist Joe Ptacek committed suicide. Before his death, Ptacek met with Jeremy Wagner and Shaun Glass to discuss the resurrection of BROKEN HOPE. A plan was in motion with these three members to make the band a functioning reality. After taking some time off after Ptacek’s death to reconsider their next moves, BROKEN HOPE signed with Hard Impact Management and Booking with the intention to make the band a full-time monster again. Now, BROKEN HOPE continues onward with main songwriters Jeremy Wagner and Shaun Glass keeping the beast alive…brutal as ever…and with live tour dates worldwide.

Hopefully the Carnival of Death Tour will come our way in Pittsburgh…we will keep you posted with dates as soon as they are released.

SYNTHETIC BREED Releases ‘Zero Degrees Freedom’ EP

Australian-based industrial metallers SYNTHETIC BREED will drop their second release for San Francisco, CA based indie metal label Rogue Records America, entitled Zero Degrees Freedom on May 29, 2012. The four-piece signed with the label in September 2011 and the new five track EP is their first release for Rogue Records with new material. The digital-only release will be available for purchase through Amazon, Bandcamp, and other digital retailers. The EP package comes complete with PDF booklet, desktop background and Facebook timeline banner.

Zero Degrees Freedom was mastered by Mike Spreitzer of DevilDriver at his studio in Santa Barbara, CA. Having heard the band thanks to his friendship with Rogue Records founder and President Dean Martinetti, Mike was eager to get on board and lend his hand to the production.

The EP contains five industrial metal cuts fronted by stand-in female vocalist M. Refalaeda. In addition to completely re-working fan favorites like ‘Resilience’, the EP also contains the brand new single ‘Dimension Zero’ (the new video for the single can be viewed at this location).

SYNTHETIC BREED drummer Daniel Luttick states, “It’s been a couple of years since we’ve released new material. It’s a great feeling to be releasing new and re-worked material. I’m a big fan of DevilDriver and Mike’s work adds a bit of polish that really brings out the best of what we’ve done. Zero Degrees Freedom is just preview of what people can expect from our next full-feature album.”

Rogue Records previously released the double album Convergence and The Perpetual Motion Machine, for exclusive digital release. The latter album was also released for mail order through Rogue Records physical distribution with Century Media’s CM Distro.
