I’ve never seen Stage AE as packed as it was last night for Remi Wolf, and she absolutely deserved it.

Remi Wolf, a “funky soul pop” (her words) artist, is currently touring her album Big Ideas across the US and Canada. Her stop at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, PA, sold out ahead of time and was easily the most packed I’ve ever seen the venue. Excited fans came early for a VIP experience, and everyone brought their funky dancing shoes.

Touring with Wolf on this leg of the tour was Lava La Rue, who opened the show with authentic good-for-the-soul music. With jazzy riffs and some truly “out of this world” melodies, they were a great opener for Wolf.

After a brief break between bands, Wolf and her seven+ piece band entered the stage in a cloud of fog and surrounded by a huge lighting package. From the first notes she sang, it was clear that her voice is a powerful force, blending high energy with melodies that get stuck in your head! Whether she was belting out soaring high notes or delivering smooth, breezy verses, her vocal riffs transformed the experience into something far beyond just listening to her albums. The live rendition of “Sexy Villain” in its stripped-down format, reminiscent of a Tiny Desk session, was particularly a highlight, allowing fans to appreciate her artistry in an intimate setting.

Adding to the magic of the night was Wolf’s infectious stage presence. She effortlessly engaged with the crowd, sharing personal anecdotes and humor that created a warm, inviting atmosphere. She even came prepared with some Pittsburgh trivia, wearing a custom hat with “446” written on it and challenging the crowd to see if this number was accurate for the number of bridges we have. Her energy stayed through the whole show, and she never staying still for more than a moment, with lots of high kicks.

Aside from Wolf’s performance, the massive lighting package really helped elevate the entire show, transforming it into a full sensory experience. Lights were synchronized to the music, providing a vibrant backdrop that intensified the emotional impact of her songs. Her live band was incredible, adding further layers of musicianship to the entire performance. Their tightness and collaboration ensured that the overall performance was not just a highlight of her career but also an unforgettable night for everyone lucky enough to be there.
