STREAM DYSTOPICO
On Monday Kriget, the experimental rock trio from Stockholm, will release their third long playerDystopico. North America has only seen the release of What a Day, the debut LP from our Swedish friends, making Dystopico the band’s second release Worldwide. Kriget is not electronic – it’s mechanical. It’s not reverential – it’s rather just essential. Last month the band unveiled their EPIC music video for “Sleeping with Buddha” which Impose Magazine so wonderfully analyzed (Click here).
This fall the bombastic trio will hit the European road with fellow Swedish rockers Johnossi – please check out all dates below.
Right now the whole LP can be streamed courtesy of The Line of Best Fit (Click Here) – who proclaim, “[Kriget] make music that both challenges and energises, bouncing between shades of Deutsche-electropunk, deeply stirring jazz and proggy techno…. fans of Factory Floor will find much to enjoy in the record.”
With just bass, drums and a furious saxophone Kriget takes inspiration from pioneers in the margins of pop. A place where music, mystery and noise always will be perfect bedfellows. While Kriget’s sound and live performance is frequently called unique, a few reference points the trio can agree on include: Cybotron, DAF, Peter Brötzmann, James Chance and Ornette Coleman. Just today the band dropped a mixtape with Under the Radar – check it out now to see what the band is currently jamming to.

<< WHAT FOLKS ARE SAYING >>
“The song [Holy Mountain] is so hard to pin down. At times, it feels almost cartoonishly upbeat, but the free jazz business of the whole thing erodes that vibe in favor of something more murky and ominous.” – FADER
“I imagine seeing this live, with the carefully curated visuals Kriget employs, I envision club kids next to jazz cats next to acidheads, all equally losing their shit—it moves the body, the mind, and the heart.” – IMPOSE MAGAZINE
“Aggressive, driving, and a bit unnerving, this is psych-rock at its most abrasive. And fun.” – UNDER THE RADAR
“‘He Lives in the Same Forest as Me’, an imperceptibly slower jam off the Dystopico, compositionally reminds us of Fuck Buttons’ upcoming Slow Focus” – NO FEAR OF POP
“Experimental Swedish trio Kriget have a knack for eluding a comfortable ending or a straight presentation: their mixture of frantic drums, bruised bass, and maniacal saxophone work perverts typically accessible riffs, leaving them sinister and stalking.” – AdHoc
“At times they feel like a droning, loud noise band, but they have throbbing beats, digital accents and dramatic, off-kilter melodies that make it closer to electronic dance music, on crack” – MTV IGGY
