IMMUNITY OUT JUNE 4TH ON DOMINO

“Hopkins retains a gift for tear-jerking melody that takes an expressway to the listener’s emotions. . . in Hopkins’ living, breathing world of sound, beauty and beats are always free to commingle in ways that move, in every sense of the word.” – NPR Music [FIRST LISTEN]

“Jon Hopkins’ album Immunity is a warm, vital album that features moments of driving techno interspersed with soft piano stabs and ambient interludes. It’s overwhelmingly pretty, but also just sort of overwhelming. . . it’s a really great album with lots of layers and tunnels and gorgeous moments to burrow into . . . ” – The FADER

The first sound on Immunity is that of a key turning, unlocking the door into Jon Hopkins‘ East London studio. It’s followed by the noise of the door slamming, then footsteps, and then finally the crisp, clipping rhythms and pulsating bass of “We Disappear” emerge. So begins a confident, dramatic record defined by an acute sense of physicality and place; a bold statement after the quiet, intimate Diamond Mine, his Mercury-nominated 2011 collaboration with King Creosote.

From the moment you hear that key turn in the lock, Immunity announces itself as a powerful, multi-faceted beast, packed with the most dance-focused music Hopkins has ever made. Inspired by the arc of an epic night out, it feels like the hypnotic accompaniment to a journey of creativity, a trip inside Hopkins’ mind, using analog synthesis alongside manipulations of physical, real-world sounds to make dance music that feels as natural and unforced as possible. Listen to Immunity in its entirety now via NPR Music’s “First Listen” series.

Jon Hopkins will play his first headlining show in New York on Tue. June 4th at Glasslands, and he’ll return to New York in August for the PS1 Warm Up Series.

“quasi-Baroque figures, cathedral chords in rounded (and Eno-esque) keyboard tones. With the pomp grounded by the crunch, it suggested a classical education sidetracked by the beat, and Mr. Hopkins wasn’t too arty to wind up with more crowd-pleasing trance bangers.” – The New York Times

“‘Open Eye Signal’ highlights the transportative depth of Hopkins’ sound . . . a full-on techno churner”

 Pitchfork

“‘Open Eye Signal’ is one of those tunes that-at a blissful eight minutes in length-sits in a position where it is strong enough to stand on its own, yet it clearly also invites the possibility of making for some quality remixes.” – XLR8R
