Throughout his successful music career that has included a national charting hit song with Viva Voce’s, “The Future will Destroy You”, the formation of Blue Giant in 2008 alongside his wife and members of The Decemberists, a 2012 drumming appearance with Father John Misty on The Late Show with David Letterman, and several world tours, Kevin Robinson has seen his fair share of ups and downs and experienced the problems with both the music industry and the world at large while forging his path.  Although Robinson admits he has spent a great deal of his personal songwriting time in trying to analyze these issues, he recently took a break from it all to focus inwards and on the present moment of today.

In doing so, Robinson has emerged with a new duo,Electric iLL, and a new EP, Twisted Light.  To be known henceforth as Kaylee Rob, he teamed up with Ragen Fykes to create an Illumination of Electric themed and catchy music.  Touching upon his wide ranging influences that extend back generations to electro funk groups like Midnight Star and new wave artists like The Eurythmics, Electric iLL has emerged with 5 songs that could shake the current electronic driven Indie music scene.

Kaylee Rob has already experienced great success with Viva Voce, an Indie rock collaboration with his wife, Anita Robinson, which was named one “Indie Rocks Hardest Working Duos” by Seattle Weekly.  Since 1997, the pair has released 7 albums with various labels including Vanguard Records,BarsukMinty FreshAsthmatic Kitty, and more.

The new project, however, has been launched on Kaylee Rob’s very own record label,Amore!Phonics, which has fittingly been placed in the Robinson family’s backyard.  In creating his own label, Kaylee Rob has been very successful at tackling many of the problems he sees in the world; He helped friend Sufjan Steven in composing a bilingual song about the nonexistent Mayan apocalypse of last year, “Blue Baktun”, which was included on Steven’s Chopped and Scrooged Christmas remix album.  Additionally, Kaylee Rob recently created a program that prints 3D vinyl records. He has said, “With the advent of recyclable 3D cartridges, we can now – as artists – start undoing the petroleum based damage we’ve inflicted on this planet.” Always frustrated with temporary quick fix solutions to problems that fail to recognize issues at the core, Kaylee Rob tackles problems in clear and logical ways.

“Traveling down the unknown trail. Rolling on without no rail.”
Ignoring the subject of problems, Kaylee Rob and Ragen Fykes hit the studio and started coming up with original and keyboard driven melodies that would soon form into Electric “Illumination”, something that blended his favorite artists with The Book of Hopi and even some principles of Alchemy, the ancient process of producing gold from various substances like dirt; A process that has led to anthemic vocoder ass shaking tunes. “See me waving goodbye to the old life?”.

Electric iLL began requesting emcee friends to leave rhymes on their answering machine and even looked back to the wise words of electrical scientist Nikola Tesla for inspiration to their music.  With their artistic direction solidified in place, Electric iLL got busy and recorded Twisted Light in January of 2013, a remarkably quick process that harnessed their ability to capture the current moment and the feelings within. “Yes. I will rock for you.”

The result is a brilliant Illumination of electro-pop beats, catchy and melodic keyboards that capture the essence of new wave music, and uplifting vocal performances while integrating the robotic influence of a vocoder throughout.  This blend of styles has created a unique formula of Indie dance rock that has begun to captivate audiences through their early works. The Electric iLLumination’s Twisted Light will be available April 16th2013 on Amore!Phonics.
