“This could easily be the singer songwriter album of the year. Bill Ryder-Jones from The Coral releases a brand new album and it comes across like an English Elliott Smith” –Rough Trade UK Shops
Bill Ryder-Jones left The Coral after their fifth studio album ‘Roots & Echoes’, on which his arrangements hinted at a deeper and spectacular compositional talent. Last year Ryder-Jonesexplored this side of his creative talent in full with the orchestral album ‘If…’ which was a grand ‘imaginary soundtrack’ to Italo Calvino’s post modernist novel If On A Winters Night A Traveller.
Now Ryder-Jones has completed his new album ‘A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart’, which marries his masterful capacities as arranger and composer with his first firm steps as a singer songwriter. Warmly melodic, majestically textured and bravely intimate, ‘A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart’ confirms the talent which has been recognised by admirers and collaborators, Alex Turner, Graham Coxon andNoel Gallagher. Bill Ryder-Jones is a songwriter and musician who has quietly been staking his claim as one of the generation’s most gifted for over a decade.
‘He Took You In His Arms’ is the first track to be shared from the forthcoming his new album A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart. It was shot across a number of locations important to the album’s conception – his teenage bedroom frozen in time at his Mother’s house still complete with 90’s Liverpool FC paraphernalia, the beach at the end of her road, the famous ferry across Liverpool’s Mersey Riverand the streets, houses and pubs that colour Ryder-Jones’ life each day.
The video was shot by rising star Alex Southam who has previously shot videos for Alt-J, The Walkmen &Lianne La Havas. It can be viewed here.
The album was recorded in Ryder-Jones’ old bedroom in the upstairs of his mother’s house inLiverpool. Two friends from local band By The Seamade up the backing band for the recordings, which were then produced and mixed together with James Ford (Artic Monkeys, The Last Shadow Puppets).
‘A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart’ is released today on Domino Records.
