Stockholm’s Nervous Nellie has finally had their formal introduction to American audiences this past winter courtesy of their catchy five song EP, which revolves around title-track “Gloves”. Over the years this internationally established quartet has tried to find their logical place, musically speaking, and it seems that they just might have finally found it with Gloves. The Official video for “Gloves”, which premiered with MTV, is a gorgeous animated tale created by Swedish artist/director Tobias Petersson, check it out. Lastly, make sure you watch what Nervous Nellie is capable of delivering in a live setting with this exclusive rehearsal video – the boys may not be coming to the States anytime soon, but this video should hold you over.
The EP and forthcoming LP were produced by Andreas Söderlund who shared mixing duties with knob-turner extraordinaire Anders Hvenare (Miike Snow, Niki & The Dove). The forthcoming LP also contains a gorgeous duet with rising English songbird, Paloma Faith.
<< WHAT FOLKS ARE SAYING >>
“There’s a slick swagger to Gloves’ four tracks; a first introduction that comes out of the gates swinging.” – Interview Magazine
“The Swedish outfit borrows a hot cup of swaggering classic rock influence to pour over its flashy synth-driven hooks, a confident sound that leaves tracks such as “Gloves” sounding like Phoenix and M83 crossed with the Stones’ Some Girls.” – MTV Buzzworthy
“Stockholm’s Nervous Nellie combines the charm of Shout Out Louds with the slick energy of Phoenix. (As though those two names weren’t near-unimpeachable on their own.)” – Under the Radar Magazine
“The chorus [on “Gloves”] is a Miike Snow-esque piece of pop brilliance, and it’s just another example of what Swedish music does so well. The songwriting is on par with some of the most popular pop in the world, but it’s also got an interesting twist. Instead of inflating things to the point of obvious and perfect, Nervous Nellie plays with negative space and a human touch, which allows even the most anthemic of hooks to sit nicely without feeling obnoxious and out to get us. It’s a beautiful thing.” – Pigeons & Planes
“The Swedish indie-pop phenomenon is nothing new to us, and it seems to be a persistently churning machine. We’ve recently been made aware of another up-and-coming group from the Stockholm scene that’s known as Nervous Nellie.” – Baeble Music
