“These guys have managed to strike a fine balance between blues rock and stoner rock…”

-Cosmos Gaming-

Great Rock and Roll doesn’t just happen. It’s made. With sweat, swagger and alcohol. AndZED makes rock the way it should be made. Loud guitars, a shot of whiskey and a middle finger.  ZED‘s latest album Desperation Blues was released on May 21st and the critical acclaim continues to come in.

Today ZED has partenered up with RevolverMag.com the online home of Revolver Magazine, for an exclusive premiere of the band’s new lyric video.  The video is for the song “More”.  Check it out HERE.

Desperation Blues is streaming in its entirety HERE.

The band recently completed work on a video for the first single from the album entitled “Please”.  Check it out on their YouTube Channel HERE.

Desperation Bluesis available for order from ZED’s store HERE.  The album can also be ordered on Amazon and iTunes.

San Francisco Bay Area’s ZED takes it cues from the greats like Zeppelin, Sabbath and AC/DC, but combines them with their contemporary musical influences such as Clutch, Rage Against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age, creating a mixture that is new, yet familiar. With this explosive sound they are bringing back the guts, the grit and the balls to Rock. And they won’t stop until they succeed. At least in getting drunk and having a good time.

In June of 2012 ZED entered Sonic Room Studios with Tim Narducci engineering and producing their sophomore album Desperation Blues. With the studio expertise that he gained from working with greats like Bob Rock (Metallica, The Cult) and Howard Benson (P.O.D., My Chemical Romance), Narducci was able to harness the raw energy and essence of ZEDin a way that had not been done before. And what they came out with was 46 minutes of giant, hook filled riffing, crafted into 10 songs that make up one beast of an album.

Zed’s “Desperation Blues” is Blues Metal for Barbeques and Beer

431549_10151218465745579_384635715_n

Incandescent vocals deliver a warm, southern rock blues style, enveloping raspy undertones. “Desperation Blues,” a monumental, smooth and funky grind leave a nice “blues metal” taste in my mouth, an allusion to thumb through my iTunes in search for a similar sound following a full listen of this new ten track monster of an album. Zed encourage the ominously (and ironically) fuzzy feel-good southern sounds of bands like Clutch, and somehow a nice flavor of the stinging, whiskey soaked guitar chords of Mastodon. Although lyrically sinister, tracks including “Please” are desperate, yet radiant in a sense. The attitude of the album in general is relative to struggle, and elicits the very sound of rising above difficulty…with a smile on your face.

At times, vocalist/guitarist Pete Sattari reveals a somber Days of the New style, transitioning into a smoky, Phil Anselmo Pantera panache, if you will. Nice chunky chord progressions and strong lyrics parallel the delivery of the solid blasts of Rich Harris behind the drums. Guitar harmonies performed throughout “Desperation Blues” from Satarri and Lopez are vaguely similar to that of the heavy and mammoth Kim Thayil of early Soundgarden.

Overall, “Desperation Blues” will be a perfect summer anthem for outdoor metal barbeques and beer, (if you’re that righteous of an entertainer, of course). As somewhat of a “Country” girl, this album, vocal tonality, structure, distortion, everything paint an uncanny picture of blasting real and old-school powerful rock with those perfectly timed breakdowns through the windows of my car, just feeling like a total badass. You become the sound and beguilement itself. This album will take you back to easy summer memories, or be the lucky soundtrack to creating novel ones at a new chapter in your life.

ZED is gearing up for the release on their sophomore album Desperation Blues May 21st via I:AND:I Recordings. The band recently completed work on a video for the first single from the album entitled “Please”.

The band spoke about the video:

“We chose the song “Please” as our first video because not only is it the first cut on the album Desperation Blues but it also captures the energy and essence of our music. We spent 3 days filming it and had a lot of fun playing the bad guys who get their due. We kind of see it as paying homage to 70’s Grindhouse films set to a rockin’ soundtrack.”

Whether it’s the pummeling album opener “Please” setting the stage with it’s meaty groove and undeniable hook, or the dusty, hung-over southern vibe of “Crawl Back To You”, or the steady building epic-ness of “Rain”, every song on this slab kills, and word on the street is that it is their best work to date. And at a time where so many people are saying that Rock is dead, this album is here to serve as a reminder that Rock aint dead at all and this album doesn’t disappoint.

SPIRALARMS

Friends since the age of 15, Tim Narducci (Lead Vocals) and Craig Locicero (Lead Guitar) bonded over their love of heavy metal and hard rock music. Although the two remained friends throughout the years, they both went their separate ways and started bands of their own. After years of playing with their respective bands, the two friends contacted each other and decided it was time to start playing music together again, and in 2004 SPIRALARMS was born. Rounding out SPIRALARMS is Cornbread (Bass/Vocals), who had recorded and toured the US and Europe extensively with the band Vicious Rumors, Brad Barth (Keyboards), Anthony Traslavina (Guitars) and Ron Reeden (Drums).

Last, the band is no stranger to the road. With multiple West Coast tours, a U.S. tour in 2010, the band is comfortable with the hard work of touring to build a core audience. SPIRALARMS has also been active playing out live supporting such acts as Black Label Society, MSG, Kill Devil Hill, and performing at Graspop 2007 with Iron Maiden. The band is currently finishing their new album, Freedom, set to be released soon.

ZED
San Francisco Bay Area’s ZED takes it cues from the greats like Zeppelin, Sabbath and AC/DC, but combines them with their contemporary musical influences such as Clutch, Rage Against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age, creating a mixture that is new, yet familiar. ZED is Pete Sattari (Guitar/Vox), Rich Harris (Drums), Greg Lopez (Guitar), and Mark Aceves (Bass).
In April 2010, ZED released their first full-length album, The Invitation, which they had been brewing in the studio for over a year. The Invitation has a hard driving, aggressive sound but with solid groove that can’t be ignored. In June of 2012, ZED entered Sonic Room Studios with SPIRALARMS’ Tim Narducci engineering and producing their follow up to The Invitation. Word on the street? It’s their best work to date. The album is due this fall and will be included in their set during the Revivalution tour.

SWERVER
San Jose, CA veteran band SWERVER consists of Jimmy Arceneaux (Guitar/Vox), Dan Lawson (Drums) and Stevie Loveless (Bass). The band has been known to deliver heavy riffs, wrapped in memorable hooks, all served up with a slightly darker tone than their contemporaries. Tapping into heavy topics such as depression, racism, and various addictions, SWERVER reaches out to the fans who listen to music, rather than those who just hear it.

SPIRALARMS Announces “Revivalution Tour 2012”

Heavy rockers SPIRALARMS rose from the ashes of millennial bands Systematic, Forbidden and Manmade God. This sextet has one mission. That mission is to uplift today’s music scene by bringing true heavy melodic rock to the forefront. To help accomplish that task, the band has announced a six day tour of California (and Reno, NV) that will take place throughout the month of November.

Directly supporting SPIRALARMS will be California rock n’ rollers ZED and alt-rockers SWERVER will open each show. See directly below for all current tour dates and learn more about the tour at www.facebook.com/Revivalutiontour.
