Within the Ruins Ready for Summer 2014

It has been announced that Within the Ruins have officially entered the recording studio and are set to release a new album sometime this summer. No other information has been given at this particular time. The band has just come off of a long year of touring after supporting their last album “Elite” which changed the metal scene last year and ended up getting a lot of praise from many other bands in the industry. A band like Within the Ruins doesn’t come around often, and with only releasing three albums so far in their short career, they have miraculously improved every step of the way. They have a lot to live up to now, but there is no doubt that they can just keep improving (more than they already have) and blowing peoples minds with their music.

Stay tuned for more info on the matter.

Within The Ruins Making a Name for Themselves

On Tuesday August 6th, Within the Ruins played at Pittsburgh’s own Rex Theatre while supporting All Shall Perish on the South of the Border tour. Lately, Within The Ruins have been making a name for themselves ever since they released their latest album “Elite” earlier this year. The album has been getting a lot of praise and has been getting a lot of support by other bands such as All Shall Perish, Oceano, The Acacia Strain, The Faceless, I Declare War and so many more. Their following just keeps getting bigger.
Now even though they were not the headliner Tuesday night, it seemed as if the majority if not everyone was actually there to see Within The Ruins. Sadly they only played seven songs, six from “Elite” and the title track from “Invade”. Throughout the whole night, the crowd has never been so energetic until they came out to play. Out of the seven bands that were there, they were the only band to actually have a mosh pit going on during their set. There wasn’t any holding back at that point since it was everyone who was right at the front of the stage. Just to experience this band live is a whole other experience from their albums. When you see a band live, it should always be like that though. The energy they bring to the stage is unreal on so many different levels. All of the technicalities in their music along with how all of a sudden it changes directions and just drops to heavy metal just keeps your attention the entire time they play. It seems as if there is no limit for these guys right now.
If you get the chance, you need to check Within The Ruins out as soon as possible. They are actually about to go back on tour with The Acacia Strain as soon as this tour with All Shall Perish is over.

After the Burial Jams Out at the Rex

-by Dave Mondine

With the newer generation of metal called “metalcore” spreading like a disease throughout the United States, After the Burial is one of the first bands to start this trend.  Metalcore is a mixture of the old school heavy metal mixed with some newer more technical and electronic sounds.  After the Burial was joined by four other bands at the Rex Theatre in Pittsburgh, Within the Ruins, The Contortionist, Class Cloud, and City in the Sea.

Finally showing up to the show, The Contortionist was about to go on.  They haven’t been around the whole mainstream scene a whole lot which in this case is a good thing.  They are very similar to Between the Buried and Me with their slow to fast pace technicalities.  Their style is very unique and listening to them is defiantly a journey by itself.  Watching these guys on stage wasn’t really entertaining to but this time around it was more about the music.  Just from observing you can tell that they really get into what they are playing and are concentrating extremely hard since timing is a huge factor for this genre of music.  I wouldn’t say The Contortionist is highly recommended since their style is hard to get into sometimes but they are defiantly worth checking out if you are into Between the Buried and Me at all.

Next up was Within the Ruins and personally I was more excited to see these guys play over everyone else.  Within the Ruins is one of those bands who just keeps getting better with every album.  Their newest album that has already come out this year, “Elite”, is one of the best and most solid albums I have heard in awhile.  It’s fresh, heavy, and nonstop fast pace action.  So experiencing their performance was hopefully going to be completely outrageous and it was even better than that.  Within the Ruins gave it their all and had the crowd jumping all around and moshing quite a bit.  Playing a lot of new songs made the crowd pretty happy and I can’t say I blame them.  It seems that Within the Ruins is not afraid to tell you exactly what they think about everything in their song lyrics.  Being straight up atheists probably has something to do with that.  All and all this was defiantly the best performance of the night and if you need someone to jam to, Within the Ruins is where its at.

Last, After the Burial was finally up.  They are one of those bands who has a pretty decent size following but they are pretty underrated.  Just like The Acacia Strain, when these guys come to town to play, you end up seeing a nice size crowd ready to go.  Probably the best part about After the Burial is that even though they are recording a new album (set to come out this year) they played a nice even mixture of old and new songs to pleas the crowd.  What more could you ask for?  While on stage these guys were very hard to get pictures of but they made up for it with the high volume of their drummers bass drum blasting out of the speakers.  Just one of those feeling that makes your body shake it was so loud with such a deep sound.  Seeing After the Burial was a nice experience because they do tend to actually put guitar solos in their songs, which is hard to find with newer bands.  But these guys have been around for awhile so they know how this whole game works.  Once again I would recommend checking After the Burial out if you need some pretty sick metalcore to listen to, because they are some of the first to play that style.

WITHIN THE RUINS TO FILM TWO MUSIC VIDEOS, TOUR WITH CHELSEA GRIN

Massachusetts heavyweights WITHIN THE RUINS will be shooting two music videos for their new tracks “Feeding Frenzy” and “New Holy War” this weekend to support their new record coming out next month. The band has tapped veteran director Kevin J. Custer to take the healm. Guitarist Joe Cocchi adds his own comment:

“These two songs are the best representation of the new album as a whole. We chose a very melodic/groove oriented song (Feeding Frenzy) which is something this album has a lot more of. The other (New Holy War) displays our more familiar fast paced and to-the-point sound and lyrically focusing on religion.

With Kevin’s help we’ve come up with two pretty kick ass ideas. Two back to back days of shooting will require tremendous amounts of alcohol, so we are looking for a beer sponsor as well. Just kidding, but not really.”

EONE / GOOD FIGHT MUSIC SIGNS WITHIN THE RUINS & DARK SERMON

eOne / Good Fight Music has signed Western Mass metal titans WITHIN THE RUINS and Tampa’s finest, DARK SERMON to world wide deals. Both bands are slated to release new records early next year.

WITHIN THE RUINS has been hard at work for nearly 10 years. With two full lengths already released and an impressive touring resume, the band has set the stage for what is to be their best material to date. Guitarist Joe Cocchi adds:

“This is extremely exciting for us. We’re proud to be a part of this new family. We look forward to growing as a band with eOne / Goodfight now behind us, and we’re thankful to be working with people who care. The new album is complete! It’s also completely different so we’re very excited for our fans to hear it.”

WITHIN THE RUINS is: Tim Goergen (vocals), Joe Cocchi (guitar), Andrew Tate (bass), Kevin McGuill (drums)

DARK SERMON was formed in 2009 and has been making their mark on the Florida scene in spades. The band uses their fast, thrashy riffs, bone-crushing blast beats, and throaty vocals to bring something fresh and new to the table. Frontman Johnny Crowder comments:

“We are humbled and extremely excited to be working with such heavy-hitters as eOne & Good Fight. We couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming reception to our new label home. As far as the new record goes, there is a great deal of diversity throughout; think dark, think fast, think heavy. With great minds such as Scott Givens and Carl Severson behind us, it is safe to say that 2013 will be a big year for us.”

DARK SERMON is: Johnny Crowder (Vocals), Austin Good (Guitar), Neal Minor (Guitar), Austin Chandler (Bass), Bryson St. Angelo (Drums)
