Volbeat Seals The Deal and Boogies with Killswitch Engage in Pittsburgh

The States have been fortunate as of late, having Danish “metalbilly” band Volbeat tour here with some stalwart bands.  Last time around it was Anthrax and Crobot and the current tour is with Killswitch Engage and Black Wizard.  Volbeat’s current line-up consists of vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, guitarist Rob Caggiano, drummer Jon Larsen and bassist Kaspar Boye Larsen and they have a rep for bringing the goods.  Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie was released worldwide on June 3 and their sixth record is one of their strongest starting off with singles, “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown” and “For Evigt” (Forever) or the English version”The Bliss”.  Pittsburgh’s show at Stage AE was exceptional and there was a great blend of old and new material to entertain fans (see set below). Poulsen was a commanding presence and the acquisition of Anthrax’s Caggiano is certainly the coup of the band’s history.  The new record picks up where  Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies left off and their performance of the new tunes was spot on.

Metalcore act Killswitch Engage returned to Pittsburgh as well after a few years of absence again with lead singer Jesse Leach in tow.  No offense to Howard Jones (in between singer of KSE), but Leach’s return to the fold has made them more entertaining than ever.  Due to the intense heat, the stage antics of Adam Jonathan Dutkiewicz were a bit more subdued than usual, but the intensity was amped to replace the jumping around.  KSE is firing on all cylinders right now and seems to be even more back in the groove than ever before, making them a band to truly watch rise in popularity (if that’s possible).

Vancouver’s Black Wizard opened and brought their brand of doom-stoner metal to the masses.  These guys are definitely onto something as they have a great sound, look, and cool throwback chops.  You can check them out here http://www.blackwizard.org/.

Volbeat reveals, “I’m a huge fan of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. Having King on the record is a huge privilege. Normally, it’s not something he does. “We’re really looking forward to returning to Rock On The Range with a batch of brand new killer Alice tunes
to play for everyone!” says Jerry Cantrell, Alice In Chains.

“Head is back!!,” says Korn’s Jonathan Davis. “Rock On The Range is going to start it all off!! Get ready,
we are going to hit it hard!!”

“Bush are thrilled to be playing Rock On The Range with such great bands,” says Bush’s Gavin Rosdale.
“We look forward to seeing you all out there.”

“This massive lineup has scratched our seven-year itch!” says Gary Spivack, co-executive producer of the
event for Right Arm Entertainment. “Getting Soundgarden for their first Ohio play in two decades and
having seminal acts Alice In Chains, Korn, Volbeat and Papa Roach return along with bands new to ROTR that
include Smashing Pumpkins and Bush, and everything in between–the spectrum of rock n roll is covered…three days of constant energy. Rock On The Range is truly where rock lives.”

Now in its seventh year, ROTR will again take place at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, OH on Friday, May 17, Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19, 2013. With the addition of a full slate of artists performing on Friday, festival organizers are also adding a series of additional enhancements for ROTR 2013, including the new ROTR Comedy Tent.
“Our goal with ROTR is to constantly create new and interesting ways to expand the event and give even more
value to our fans,” comments Joe Litvag, co-executive producer of the event for AEG Live. “In 2013, we’ve
added a comedy tent within the site that will be curated by The Funny Bone comedy club. Having a slate of
incredible, up-and-coming comedians to riff on the rock experience will be a great change of pace for the
weekend. The site layout is also changing dramatically in 2013 to create better event flow, to add more
interactive fan activity to the festival, and to allow even more people to experience the higher caliber of talent
on the second stage this year.”

As a special limited offer, pre-sale weekend tickets start at a low price of $89.50 (plus fees), for Stadium
GA tickets only, from Wednesday, January 30 through Thursday, January 31 at 10pm EST.

Goremasters ABORTED are heading out on tour with VADER this month, and fans can expect the band to play a ton of old and new classics! To celebrate this upcoming European tour, ABORTED has now launched a new lyric video for “Vermicular, Obscene, Obese” on Terrorizer.com (UK). ABORTED vocalist and leading force, Sven De Caluwe, explains the meaning of the track: “Eating carbs is bad mmmkay? So yeah we have this new lyric video up for ‘Vermicular, Obscene, Obese’…Which isn’t really about carbs, unless you count corpses as carbs, or grannies, or trannies, or something…It’s also absolutely not about mass consumerism and other social points of view since we are as brain dead as our music, so go check out the funky stuff from the funky bunch, and enjoy!”

Check out the new clip here:

“This is the deadliest ABORTED has sounded in years…The more you listen, the more you’ll hear, and the more you’ll appreciate this bloody good time of a death metal album.” — BLABBERMOUTH.net

EONE MUSIC SIGNS SPOKEN

eOne Music has announced the signing of rock act SPOKEN. Both parties are excited to announce the new studio album, “Illusion,” which hits stores on February 12, 2013. Produced by Jasen Rausch (Red, Disciple) in Nashville, TN over the course of two years, the new album will be the band’s seventh studio album.

Bassist Ryan Pei comments on the experience. “The process was so long and spread out that it was more of an evolution during the process of making the record. Our producer, Jasen Rauch, has been a huge part of where this band is at sonically and has taught all of us so much.”

The band’s frontman, Matt Baird, has a different view when it comes to the time that was spent developing this album. “We love music, we love our fans, we love seeing the world, but most of all we feel that God has given us an amazing tool. Music is universal, we love to play and perform. We’ll do music for the rest of our lives. Hopefully We have not and never will take this for granted. We have great lives and have no plans on wasting it.”

The album is summed up in the heart of the first radio single, “Through it All.” “The song was written around the time that the tornado destroyed Joplin, MO,” comments Baird. “It’s a song about going through the fires of life, and actually making it through to the other side without giving up.”

“Through it All” is available for purchase NOW at iTunes and other online retailers.

Megadeth and Rob Zombie rocked Stage AE in Pittsburgh last week and will continue to do so throughout the U.S. and Europe. MPAPPHOTO was there to capture the pure energy of the show and has joined Pittsburgh Music Magazine as a collaborator.

Metal icons MEGADETH are delivering volcanic performances and earning rave reviews on their co-headlining tour with Rob Zombie, which marks the first time the two bands have toured together. The trek kicked off Friday, May 11 in Holmdel, NJ and will include two high-profile rock festival appearances including Rock On The Range and Rocklahoma, where the tour wraps on Saturday, May 26. A list of confirmed dates is below. For additional information on purchasing tickets, visit www.megadeth.com.

Prior to the show, the New York Times proclaimed that “the speed pioneers Megadeth have the decibels to fill the grandiose PNC” and the New York Daily News said, “At last year’s faceoff with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, the band led by Dave Mustaine offered a set that did both their sub-genre and legacy proud (5/10/12).”

In a review of the first show, Tris McCall of the Newark, NJ Star-Ledger said, “While most of the band’s peers have either slowed down, broken up or switched to a more profitable style, Megadeth presses on, hard and fast as ever. Mustaine is a study in perseverance–and professionalism, too: He recently had to re-learn how to play guitar after suffering nerve damage in his arm. That trauma has left no mark on him–his solos, sometimes taken in harmony with sideman Chris Broderick, are as dextrous, and rapid-fire, as ever (5/13/12).” Theexaminer.com added, “The musicians ripped and shredded their way through riffs and solos with machine-like precision, yet somehow projecting an earnest passion through the notes that speaks to the raw emotion of Mustaine’s songwriting (5/13/12).”

After their tour with ROB ZOMBIE wraps at Rocklahoma, MEGADETH–singer/guitarist DAVE MUSTAINE, bassist DAVID ELLEFSON, drummer SHAWN DROVER and guitarist CHRIS BRODERICK–will head to Europe for shows in Germany, Poland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Czech Republic, England, Luxembourg, Netherlands, France, Romania, Turkey, Switzerland, Greece, Belgium, Russia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland, then in September will head to South America for concerts in Chile, Argentina and Mexico.

A newly released video for the group’s next single “Whose Life (Is It Anyway?)” can be seen now.. The video is a heavy metal tour de force, depicting youth angst turned violent, resulting in an apocalyptic finale.

The current tour comes on the heels of MEGADETH’s critically acclaimed return of the traveling festival GIGANTOUR, created and curated by frontman DAVE MUSTAINE. Rave reviews poured in for the festival, which also featured MOTÖRHEAD, VOLBEAT and LACUNA COIL. “The return of Gigantour, a nicely curated package tour of heavy metal bands, is just one more step in a great run underway by Megadeth,” wrote the Boston Globe. “It was a smart and well-paced show, one that illuminated metal’s various angles (1/31/12).”

2011 marked the release of MEGADETH’s 13th album, the appropriately titled Th1rt3en. Released November 1 on Roadrunner Records, the album debuted at #11 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #1 on the Billboard Hard Rock chart. The album also landed on international charts including Top 10 placements in Argentina, Finland, Korea and Japan. MEGADETH also received their tenth Grammy nomination for this project, earning a “Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Performance” nomination for their single “Public Enemy #1.” The “Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Performance” category was, eerily, category #13.
