Flint Eastwood will be playing Stage AE on Thursday, February 22nd!
I was very excited to get the chance to see and cover Greta Van Fleet. The only thing I wish was that they would have played a bigger venue. They SOLD OUT Mr. Small’s Funhouse in Millvale PA. Rather quickly too. And from what I was told, they turned away quite a few people looking to get tickets the night of the show. This band could have easily packed a bigger venue such as Stage AE or the likes thereof. But we can hope for that the next time they visit Pittsburgh.
The band that consists of brothers Josh Kiszka, Jake Kiszka and Sam Kiszka, and friend and drummer Danny Wagner. The three brothers are musically gifted and will be at the forefront of the music industry for many years to come.
The shows started with a ton of energy and finished the same way. Josh’s vocal’s while VERY Robert Plant-ish, are BEYOND incredible. What he can do LIVE is phenomenal. Let alone what he can do on a record. Playing in these smaller venues, there is no taped vocals nor anything mysterious to be done with the sound systems. At Mr. Small’s HE BLEW THE CROWD AWAY with his incredible range and power. I really don’t want to compare Josh to anything that Robert Pant ever did. Many currently are calling them very Led Zepplin-like. However, Josh’s vocals are fresh and more powerful in my opinion. Plus, he plays with his range and ability much more than Robert Plant ever did, so again, I don’t want to compare him to Plant like many have. However, as GREAT of a performer as Robert Plant was, I will compare Josh to him in that regard. Josh kept the crowd in the palm of his hand all night and left them screaming and hoping for more. Black Smoke Rising, Highway Tune and Safari Song were AMAZING. Simply jaw dropping with what Josh can do with his vocal range. Josh’s range and crisp tone were great and he is not showing any signs of wear or tear on his vocals. I hope he takes care of his talent. It is indeed rare and breathtaking to say the least.
Edge of Darkness, Flower Power and When The Cold Wind Blows were equally as impressive. Josh’s blew the roof off Mr. Small’s on Flower Power. Again, his range makes the song.
Jake Kiszka really brought a lot to the table on guitar. He’s young very gifted just like his two brothers. He did some great things on the guitar that only a seasoned very really should be doing. Josh’s other brother, Sam while quiet and mellow at first really stepped out of his shell halfway through the show and shined. His talent on the keyboards also put energized the show. By the end of the show, Sam was really loosened up and having a great time. With Danny Wagner on the drums and the only one outside the family, he really shined. No real solo, but did have some time where he got to shine on the skins.
The encore brought Highway Song and The Safari Song. INCREDIBLE set enders and the crowd really was into them. There is really nothing more than I can say about this band and the show. If they are putting on the same exact show now on the west coast that they did in Pittsburgh PA, the crowds are getting their money’s worth and telling their friends that they need to see this band and buy their CD. Which by chance, is being released November 10th. Their new CD will be available on iTunes then and I expect to sell very well and hopefully setting up another leg of an American tour. Hopefully, Pittsburgh and Stage AE are on it.

Chicago-based Andrew Belle has made a name for himself as one of our more compelling songwriters since releasing his debut album The Ladder in 2010. Though that album held strong at number one for several weeks on iTunes‘s singer-songwriter chart and earned dozens of television and film licenses, Belle boldly followed a new muse on the album’s electronic, alternative follow-up, Black Bear. His third and latest album Dive Deep doubles down on the ethereal electronic sound of Black Bear, and sees Belle pushing himself to new depths as a songwriter, a vocalist, and a composer. Soaring choruses and moody arrangements abound on Dive Deep, a thoughtfully crafted and deeply felt album that deserves consideration among peers like James Blake and Bon Iver.
New Limited Edition Beer Available for Pre-Order Now, To Be Released in October
Iron Maiden and Robinsons Brewery have announced that their latest collaboration beer HALLOWED will be released in October of this year, and is available for pre-order now.
HALLOWED is a 6% ABV Belgian-inspired ale packaged in a 330 ml bottle and available for a limited time only. The beer will only be distributed for four months, with details on where it will be available to be announced on Iron Maiden Beer and Robinsons’ social media accounts.
“What makes this brew pretty special is that we’re adopting a Belgian yeast for the first time,” said Bruce Dickinson. “I’m a big fan of Belgian beers, so I jumped at the chance to brew my own. While I get very excited about experimenting with new formulas and ingredients, the thing about Belgian beer is that it’s as much a way of life as it is a drink. We’ve tried to bottle that philosophy in HALLOWED, albeit with a British twist.”
The use of Belgian yeast within HALLOWED is a landmark occasion, as Robinsons hasn’t changed the yeast used in its beers since 1942.
“It’s all in the yeast,” says Martyn Weeks, Head Brewer at Robinsons Brewery. “Belgian yeast yields a very distinct taste and presentation. You can sniff out a Belgian beer simply from its aromas: fruity, spicy and earthy. Belgian yeasts withstand higher alcohol levels, they attenuate well and create an array of phenolics and esters… put simply, this means more flavor and I think Hallowed drinkers are in for a treat.”
The bottle art for HALLOWED will feature Iron Maiden mascot Eddie garbed in traditional monk’s robes as a tribute to the beer’s Trappist Belgian inspiration. The art follows in the footsteps of other collaborations between Iron Maiden and Robinsons. These collaborations include TROOPER, which has sold over 15 million pints since its launch in 2013, and the previous limited edition beers TROOPER 666 and RED ‘N’ BLACK.

Although Berklee-educated modern progressive/world fusion guitarist FELIX MARTIN’s popularity first exploded in 2012 with the release of his Live in Boston album via Prosthetic Records, he originally began shaping his unique performance techniques at the age of just 13. His unparalleled ability to perform a striking genre-blend of metal, jazz, progressive, world and Latin music while nimbly executing it with personally-designed 14 and 16-string guitars is what preserves Martin at the forefront of fusion music today.
FELIX MARTIN will release his new album, Mechanical Nations, on February 24. good portion of Mechanical Nations is inspired by industrialized South American locations and the hard work of the people. Musically, Martin’s goal with this album was to discover unique sounds on the electric guitar while blending rock and metal with a Latin spark.

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 19, 2016) – VAMPS, the visually arresting Japanese rock band featuring HYDE (L’Arc-en-Ciel) and K.A.Z (Oblivion Dust), are back! There is a swell of activity surrounding the band, including new songs with major guests, a Fall 2016 headline tour across North America and working on their next full-length album.
VAMPS just dropped not one but two songs with blockbuster features: “Inside of Me” features Chris Motionless from Motionless in White, while “Rise or Die” was co-written with Emigrate and Rammstein guitarist Richard Z. Kruspe.
The songs are available via Spinefarm Records now. Get them on iTunes and Apple Music HERE or stream them on Spotify HERE. For a preview of the new tracks, go HERE and check out the official music video for “Inside of Me.”
HYDE spoke about the new material, which was written and recorded earlier this year in Los Angeles with Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (Papa Roach, Three Days Grace, 3 Doors Down). “The recording session with Howard Benson and his team was very creative,” Hyde said. “I truly enjoyed writing and recording these new songs. ‘Inside of Me’ contains themes of the forbidden and abstinence. ‘Rise or Die’ is a very catchy rock song that gets the audience pumped up when we play it live. I hope everyone likes these new songs.”

In promotion of their much acclaimed new album ‘Theories Of Flight’, U.S. Progressive Metal pioneers FATES WARNING are debuting their promotional video for the song “Seven Stars” via the website of Billboard today. Check out the clip, which was directed by David Brodsky for MyGoodEye / www.mgenyc.com, here:
FATES WARNING vocalist Ray Alder checked in with the following comment about the video:
“We are happy to debut the new video for “Seven Stars” from our latest album “Theories Of Flight”. This song is very special to me. The lyrics for this song were the first that I had written for the new album. I knew that my life was changing, I had met my lovely (now) wife who lived in Madrid, Spain and she was the inspiration for this song. I knew that I would be moving to Madrid soon, so the lyrics tended to come very organically. That theme would develop more as the writing progressed. Stories of change and moving on. Living life really. I found the flag of Madrid quite interesting. Seven white stars surrounded by red…Hence the inspiration for the title. I figured I would give a little tour of the city in the video since I’m now here. Enjoy!”

AGNES OBEL UNVEILS THE VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “GOLDEN GREEN”
DIRECTED BY JONAS BJERRE (MEW)
NEW ALBUM, CITIZEN OF GLASS, SET FOR OCTOBER 21 RELEASE
OBEL CONFIRMED FOR SXSW 2017
LOS ANGELES, CA – MONDAY, September 12, 2016 – Agnes Obel has released the mesmerizing animated video for her new single “Golden Green.” Directed by acclaimed visual artist Jonas Bjerre – who is also the frontman for the Platinum Danish alt/rock band MEW – the video is available to viewhere.
“I was honored to take on the task of making a video for this beautiful song,” says Bjerre. “The bells that emphasize the rhythm through the song, for some reason they made me think of blinking lights, and glass – glass being a recurring theme in Agnes’s new songs. As she told me more about the song, I started having ideas for some kind of internal world, maybe a world inside someone’s head, where various thoughts and feelings are in opposition, depicted as animated versions of Agnes, struggling to find harmony.”
“Golden Green” is available to stream now as an instant grat with pre-orders of Obel’s new album Citizen of Glass, due out October 21 on Play It Again Sam/[PIAS]. It is the second single from Obel’s new album following “Familiar,” described as “hauntingly beautiful,” “a pointillist, arpeggiating, strings-flecked stunner,” and “ASMR-worthy,” by the UK’s The Sun, The SundayTimes and The Guardian, respectively.
It was also just announced that Obel will be part of the lineup at SXSW 2017, marking her second time at the event. At the 2014 festival, Obel performed at the Central Presbyterian Church where
NPR’s Bob Boilen singled her out as a festival favorite, and the Austin Chronicle wrote that her music was “fiercely feminine and deeply powerful.”
Citizen of Glass is the follow up to 2013’s critically-acclaimed Aventine about which Paste wrote, “Agnes Obel exists at the crux where beauty and sadness are indistinguishable, weaving sedative piano whispers around tales of aborted love. Her haunting compositions melded the primal, delicate and forsaken into one of the most gorgeous albums of .” The new album will be available as a Digital Download, CD with lyric booklet, and on 180g black vinyl LP + download code in a gatefold sleeve. Pre-order the album from www.agnesobel.com
Agnes Obel will tour North America in 2017.
Marianas Trench: the pop-punk emo band from Canada that has been around for the better part of this millennium. The group has gone through its ups and downs, with the most recent of downs resulting in the high that lead to the creation of Astoria. The band has been touring for about a year, and has gone through the 10 year anniversary of their album, Fix Me. In a recent email interview, we had the chance to talk to Mariana’s Trench guitarist Matt Webb about Astoria, the 10 year anniversary of Fix Me, and what it is like to tour around the world with the other members of the band.
Webb remarks that it did not feel like 10 years since the release of Fix me. He also notes that the band’s sound has very much evolved since then. He says, “We have a lot of respect for artists that continue to reinvent themselves, it seems to be an integral part of a lengthy career in the music business. For that reason you’ll notice that Astoria doesn’t sound much like Fix Me.” (Webb, 2016) The band has taken on a very 80s sound, basing the latest album, loosely, on “Coming of Age Adventure Movies.” One such movie being The Goonies which takes place in the town Astoria. Matt talks about how he and the rest of the group keep the 80s vibe going on tour. He says the band watches a different 80s movie on the bus every night. He admits that they do find other ways of keeping it up as well, stating, “I find you can keep the 80s vibe going as long as you’re wearing tight pants, rocking a keytar, and exposing your man-chest whenever possible.” (Webb, 2016)
As mentioned, the band has been on tour for about a year, travelling to multiple countries outside of Canada. This means keeping occupied with activities, that, according to Matt, usually involve food and disinfecting the tour bus. The band also stays at some interesting places on tour. They find everything from dead rats in showers to kind old ladies offering to do laundry. He says this doesn’t usually affect their shows though. “We’re gonna rock the f*&k out anywhere we go, but somedays we smell better than others.” (Webb, 2016) The band truly believes that the travel is well worth it, as Matt mentions the incredibly rewarding feeling of packing a venue. An incredibly rewarding feeling is generated from filling a venue with fans that know every single word to their songs. Lastly, he left with some advice for young musician who look forward to one day celebrating 10 year anniversaries for well-known albums. Matt says, “Concentrate on writing badass songs. Then work as hard as you possibly can to get them in the hands of as many people as possible. Whether it’s through endless touring, online hustling, hand-billing, yelling them from the top of a mountain, ain’t nobody gonna get big if no one hears your shit.” (Webb, 2016)
Marianas Trench headlined at Mr. Small’s Theatre in July of this year. This was the second time they have played at the venue in 2016. They are currently touring in the United Kingdom.
