Krissy Krissy: “White Girl who has soul” Comes to Pittsburgh on October 5

California native/Brooklyn raised singer, songwriter, musician Krissy Krissyis often praised as being a powerful vocal house, the “White Girl who has soul”.  She is now embarking on a Fall Tour that kicks off in Washington, DC on Sept. 6  with Hunter Valentine (“The Real L Word”) and Girl in A Coma  a 20 plus-date adventure across the US and Canada.  The tour stops in Pittsburgh on October 5 at The Smiling Moose in South Side.

Krissy Krissy has been making tremendous strides in a very short period of time.
From garnering a quarter million views on YouTube in just two days for her debut single “Dreams,”  to a top record on I Heart Radio, to an MTV Buzzworthy Feature, to a #1 spot on MTVU “Freshman Pick of The Week”,  to releasing her new EP “Above All” last Fall to great success, and now a song on VH1’s round of On Air Menus, the Brooklyn bred breakout artist continues to break new ground.
Krissy Krissy has been channeling her authentically soulful roots ever since she was born Krislyn Rivera in the heart of working-class Bushwick. After being kicked out of her Pentecostal Church when she was just 15 for kissing a girl (and liking it) she took off on her own musical adventure, eventually being discovered in a local karaoke bar.
When she released her first single “Dream” last year on her debut album Above All, the bright bold singer-songwriter began capturing the attention of industry heavyweights like Funkmaster Flex and Vashtie, who called her “a rising star.”
While the 24-year-old has been channeling sometimes tumultuous life lessons into songs about love, overcoming jealousy and finding peace with grief, she has certainly risen “Above All”!

3-year-old out singer, songwriter, musician Krissy Krissy will be hitting the road together with all-female bands Hunter Valentine and Girl in A Coma for a Fall Tour.  A 20 plus- date adventure across the U.S. and Canada that kicks off on September 8th in Nashville, TN, and then continues throughout October.
The bands have officially announced a string of dates for the series of shows that sees Hunter Valentine and Girl in A Coma co-headlining with support from Krissy Krissy  (See tour dates below).
Praised as being a powerful vocal house, California native/Brooklyn raised, Krissy Krissy has been making tremendous strides in a very short period of time.
From garnering a quarter million views in just two days for her debut single “Dreams,”  to a top record on I Heart Radio, to an MTV Buzzworthy Feature, to a #1 spot on MTVU “Freshman Pick of The Week, Krissy Krissy continues to break new ground.
Growing up in a Pentecostal church, “the white girl who has soul” was quickly nicknamed “Frederica” for her musical influence spawning from the likes of Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, to Aretha Franklin. She was kicked out of choir and church at age 15 for kissing a girl; moved out of her family-of-8’s crowded two-bedroom apartment at 17; and was soon after discovered at a local karaoke bar in Brooklyn.
Since releasing her new EP “Above All” last Fall to great success, Krissy Krissy has been garnering impressive media coverage turning up everywhere from the pages of HIts Magazine, The Huffington Post, The Hype Magazine, MTV Buzzworthy, to URB and AOL Feature, to name a few.
Not one to rest on her laurels, Krissy Krissy is now working on her new album. She is also currently running a social media contest, giving away $1,000 to the person that posts the craziest picture of her new cut out cartoon on Instagram:  http://searchinstagram.com/mydaywithkrissykrissy#
Music’s new “it” girl is definitely on the move and making a lot of noise!
Krissy Krissy is beyond excited to be embarking on this tour alongside acts of the caliber of Hunter Valentine and Girl In A Coma.
Coming straight out of starring in Season 3 of Showtime‘s hit reality series The Real L Word   into the release of their third studio album, titled Collide & Conquer,

no one can deny the momentum behind rockers HUNTER VALENTINE.
The in-your-face buzz-heavy all-girl rock band , formed by Kiyomi McCloskey (lead vocals/guitarist) and Laura Petracca (drummer), has unequivocally established itself as a veritable powerhouse that is exploding onto the mainstream. Averaging some 200+ tour dates a year all over the world including the Sum 41 tour and more recently The Cindy Lauper “She’s So Unusual” tour,

Hunter Valentine have never been more primed to take the musical world by storm (www.Huntervalentine.com)

If anything is big in Texas, it’s certainly the buzz around San Antonio’s friend/sister trio, Girl in a Coma. Discovered and signed by Joan Jett after participating in a cable TV show called ‘Jammin’,’ the three girls took their punk tinged soulful tunes and charted iTunes and Billboard. They’ve opened for bands like Tegan and Sara, Social Distortion and Morrissey. With a total of

four albums worth of high-end singles and retro covers, they have earned the attention of many industry veterans and celebrities alike, including James Franco, who recently directed a series of commercials for Stuart Weitzman shoes, using the girls’ sultry cover of “Walkin’ After Midnight.” (www.GirlinaComa.com).
Get ready for the all-female artists invasion! New music, new tour dates and bigger sound will be coming to a city near you this Fall.

FIDLAR Premieres Outrageously NSFW “Cocaine” Video Starring Nick Offerman On Funny or Die

“Thanks for coming, man. Want some bum juice?”
“What the fuck is in this shit?”
“Tampico and Everclear. It’s pretty gross.”

When they started in 2009, seeing FIDLAR meant showing up to a house party and eventually having this exchange with one of them. Zac Carper, The bands guitarist and singer (well, one of ’em) would hand you a red cup , throw an arm around your neck and probably end up blurting out how fucked up he was. Their set list would read more like a grocery list of party supplies than a list of songs: “Cocaine. Cheap Beer. Chinese weed. Four Loko.”

After a few years of being a band Zac still plugs in his pedals attached to a skate deck (“Pedal board”, get it?) and says “Hi We’re FIDLAR: F-I-D-L-A-R. It means ‘Fuck It Dog, Life’s a Risk”.  Seeing a FIDLAR set consists of drinking and dancing with people that are twice as drunk as you are while the band rips through songs about what they know best: The girl doesn’t call, my ex is a whore, I lost my phone, my car is a piece of shit, my friends are pieces of shit, I do too many drugs, I’m really awkward, I love Del Taco.

FIDLAR is Zac Carper, Elvis Kuehn,  Brandon Schwartzel, and Max Kuehn.   Elvis and Zac met at Kingsize Soundlabs in LA and recorded a ton of demos with the band before playing a live show.  Their first show was on a FMLY bike ride at a skatepark in Culver City. Three years later the band has played with Black Lips, OFF!, Japanther and toured with The Hives.  They’ve released two EP’s and just got back from touring Europe.

Listening to them, you can tell that the band did their homework on punk rock and seem dead set on inflicting lessons on anyone willing to listen.  Any given song will give you a Germs influenced guitar solo, the catchy “Ooo’s” and “Ah’s” of The Misfits , and lyrics in the same family as Black Flag’s “Six Pack” and “TV Party” . On the same token they can just as easily be compared to any of the bands they cover (Blink 182, FEAR, CCR, Warron Zevon), yet it all comes across entirely their own: Surfier, Faster, more fuzzed out, more personal and a lot more drunk.

FIDLAR are your dumbass friends that find a beer, scrape the shit off their shoes, and tell you how the hardest thing about waking up late and trying not to fuck up your life is having to do it with no job, no money and everyone bumming your cigarettes.

FIDLAR recently teamed up with Parks & Recreation star Nick Offerman to create their most outrageous video yet. Pairing once again with Ryan Baxley, the director behind over-the-top clips for “Cheap Beer” and “Max Can’t Surf,” the video for “Cocaine” features a pissed Offerman on a decidedly-NSFW, 40-fueled bender through Los Angeles. Nothing is safe, including the Hollywood sign, a few animals, Matt Zuk, Nick Cage’s star on the Walk of Fame…

FIDLAR Announces Fall Headlining Tour/ Smiling Moose Pittsburgh 10/28

The Orwells To Support

To Play Festivals Including Austin City Limits and Bumbershoot

fidlar_060.112015

After a sold out spring tour with Wavves, FIDLAR is thrilled to announce their debut fall headlining tour, with stops at Austin City Limits and Bumbershoot Festivals.

Jon Pareles (New York Times)  commented on one of  the band’s SXSW performances, stating, “FIDLAR, from Los Angeles, worked a sly paradox. In songs about characters leading dissolute, drug-addled lives, the music is as cleanly executed as punk could be; unisons are perfectly tuned and timed, like one big shared instrument, pounding home riffs like a stainless-steel railroad spike.”

Don’t miss FIDLAR’s racous live show, and check out their latest video for “Max Can’t Surf” here.

Press Quotes

“And as they like to remind you in interviews and at their live shows, FIDLAR is an acronym for “fuck it, dog, life’s a risk.” That said, across these 39 minutes, they also make life sound like a lot of fun.” – Pitchfork

“On their self-titled debut, the fierce LA band blends messy house-[arty punk with fuzzy surf vibes and comes off like the Pixies if they wore lamp shades on their heads.” –Entertainment Weekly

“Punk’s not dead! And FIDLAR are here from Los Angeles to prove it with three-chord thrashes that summon the spirit of 77” –Guardian

“This doped-up, hard-partying Los Angeles four-piece are set to be the most exciting punk band of 2013.” – NME

“When they’re not guzzling cheep swill and writing rock & roll thrashers about it, Los Angeles punks FIDLAR have shown a knack for crafting sunnier pop cuts befitting their hometown.” –Rolling Stone

“FIDLAR isn’t just another California punk band churning out hard-driving rock (although tracks like “Cheap Beer” certainly live up that expectation); rather they infuse their songs—like the stand-out “Gimme Something”—with a subtly sunny pop vibe that shows off their LA roots” – TIME Magazine

“Carper and his bandmates may in fact be incorrigible do-nothings, but they’ve got something to show for it: an ever-growing catalog of readymade garage-punk classics that draw omnivorously on a half century of bad-ass pop, from Phil Spector to Nirvana to the late, great Jay Reatard.” – Noisey

“FIDLAR channel elements of classic acts like the White Stripes and Pixies, while practically begging for a co-headlining tour with contemporaries like Bass Drum of Death and JEFF the Brotherhood” – SPIN

“The tune can be summed up in a handful of image descriptions; sandboarding, grim reaper, suicidal flip-up hat, skull mask, and shred.” – Filter Magazine

“We all have a major music crush on FIDLAR here at VICE” – VICE

“FIDLAR has an agressive, straightforward, but melodic conception of punk.” – LA Times

“But one wouldn’t mistake the band for one of its slacker subjects, not when they play this fast. The tracks sizzle with the aggression and bargain-price fidelity of the SoCal punk tradition, though FIDLAR’s catchy hooks have more in common with Social Distortion and Wavves than Black Flag. ” – MTV Buzz

Yellow Red Sparks at Smiling Moose on May 14

YRS

Hailing from Orange County, Yellow Red Sparks have already been featured by Daytrotter, CMJ, Paste plus a heap of other music blogs and are about to hit the road in conjunction with the release of their self-titled LP. Their new video for “A Play To End All Plays” is now on NPR

Good coffee, cold weather, friends, family, trials, and tribulations. For some, these are the ins-and-out of everyday life. But for Yellow Red Sparks, this daily make-up holds the inspiration for their craft. The California based indie-folk trio possess a staggering ability to take seemingly normal circumstances, rewrite them with an uninhibited honesty and wistful beauty, and turn them into vivid scenes as told through their unique brand of cinematic folk.
Originally a moniker for California-based solo performer Joshua Hanson, Yellow Red Sparks now represents a trio, also comprised of Sara Lynn Nishikawa (upright bass/vocals), and Goldy (drums/vocals). Together, the three recreate Hanson’s songwriting by blending lush harmonies and haunting melodies with softly echoed vocals, as so effortlessly demonstrated on their first self titled album, released January 29, 2013.
The self-titled release is a spartan collection of short stories that, as principal songwriter, Joshua explains, is but a foreword into a much grander narrative. “Just like being human, this record as a whole goes through many emotions and each song on its own is meant to paint a portion of a picture,” he muses. ” I don’t believe that it’s possible to share everything a writer is feeling or trying to convey within 3 ½ minutes of a track.”
From the high energy guitar of, “Scents And Sensibility,” to the heartfelt strings on, “Happiness Comes In A Box,” Yellow Red Sparks‘ first release is a mature accomplishment for the band, and garnered attention from an extensive range of tastemakers. The band have since gone on to win two accolades for their local OC Music Awards in the Best Folk category and opened for the likes of Local Natives, Sea Wolf, The Jezabels, and Aqualung.
Their forthcoming video for single, “A Play To End All Plays,” provides a powerful visual for the haunting track which, for the band, “really stands on it’s own from the rest of the record,” says Joshua. The video provides a hauntingly dark, and theatrical portrayal of a seemingly doomed relationship, as penned by Hanson. The track’s chorus is backed by a choir of children, reminiscent of the eery 1960’s film, “Village of The Damned,” further adding to the imagery. The video is set to premiere on NPR whose editor Bob Boilen instantly fell in love with the magnetic orchestration.
In anticipation of their recent album release, the band will be hitting the road in May, bringing their intimate and emphatic live show to audiences across the country. Tour dates below.

Age Isn’t Ours

Release Date: April 2

Label: Run For Cover Records

on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/age-isnt-ours-ep/id630082434

The past 18 months have been eventful for Young Statues to say the least. What started solely as a recording project for singer & songwriter Carmen Cirignano has transformed into a full-grown living, breathing, band. With only one show under their belts the band signed to Boston’s Run For Cover Records (Title Fight, Man Overboard, Tigers Jaw). Just three months later in November of 2011, their stunning self-titled debut full length was released to universal ccrtical acclaim. That very same month, they found themselves supporting one of their favorite bands, Saves The Day, in the United Kingdom. The spring and summer brought tours with bands like The Early November, The Wonder Years, Now Now, A Great Big Pile Of Leaves & Mansions. They spent the fall & winter playing alongside artist as diverse as The Dangerous Summer, Make Do & Mend and Walk Off The Earth. December also saw the release of the Covers EP where the band chose to pay homage to some of their biggest influences including New Order, Billy Bragg, The Magnetic Fields and Ryan Adams.

On April 2nd, Young Statues will release a new EP aptly titled Age Isn’t Ours. A bold, lively and adventurous collection of songs that showcases the band at their absolute best and most confident. A portion was recorded and produced by Ace Enders (The Early November) at his Living Room Recording studio in Hammonton, NJ. A process that Cirignano says, “challenged the band to bring their very best every day”. Another first was guitarist Matt Weber in the producers chair who recording at The Gradwell House in Haddon Heights, NJ, which has become a second home of sorts for the band. Age Isn’t Ours sees Young Statues expanding on the atmospheric Americana inspired rock from the S/T full-length and into the world of smart and sophisticated indie pop. The songs move and unfold with an energy only hinted at previously. Still present are Cirignano’s contemplative and occasionally biting lyrics. Friends, lovers, family and every bit of his personal life are all discussed with an honest wit. “In a thousand years it never changed and I’ve only got sixty if I’m lucky” he sings on “Ghost Passenger” confronting both a situation he wants to desperately change and his own mortality in one piercing line.

With Age Isn’t OursYoung Statues have matured far beyond what their name implies. They are a band that started as an idea and grew into a certainty – all in just 18 months.

Young Statues are Carmen Cirignano, Matt Weber, Tom Ryan and Dan Bogan.

Diamond Youth Release Cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin’ Bout You”/ Pittsburgh Show 4/13 Smiling Moose

Keep an eye on Diamond Youth, guys. We call them blowing up, like tomorrow.” – MTV Buzzworthy

February 28th – Baltimore, MD – Lead singer of the alternative rock quartet, Diamond Youth, Justin Gilman has released an acoustic cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin’ Bout You” off his Grammy-award winning album, Channel Orange.

About his decision to cover Frank Ocean, aside from paying homage to the color Orange, lead singer Justin Gilman says, “I love Frank Ocean’s voice so much, I just had to learn how to play this song. I know, it’s unexpected for a rock band to cover any R&B track, but we’re weird like that. We listen to Justin Timberlake, Prince and Ace of Base too.”

Orange, recorded by Brian Mcternan (Circa Survive, Hot Water Music, The Movielife) is the follow up to the band’s well-received official debut, Don’t Lose Your Cool, recorded by Paul Leavitt (Circa Survive, All Time Low). In support of the recent release, Diamond Youth will be touring throughout March with Turnover and PJ Bond and have just announced that they will be joining Chad from New Found Glory on What’s Eating Gilbert’s first east-coast tour. Tour dates listed below.

Despite the varying musical tastes of each member in Diamond Youth, they all share a very common back catalogue of bands who have inspired and defined their developing years as budding artists. From Weezer to Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and all the way back to the Beach Boys, the influence these bands had on Diamond Youth is ever-apparent in the music they write.

Old Man Markley at The Smiling Moose Pittsburgh on March 17th

309763_10151195419451302_438956002_n

Old Man Markley is a seven piece punk bluegrass band. They have been described as, “Banjo punk soaked in a picture book, from minute one to seven in richer party liquor”. What a perfect combination for St. Patty’s! After listening to their latest Down Side Up, I would have to say that OMM has found an excellent mix of eclectic styles. Their vocal harmonies are spot on and as I was caught up in the melodies I could see people dancing to the picking style brought about by the bluegrass instruments. More on the side of traditional that non, these guys and girls will definitely provide some awesome drinking music. As they state in their promo material, “they’re not a traditional bluegrass band, nor are they a typical punk band. Instead, the band meld elements of both styles into a cross-pollinated “newgrass” amalgam”.

Rounded out by Johnny Carey (vocals, guitar), Annie DeTemple (autoharp, vocals), Joey Garibaldi (bass, vocals), Jeff Fuller (drums), Ryan Markley (washboard), John Rosen (banjo, vocals) and Katie Weed (fiddle, vocals), Old Man Markley roared onto the scene in 2010. Their unique blend of punk rock sensibilities, ear for pop melodies and deeply rooted love for bluegrass caught the ear of Fat Wreck Chords, who released OMM’s debut album, Guts n’ Teeth, in 2011. Over the next few years, the band found themselves scootin boots on stage with the likes of Flogging Molly, Bad Religion, The Reverend Horton Heat, NOFX, The Descendents and Against Me!.

After two years of relentless touring and winning over thousands of fans, Old Man Markley returned to the little house in Southern California where it all began to record their follow-up, Down Side Up. NOFX frontman Fat Mike and singer/guitarist Johnny Carey shared production credits. “With the support of Fat Mike, we went out on a limb with this album,” says Carey. “We didn’t restrict our creativity and can’t wait for the world to hear the variety on our album.”

A more cohesive unit than ever before, Old Man Markley overflows with a passion for their craft and for each other that is both audible and infectious as their instruments dance between seamless harmonies in what will surely be one of the year’s most unique and catchy albums.

Should be an excellent time at Smiling Moose…I would suggest getting your tix early!!!

Experimental synth pop outfit VYIE to play Smiling Moose on February 17; new record Feb 19

VYIE (ˈvī-ə) is the name of a darkly inspirational non-fiction character. VYIE is a four-letter-word. VYIE is a band.

Stories, told through VYIE, may be histories or future perspectives, events from the past or events that haven’t happened yet, and some may be present perspectives. But for more than the entertainment of her wild, imaginative stories, Jessi Monroe and Janey Criss use VYIE as a platform for bringing deathpop (an eskimonic sub-genre characterized by its electronic backbone and layers of darker, melodic clouds) to the forefront of independent music, where sounds are reviewed, discussed and analyzed.

The goal for VYIE on record is to take each song forward, into and through various methods of design. These methods include pairing digital elements with analog ones. Joined by drummer Alec Yeager, the goal of VYIE live is to take each song backward, beyond technical construction and artistic conception, in order to explore each meaning attentively and thematically.

To digress, VYIE began in March of 2012, when friends and protagonists of a like-minded cause – Janey and Jessi – stole three days from their lives of post-wizardry and fashioning, of sorts, in order to conduct a musical writing experiment. The result was an assuming product for the formulaic concoction at hand: boisterous synths, curious minors, acoustic elements, playful rhythms and thick, resolute vocals. Shortly following the experiment, Alec Yeager was invited to add thoughtful battery to the equation. Logistics were discussed, and VYIE became.

VYIE is a band that writes experimental, synth pop hooks and vocal clouds that take you on journeys in the dark, where reality and fantasy bleed into one another and visions begin.

Previous Praise for VYIE:

“It’s [“Abuse U”] a gliding ambient soundscape that might run placid if it weren’t punctuated by low-end squelch and throb that gives it an interesting murk, breaking the airy lightness with something more foreboding. The visual component, a collage of distorted scenes spliced into disjointed images seems apt for the duo’s abstract, meandering arrangement.”

– Shuffle (September 28, 2012)

“‘Too Far Away’ is another dreamlike snaking slice of chilled out electronica which is the auditory equivalent of being slowly, breathlessly, teased and seduced.”
-The Von Pip Musical Express (September 7, 2012)

“Vyie hasn’t been around long and as far as I know this is their first show in Atlanta but if they keep making catchy, driving and mysterious music that sounds like it was made for cruising down a freeway late at night with the windows down they will be playing many, many more shows all over Atlanta and everywhere else as well.”
– Hiplanta (June 7, 2012)

BEFORE YOU Pittsburgh Homegrown Pop-Punk Act To Play The Smiling Moose

“Before You is planted firmly within the contemporary pop-punk idiom, but hints at some interesting departures from the formula. This five-song EP showcases the band’s versatility (and guitar chops, with some allusions to Van Halen). Tunes about relationships and nostalgia and all the classic pop-punk stuff. Good work!” – Andy Mulkerin, Pittsburgh City Paper

Before You is an American pop punk band out of Pittsburgh comprised of Philip Arena, Bret Pusateri, Jason Capela, and Jed Dixon, veterans of the local music scene. As individuals, the band is equipped with music degrees, classical training, and music education backgrounds, as well as regional and national touring experience with previous acts. Their undeniable songwriting chemistry brought them together and solidified in their debut release, ‘Meet Me At Whisper Lake’. The 5-song EP was recorded at Bad Boxes Studios with the help of owner/producer Harrison Wargo and features special guest vocals from fellow Pittsburgh pop-punker Steven Soboslai of Punchline. The self-released album dropped on February 21st, 2012, garnering the band attention in the scene and opening slots for the likes of Anarbor, Conditions, Punchline, Hidden In Plain View, Days Away, Valencia, The Matches, Hellogoodbye, Hawthorne Heights, The Bigger Lights, For The Foxes, and The Scenic. We Have Seen the Future Of Metal and it’s Name is Battlecross

On the last night of a club size headlining tour Battlecross are tearing down equipment and preparing to head home to various outskirts of Detroit, Michigan. The excitement on lead singer (Kyle) Gumby Gunther’s face is palpable. Not just because they played a killer set in front of a very loyal Pittsburgh crowd, but more importantly because he gets to go home to see his son. Life long friends since kindergarten, guitar players Tony Asta and Hiran Deraniyagala, are jovial and glad handing the fans as they file out of the venue, eager to get to work on their sophomore effort to follow up the crticically acclaimed and fan adored ‘Pursuit of Honor’. Don (bass) and Mike (drums) are busily getting all the eqipment prepped to get back to the motor city for what may become one of the most important Januarys in their lives.
Metal Blade recording artists Battlecross have been afforded some amazing touring opps for good reason. They are the next big thing. There really is no debate. PMM had the great pleasure of catching them at Stage AE in Pittsburgh this summer on the Trespass America Festival. Battlecross put in one of the most vicious and brutal sets of the day, winning the crowd over and making a true impression. The band certainly remembers Pittsburgh and their awesome experience as one of the best days of their tour (and PMM can’t thank them enough for sporting our shirts throughout the tour!). We did not hesitate to make it to their headlining performance in Pittsburgh at The Smiling Moose in Southside.
Last night on December 19, 2012 Battlecross gave a performance that will forever be burned into those lucky enough to witness it. It was tight, concise, fun, brutal, passionate, and empowering. In short it was everything that we all love metal for. These guys are carrying the torch of the great ones and taking it to the next level. Drawing from their influences and expounding on them with their own flair and flourish, Hiran and Tony are amazing guitar players that have a sixth sense when it comes to how their work interacts with one another. The back and forth rhythym and lead is a second nature that requires no communication, unless these guys have acquired telepathic powers (which is entirely possible given their history). Don Slater’s bass playing punctuates the high end whilst at the same time is a blistering example of some of the most incredible low end work in metal today. Mike Kreger’s drum technique is top notch as well, and he certainly has the technical skills and fluidity to distinguish himself from the hoarde of other double bass beaters out there. And of course there is Kyle, or as many know him as, “Gumby”. Gumby’s voice has great range, from the gutteral sqwual that is required of all thrash vocalists to the melodic musings of an era gone by in metal. He commands an audience with rapt attention, fists in the air, devil horns waving in unison and chanting the words with him, the crowd is mesmerized.
For those of you who unfortunately missed a performance of a lifetime, PMM offers you our exclusive interview with Hiran before the show with some great insight into what is going on with Battlecross now, what 2013 holds in store, and some awesome bands to check out. Also, check out their performance of ‘Push, Pull, Destroy’ at The Smiling Moose in Pittsburgh:

UNCONSCIOUS DISTURBANCE is rooted in Sao Paulo, Brazil as far back as 1996, when drummer Daniel Freiberg and guitarist Patrick Caracas met and began playing together at the age of eight. This relationship formed into a friendship that would eventually evolve into a strong musical alliance. Years later in 2005, vocalist Frederico Carneiro joined Freiberg and Caracas, and UNCONSCIOUS DISTURBANCE was born.

The trio recorded their first demo at a local recording studio where sound engineer and bassist Fadel Dabien, upon hearing the music, was instantly captivated and joined the band. Shortly after, they began to hold auditions for a second guitarist. However they soon realized a diamond in the rough—Daniel Freiberg’s younger brother, Kiko Freiberg, who would eventually receive a B.A. in Music at Bard College, was a perfect fit. UNCONSCIOUS DISTURBANCE was now complete.

In 2007, after recording their first DIY EP, UNCONSCIOUS DISTURBANCE toured through Canada, where they performed nightly to impressed and captivated crowds, as well as many great fan reviews. After this tour is when Mind’s Corner, their band’s first major studio album, first transitioned from mind to music.

Big-city chaos fused with rhythmic instrumental lines is what generates the crushing and profound sonic experience that is UNCONSCIOUS DISTURBANCE.

Affiance’s ‘The Campaign’ Has Killer Week- See Them Live in PGH 12/12

The new Affiance album “The Campaign” has had a successful first week! Some great sales numbers have charted them at #7 Heatseekers, #7 Top New Artist, #37 Top Hard Albums, and #53 Top Indie Albums. Singer Dennis Tvrdik commented, “We are absolutely stoked that we charted on Billboard! Our fans are insanely supportive and believe in us not only as a band but as people. Thank you to everyone who bought The Campaign. We are forever grateful!”

The band just premiered their first music video from “The Campaign”! The video is for the opening track “Kings Of Deceit” and shows the band performing as well as newsworthy moments from the last few decades. The song also features Dustin Davidson from August Burns Red (courtesy of Solid State) who gives a great vocal performance!

“We were really excited to do a serious and dark video since our biggest video is us running around in our pajamas and playing a video game. This video is for the first track on the album and we wanted to start ‘The Campaign’ off by calling out the media and the powerful who orchestrate and manipulate the biggest events throughout modern history. It also shows a different side of us than our ‘Call To The Warrior’ video. You know us as easy going, good time dudes, but we are also dead serious about making positive change in the world around us.” – Dennis Tvrdik (Vocals)

Dennis Tvrdik commented on the new album (Produced by Carson Slovak at Atrium Audio who has recently finished records for August Burns Red, Texas In July), “The Campaign is multiple levels above No Secret Revealed in every area. The vocals, the drums, the guitars, the recording quality, the song structure, the variety… We couldn’t be happier or more confident with a sophomore album. It almost feels like we skipped a release between the two albums! There is not a doubt in my mind that this will be a game changer for us and will open many doors to opportunities otherwise closed off from us.”

Affiance recently appeared AS A CARTOON (yes, a cartoon) in a new interview with South Africa’s MK Ondergrond! The interview appeared on national SA television but can be seen on YouTube along with recent interviews with In Flames and The Used. Singer Dennis Tvrdik talks about their hometown of Cleveland, the metal and hardcore scenes, touring, music videos, and more. They have also recently been featured in Hails And Horns Magazine and have features coming in the next issue of Outburn Magazine and more!

The guys launched their new music video for “Nostra Culpa” this Spring and it is available on YouTube! The video showcases the band doing what they do best, and that is performing LIVE. Check them out in front of a packed headlining set at Peabody’s in their hometown of Cleveland! Of course if you haven’t seen their groundbreaking music video for “Call To The Warrior” (650,000+ views), you need to watch it immediately!

Affiance have recently wrapped up US tours with Memphis May Fire, Close Your Eyes, Serianna, Modern Day Escape, The Color Morale, Stray From The Path, Vanna, This Or The Apocalypse and Deception Of A Ghost. They will be direct support to CHIMAIRA on December 29th at House Of Blues in Cleveland!

Brooklyn By Way of Brazil – NY Locals UNCONSCIOUS DISTURBANCE

In Pittsburgh 11/27!

For a better part of the past decade, Brooklyn, NY’s own UNCONSCIOUS DISTURBANCE has worked tirelessly to blaze a figurative trail of musical spectrum and complexity all the way from their beginnings in Sao Paulo, Brazil circa 1996. Big-city chaos fused with rhythmic instrumental lines is what generates the crushing and profound sonic experience that is UNCONSCIOUS DISTURBANCE.

These aspects and more are what set the band apart from the monotonous experimental music trends that the average fan and hipster music rag currently consider “influential” and “ground-breaking”. UD’s first major full-length release, Mind’s Corner, will undoubtedly be the first propellant in that discovery. Mind’s Corner is set to release on December 4, 2012 independently via the band and features eight dense and thought-provoking tracks.

To preview this release and spread the word, the band has scheduled several performances at select east coast venues. UD also plans to throw a record release party in Brooklyn, NY on December 6th at Trash Bar, as well as host a screening of their independently produced upcoming music video at an event dubbed “Crossing Boundaries”.
