THE OVERSEER to release sophomore album, Rest and Let Go

Arkansas hard rockers THE OVERSEER are announcing the release of their sophomore album, Rest and Let Go, available March 4via Solid State Records.

Rest and Let Go finds the band re-teaming with Matt McClellen at Glow in the Dark Studios, where they had recorded their 2012 debut, We Search, We Dig. The celebrated album drew praise from taste-makers such as Revolver, who characterized it as “heavily textured metalcore that balances brutality with beauty,” while Outburn declared, “THE OVERSEER has burst onto the scene with a head-turning and memorable debut.”

Much like the band itself, Rest and Let Go, is bursting with life. It’s a fearless, ferocious album that bubbles with urgency and vitality. It’s ironic, then, that the album centers so intensely on the polar opposite: Death. “It kinda creeps its way into everyone’s life at some point, and it found a way to creep into our record,” says guitarist/vocalist Darren King. “Death is such a big part of life and unfortunately we’ve had our fair share of dealing with it. I guess that’s just where a few of us were and are.”

Fans can get a first taste of the album today in the form of the tense album opener “Fragile Wings,” which is streaming for free. “’Fragile Wings’ is a song that really captures a lot of elements,” King explains. “It’s driving, but laid back. It’s heavy, but ambient. It’s dark, but has some presence of hope. She’s not sure what she wants to be, but it kinda works for her.”

“Fragile Wings” is also available as a free download for anyone who pre-orders the album.

THE OVERSEER spent much of the last two years on the road supporting We Search, We Dig and laying the groundwork for Rest and Let Go, including tours alongside AUGUST BURNS RED, OF MICE & MEN, IMPENDING DOOM, SHAI HULUD and more. But hitting the road hard is nothing new for the band, who cemented their road warrior status back in their days as an independent band, when they played 400 shows in their first two years together.

Now, as one of Solid State Records’ “new breed” of bands, THE OVERSEER are primed to make the transition from up-and-comers to lynchpins of a reinvigorated scene. Their goals, however, remain the same: “To just keep playing music and keep being honest with ourselves and our fans, grow our fan base and hopefully turn new people on to what we think is good music,” says King, adding with a laugh, “Oh, and become the biggest band in the world. Duh.”

Solid State Records labelmates FIT FOR A KING and THE OVERSEER are pleased to announce a co-headlining tour in the new year.

The rapidly emerging bands will hit the road this January and February, bringing their equally impressive live shows to fans on the West Coast, Midwest and Southwest.

“2012 was absolutely the best year in our band’s existence,” gushes OVERSEER bassist Bradley Riggs. “We got signed, put out our debut record and closed out the fall with an incredible full US tour with AUGUST BURNS RED. Looking forward to 2013, we’re all stoked to see what unfolds as we look to keep the momentum rolling!”

THE OVERSEER is touring in support of their 2012 debut, We Search, We Dig – a tour de force in melodic metal that garnered the Arkansas act praise from tastemaking publications. AUGUST BURNS RED stream ‘Flurries’

AUGUST BURNS RED are once again pleased to spread some pre-holiday cheer with the release of “Sleigh Ride,” the second new track from their upcoming Christmas album: August Burns Red presents: Sleddin’ Hill, A Holiday Album – in stores October 9th from Solid State Records.

Last month, the band gave fans a sneak peek at the album with “Flurries,” one of two original compositions on the album. After dazzling fans with what is sure to be a future holiday classic, ABR are now giving the world a taste of their crushing take on the traditional holiday songbook.

“’Sleigh Ride’ was the last song to come together for Sleddin’ Hill’ and one of the trickier songs to cover due to its crazy structure and various key changes,” says guitarist JB Brubaker. “The original song is all over the place and so is our version. ‘Sleigh Ride’ is a complete roller coaster – there is even a jazz section in the middle complete with horns. The end reminds me of a rock n roll dance party in the 1960s. I don’t know what else to say – you just have to listen to it.”

The 13-track Sleddin’ Hill features fresh takes on a variety of Christmas classics, such as “Jingle Bells,” “Winter Wonderland” and even “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.” The album also compiles remixed and remastered versions of the band’s previous holiday singles, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “Little Drummer Boy” coupled with an updated version of the band’s rendition of “Carol of the Bells,” heard in Frank Miller’s (300, Sin City) movie The Spirit and Seth MacFarlane’s (Family Guy) American Dad.

Sleddin’ Hill finds AUGUST BURNS RED at what might be their most ambitious and creative yet. It’s a work that enhances the guitar and drum mastery the band are known for by adding unexpected elements such as banjo, violin, cello, piano and even horns.
“Because this was such a different type of album, I was able to get a little more wild with my influences,” confesses Brubaker. “There’s a section inspired by one of my favorite bands, BEIRUT. There’s also guitar solo that is an ode to Blue Album-era WEEZER, and my punk roots are evident all over the album.”

AUGUST BURNS RED are currently in the midst of a five-week, 30-city North American tour with support from OF MICE & MEN, THE COLOR MORALE and labelmates THE OVERSEER, before heading back to Europe where they’ll hit 12 countries in four weeks.

Already among the most respected acts in the genre, AUGUST BURNS RED solidified their status further with the June 2011 release of their fourth studio album, Leveler, which rocketed to the top of the Billboard charts – debuting at #11 on the Billboard 200 in addition to entering the charts as the #1 Hard Rock album and #2 Rock album. Adding to the stellar debut is the incredible durability and staying power Leveler has displayed, having become the band’s fastest selling album to date by a large margin.

Following two albums that have topped 100,000 apiece in sales (2009’s Constellations and 2007’s Messengers), Leveler is on pace to set a new high-bar for AUGUST BURNS RED, adding commercial success to the critical praise the album has garnered from the likes of Alternative Press, Revolver, Rock Sound and dozens of other outlets. The album pushes the band’s sonic boundaries in every direction, yet emerges as an unquestionably heavier album than its predecessor. It’s a game-changer, for ABR, and for fans of hard rock everywhere.

THE OVERSEER premiere video for “Absolve”

Arkansas hard rockers THE OVERSEER have removed the veil from their brand new video for standout track “Absolve” – their second video off their debut album, We Search, We Dig, released earlier this summer on Solid State Records.

The lauded album has been praised by tastemakers like Revolver, who called the band’s music “heavily textured metalcore that balances brutality with beauty,” and Outburn, who trumpeted that “THE OVERSEER has burst onto the scene with a head turning and memorable debut.”

The video was shot live at the band’s hometown CD release show in July.

“The passion behind this song made a live setting perfect for the video,” says vocalist Anthony Rivera. “It was awesome to see so many kids singing along with me and seeing that the song’s lyrics mean as much to them as they do to me.”

The band is currently on the road in the midst of a five week, 30 city North American tour in support of labelmates AUGUST BURNS RED plus OF MICE & MEN and THE COLOR MORALE.

Released this past June, We Search, We Dig is a huge, dynamic debut that calls to mind artists like UNDER0ATH, THRICE and CAVE IN though with a clear, distinct voice that never emulates those artists directly. With this release, THE OVERSEER delivers hard-hitting, uncompromising hard rock that belies the members’ young age. This isn’t “cash in on the latest trend” music, it’s “sweat and tears” hard rock, with a little blood thrown in for good measure.

THE OVERSEER premiere video for ‘Amend’

With a week to go until the release of We Search, We Dig, Arkansas hard rockers THE OVERSEER are premiering their new video for “Amend” – one of the standout tracks from their dynamic debut, available in stores and online June 19th from Solid State Records.

The video, directed by UNDER0ATH’s Daniel Davidson (ISTHMUS Studios), puts stunning visuals alongside the standout track. Since premiering last month, “Amend” has generated an online buzz for the band’s ability to mix soaring melody with blistering riffs and package that into compact songs that feel neither redundant nor self-indulgent.

Watch ‘Amend’:

“I have mixed emotions about shooting this music video,” says drummer Abishai Collingsworth. “It was one of the most fun yet exhausting days I’ve ever been through. Make no mistake – playing through a song 100 or so times can wear you out! But we endured it and are really pleased with the results. Daniel Davidson was really easy to work with and I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed if we worked with him again!”

Recorded earlier this year at Atlanta’s Glow In The Dark studios, We Search, We Dig is a huge, dynamic debut that calls to mind artists like UNDER0ATH, THRICE and CAVE IN though with a clear, distinct voice that never emulates those artists directly. With this release, THE OVERSEER delivers hard-hitting, uncompromising hard rock that belies the members’ young age. This isn’t “cash in on the latest trend” music, it’s “sweat and tears” hard rock, with a little blood thrown in for good measure.

Now, with the album’s release around the corner, THE OVERSEER has gone back to doing the OTHER thing they do best: Tour, tour and tour, taking their music and their spiritually-minded message to eager fans. In support of the album, the band will hit the road this June and July as part of the More Than Sound tour, headlined by WAR OF AGES.

With the release of We Search, We Dig, THE OVERSEER is firmly planting their flag as a future genre frontrunner.

THE OVERSEER Premiere New Song ‘Amend’

Surging hard rock outfit THE OVERSEER are officially starting the countdown to the June 19th release of their debut album We Search, We Dig with the unveiling of the track “Amend.” The standout track showcases the kind of dynamics that THE OVERSEER brings to the table on We Search – melodies both soaring and soft, coupled seamlessly with a caterwaul of unhinged heaviness. “‘Amend’ is probably our collective favorite song,” says bassist Bradley Riggs. “It shows the softer melodic side of the record, but also demonstrates the heavy, slightly chaotic side as well.”

Listen to ‘Amend’:

In addition to giving fans a taste of the new album, THE OVERSEER are giving fans a look behind the curtain at the recording process of We Search, We Dig with several video blogs from the studio. The recently released first installment takes a look at the band recording drum tracks with producer Matt McCllellan.
