With its members collectively hailing from a varied range of metal, punk, hip hop, and psych scenes,DETHBEDS marries this diversification with explosive fury; the result is a relentlessly energetic attack heavily influenced by the likes of Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Refused, Botch, and more. Offers the band alongside the release of their debut record’s title track, “The most recently written song on the album, ‘Dungeon Scum’ provides contrast from our overall punk ethos to a more punishing and sophisticated writing style that reflects our combined influences.”

Most of Dungeon Scum was written in Michigan, before the band was a fully realized project. Following their migration to Chicago, the band fine-tuned the tracks and recorded the album with Adam Stilson at Decade Music Studios, located inside of DIY music venue The Observatory, after which it was mastered by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room, and completed with cover art by Tom Jenkins at Black Eagle Press.

A newly-formed outfit, DETHBEDS unites a host of influence from a wide array of musical backgrounds, resulting in a volatile concoction of angular metallic, punk-fueled hardcore. Formed in Owosso, Michigan, the band recently finalized a new lineup and located to Chicago, a city in which they had communed and performed together with their prior acts. Collectively hailing from a varied range of experiences within Midwest metal, punk, hip hop, and psych scenes, DETHBEDS marries this diversified collective’s most explosive tactics into a relentlessly energetic, spastic brew of music heavily influenced yet far from limited to the output of influential acts like Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Refused, Botch, and others. Most of Dungeon Scum was written in Michigan, before the band was a fully realized project. Following their migration to Chicago, the band fine-tuned the tracks and recorded the album with Adam Stilson at Decade Music Studios, an amazing studio actually located inside of a DIY music venue called The Observatory, after which the album was mastered by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room, and completed with cover art by Tom Jenkins at Black Eagle Press. The record’s seven-track attack takes place within a seventeen-minute spread, resulting in a rabid, explosive delivery.

THE OCEAN Prepares For Summer Slaughter

Progressive sound contortionists THE OCEAN will return to North America as part of the seventh annual Summer Slaughter Tour later this month. Presented by Indie Merch Store, ESP and Guitar World, the band level stages nightly alongside the likes of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Norma Jean, Cattle Decapitation, Revocation, Aeon and more. Following their Stateside takeover, THE OCEAN will play select shows throughout Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and Russia with an additional European sprint in the Fall to be announced in the coming weeks.

Comments guitarist Robin Staps,“We’re stoked to get out on the road again! When I started this band 12 years ago, I would have never expected that it would eventually become possible for us one day, to play shows in Sichuan, China, or near the Baikal Lake in Siberia. These will be our first shows ever in Mexico and Taiwan, too. Good times ahead, see you people out there on one of these continents tasting your local beer and food!”

In the meantime, check out a clip of vocalist Loïc Rossetti performing with Dillinger in 2010HERE.

THE OCEAN will be touring in support of Pelagial, their critically lauded, maritime-themed studio offering, which entered the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at #10 upon its first week of release!

Their most profound work to date, Pelagial is a 53-minute exploratory composition written, recorded, mixed and intended to-be-performed-live as one single piece of music. Centered around all five pelagic depth zones — epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic – Pelagial purposefully submerges its listeners into an aquatic journey that is at once tranquil and terrifying. Pelagial begins rather light and becomes progressively heavier and slower as the band reaches the unfathomable depths of the hadopelagic zone, characterized by complete darkness and a thousandfold increased pressure as compared to surface level. Said Decibel Magazine, “Where the band was once steeped in sludgy noise/metalcore with orchestral interludes, they’ve become more luxurious, experimental and textural. Pelagial…further continues that shift, working on multi-tiered levels and drawing from DEP-inspired chaos, Opeth-like moods and Between The Buried And Me genre fiddling. It’s an album that strives to be all things at once without crossing into a ‘look-at-me’ mess.”

***THE OCEAN headlining shows

“The sixth album from German post-metal doombringers THE OCEAN is huge… In the course of the record, tender piano interludes get stomped on by Mastodon-shaped footprints, lush strings work next to bulldozing double-kick work, and, at the end, the submarine crashes at Melvins tempos.” – Spin

“…a hallmark album for a gifted team of artisans…Pelagial is one of the most invested albums THE OCEAN has yet conceived. Prepare to be not only submerged but actually touched by this album.” — Blabbermouth

“Pelagial is brilliantly written, expertly executed and filled with the kind of songwriting most bands can only dream of.” – Crave Online

“Pelagial resonates so deeply because its sonic continuity is matched with shifting, unified composition. The album viscerally depicts the spectrum of submersion while highlighting the musicians’ versatility and cohesion. The band has never written more intriguing music, and THE OCEAN COLLECTIVEhas never been a more apt name.” – MetalSucks

“…a journey within itself…” — Metal Insider

“…destined to be one of the year’s best releases.” – Echoes And Dust

“Creating music with a real meaning cannot be taken as a hobby. Either you put everything into it and make your message known or you don’t. Their correlation between diving deeper into the ocean and diving into the inner workings of the human mind is astounding…you would be a complete fool to not pick up this true work of art.” – New Noise Magazine

Dillinger Escape Plan Pulverize Pittsburgh’s Altar Bar 4/25/13

I’ll just come right out and admit it.  I was a DEP virgin before last Thursday.  Hard to believe that even though I have been a fan for around a decade that I never did get a chance to see one of the most enigmatic bands on the prog/mathcore metal scene ever.  The band that I first became curious about after seeing a picture of Greg Puciato diving from an absurd height above the stage into the crowd.  The band that hit me to the core with their music, bruising my guts, and tripping my mind out lyrically at the same instant.  The band that totally stood me on my head when they released “Plagiarism”, an EP of four covers and two originals  that ranged from Soundgarden’s ‘Jesus Christ Pose’ (daring, ambitious, and ballsy) to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Like I Love You’ (holy shit…you can do that?).

Dillinger Escape Plan has been around since 1999 in various configurations, but it really was not until 2001 when Greg Puciato came on board when the ball started to truly roll.  By 2004 Greg was solidified and DEP were making music history.  Their performances are legendary.  So, it was with great expectations that I came to Pittsburgh’s Altar Bar last Thursday.  DEP did not disappoint   Neither did the Steel City crowd.  After being battered and bruised in the pit for the first three tunes, including the new ‘Prancer’, I took a step back to recover and also marvel in the participation that Greg took the crowd into and the wild swinging guitar antics that Ben Weinman flew into while the rest of the band held it down.  It was all I was hoping for and more.  I literally dropped my jaw in awe.  many moments when I should have been taking photos I had to just take it all in and let my mind wrap around the scene before me.  The beautiful, chaotic, carnal, harmonious yet disjointed attack of sound and sight that split and turned and folded back into itself like hell candy for your ears was priceless.

The first SS tour was the best US tour we’ve ever done and we look forward to helping devastate the states with our take on brutal, grinding death and playing the choicest slabs from our latest album Monolith of Inhumanity. PIG DESTROYER Release Never Before Heard EP

Grindcore Masters PIG DESTROYER have released a never before heard EP entitled Mass &Volume. This EP is dedicated to the memory of Pat Egan and to the loving family he left behind. The EP is a Doom EP and the artwork was created by Arik Roper. The EP is available for purchase at http://patlapse.bandcamp.com/album/mass-volume. This is the only format that this EP is available in and all proceeds of this recording will be donated to the college fund of Pat Egan’s daughter Katie.

The band spoke about Pat and the EP release:

“Pat Egan was a friend and a keystone member of the Relapse family for many of the years we have been involved with it. He devoted his life to supporting underground music and he immeasurably helped develop the bands he worked with. His untimely passing on February 18 2013 shocked the many people that his life and work had touched.”

This EP was written and recorded during the final day of the Phantom Limb sessions with unexpected extra studio time and resources. In the following years, with Natasha being released on its own and Brian no longer being in the band, our intentions of releasing Mass & Volume basically evaporated. However, looking back now, Mass & Volume serves as a great epilogue to that particular era of the band.

Less than 2 weeks ago Relapse Records released “Patlapse” in honor of the man who was so instrumental in the success of so many Relapse bands and records, the label has put together a 20 track compilation featuring a collection of his favorite songs and artists, including Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Brian Posehn, Red Fang, Death, and many more, including a never-before-released track from Exhumed.

100% of proceeds from the compilation will go towards a college fund for his young daughter Katie.  Relapse thanks each band for contributing each track and waiving their royalty fee to maximize the benefit for Pat’s beloved family.  The compilation is available via Bandcamp at this location for only $5 but friends and fans are welcome to donate as much as they want. Direct contributions may also be made via paypal towellmissyoupat@relapse.com.

A memorial event for Pat has been scheduled for Tuesday March 5th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM EST at Idle Hands Bar in New York, NY. Everyone is invited to attend as we pay tribute to a dear friend, colleague & family man who left behind an amazing wife and a wonderful daughter. All proceeds from the event will go directly to his daughter Katie’s college fund. More information on the event can be found HERE.

Interview with Bob Meadows of A Life Once Lost (In Pittsburgh at Garfield Art Works 12/14)

A LIFE ONCE LOST roars into Pittsburgh at the Garfield Art Works next Friday, December 14 with Revocation and Ken Mode. Bob Meadows, lead vocals, took some time to speak to Pittsburgh Music Magazine about the frustrations of the music business, playing Pittsburgh, taking and giving vocal lessons, their new release “Ecstatic Trance”, and the inspiration for the lyrics behind “Madness is God”, check it out by listening here…

A LIFE ONCE LOST has existed on the forward edge of modern metal, where progression and innovation collide with tradition, since its inception. From day one, the path the ALOL have blazed has not only been defiant but also their own.
A LIFE ONCE LOST was formed in ’99 in the Philadelphia suburbs by Doug Sabolick (guitars) and Bob Meadows (vocals). The nascent band immediately forged a noisy, high-impact wall of sound combining dissonant, modern aggression with the hallmarks of traditional metal. Almost as soon as ALOL had songs, the band started cutting their teeth in the Philly-area DIY circuit playing alongside their peers in Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Lamb of God, God Forbid, and more.
Early releases followed on Deathwish, Inc. and Robotic Empire, and ramped up to 03’s punishing ‘A Great Artist’, their first proper full-length. ‘A Great Artist’ saw them take hold of their dark, rhythmic sound and took A LIFE ONCE LOST from a Northeast favorite to a true national band. It was the catalyst that enabled them to get signed to Ferret Records and to then embark on their first national tour(s) alongside Between the Buried & Me among others.
Then ALOL released its’ sophomore album, the more refined ‘Hunter’, in ‘05 and moved to the forefront of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. The band conquered America for the next 2 years touring as part of Ozzfest 2006, as well as direct support tours alongside Lamb of God, Clutch, Opeth, Strapping Young Lad, As I Lay Dying, Every Time I Die, High on Fire and more.
Their 3rd album ‘Iron Gag’, released in ’07, saw significant critical acclaim. That album had ALOL introducing traditional rock grooves and a more confident swagger into their already-explosive sound. The ensuing ‘Iron Gag’ tour saw the band crisscross North America and Europe, from Alaska to Mexico and London to Moscow respectively, once again alongside High on Fire; The Dillinger Escape Plan + new tour mates, Suicide Silence, and Job for a Cowboy.

At the end of the ‘Iron Gag’ World Tour in ‘09, they begin practicing again only to find fractures in the band. After a year plus of writing, Sabolick and Meadows were faced with their most difficult decisions yet. In order to realize their vision for the next evolution of A LIFE ONCE LOST, they needed to scrap almost all of the new material; cut ties with the other members, and start again on their own.

ALOL’s process was arduous, and required Bob Meadows and Doug Sabolick to rebuild everything from the ground back up. The writing process was intense while the two tried to meld a diverse range of influences – Killing Joke to Can, King Crimson to Kraftwerk, Fela Kuti and more – while respecting and remaining true to the sonic art that they had always traveled.

Three years in the making, A LIFE ONCE LOST’s new album ‘Ecstatic Trance’ (Season of Mist), is the product of that unwavering determination and raises their patented rhythmic attack to hypnotic new levels of precision and expression. Huge, jagged riffs and churning, syncopated rhythms are the blueprint for the emotive guitar-playing and explosive vocals of Sabolick and Meadows respectively. Dark washes of melody and ominous Hammond Organ tones color epic tracks such as “Madness Is God, “Something Awful”, and “The Blues”, giving their material a bold, raw sense of expression unlike any they’ve shown before. ‘Ecstatic Trance’ is one of 2012’s best metal albums, and proves that the path of A LIFE ONCE LOST is always moving forward.
