Third Annual Decibel Magazine Tour Lineup and Dates Announced/PGH Stage AE Apr 7, 2014

CarcassThe Black Dahlia MurderGorguts and Noisem headline renowned metal mag’s latest national tour this March

With two triumphant star-studded national tours under our bullet belt, Decibel Magazine is raising the (bloody) stakes on our hotly anticipated third cross-country domination. This spring, we’re proud to bring you the reanimation of death metal demigods Carcass alongside melodeath powerhouse The Black Dahlia Murder, technical death metal heroes Gorguts and emerging death/thrash squad Noisem.

The third time’s the harm, as Carcass—the Liverpool legends responsible for Surgical Steel, our number one album of 2013—embark upon their first sustained domestic tour in five years. Presented by Nuclear Blast, Peavey, Metal Blade, IndieMerchstore.com, Season of Mist and Lace Music, the 2014 Decibel Magazine Tour will fester across North America for 21 putrefying dates, once again seamlessly integrating the past, present and future of extreme music.

Ever-acerbic Carcass frontman Jeff Walker finds it difficult to contain his enthusiasm. “This is possibly the unsexiest Decibel Tour lineup yet,” he quips. “We’re all bringing the ‘girth’ back to the U.S., along with gray hair and sensible footwear. But it’s the music that matters, right? Just close your eyes and think of England. If that fails, think of Tampa.”

Black Dahlia Murder frontman Trevor Strand is a longtime Carcass superfan, so much so that he has the coolest tattoo ever: surgical instruments from the cover of the 1992 Tools of the Trade EP: “We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this amazing tour. I will do my best to play it cool in the presence of such great and influential musicians who I have worshipped since the seventh grade—but I can’t guarantee anything. We in the Dahlia camp are elated to have been considered, and vow to do our best to impress. Nothing less for the combined might of Carcass and Gorguts!”

Luc Lemay of Canadian technical death metal institution Gorguts can’t wait to bring songs from 2013 comeback sensation Colored Sands to the stage. “Since the first day I discovered Decibel, I always saw them like an institution,” he enthuses. “So, when I got the news that we were offered to be part of their annual tour, I felt totally honored and excited as hell! It will be amazing to share the stage with Carcass, the Black Dahlia Murder and Noisem to perform our new music every night!”

As for Baltimore death-thrash upstarts Noisem—who blew minds with brutal-beyond-their-years debut Agony Defined—guitarist Sebastian Phillips keeps his thoughts on the tour perfectly succinct: “Dream come true. Period.”

We know you can’t wait for these symphonies of sickness to be conducted either, so here’s your chance to score a great deal AND avoid standing in line. There will be a number of VIP premium packages available in each market, providing you with a T-shirt, poster, “Skip the Line” pass and free digital sampler from Nuclear Blast. The price of this package is less than you would spend on a ticket and a tour shirt at the show! More details, including ticket info, are announced at www.decibelmagazinetour.com. Pre-Sale tickets are available now athttp://www.showstubs.com/decibel.

SKELETONWITCH: “Unfit” For Disney, But Fit For A Wedding

Fresh off a short run of dates supporting Ghost B.C., Athens, Ohio-based blackened metal quintet,SKELETONWITCH, has announced a hometown release party for their forthcoming new full-length,Serpents Unleashed. The show will take place at The Union (18 W. Union St., Athens) on October 23rd, the eve of the kickoff to their extensive North American fall tour with The Black Dahlia Murder. Tickets for the event are just $10.

The Black Dahlia tour will be swiftly followed by another lap around America in early 2014 alongside Amon Amarth and Enslaved. Unfortunately for fans in Orlando however, where the tour stops onJanuary 27th, SKELETONWITCH will not be allowed to perform at the local House of Blues, as the group has joined the likes of Exodus, Machine Head and others deemed “unfit to be associated with” Disney, on whose property the venue is located.

Although SKELETONWITCH might be unwelcomed at the Magic Kingdom, a California couple has asked the band to make their dreams come true. During SKELETONWITCH‘s performance in Fresno on November 15th, longtime fans Travis Bartlett and Lanae Forrest will get married on stage — making local venue Strummer’s their own happiest place on Earth. Says groom-to-be Bartlett, “Lanae and I are taken aback and beyond elated that SKELETONWITCH are willing to be a part of the most important day of our lives. There really aren’t words to show our appreciation for the band being with us as we begin our lives together.”

Commemorating the group’s 10-year anniversary, Serpents Unleashed — recorded earlier this year with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Isis, High on Fire), and featuring artwork by John Baizley (Baroness, Kylesa, Kvelertak) – will be unleashed in North America on October 29th, in Australia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland on October 25th and in the UK and the rest of Europe on October 28th. Serpents Unleashed is available for preorder at SKELETONWITCH.com in CD, LP, cassette, digital download and limited edition 7-inch collector’s box formats. In addition, you can now pre-order the album digitally at iTunes and BandCamp and receive an instant download of “I Am Of Death (Hell Has Arrived).”

See for yourself whether SKELETONWITCH are “unfit to be associated with” at one of their dates below.

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER Releases “Into The Everblack” Performance Demo Video

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER are currently leveling stages as part of this year’s Van’s Warped Tour. At the Ventura, California stop of the trek, Brian Eschbach, Ryan Knight, Max Lavelle, and Alan Cassidy, recorded their parts for “Into the Everblack” from the band’s new album, Everblack. The performance is streaming now at metalblade.com/bdm. Additionally, videos for each individual performance have been posted at youtube.com/blackdahliamurdertv.

Audio Hammer producer Mark Lewis comments specifically on Knight’s leads on “Everblack” stating, “Ryan Knight’s leads on ‘Everblack’ are nothing short of phenomenal. I grew up listening to the best in the era of shred, and I can honestly say these solos rank up there with the best, and beyond. They are not just technical solos in the athletic, ‘look how fast I can play’ sense; there is truly amazing harmonic content going in these leads. Any educated player will realize that the chord changes he is playing over are far more complex than anything you typically find in metal. Mix all that with absolutely world class tone and vibrato, and you really have an amazing piece of work. It does not get better than this.”

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER’s new music video for “Goat of Departure” was also recently made available, and be seen on youtube HERE. The video, directed by Ben Mayer, was filmed in the band’s hometown of Detroit last month. In typical TBDMfashion, it is over-the-top and even features the return of a classic TBDM character, and a real, live goat.

‘Omen of Disease,’ featuring guest appearance by THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER’s Trevor Strnad

BROKEN HOPE has finished all recording work on their 6th studio album, Omen of Disease, and one of the many surprises that this album offers is a special guest appearance by Trevor Strnad of THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER on the new BROKEN HOPE track, “Rendered Into Lard.”

Trevor Strnad comments:

“I am beyond excited to be involved in the rebirth of this legendary Death Metal monster. BROKEN HOPE has been one of my favorite bands since I was a young metalhead, it’s an absolute honor and pleasure to be a small piece of the action! The best part is that my contribution allowed me to hear a new song before everyone else, and I can proudly say this: They’re baaaacccckkk!!!!”

BROKEN HOPE has also tapped James Murphy (DEATH, OBITUARY, TESTAMENT, etc.) to mix and master Omen of Disease at Murphy’s studio, Safehouse Production.

BROKEN HOPE’s Shaun Glass comments:

“Were pretty pumped to have long time friend and shred lord James Murphy on board for his über-sick mixing skills to complete the ‘Omen of Disease’ sessions. He has been part of BH history as he first appeared on our ‘Repulsive Conception’ album with a crushing guest solo…and now years later, Murphy will be on board to taking our finest works yet to a new level.”

Omen of Disease was recorded between two studios: drums were exclusively recorded at Belle City Sound in Racine, WI with engineer Chris Wisco (LAZARUS A.D., JUNGLE ROT, ORIGIN, GORGASM), and the remaining bulk of the album was completed at Mercenary Digital Studios in Zion, IL with engineer Scott Creekmore (BROKEN HOPE, DIRGE WITHIN, LIVIDITY). Omen of Disease is slated for a worldwide release in late summer 2013 via Century Media Records. BEYOND DISHONOR Release New ‘Breaking Bad’ Inspired Music Video for ‘Heisenberg’

image001 (3)

Featured in NJ’s The Aquarian Weekly as this Week’s Local “Buzz” Band – Read Here

*BEYOND DISHONOR is looking for management, label and booking agent interest. To inquire, please contact booking@beyonddishonor.com.*

Trenton, New Jersey metalcore mainstays BEYOND DISHONOR have released a music video for their first single, entitled ‘Heisenberg’, today via their official YouTube channel. Watch here –http://youtu.be/BLRfAGgK23Y. Any fan of the hit television drama ‘Breaking Bad’ will immediately recognize that ‘Heisenberg’ is a tribute to the popular show— complete with yellow meth lab suits, greasy cigar-smoking drug kingpins, shady factory laboratories galore and more. ‘Heisenberg’ is cut from the band’s upcoming EP Generations, set to drop in June 2013.

“It’s an obvious homage to one of our favorite pieces of entertainment, but it is wrapped around a stronger metaphor – just as Walt perfects the formula against his better judgement, so too are we forced to find and perfect the formula for notice and respect in this tumultuous industry and genre,” states lead vocalist Reese Dunlap. “That theme is referenced throughout the song, and goes one step further in the video, where we are, in a sense, a victim of this formulaic control. It is only when we have ‘perfected the formula’ that we can finally escape mediocrity.”

Breaking free of the norm is exactly what BEYOND DISHONOR plans to do with their new EP Generations, which boasts production credits from acclaimed producer Andreas Magnusson, known for his work with The Black Dahlia MurderImpending DoomThis or The Apocalypse and more. The five-piece combines eclectic styles and ranging influences to create music that is devastatingly heavy and aggressive enough for the most hardcore of fans, yet rhythmic and groovy enough to be accessible to those on the fringe. In a recent write-up, Heavyblogisheavy.com said, “The music lands on the good side of the contemporary metalcore/deathcore spectrum, for fans of early Born of Osiris (sans keyboards) or Within the Ruins.”

Drawing inspiration from pop culture, primarily in the form of movies, television and gaming, is one of countless ways BEYOND DISHONOR has garnered fans in the local and national metal scene since they formed in late 2006. Their 2011 full-length, Travesty, is a well-received concept album drawing from band favorites Se7en, Ghostbusters and Full Metal Jacket. In similar fashion, Generations features pop culture references evident in song titles like ‘ED209 vs. The Staircase’ (RoboCop) and ‘What Clayton Bigsby Doesn’t Know’ (Chappelle’s Show).

In the state of New Jersey and even nationally, BEYOND DISHONOR asserts one of the strongest DIY success stories in a very challenging genre. The band churns out a staggering 70+ self-funded shows a year— without any label, booking agency, or management assistance. BEYOND DISHONOR is pushing 5,000+ fans on their official Facebook page and 10,000+ on Twitter— essentially commanding the attention of East coast metal fans with each and every post. Much of their success stems from the overwhelming support and praise provided by the many nationally-recognized artists they have supported, including Unearth, Chimaira, August Burns Red, Attack Attack, All Shall Perish, Winds of Plague, Born of Osiris, Suffocation, Emmure, and numerous others.

This past February, BEYOND DISHONOR won the Trenton, NJ date of the Sumerian Records “Headband for the Highway” competition, which was a touring “battle of the bands”-style performance competition in which bands from each market were chosen to perform on a large summer festival date. As the winner, the band was selected to perform on a local date of the All Stars Tour (this year featuring Every Time I DieChelsea GrinVeil of Maya and more). Specifics regarding this performance are set to be announced soon.

BEYOND DISHONOR will head out on a 13-date east coast trek beginning April 12th. Several dates include performances with internationally-recognized artists such as Miss May I, Whitechapel, Texas in July and more, plus a stop at the annual Launch Music Conference in Lancaster, PA. Vocalist Trevor Strnad elaborates on the lyrical concepts: “The opening track is the first actual song we’ve done about the Black Dahlia. This one is for the fans… they’ve been asking for this to happen for a long time. The story takes place at the Elizabeth Short’s rain drenched funeral, where her killer in attendance… just one of the many macabre tales woven into the fabric of Everblack. Subterranean flesh-farming vampires, vine rape, Jeffery Dahmer, amputation… it’s all here! With this sixth slab of sickness I tried my best to honor the band’s legacy and write lyrics that will keep the legions of horror fiends perspiring with fear.”

The debut single, Into the Everblack, is streaming now on metalblade.com/bdm.

Also available at metalblade.com/bdm are a variety of limited edition pre-order bundles. Fans can grab Everblack on a triple gatefold double LP with purple/white marbled vinyl, along with “crime scene bundles.” An evidence pack, which includes toe tags, deceased band member photos, spent shotgun shells, and more can be viewed now. Machine Head’s Rob Flynn Injured & Cancel 9 Shows

On the day of their double live CD ‘Machine Fucking Head Live’, The Machine Head saga continues…
After all the troubles with Disney banning them from House of Blues, Rob Flynn has to have emergency surgery to deal with a double inguinal hernia that has become the source of tremendous pain for the frontman.

Machine Head released a statement on their website:

“Machine Head must exit their current North American tour with Dethklok, All That Remains and Black Dahlia Murder due to matters completely beyond their control. Frontman Robb Flynn must have emergency surgery. Flynn had planned to go under the knife in January after completing the tour as he has been playing through the pain of a double inguinal hernia since the tour started in October. He had hoped to continue the tour despite extreme discomfort, but it’s become too difficult to continue on. Flynn will undergo surgery tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 14 in Minneapolis before returning home to California to recover, rest and recuperate. Machine Head will rejoin the tour in Portland, OR. Machine Head extends its regrets to fans, the other bands, and the other crews for having to leave the tour prematurely”.

Flynn stated, “I’ve been toughing out an inguinal hernia below my waistline since June of last year, and a few months ago got a second hernia in my nuts. What basically happens is my guts drop into my nuts, and it looks like I have a third testicle (man, I can hear the jokes already!) It hasn’t been that painful, and I’ve gone to the doctor a few times to take care of it, but he said after surgery I probably couldn’t sing for a few weeks, and since that wasn’t going to happen, I scheduled it for January when I had a break. Unfortunately, after the last few shows, my guts have been very swollen and hard to push back in. Yesterday, the pain was excruciating and I went to the emergency room last night. They said that I need surgery. I will be doing my damnedest to rejoin the tour in a couple weeks. Thanks to all the fans, bands, and crew for understanding. I’m determined to see you all soon and finish what has been a great freakin tour!”

The tour is scheduled to run through Dec. 14.

Even Disney Can’t Stop Machine Head in Pittsburgh

Lead singer and guitar player for Machine Head, Rob Flynn, did not hesitate a moment to give Disney a big “F. You” in Pittsburgh the other night, but he did even more so by giving the ‘Burgh the show of their lives. And Pittsburgh responded.
With full onslaught MH hit the audience hard with songs as far back as from 94’s Burn My Eyes, the masterpieces from 07’s ‘The Blackening’ and everything in-between up to the instant classic recent ‘Unto the Locust’. All this in one night with Dethklok, All That Remains, and Black Dahlia Murder was one hell of a metalheads dream line-up. And with a line-up like this, Disney bans Machine Head from House of Blues locations they own because of “violent imagery, inflammatory lyrics, and undesireable fans”?! Some corporations just don’t get it when it comes to metal. We metalheads stick together, are family, loyal to a fault, and spend all of our money on things we love. Does not sound so undesirable to PMM.
Rob Flynn, Phil Demmel, Adam Duce, and Dave McClain were insanely good in Pittsburgh at Stage AE and delivered a set that may prove one of the best of 2012.

Machine Head’s new live album “Machine Fucking Head Live” will be released on November 13th, and right now you can pre-order the 2-CD release or the Digital Special Edition (featuring 4 bonus tracks) and receive a free, immediate download of the 6-track “B-Sides & Rarities” digital EP. Do it. If nothing else to just send a message to Disney. And while they are at it, give us our Star Wars back!

Black Dahlia Murder: A Pittsburgh Pictorial

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The Black Dahlia Murder derived their name from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, and in Pittsburgh the absolutely killed. With influences ranging from Carcass, At the Gates, Darkane, Dissection, Darkthrone, Morbid Angel, The Haunted, In Flames, Dimension Zero, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Pantera and Megadeth- the band has an interesting mix of very hardcore genres.

Mainly sticking to the genres of melodic death metal, metalcore, and deathcore, when asked to describe what kind of music the band plays, Strnad commented: “I’ve always said that we’re melodic death metal. We are mostly influenced by Swedish bands and Carcass. The heavy end of our sound is the American style creeping in, with some Floridian influences like Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation and that kind of stuff. We’ve been labeled more often because of our look than our sound, which is dumb, and speaks volumes about what kind of geniuses are out there!”. In an interview with Uranium Magazine, Strnad also stated, “Some bands that get labeled as metalcore are actually good, like Between the Buried and Me or The Red Chord. Metal is what I grew up with, and then I learned about punk and hardcore. But a lot of our ethics, the way we carry ourselves, is more punk…I like that hardcore has a sense of community without the competition you see in metal.”

The only disappointment for many of the Pittsburgh fans was the “early” start of BDM. Most shows at Stage AE start about an hour after doors open, but BDM went on pretty early (6:30) causing many to miss part or all of their set.

Black Dahlia Murder Drummer Confirms Leaving Band

He confirms that he is no longer going to be drumming for The Black Dahlia Murder, and that he even had a hand in picking Alan Cassidy, who is not the band’s new drummer, but rather just a temporary replacement.
He will be focusing his effort on other projects, including finally tracking drums in January on that highly anticipated collaboration with Adam D. from Killswitch Engage and George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher, that we are really excited about. He also has a grind project in the works.
Finally, he said he’s planning on opening a tattoo shop outside of Richmond, VA with his wife.

BROKEN HOPE Reunite on the Carnival of Death Tour

After 12 years, a sleeping death-metal monster praised by the likes of Slipknot, DevilDriver, The Black Dahlia Murder, Dying Fetus, Job For a Cowboy and more, has awoken from the bowels of Chicago. BROKEN HOPE is thrilled to announce not only their highly-anticipated comeback, but also their direct support position on the upcoming Carnival of Death tour, brought to you by Rock the Nation and sponsored by Fender. The new tour features headliners Obituary, as well as additional support from Decrepit Birth, Jungle Rot, and Encrust. Tour dates are scheduled to be announced very soon.

In a recent statement, BROKEN HOPE guitarists Jeremy Wagner and Shaun Glass stated, “For over a decade, we’ve listened to fans worldwide who’ve asked us to return. We’ve listened to our peers in bands who seen us at shows and said, “when is Broken Hope coming back?” Well, you have finally been heard, and frankly, we just miss it too goddamn much—the clubs, the metal, but especially you: the diehards, the most.

“We decided as a first step to return back to the place that always felt like home: the road! So we are proud to announce that this fall, BROKEN HOPE will join forces with OBITUARY and join the Carnival Of Death tour! This tour will solidify that extreme music is still alive and well, we are ready, focused, and hungry to show you what we have in stored for you all! Moreover, we cherish and promote the legacy of our fallen brother, vocalist Joe Ptacek, as we travel from show to show and honor him, he will not be forgotten. With this being said, we would like to introduce Damian Leski of Gorgasm on vocal duties, who will handle the tough task for the upcoming tours. Be ready to be “Swamped in Gore”!!!!”

BROKEN HOPE was formed in 1988 by guitarist/chief-lyricist, Jeremy Wagner, while he was in high school. In 1991, after releasing two demo tapes, BROKEN HOPE secured a recording contract with an independent record label which released Swamped In Gore worldwide. Swamped In Gore was the first death-metal album to ever be recorded digitally. By 1993, BROKEN HOPE quickly signed to Metal Blade Records and released four albums: The Bowels of Repugnance, Repulsive Conception, Loathing, and the Metal Blade re-release of Swamped In Gore. The band’s third album, 1995’s Repulsive Conception, reached CMJ New Music Monthly’s Metal Top 25 chart, as did the follow-up, 1997’s Loathing.

The first four albums during the Metal Blade years are great examples of BROKEN HOPE’s original fury and they are the albums that etched BROKEN HOPE’S place in death-metal history. The first ten years of BROKEN HOPE’s existence were filled with non-stop writing, touring, and constant visibility with these albums. By the end of the ‘90’s, BROKEN HOPE parted ways with Metal Blade and went through lineup changes. The band produced one last album before the decade closed, the 1999 release, Grotesque Blessings. After North American and European tours for the album and a few unsatisfactory line-up changes, the band went on hiatus in 2000.

On January 20, 2010, original BROKEN HOPE vocalist Joe Ptacek committed suicide. Before his death, Ptacek met with Jeremy Wagner and Shaun Glass to discuss the resurrection of BROKEN HOPE. A plan was in motion with these three members to make the band a functioning reality. After taking some time off after Ptacek’s death to reconsider their next moves, BROKEN HOPE signed with Hard Impact Management and Booking with the intention to make the band a full-time monster again. Now, BROKEN HOPE continues onward with main songwriters Jeremy Wagner and Shaun Glass keeping the beast alive…brutal as ever…and with live tour dates worldwide.

Hopefully the Carnival of Death Tour will come our way in Pittsburgh…we will keep you posted with dates as soon as they are released.
