Mark Lanegan Band Announce “Still Life With Roses” Remix EP Out September 29th on Heavenly Recordings

Mark Lanegan Band Announce Still Life With Roses Remix EP, Out September 29th Via Heavenly Recordings
On US Tour in August
US Tour Dates
Following career-best reviews for his tenth album Gargoyle, and a sold–out UK tour in late June, MARK LANEGAN BAND today announce the release of Still Life With Roses, a 6 track EP of remixes from the LP by various producers whose work he admires. The EP, released 29th September via Heavenly Recordings, will be available as 12” vinyl and download and comprises a brilliant array of remixes by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Adrian Sherwood and Pye Corner Audio. The Adrian Sherwood remix of Nocturne is available an instant grat and streaming HERE, the track listing is further down the announcement:

Press acclaim for Gargoyle:

“Mark Lanegan makes blues for our time, chopping up sonic tropes, stretching them over handcarved laments, wrenching them from his throat and bleeding badly all over them.” -PASTE

“It features, as always, Lanegan’s smoky, whiskey-soaked baritone singing voice (if you’re unfamiliar, imagining a more soulful Leonard Cohen puts you in the ballpark), and it continues his ongoing explorations of synth music” -Dangerous Minds

“[It] is stunning not only for the music’s scintillating sheen, but also for Lanegan’s excellent performance. His gruff baritone has always been reminiscent of Leonard Cohen, but here he recalls the late great’s iridescent lyrics with a moribund romanticism.” – Stereogum

“The one constant has been Lanegan’s moody, melancholic soul-shaker of a voice.” –The A.V. Club

“Gargoyle is as confident and assured as anything Lanegan has released. It stands up alongside his best work and pushes his method in a few new directions, without trying to break from the paradigm” -Pop Matters

“Gargoyle has an early 80s UK electronic rock feel, with Lanegan’s rough vocal rasp sawing through musical timbres reminiscent of what was being played out at Manchester’s Factory.” – The WIRE

Still Life With Roses tracklist:
1. Nocturne (Adrian Sherwood remix)
2. Blue Blue Sea (Not Waving Remix)
3. Old Swan (Pye Corner Audio remix)
4. Beehive (Andrew Weatherall remix)

Frightened Rabbit’s fifth studio album “PAINTING OF A PANIC ATTACK” – produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner – enjoyed a Top 25 debut on the Soundscan/Billboard 200 chart upon its release last year, peaking at #2 on iTunes’ Alternative chart and #8 overall. The album’s lead single “Get Out” scored Top 10 success on FMQB’s Triple A chart, and garnered the band a pair of national television appearance, performing on CBS’ “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “Late Late Show with James Corden.”   The song’s emotionally provocative, companion video made its premiere on NPR’s All Songs Considered and received a raft of praise from influential sites, including Pitchfork, Stereogum, and Consequence of Sound, among others. The video – beautifully shot in Kiev –can be viewed at the band’s official YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/frightenedrabbit).

“PAINTING OF A PANIC ATTACK” follows 2013’s major label debut “PEDESTRIAN VERSE,” which earned a Top 10 debut in the UK as well as critical acclaim from a wide spectrum of American press, with praise coming from mainstream outlets like Rolling Stone and Time as well tastemaker blogs like Pitchfork and Stereogum.  The band’s emotionally charged live shows have earned a devoted fanbase, which includes bands like Death Cab For Cutie and The National – both of whom have handpicked Frightened Rabbit to support them on extensive tours.

THE OFFSPRING’S DEXTER HOLLAND RECEIVES PH.D IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

WHY I’M GETTING A PH.D. IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY
Hey everybody,
Dexter here. Well we’re gearing up for another busy year touring (and recording), and I can’t wait. In fact I’m actually writing this from our tour stop in Charlotte, NC before our show here this weekend. I know I haven’t posted much for awhile – cause I’ve been busy!
This is sort of an announcement that I completed my dissertation defense and that means that I’ll be graduating on May 11 with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Southern California.
You might ask, why are you getting a Ph.D.?  Well, pick the correct answer from the choices below!
A) I was bored
B) I like suffering
C) I am interested in the molecular dynamics of HIV infection and of virus:host interactions in general
No, the answer’s not all three!…actually, as many of you already know I started the Ph.D. a long time ago but put it on hold when we started touring a lot.  I finally went back a few years ago.To finish I had to research and write a thesis, or dissertation, which is kind of like the biggest term paper you’ll ever do (mine is about 175 pages).
My research focused on the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, the virus which causes AIDS.I am interested in virology and wanted to contribute in some small way to the knowledge which has been learned about HIV andAIDS.This terrible disease remains a worldwide epidemic – over 35 million people worldwide are currently infected and living with the HIV virus.Over one million people a year die from this disease.
My research is not meant to be a cure or even an immediate step toward a cure, but I believe that by adding to the vast amount of information that we’ve learned about HIV in the last 30 years or so, we’ll get there.Toward that end, I’m going to continue to do research, and you’ll probably see some of my research papers get published here and there over the next few years.
So, what does this all mean for the band?  It means…the BAND IS BACK ON!  Well, we never really stopped touring and making records, but we’ll be doing a bunch of shows all around the world this year plus recording new stuff every chance we get.  Look for new music by us out soon.
See you on the road! Dexter.
The foregoing was taken from a post to the The Offspring‘s website on May 11, 2017

BIOGRAPHY:
A good four years separate rager Pinnacle of Bedlam from new killer Of the Dark Light. But it wasn’t always like this. Back in the ‘90s, Suffocation maniacs waited, at most, two years between old and new fixes of New York-styled brutality. Landmark full-length Effigy of the Forgotten was only two years removed from debut EP, Human Waste. Likewise, Breeding the Spawn slayed posers and pretenders a year and a half after Effigy of the Forgotten blueprinted Suffocation into the history books. And Pierced from Within, the wickedest death metal put to tape in the mid-‘90s, slammed fist first into mediocrity and mundanity two years after Breeding the Spawn. Clearly, there were times when Suffocation’s march towards total annihilation was fast and furious.

“There’s a reason we don’t put out records every two years now,” asserts long-time Suffocation guitarist and primary songwriter Terrance Hobbs. “For one, we don’t need to. Two, we tour more now than we did in the early days. And three, we’re no longer in our twenties. We all have lives and families now. Plus, I enjoy writing things and letting them organically mature. For example, I started writing songs for Of the Dark Light right after Pinnacle of Bedlam.”

“Ever since I joined, Suffocation’s been on pretty heavy album and tour cycles,” bassist and lyric writer Derek Boyer agrees. “Sometimes the charisma was there, sometimes it wasn’t. We’d be on the road for a year, and only after that, we’d think about putting songs together. Then, we’d get pulled back on the road. That would delay the album cycle. So, our album cycle went from every two years to every three years to now every four years. Pinnacle of Bedlam came out in 2013. That’s a long time ago.”

Indeed, it was. When Pinnacle of Bedlam hit store shelves in the winter 2013, the world was proverbially on its knees. North Korea was conducting underground nuclear tests, a meteor hit a city in Russia’s South Urals, and Benedict XVI resigned as Pope, the first to intentionally do so since 1294. All this pandemonium occurred the same month Suffocation unfurled Pinnacle of Bedlam unto the world. Harbinger of doom it was. Four years later, the blue marble we inhabit is certifiably nuttier and more violent. It’s the perfect vehicle for Of the Dark Light, a full-length that not only welcomes new members—drummer Eric Morotti and guitarist Charlie Errigo—but also sees Hobbs writing the craziest, cruelest Suffocation material since Effigy of the Forgotten.

“Now, bands are very cutting edge,” Hobbs observes. “So, we felt we had to step up our game a little bit. Still be unique, but I will say we’re still using the same formula we’ve been using since Suffocation formed. It’s just ramped up. There are some new things in there that I hope the fans will hear. They’ll have to really listen to the album to hear it though. With the new guys, I had to consider their input. Really, in a nutshell, it came down to the chemistry I had with Charlie and Eric. It was a bonus, to me, that I had players that were really into it.”

“Terrance is the majority songwriter, where I’m the majority lyric writer,” offers Boyer. “I’ll get Hobbs to help me out with some lyrics or he’ll ask me to for my input on his songwriting ideas. We collaborate really well together. Now that we have some newer cats, we started playing live. We immediately thought, ‘Fuck, we need to have a new record out.’ So, we slammed everybody into the same room to finalize the album. Sure, we could’ve put out the album a long time ago, but the chemistry is so good now, I can’t imagine what this album would’ve sounded like without them.”

Written over a four-year span but finalized in the studio—“bells and whistles”, Hobbs calls it—Of the Dark Light ups Suffocation’s already ridiculous ante. The first song written, ‘The Warmth within the Dark’, is just as powerful, technical, and savage as the last song written, ‘Caught between Two Worlds’. It’s hard to believe members Frank Mullen and Hobbs were doing this in their teens. Now, almost three decades later, Suffocation are more intense, have more fire, and can still out-riff, out-growl, and out-blast younger bands mimeoed off classics like Despise the Sun and Blood Oath.

“I like ‘Some Things Should Be Left Alone’ and ‘Of the Dark Light’,” Hobbs reveals. “People should take into consideration when driving into work and playing this record. I don’t want people out road raging too much. There’s no need to plow into somebody at 155 miles per hour while playing this record. This album has a lot of gas to it. Listen to it on your headphones at the gym instead. I think the Suffocation fan are really going enjoy it.”

“A band like Suffocation isn’t going to introduce clean vocals or synthesizer,” says Boyer. “That’s just not who we are. This is Suffocation’s formula. This is the Suffocation fans have known to come and love. We’re not going to stray too far off that path. We have a focal point. We’re a death metal band. We’ve always been kind of quick and technical. We didn’t want to lose that. We just wanted to make all that more exciting, more alive on Of the Dark Light.”

To put Of the Dark Light to so-called ‘tape’, the band holed up—for the fifth time—at Joe Cincotta’s Full Force Studios (Waking the Cadaver, Mortal Decay) in Long Island, New York. From the beginning of December 2016 to just after Christmas, Suffocation mercilessly laid down tracks like ‘Your Last Breaths’, ‘Return to the Abyss’, ‘Some Things Should Be Left Alone’, and a re-make of Breeding the Spawn bruiser ‘Epitaph of the Credulous’. To make sure everything was “tight”, Suffocation rehearsed for almost a month before hitting up Cincotta’s studio. Old habits, turns out, are hard to break.

“Where I come from, everybody has to sit down and learn the material,” Hobbs levels. “Practice it. Once we have it locked down as a band, then we can think about approaching the studio to record it. For us, we tried to take that same approach. It took a little more time than usual. Also, we wanted an organic sound. There’s so much you can do with technology these days. Any band can sit behind a computer and piece together songs and it’ll probably sound pretty great. We wanted Of the Dark Light to sound like Suffocation not a computer.”

“Joe goes back to Souls to Deny,” Boyer remembers. “He was a buddy. It was after that album where we started touring the world, going to places Suffocation had never been to before. On those tours, Joe was the soundman. It’s likely if we had a slamming and heavy sound in the 2000s, it’s because our soundman was our producer. He knew the band, he knew the material, so it’s clear he knew how it should sound in a live setting. From Souls to Deny to Of the Dark Light, we’ve done our music with Joe at Full Force.”

To perfect Of the Dark Light, Suffocation shipped off the recordings to Chris ‘Zeuss’ Harris to mix and master. Suffocation wanted a clear yet punishing sound. So, as with Pinnacle of Bedlam so too with Of the Dark Light. Having recently worked with death metal legends Six Feet Under, hardcore heroes Hatebreed, and tech-thrashers Revocation, Zeuss knew exactly what to put in and extract out of Suffocation for the group’s eighth full-length. Songs like ‘Clarity through Deprivation’, ‘Return to the Abyss’, and ‘The Violation’ have a particularly strong bite.

“We knew, as a friend of the band and a fellow East Coaster, Chris would get what we were aiming for,” says Hobbs. “I’d say this is a full Suffocation endeavor with some outside help, particularly where it concerned Zeuss. It turned out great working with him.”

“We had Zeuss doing the mixing and mastering for Pinnacle, so it made sense for him to reprise his role on Of the Dark Light,” Boyer states. “I thought Pinnacle sounded great, but after I compared it to Of the Dark Light, it smokes Pinnacle.”

But if there’s one thing that’s different about Of the Dark Light, it’s the vocals. Founding member and vocalist Frank Mullen is the main vocalist, but his successor, contributing vocalist Kevin Muller (The Merciless Concept / ex-Pyrexia), also has skin the Suffocation game. That being said, Mullen’s contributions were almost not meant to be. The story goes Mullen voiced his concerns about appearing on the follow-up to Pinnacle of Bedlam while hanging at a local bowling alley with Hobbs, Boyer, new guitarist Charlie Errigo, and a few friends. Frank said to his bandmates, ‘Yo, I don’t think I’m going to do the new record!’ They were quick to respond, ‘Come on, Frank!’ A little coercing later, Mullen and Muller would brutalize their way through Boyer’s transcendental death-wish lyrics.

“Frank will always be part of Suffocation,” assures Hobbs. “He can come in and record just fine. It’s the touring. He can’t be gone for five-six weeks at a clip. That’s not good for his job or his family. If you trace this back to the when the economy crashed in 2008, the likelihood of Frank getting out on tour became less of an option. I give him credit. He does what’s right for Frank and his family. He’s been a part of the band since the beginning. And he’ll always be a part of the band.”

“Frank always comes in with a few jabs,” Boyer laughs. “Like for this record, he said, ‘What in the hell did you idiots put together on this one?!’ He’s funny. Every time, he’s like, ‘I’m not doing this again!’ Then, after it all comes together, he’s like, ‘Ah, this is so sick!’ But Frank isn’t always going to be able to play live with us. So, we’ve brought on Kevin. He actually appeared on a lot of parts on Of the Dark Light. Long-time fans may not even notice there are parts with Kevin singing. He sounds just like Frank. Frank actually called me right after we got the master and said, ‘Fuck! Does Kevin sing on every goddamned song?!’ I was like, ‘No, not all of them.’ Kevin knocked it out of the park on this record.”

As for respite, there is no respite with Suffocation. Musically or lyrically. Conceptually, Of the Dark Light deals with transcendence, the shedding of the physical skin to achieve another plane of existence. But the lyrics originate not from a land of colors, incense, and feel-good vibes. Former labelmates Cynic have already covered that to great success. No, Suffocation, as expected, sourced their metaphysical prose from the depths of darkness.

“I wrote a lot about transcendence, leaving the physical body,” tells Boyer. “There are planes of existence you can’t go with the physical body. The only way to escape it is to end your life, not just of natural causes. There’s a suicidal theme to Of the Dark Light. But it’s not like we sit around thinking about or promoting suicide. No, we’re really talking about transcendence and what happens after.”

“There are a few songs on Of the Dark Light that are about loosely, I think, horror movie topics,” Hobbs adds. “We’re a death metal band. But the majority of the lyrics deal with transcending everything through death. Transcending our physical form. There’s touches of the Tibetan Book of the Dead to the lyrics. I mean, we prepare our whole lives to just pass away. What happens next? I don’t know, but I’m sure I’ll find out sooner or later.”

About LAMB OF GOD:
Richmond, VA natives LAMB OF GOD are one of heavy music’s most successful and uncompromising bands.  When the band’s first major release, New American Gospel, was released in 2000 it was immediately touted as a classic within the genre. AllMusic stated it best, “The essential signatures of post-Pantera metal are in abundance on Lamb of God’s inaugural album. New American Gospel provides a mighty oak upon which gritty American metal’s faith is maintained, effectively bridging the ’90s’ insistence upon drill-sergeant technicality and the old school’s determined focus on riff construction.”
Some predicted a sophomore slump – that no band could top a debut album so strong.  They were proven wrong, with the release of 2004’s Ashes of the Wake, an album that not only exploded stateside (certified Gold by RIAA) but also saw the spread of LAMB OF GOD to all corners of the world.  The band’s first DVD, Killadelphia, followed shortly after and was certified Platinum.  Then, with Sacrament (Album, 2006, #8 debut on the US Billboard Hot 200), LAMB OF GOD were honored with a Grammy nomination for the track “Redneck”, which would be the first of five Grammy nominations for the band to date. Next came Walk With Me In Hell (DVD, 2008) and then the band’s fourth album Wrath in 2009, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 200 Chart, and then Resolution, which debuted at #3. Shortly after the release of Resolution, vocalist Randy Blythe was arrested in Prague, and spent 30 days in jail on a charge for which he was later acquitted (and lead to Blythe’s bestselling memoir, Dark Days, as well as the film As The Palaces Burn).  After regrouping, LAMB OF GOD lost no ground with their latest full-length album, VII: Sturm Und Drang, the album was #3 in the US, #1 in Canada, #2 in Australia, #3 in Finland, #7 in UK, #12 in Germany and #13 in Japan, and #13 in Netherlands. “Overlord“, the first single from VII: Sturm Und Drang, achieved a new milestone for the band when it reached the Top Thirty of US Active Rock Radio Chart (Mediabase).  Most recently, late last year LAMB OF GOD paid tribute to late, longtime fan and friend Wayne Ford with the release of The Duke EP, which raised funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The EP release coincided with a charity campaign offering personal items such as Blythe’s Ashes Of The Wake Gold plaque, signed signature model guitars, handwritten lyrics and more.
Since inception and through it all, LAMB OF GOD‘s consistent and unwavering commitment to their music – and their fans – has kept them a critical and fan favorite worldwide, selling millions of albums and tickets around the world.
LAMB OF GOD is Randy Blythe (vocals), Mark Morton (guitar), Willie Adler (guitar), John Campbell (bass), and Chris Adler (drums).

Seether Stage AE in Pittsburgh, PA on 5/19

Seether will release their new album Poison the Parish on May 12. The band will be touring extensively in support of the album, which features the riffy and tense smash “Let You Down.”

Guitarist Clint Lowery will augment the band’s line-up throughout the upcoming trek, adding his signature axe-work to Seether’s new songs and deep repertoire.

“We’ve been working on some upgrades to the production and the live sound, which includes welcoming our brother, Clint Lowery into the fold to help us thicken up that live sound experience,” Seether vocalist/guitarist Shaun Morgan said. “We want this tour to be exciting and different — a departure from what people expect from us, while retaining the qualities that make us unique, in order to entertain the fans. It’s going to be loud, heavy, old school Seether with a couple of twists thrown in to keep things exciting.”

The band will appear at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, PA on 5/19.

ANTHRAX RELEASE LIMITED EDITION “FOR ALL KINGS 7-INCH BOX SET”

Anthrax are due to release a real collector’s piece to accompany their last LP For All Kings which really showed that the band may have started in 1981 but are very far from slowing down creatively. It is an absolutely stunning collector’s item for any Anthrax fan as this unboxing video will illustrate – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU3e4hwzBR8&feature=youtu.be There have been band members who have come and gone and come back again with that time period, but on wax and live they are clicking on all cylinders.  Luckily the band will be hitting Pittsburgh next month with Killswitch Engage and The Devil Wears Prada.

What makes the set special are the demo versions of many of the songs from For All Kings.  The raw intensity gives a “live” vibe that production polishing does not allow.  Of course, this might be an acquired taste for some, but true Anthrax fans and collectors will be thrilled.  The nuanced differences take a discerning ear at times, but give a bit of insight into the process of creation, particularly through the instrumentation working in syncopation.  Also, the box set has never released in the U.S tracks that were not readily available previously (Check out“Vice of the People,” the “new-to-the-U.S.” track https://goo.gl/DAqOML), as well as two cover songs, including an unexpected White Stripes tune (so perfect for a thrash make-over it’s sick).

Available exclusively in North America and released in conjunction with the band’s upcoming Spring co-headline tour with Killswitch Engage – “KillThrax” – thrash metal icon ANTHRAX – Frank Bello/bass, Scott Ian/guitar, Joey Belladonna/vocals, Charlie Benante/drums, Jonathan Donais/guitar – announces the release of the limited edition “For All Kings 7-Inch Box Set” (Megaforce Records).  The set goes on sale March 24, will retail for $79.99.

The “For All Kings 7-Inch Box Set” includes a removable lenticular cover and contains 10 7-inch vinyl discs featuring 20 songs – the 11 finished album tracks, two brand new covers (The White Stripes’ “Black Math” and the classic Kansas song “Carry On”), six demos from the FAK track listing, and “Vice of the People,” a bonus track previously released only in Japan and now making its North American vinyl debut.  The original album cover art sketch by Alex Ross is also part of this package, as well as a download card enabling the holder to access the Box Set’s track listing for free.

Each 7-inch disc features gorgeous, double-sided four-color artwork designed by Douglas Heusser with additional art by Stephen Thompson, as well as band photos by Jimmy Hubbard.  The tracks are pressed onto different-colored vinyl discs – red, green, blue, maroon, orange, most with a two-color swirl design.

“Doing a box set edition of ‘For All Kings’ was something that we’ve always wanted to do,” said Benante, who worked closely with Heusser and Thompson on the box set’s artwork.  “We wanted to do something special, something that was so much more than the original release, and have it be fun for our audience when they open it up, just be floored by the different colored vinyl, the artwork, everything that’s inside.  And we think we’ve done that.”

JAMMING ON “INDIANS”
L-R:  Anthrax’s Frank Bello, Norman Reedus (w/ hat), Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna

LOS ANGELES, CAL – Thursday, October 6, 2016 — Actor Norman Reedus, better known as Daryl Dixon on “The Walking Dead,” joined Anthrax on stage last night at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, jamming on guitar during the band’s classic “Indians.”  Anthrax’s Frank Bello and Scott Ian are both huge fans of the show – in 2015, Ian appeared in an episode playing one of the zombies, and unfortunately met a horrible demise with a metal pole through his head.

Before last night’s show, Bello and Ian dropped by “The Walking Dead” set, hanging out with Reedus and the show’s director/special effects artist Greg Nicotero.

Anthrax is current on tour with Slayer and Death Angel, upcoming dates are below.

About Red Hot Chili Peppers
One of the most successful acts in rock history, Red Hot Chili Peppers, which is singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, have sold more than 60 million albums, including five multi-platinum LPs, and won six Grammy Awards, including “Best Rock Album” for Stadium Arcadium, “Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group” for “Dani California,” “Best Rock Song” for “Scar Tissue,” and “Best Hard Rock Performance With Vocal” for “Give It Away.”  The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2012. The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ last studio album, The Getaway, was released by Warner Bros. Records on June 17, 2016.

Slayer, Anthrax, and Death Angel Reign Blood on Pittsburgh

When the announcement of the Slayer North American Tour was announced, it may have seemed, to some, that a mistake was made.  Slayer with Anthrax and Death Angel?  Three thrash powerhouses who have stood the test of time performing on the same night?  It’s no wonder Stage AE in Pittsburgh was sold out last night, filled to the brim with raucous metal fans chomping at the bit.  All three bands put on killer performances and showed no signs of slowing down, regardless of their ages and band time span.

As far as openers go, well it’s tough to call Death Angel and opener, they have been around since ’82 in one incarnation or another since their landmark hit, “Bored”.  Also, Death Angel is in all essence a subset of the Big 4 thrash bands, emerging from the San Fran scene.  Since their last Pittsburgh visit a fe Halloweens ago, Death Angel has been busy touring their latest The Evil Divide and even producing a “thrashumentary”.  Released last year, the film tells the story of Death Angel from  inception to the present day (get it here).  Singer, Mark Osegueda, was as lively as ever and spot on vocally. Guitarists Rob Cavestany and Ted Aguilar spew out axe pyrotechnics, while Damien Sisson (bass) and Will Carroll (drums) kept the brutal low end so important to the genre.  The new material may be some of their best and is worth getting in the doors early to witness.

Anthrax was in Pittsburgh last January with Lamb of God and put forth one of the best classic Anthrax laden sets that this writer has ever witnessed.  This night Anthrax played just a bit more of their excellent new effort For All Kings, but definitely played some of their best including, “Caught In A Mosh”, “Got The Time”, “Antisocial” and “Indians”.  Two of those songs (“Got The Time” and “Antisocial”) are cover songs that the band has so uniquely made their own, most people do not know that Joe Jackson and Trust, respectively,  actually wrote them.  Scott Ian (guitar) was once again a model of thrash and was, as usual, showing what a guitar god can do and really have a good time doing so.  Singer Joey Belladonna was in excellent singing condition and has breathed new life into the band since his return.  Newcomer, guitarist Jonathan Donais, is fitting in and also breathing fire into the bands material.  He proved his worth in Shadows Fall and is absolutely killing it as Rob Caggiano’s replacement since 2013.  Charlie Benante and Frank Bello were completely synced in (after all they are family) and a pleasure to watch, although it was tough to get a glimpse of Frank’s face as his hair was in constant motion as he powered through the set.  It’s incredible that this band just keeps getting better after all these years  (1981) and is not only producing top level records, but also matching that with high energy shows.

It took all of 35 seconds upon entry before one heard the infamous call, “SLAAAAAAYYYYYEEERRRR!”  The band has been in high gear as of late, pumping out a trio of videos for Repentless and just starting this N.American Tour.  Like their counterparts and tour mates Death Angel and Anthrax, they have been around since the inception of thrash (1981).  Their material is as fresh and brain damaging as ever and their live show is tough to top in terms of sheer onslaught of power.  Kerry King, massive chains and tribal tattoos and all, stays in the pocket and just rips from there, always a jaw dropper to watch.  Tom Araya was dead on vocally as well and of course his bass playing is underrated.  The addition of Exodus guitar player Gary Holt since Jeff Hanneman‘s illness and eventual death has added a different layer and dimension to the band, the material on Repentless really showing his influence in various ways.  Paul Bostaph’s return on drums is also a different layer, replacing his replacement who he replaced originally (huh?), Dave Lombardo, who is now behind the kit for The Misfits reunion shows.  To sum it up, Slayer was Slayer, they were impressive, loud, fast, and like Conan, crushed their enemies before them.  An awesome night for metal and for Pittsburgh for sure, and one tough to beat.  Maybe Clutch, Zakk Sabbath, and Kyng can try on October 1 when they hit Stage AE.

New LP from Racing Heart out tomorrow, streaming now at TLOBF

Racing Heart’s sophomore LP out tomorrow on Misra Records
Stream it in full at The Line of Best Fit

The second album of music by Mathias H. Tjønn as Racing Heart,What Comes After is a political record trying to be personal rather than preachy. It contains songs about society’s impotent solutions in the aftermath of The Great Recession (“Flogging a Dead Horse”), office visits to the power players of the world (“A Prayer from Our Leaders”), reports from the front lines of our endless conflicts with no clear enemies (“Squaring the Circle”) as well as tracks about all the rest of us caught in the crossfire.

Stream: Racing Heart – “Squaring the Circle”
via Soundcloud or BrooklynVegan

Produced by Hanne Hukkelberg, the album is a stark departure from Racing Heart’s debut record in both style and substance. Instead of looking inwards, they look outwards. Instead of being folk-based, they aim to meld acoustic instruments and synthesized sounds. This album has sharp edges. Genre-wiseWhat Comes After is an experimental pop album inspired by musicians such as David Sylvian, Winston Tong and John Foxx. Mixing some of the sounds of the early 80’s with a multitude of contemporary voices both real and artificial, What Comes Aftertries to make some sense of the way neoliberalism and its faceless language of finance-first has led us here.

Helped greatly by the creativity of musician Jenny Hval who contributes both lyrics and vocals, the songs are propelled by the drums and programming of Martin Langlie (Susanne Sundfør,Pantha du Prince). Recorded and mixed in Oslo, Norway and New York, What Comes After will be released digitally and as a phono postcard worldwide on Misra Records, September 16th 2016.

Racing Heart was formed in Brooklyn in 2010. Two years later, To Walk Beside that Ghost was released on Movemountains Records, with members from The War on Drugs, St. Vincent andSufjan Stevens’ bands joining the studio sessions.

“Oslo transplant and prime creative force Mathias Tjønn’s distant muse feels just as irrevocably lost asJustin Vernon‘s, though the elaborate wash of harmonies more closely recallsGrizzly Bear, Local Natives, or even Maps & Atlases. There’s an intricate allure in the interplay between Racing Hearts’ rippling auto-harp, precisely shaded drumming, and queasy analogue synths.” – SPIN

Red Hot Chili Peppers To Welcome Rams Home To Los Angeles

Pregame Performance at LA Memorial Coliseum Leads into Rams-Seahawks on Sunday, September 18

LOS ANGELES, CA – SEPTEMBER 13, 2016 –

Los Angeles’ own RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS will help kick off the Rams’ inaugural season back home in Southern California with a performance prior to the historic home opener at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, September 18.  The pregame performance leads into the Rams hosting the Seattle Seahawks during the first NFL game in Los Angeles in 22 years (FOX 11/KTTV, 1:05 PM PT).
“Since I was a little boy, I’ve taken joy in the beauty of the Rams.  When I moved to Los Angeles in 1972, I was getting uprooted from my home and I thought, ‘Well, where I’m going they’ve got the Rams. It’s going to be all right,'” said Flea.
Red Hot Chili Peppers’ new album The Getaway debuted at #1 on the Billboard Album Sales Chart and at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 upon its release in June. The Getaway marks the Grammy Award-winning band’s seventh top 10 album and third #2 on the Top 200 Chart. The album debuted at #1 in Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands, and New Zealand and at #2 in the United Kingdom and Germany. The Getaway was produced by Danger Mouse and mixed by Nigel Godrich.
The album was praised by Rolling Stone: “top-shelf modern-rock splendor”, People: “their best album in ages”, USA Today: “…proves not only that the longtime rockers still sizzle 30 years in, but also are capable of victoriously revamping their sound”, and many more.
Gates to the Coliseum open at 11:00 AM PT and fans should be in their seats 30-minutes prior to kickoff to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers performance.  Important information for those attending the game about security, parking and transportation can be found at http://www.therams.com/gameday.
Fans should be prepared for enhanced security elements at the Coliseum.  Metal detectors have been installed at all gates and guests will be required to walk through them before entering the stadium.  In addition, the Clear Bag Policy will be in effect for all games at the Coliseum this year. The Rams strongly encourage fans to not bring any type of bags, but http://www.NFL.com/allclearoutlines what bags are permissible and what items are prohibited.

ABOUT GREEN DAY
Green Day is an American punk rock band composed of vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool. Formed in 1986, Green Day was originally part of the punk scene at the DIY 924 Gilman Street club in Berkeley, California. The band’s early releases were with the independent record label Lookout! Records. In 1994, its major label debut Dookie (released through Reprise Records) became a breakout success and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the United States. Green Day was widely credited with popularizing and reviving mainstream interest in punk rock in the United States.  Green Day’s follow up albums Insomniac (1995) and Nimrod (1997) each sold over two million albums and were certified Double Platinum, and Warning (2000) was certified Platinum.  2004 brought the band’s rock opera American Idiot which reignited the band’s popularity with a younger generation and sold over six million copies in the United States.  Green Day is one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide. The group has won five Grammy Awards: Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for American Idiot, Record of the Year for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, Best Rock Album for the second time for 21st Century Breakdown and Best Musical Show Album for American Idiot: The Original Broadway Cast Recording. In 2010, a stage adaptation of American Idiot debuted on Broadway.  On April 18, 2015, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a part of the 2015 class in what was their first year of eligibility for induction. On October 16, 2015, Green Day released the documentary Heart Like A Hand Grenade, an unprecedented behind the scenes look at the writing and recording of their legendary album American Idiot.

** DEATH ANGEL only
# Anthrax, DEATH ANGEL only

DEATH ANGEL will be touring in support of their newest full-length The Evil Divide, released earlier this Spring via Nuclear Blast Records. The Evil Divide was recorded at AudioHammer studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof (Trivium, Deicide), who previously worked on 2010’sRelentless Retribution and 2013’s The Dream Calls For Blood. Mastering duties were handled by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York City.

Three decades into their celebrated career, DEATH ANGEL remains as hungry as ever. As a result, uncompromising urgency and unpredictability drive The Evil Divide. The group – vocalist Mark Osegueda, lead guitarist Rob Cavestany, guitarist Ted Aguilar, drummer Will Carroll, and bassist Damien Sisson – satiate the appetite for buzzsaw speed riffs, double bass mayhem, and scorching vocals over the course of ten new anthems.

The Evil Divide stands out as the culmination of thirty-plus years of music for DEATH ANGEL. It kicked off with legendary debut, The Ultra-Violence, in 1987. The classic Frolic Through The Parkbegan to cement their legacy and even earned the distinction of landing on Loudwire’s list of the “Top Ten Thrash Albums NOT Released By The Big 4.” The group broke up following 1990’s Act III only to reunite in 2004 on Art Of Dying for the next generation.

In 2008, DEATH ANGEL teamed with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Rush, Mastodon) for Killing Season recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606. In 2010, Relentless Retribution boasted a cameo from virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela, while 2013’s The Dream Calls For Blood bowed at #72 on the Billboard Top 200, selling 5,400 copies first-week and earning the group’s first-ever entry onto that respective chart.

Grouplove first came together in 2009 and were quickly hailed for their standout live performances, both as headliners and at such international festivals as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Reading + Leeds Festivals, and Glastonbury.  A year after releasing a self-titled EP in 2010, the band returned with their debut full length “NEVER TRUST A HAPPY SONG” featuring a trio of breakout singles – “Colours,” “Itchin’ On A Photograph,” and the RIAA-certified platinum hit “Tongue Tied” which spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Alternative radio chart. The quintet’s second full length album – 2013’s “SPREADING RUMOURS” – was met with a raft of acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times, NYLON, and National Public Radio who called it “ludicrously easy to love.”  As with all of Grouplove’s recorded material, the collection was produced by the band’s own Ryan Rabin, and was highlighted by singles “Ways To Go” and “Shark Attack.”  In 2014, Grouplove contributed the original song “Let Me In” to  “The Fault in Our Stars – Music From the Motion Picture,” the musical companion to the blockbuster film based on The New York Times bestseller. That same year, the band was tapped to create the theme song to the Netflix Original Series “BoJack Horseman.” Last year, vocalist/keyboardist Hannah Hooper collaborated with Volcom for a Lady Grouplove capsule collection of clothing inspired by her personal style and artwork.
Grouplove is: Christian Zucconi (vocals, guitar), Hannah Hooper (vocals, keys), Andrew Wessen (guitar, vocals), Ryan Rabin (drums), and Daniel Gleason (bass).

Grammy nominated Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto is excited to be back on tour this Fall. Her month long US tour will start on September 10th in Boca Raton, FL and continues through October, where she will perform a 3-night run at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY before joining fellow Brazilian Mariza in Newark, NJ on the 16th. The tour will make stops in ten different cities across the country.

Gilberto, who has earned multiple Grammy nominations over the course of her career, has captivated fans and earned media acclaim worldwide with her trademark electronic bossa nova, sonically transporting listeners to Brazil, with bright, incandescent bossa nova-infused melodies, lyrics about love, and a lilting performance style has earned her raves for her live performances.

Hailing from a rich musical lineage, Bebel is the is the daughter of João Gilberto and singer Miúcha, and grew up surrounded by her extended musically family, including her uncle Chico Buarque and family friends like Milton Nacimento, Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso, and João Donato. Her professional solo debut came in 1986 with a self-titled EP released by WEA which included “Preciso dizer que te amo,” a partnership with Cazuza.

With her highly acclaimed release Tanto Tempo in 2000, Bebel introduced her now-trademark blend of electronic bossa nova, which took over clubs around the world and positioned Bebel as one of the top-selling Brazilian artists in the U.S. The album reflected Bebel’s life split growing up between Brazil and New York City, infusing a modern, cosmopolitan edge to the music she grew up with. She continues to call New York City home to this day.

CHILD BITE continues to astound ears with the apocalyptic sounds of Negative Noise, out now on Housecore Records. The wild, forty-seven-minute ride was produced by label head Philip H. Anselmo, mastered by Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer), and is where the Venn diagram of Black Flag, Voivod, and The Jesus Lizard truly overlaps.
The Sludgelord notes, “CHILD BITE creates an idiosyncratic racket, a chaotic collision of off-kilter punk, the weirder end of ’80s hardcore and rumbling post-punk. Negative Noise is an invigorating blast of dissonance, a blend of familiar influences twisted into their warped vision. Shawn Knight’s hyperactive drawl makes a compelling foil to the band’s manic yet inventive playing, as his Jello Biafra via Mike Watt drawl varies in intensity to match the song’s twists and turns.” New Noise Magazine calls CHILD BITE‘s Negative Noise, “…an adventurous slice of loud rock…They have the aggressive force of hardcore, but it’s filtered through grimy noise rock…Negative Noise showcases a band firing on all cylinders.” Brave Words observes, “The danger with this sort of artsy punk is that it can skirt a line between really interesting and creative and just really annoying and grating, really fast. Most bands who do this sort of thing end up being in the latter category, but CHILD BITE stay listenable, thanks to a ton of interesting and cool guitar work (check out ‘Video Blood’) and an ability to keep things toe-tapping and relatively rockin’, even if it’s rarely with a straight beat and is certainly never with an expected twist or turn,” adding, “References within the sphere of metal are hard to come by, but imagine if the first Mr. Bungle album wasn’t annoying circus music, and then remember that this band once did a 5″ record of Anal Cunt covers with Phil Anselmo on vocals, and you’re getting there.” Punk News concurs, “This is for the open minded punk, headbanger or weirdo. If you like your music a little on the ugly side, you owe it to yourself to check them out. (Especially if you get a chance to see them live.) Negative Noise can be a hard record to love, but ultimately it’s worth the effort.” No Clean Singing notes, ” Negative Noise possesses a brilliance and individuality all its own and is a refreshing breath of fetid air in an era saturated with a d-beat-only approach to punk and hardcore,” while KNAC hails, “…an all-over-the-place shitstorm of punk/hardcore, metal, noise/post rock, prog and even surf music in Brandon Sczomak’s shrill guitar jangle…it sounds sorta like someone stuffed Mr. Bungle/Fantomas, Voivod, old Clutch (especially in Shawn Knight’s husky baritone and seemingly extemporaneous delivery), Black Flag and The Jesus Lizard into a blender, pushed ‘grind’ and then forget to turn it off.”

ABOUT SLAYER
For more than three decades, Slayer’s onslaught has proven the band to be the supreme thrash-metal band on the planet, the band that other heavy acts are measured against and aspire to. The two-time Grammy-winners have also accumulated an abundance of certified Gold Albums along with “Best…” awards from media outlets all over the world, including Kerrang!SPINMetal HammerRevolver, and Esquire.  Throughout Slayer’s history, the band has never faltered in unleashing its extreme and focused sonic assault, and, unlike many of its contemporaries who “commercialized” their sound, Slayer has remained crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream.  Slayer’s founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed in 2013, and Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has been filling in for him since.  Paul Bostaph, who was Slayer’s drummer from ’94 – ’01, has rejoined bassist/vocalist Tom Araya and guitarist Kerry King, and is back behind the kit.
In September 2015, Slayer released Repentless, the band’s 12th studio album, the first without Hanneman and first with producer Terry Date, to widespread rave reviews and the highest chart debut of the band’s career. The band also teamed up with director BJ McDonnell for two high-concept and brutal music videos for the album’s “Repentless” (9.5-million views) and then for  “You Against You.” (4.2-million views).

JEFF LOOMIS robbed in St. Louis, asks for donations to help out

309

Jeff Loomis and his band, currently on tour with SOILWORK, had their van broken into last night while in St. Louis. Loomis elaborates:

“Last night after our show in St. Louis, our tour van was broken into as we were grabbing a bite to eat before our drive to Dallas. We were parked in a well lit area in front of the restaurant. In the ten to fifteen minutes that it took for us to order our food and eat, all of our personal items such as laptops, cameras, musical equipment, cell phones, passports and money were stolen. We came outside to find the lock on the driver side door popped out of the van, and promptly called the police. A report has been filed and the van was fingerprinted, but the leads don’t seem promising. The police stated that this is apparently a common occurrence for the area. We are all in disbelief, but are very fortunate for everyone to be ok.

After discussing the situation as a group, we would like to try to continue on with this tour. But to be able to do this, we will need your help. We have all taken a huge hit financially, and we cannot continue on without some sort of support. We have set up a paypal account for any amount of donations to assist us for the duration of the tour.

Below is the paypal email to make donations to.

Any and all support will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,”
