THE ROAR Releases Official Music Video for Cover of BRYAN ADAMS Rock Classic “Heaven”

The Roar - Band Pic hi res

Corona, CA based Rock Band has released the official music video for their cover of the 1985 BRYAN ADAMS hit single, “Heaven.” Off of their new LP, Ninja Kitties, “Heaven” was filmed at Musicians Performance Studios, Inc..

“I became interested in covering ‘Heaven’ by Adams in the 90s when I noticed that many melodic punk bands covered his song ‘Summer of 69’. I wanted to do a different song, and I always thought Heaven would sound better in a faster tempo with heavier guitars. The song is nostalgic for 80s love songs. It reminds us of the innocence of love and hope. Maybe a trip into the past is what we need…, albeit reimagined.” – THE ROAR

Originally released as part of the motion picture soundtrack and opening title theme of “Role Play”, a film directed by Rubin Whitmore III in January 2013, the undeniable groove is receiving new life as part of the new EP from Radio Milwaukee’s 2012 Solo Artist of the Year.  Heavy on funk but light on the mood, “What Do I Know?” questions relationship roles and the dreams we sell, or fall short of, to maintain those roles.  With the help of B~Free’s heavenly, light harmonies in the mix, and a bright, jazzy flute solo in the outro, Klassik continues to find a way to turn the harsh realities of this world into a luscious musical escape; because with so many uncertainties in this world, what do we really know?

We know Klassik will keep the melodies pumping, your feet (and mind) moving, and your musical pallets satisfied when YRP drops this Fall. See Klassik perform this new song and other new music on September 6th with Chicago artist Show You Suck and Midwest trio RAGELIFE at the Stonefly Brewery in Milwaukee, WI.

Winslow’s unique blend of soul, funk, rock and jazz has been described as a musical breath of fresh air. Maurice Martin, vocalist for Winslow, explains how the band’s four years of growth and changes has led them to creating Left of the Right Direction. “We have grown a lot since our first album. I feel like our songwriting really has come a long way. We aren’t trying to fit into a mold of a certain genre or style. Our real goal was to create an album that we could be proud of. Call it pop. Call it soul. As long as people listen, they can call it what they will.”

Winslow is Maurice Martin (vocals), Matt Tieman (saxophone), Curtis Tate (keyboard), Charlie Trenta (guitar), Danny Kolliner (bass), and Jesse Marquardt (drums). Each member of the band has a background studying diverse styles of music and it comes through in the music. Subsequently, all of Winslow’s tracks can be heard as their own individual vignettes, highlighting one distinct part of the group’s musical background. Martin’s hooks and signature vocal style serve as the bond that ties the songs together and make the album cohesive.

The talented songstress caught the attention of fans and critics in 2012 for her astounding tribute to the legendary Whitney Houston. One of Sheléa’s biggest supporters, Stevie Wonder, was instrumental in booking her for a performance this past May at the White House for President and Michelle Obama honoring composers Burt Bacharach and Hal David with the Gershwin Prize.

Sheléa has lent her stellar vocals to various soundtrack projects including Hotel Rwanda, Akeelah and the Bee and Be Cool. The title track off her 2013 debut album Love Fell On Me was chosen as the musical theme for the film Jumping the Broom (Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Mike Epps) and features the iconic Stevie Wonder who adds his signature, lyrical harmonica licks to the track. Sheléa also wrote and produced two songs on Chanté Moore’s last album, Love the Woman, including the album’s single “It Ain’t Supposed to Be This Way.”

The stunning depth of Sheléa’s talent will be revealed with the release of her debut album, Love Fell On Me in early 2013. The album encompasses a classic blend of soul, R&B, and jazz, and captures the true essence of romance reminiscent of the greats Natalie Cole and Anita Baker. The lead single, “Seeing You,” showcases Sheléa’s vocal range and features actor Christian Keyes in the official music video.

Ralph ‘Soul’ Jackson Premieres “For Just One Second”

Click Here To Listen To “For Just One Second” On PopMatters

“I grew up in the country, a hard working environment where your ass had to get out there and work,” laughs Ralph ‘Soul’ Jackson from Phenix City, AL, a rural city deep in the Black Belt across the Chattahoochee River from Columbus, GA, where the last battle of the Civil War was fought. During Jackson’s childhood, this Southeast corner of Alabama was called the Las Vegas of the South. The city’s infamous club-lined main drag became such a hotbed for organized crime there were city ordinances calling for a weekly drag of the River. Jackson was sneaking into those same clubs throughout the 60s, learning how to turn out a crowd and entertain the ladies. Now a sleepy hub city to Columbus, he finds his hometown, neighbors and country living the greatest influences on his nearly 50 year career as an entertainer and The Alabama Love Man.

Jackson began writing as a teenager and after hearing Otis and Pickett on the radio he sent a demo to Rick Hall at FAME. Hall brought Jackson to Muscle Shoals for his fiery debut recordings, christened him ‘Soul’ and released his first single in 1965. Like in the local juke joints, he watched Hall pull sounds from instruments and the angles of his studio, saw Spooner Oldham run one-take live sessions and experienced the marriage of what Jackson calls “honky-tonk” guitars and driving, church-influenced rhythms, the blueprint for southern soul. “Steve Cropper, Jimmy Johnson and the white bands playing those country licks made a lot of hit records. I was expecting to show up in Muscle Shoals surrounded by black musicians. Growing up, we were all dancing to “Hi-Heeled Sneakers” not knowing it was a country and western song.”

The overwhelming theme in Jackson’s music is the love of a good woman. “I’ve learned. Women dogged me out when I was 18, 20. I got burned, man. Finding a good, trustworthy woman of virtue takes years and when you find one, well, it makes you want to moan. They tell me “I get chills when you scream from the stage.” See, I may sing my songs from the gut but they come from my heart. I learned very early that women appreciate attention, I’m not singing for women, I sing to them.”

‘The Alabama Love Man’ is Jackson’s debut album The process began three years ago with a core group from Alabama and Chicago cutting the rhythm tracks live in Jackson’s home studio during a wicked March cold snap. Over the next couple years, overdubs and vocals were recorded in Chicago with the help of Todd Rittmann, Adam Fitz, Nellie ‘Tiger’ Travis, and members of The Drastics, Mucca Pazza, Detholz!, US Maple and Dead Rider. Not trying to recreate the magic of an era disconnected by our analog to digital world, the album captures a living document of Ralph ‘Soul’ Jackson in his prime. After all, Jackson is constantly advancing his craft and he believes you’re never too old to entertain, “I’m still up at 3 AM writing songs or performing two sets or learning how to get the most out of my access to technology as an independent artist.” He understands he’s not in this alone, “The Lord gave me this gift and it’s been good to me. With him on my side I’m able too keep moving forward.”
