John 5 of Rob Zombie’s band caught up with PGHMUSICMAG at The Rockstar Mayhem Music Festival in Pittsburgh on July 7, 2013. Frankie Palmeri is no stranger to controversy. His band Emmure (The band’s name is a reference to immurement, a form of execution) has been lighting up stages since 2003 with their own brand of metalcore, or brocore, if you will, with edgy lyrics and metal style music mixed with breakdowns, rap, spoken word, and an overall heavily aggressive beat that goes straight for the jugular. At the helm as the singer and spokesperson, Palmeri has often incited a lot of controversial press due to t-shirts that referenced Columbine, to commonly using homophobic and racist words like ‘faggot’ and ‘nigger’ in social outlets, as well as coming off as a general hard ass. Feuds with bands like The Atlas Moth and blogs like Metal Injection only serve to further debate about Emmure and their leader.

2013 looks like a big year in store for Emmure regardless. With a prime spot on The Rockstar Mayhem Festival and the possibility of a new record to accompany their new contract with Victory Records, Frankie and crew look to further their quest to put out their brand of music whether you dig it or not. Pittsburgh Music Magazine caught up with Frankie as he and the band recently got back from Russia where he was electrocuted May 7th (see link for video) on stage. Although Frankie wasn’t too keen on talking about the incident he did talk to us about festival shows such as Mayhem, the vibe of their performance, understanding Frankie himself, bands creating polarity, the disappointment with 2012’s Slave to the Game, the Emmure writing process, and staying sane on the road…

Butcher Babies Check in with PGHMUSICMAG Before Pittsburgh Mayhem Festival Appearance

They’ve been described as ‘The Hottest Metal Act’ today for several reasons. First of all, Butcher Babies clearly have two gorgeous front-women belting out powerful lyrics overtop ground pounding metal based music in the vein of Pantera. Second, the music not only holds up, but is really making a mark on the industry and a fast developing fan base, proving they can kick ass with the best of them. Although one may try to brush off the group as a gimmick of two babes in makeup and little else playing with shock rockers, there truly is much more to the band. Carla Harvey was raised as a Mormon and has a degree in Mortuary Science, Heidi Shepherd was a bit of a track and field star all the way up to the Junior Olympics, and Henry Flury (guitar), Jason Klein (bass), and Chris Warner (drums) have built their chops playing with Amen, Azdachao, and Scars of Tomorrow (respectively). The stage show they put on is pure entertainment, but the quality of the music is always first and foremost to the band.

It was strange fate that brought the two front vocalist together. Heidi did a stint with Playboy Radio, when she decided it was time to stop playing other people’s music and start making her own. She joined an all-girl punk band that was short-lived but where she met future Butcher Baby and best friend, Carla Harvey who also did a stint with Playboy TV. Setting out to make their mark past the Sunset Strip of Hollywood, with beauty, brains, and brawn Butcher Babies was born.

Butcher Babies have certainly peaked the metal worlds’ interest and are poised to do much more. With the release of their full length LP Goliath in July and a prime spot on the 2013 Rockstar Mayhem Festival, it seems like this is just the beginning.

Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Job For A Cowboy, Battlecross Confirmed For Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest 2013

AMON AMARTH have confirmed that they will be performing as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival 2013 in North America this summer. Not only will they be performing, but they will be on the main stage along with Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch, and Mastodon! The entire confirmed lineup can be found at rockstarmayhemfest.com. AMON AMARTH will be touring in support of their upcoming new album, which will be their ninth studio release. The album title, art, deluxe pre-order bundles, and new music will be revealed within the next few weeks.

Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen comments: “Amon Amarth is excited to be part of this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. We can’t think of a better way to spend the summer than raging and pillaging across North America in real Viking style!”

Surtur Rising, the band’s previous effort, was released in North America on March 29, 2011 and landed on multiple charts worldwide, making it one of the band’s fastest-selling albums to date. Surtur Rising debuted at #34 on the Billboard Top 200, #6 on the Billboard Top Independent Album, #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Music Albums and #10 on the Indy/Small Chain Core Store Chart. The record entered Austria’s Top 40 Chart at #12 and Switzerland’s Top 100 at #20. In Germany, Surtur Rising entered the Top 100 Chart at #8 and the official Media Mark charts at #14 in its second week. In Canada, Surtur Risingcame in at #19 on the Top 200 Chart, #5 on the Independent Charts and #2 on Hard Charts. BEHEMOTH:
BEHEMOTH, Poland’s preeminent metal export, will be releasing a new album in 2013. En route to releasing their tenth studio album, BEHEMOTH will perform throughout North America as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. They will perform on the Musician’s Institute stage with Children of Bodom. Information on BEHEMOTH’s new album, including art, music, and behind the scenes studio videos will be unveiled within the next few months.

The LA Weekly heralded BEHEMOTH as “one of the most compelling live presences in metal” while maintaining the year-and-a-half hiatus (due to Nergal’s battle with leukemia) served only to elevate the band’s intensity, which North American fans most recently experienced during 2012’s Decibel Magazine Tour. BEHEMOTH’s latest full length album,Evangelion, achieved gold status in Poland and debuted at #56 on the Billboard Top 200 Charts in the US upon its release in 2009.

JOB FOR A COWBOY:
JOB FOR A COWBOY are confirmed to perform as part of Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest 2013. The band will be performing all summer long on the Jagermeister Stagealongside Machine Head, Battlecross, Butcher Babies, and Huntress. This will be JOB FOR A COWBOY’s second time performing on what has become the largest touring metal festival in North America.

This year has already been incredibly busy for JOB FOR A COWBOY. Currently, the band is in Europe headlining Bonecrusher Fest with Beneath the Massacre, War From A Harlots Mouth, and more. Following Europe, they will join HatebreedEvery Time I Die for an April tour that culminates with a performance at the fifteenth annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. Detroit, Michigan’s BATTLECROSS will be spending their summer in the most metal of ways: performing on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest 2013. They will be performing on the Jagermeister Stage with Machine Head, Job for a Cowboy, Butcher Babies, and Huntress. BATTLECROSS are currently at Audiohammer Studios with producer Mark Lewis to record their sophomore album. New music, art and other new album info will be unveiled over the next few months, leading up to the festival.

In addition to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest, BATTLECROSS had previously confirmed their appearance at this year’s Orion Music & More Festival in their hometown of Detroit, MI. The lineup, of course, features festival founders Metallica along with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, Rise Against, and many more.

Pursuit of Honor‘s three singles ‘Push Pull Destroy,’ ‘Man of Stone’ and ‘Breaking You,’ spent more than 50 combined weeks on Sirius XM Liquid Metal ‘Devil’s Dozen’ list of most requested songs, with ‘Push Pull Destroy’ at the top spot for five weeks last spring.
