Charlie Coffeen with Angéle Anise and Tyler Berg, “B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe” | R&B flip on Kendrick’s hit

Chicago pianist Charlie Coffeen comes together with drummer Tyler Namberg and singer Angele Anise for an acoustic rendition of Kendrick Lamar’s “B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe”. The music video was shot by Bradley Murray, Kristie Kahns, Ryan Schorr and David Burkart. “I’ve been wearing Kendrick’s album out since it dropped, and I had an idea to do a version of this song while I was on the road for some shows last month,” says Charlie. “Angéle is one of my favorite vocalists, and Tyler and I play together all the time. This line-up seemed like the right fit to do something special with this song, so we got together for a few hours at I.V. Lab in Chicago with some friends around to shoot the performance and ended up with this.” Charlie and Tyler are both members of Chicago hip-hop/soul/jazz band Sidewalk Chalk, which was named Best Chicago Hip-Hop Act of 2010 by Chicago Reader. Sidewalk Chalk is releasing its sophomore album, Leaves, on February 25th before touring across the US. Initial tour dates include Chicago at the Double Door (2/21), DROM in New York (2/22), and Hotel Cafe in LA (3/28).

Soulful Divas Evelyn Champagne King & Thea Austin Bring Old-School Jams to The Dinah

Legendary dance and R&B divas, Evelyn “Champagne” King and Thea Austin – two of the most acclaimed female soulful vocalists of the old school era – are the latest performers confirmed to join the star-studded Dinah entertainment line-up.

Friday will kick things off with the Annual TGIDF (Thank God It’s Dinah Friday) Pool Party at the Hilton hotel with an exclusive live performance by Evelyn “Champagne” King.  Keeping the party going and Palm Springs rocking until the very last day of the festival, Thea Austin – the former lead singer of the 90s hit making machine/Euro dance project Snap! – will take the stage at Zeldaz Nightclub for The Dinah’s official Closing Party.

Grammy Award-Winning R&B diva, Evelyn “Champagne” King first came to fame with the million-selling ’70s disco smashes “Shame” and “I Don’t Know if It’s Right.”

She was discovered by producer Theodore T. Life while singing at age 15 in the bathroom at Philly International Records, where her parents worked on the maintenance crew. When he overheard her singing he assured the girl he would make her a star.  And, he did.

For the next decade, Evelyn, who changed her childhood nickname “Bubbles” to “Champagne”, turned out a wide-ranging slew of hits including “I’m in Love,” “Love Come Down,” and “Betcha She Don’t Love You.  In 2004, her disco anthem “Shame” became one of the first records to be inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame.

King’s songs have not only all become classics but also must-have tunes on everyone’s old-school jams playlist!

The same goes for Thea Austin, -ex-front singer of the band Snap! – who took the world by storm with her sensational hits and dance floor favorites, “Rhythm is a Dancer”, “Colour of Love”, and “The Power”.  A force to be reckoned with, Snap! was at the forefront of revolutionizing dance/house music in the late 80’s/early 90’s.

When Thea left the band in 1993 she went on to pursue a successful solo career. Among her other memorable hits are the #1 “Then Came You” (with The Spinners) and the Grammy-winning “That’s What Friends Are For” (with Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder and Elton John). Overall, she’s garnered seven Top 40 singles, one platinum album, five gold albums and five Grammy Awards.

Thought The Dinah’s entertainment line up couldn’t get any bigger? Think again!

After all, what’s a party without some first class R&B?

Get your glad rags on and be ready to boogie down to some classic “good-time” tunes … old-school style!

Listen to “Christmastime Is Here”

The talented songstress caught the attention of fans and critics in 2012 for her astounding tribute to the legendary Whitney Houston. One of Sheléa’s biggest supporters, Stevie Wonder, was instrumental in booking her for a performance this past May at the White House for President and Michelle Obama honoring composers Burt Bacharach and Hal David with the Gershwin Prize.

Sheléa has lent her stellar vocals to various soundtrack projects including Hotel Rwanda, Akeelah and the Bee and Be Cool. The title track off her 2013 debut album Love Fell On Me was chosen as the musical theme for the film Jumping the Broom (Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Mike Epps) and features the iconic Stevie Wonder who adds his signature, lyrical harmonica licks to the track. Sheléa also wrote and produced two songs on Chanté Moore’s last album, Love the Woman, including the album’s single “It Ain’t Supposed to Be This Way.”

The stunning depth of Sheléa’s talent will be revealed with the release of her debut album, Love Fell On Me in early 2013. The album encompasses a classic blend of soul, R&B, and jazz, and captures the true essence of romance reminiscent of the greats Natalie Cole and Anita Baker. The lead single, “Seeing You,” showcases Sheléa’s vocal range and features actor Christian Keyes in the official music video.
