Jeffery Drag’s Natural Child releases their ‘CRS Blues’ 7″ today. They’re also heading down toSXSW this week.

Natural Child is the latest in a line of Nashville-based garage rock acts that includes JEFF the Brotherhood and PUJOL, but Natural Child has the distinction of being the sleaziest of the bunch. Their sleaze is an earnest sleaze— blues-rock in the vein of Beggars Banquet-era Rolling Stones, played with the sloppy grit of garage outfits such as the Oblivians.” — Consequence of Sound

“The guys in the Nashville band sing, ‘I don’t love you baby, I just love that ass,’ and remind us elsewhere that they ‘don’t wanna fuck, you, but I got to.’ They ooze with the kind of one-track mind that regularly makes rock and roll so damned great. It’s that not at all casual pursuit of hitting all of the pleasure centers at once. It’s that endless pursuit of the next party, the next girl and the next chance to black out. It’s that chasing of tail that leads young men to their guitarsmicrophones and dive bars. It’s what routinely keeps them there, pursuing until they’re well past their prime.”--Daytrotter

PUJOL Blasts Into Pittsburgh at Club Cafe 12/14

PUJOL, the charismatic Nashville rockers led by the idiosyncratic “philosopher king” Daniel Pujol, are coming to Pittsburgh on Friday, December 14th at Club Cafe – the band is known for their raucous, high-energy live set so this is one you should not miss.

Rolling Stone nailed their description of PUJOL’s music in a recent feature, noting it “shimmers with power pop hooks and a slight dose of fuzz” – their sound and electric stage presence has built a loyal fanbase and phenomenal reputation for the band.

PUJOL arose from the ashes of MEEMAW in 2009 to carry on the Nashvillian ideals of DIY and self construction through adeptly crafted songs based firmly in meaningful lyrical content. It’s these motives and songs that have taken PUJOL from the basements of Middle Tennessee to stages across the country and have garnered notice from more than just those with their ear to the ground.

Releasing a plethora of singles and cassettes over the past two years on Jack White’s Third Man Records, Nashville’s Infinity Cat Recordings and Turbo Time Records among others, PUJOL has now partnered with Omaha’s Saddle Creek. Following the critically praised Nasty, Brutish, and Short EP from last year, PUJOL finally has an official debut full-length ready for unveiling. UNITED STATES OF BEING continues on with PUJOL’s doctrine of trying hard everyday and ventures lyrically to a place that most contemporaries fail to reach. Addressing the current status of twenty-somethings in America’s present and capturing their shared dispositions, the album throws the brakes on “catharsis,” and begs the listener to decide for themselves how to answer the robot’s last question, “What is love?” With riff-oriented guitar playing reminiscent of greats like The Replacements and Beetlejuice-esque earworms, PUJOL now sits atop the fringes of the rock and roll and DIY vernacular.

Whether this strange world chooses to embrace PUJOL is of no matter, as the prolific frontman will continue to carry on as always – Taking Care of Business 24/7. The adrenalized, infectious debut full-length, UNITED STATES OF BEING, is out now on Saddle Creek.

Quotes /

“They’ve got a gritty, garage-band sound, but with guitar riffs and catchy hooks that are hard to resist.” NYLON

“This madman of rock ‘n’ roll speaks like a young philosopher king.” Spinner

“Some twang and a skipped beat now and then, with a little self-revelation in the lyrics.” NY Times

“Shimmers with power pop hooks and a slight dose of fuzz.” Rolling Stone

Frenchkiss Label Group Adds Four New Labels

Jeffery Drag Records

Jeffery Drag Records was formed in early 2009 by Adam Moult, frontman of Nashville based band Bad Cop. The label was originally founded to release limited pressings of cassettes and vinyl for Bad Cop and other various acts including The Hussy, Pujol, and Little Viking. In 2011, Bad Cop bass player Mike Gicz joined the Jeffery Drag team, overseeing cassette releases from Ranch Ghost, Electric Dollhouse Groovebuggy, and Majestico. The third and final member of Jeffery Drag is R.J. Jennings. The label has grown tremendously, adding Natural Child, Useless Eaters, and Ghost Dance to the roster. Jeffery Drag Records is continuing to grow on a daily basis and has quickly become a name brand for groundbreaking rock and roll music in Nashville and across the country.

Analog Edition Records

Analog Edition Records was founded as a reaction: our favorite new artist of 2010, Blake Mills, didn’t exist on our favorite medium, the vinyl record. So we pressed one. Since March of 2011, Analog Edition’s goal has been to help elevate the best music we encounter through the vast digital abyss of the internet by pressing it into personalized analog homes. To date, the label has put out releases by Mills, Stone Darling, Breakfast In Fur, and Lands & Peoples. Now based in Washington, DC, Analog Edition is set to release its first local release: the debut EP from fuzz-slopping ear-worming trio Teen Mom.
