IVORY BLUE lived a nomadic existence until settling in Kansas City, MO and becoming part of the local musical community. After winning a nationwide talent contest in 2017 Ivory Blue started having success with some national and international radio play which continues today.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Ivory began refining their performance style, using digital looping pedals to stack harmonies and guitar parts live on stage, giving their solo shows the feel of a full band. In 2011, Ivory settled in Kansas City, MO and quickly began attracting an intense regional following for their strong vocals and incisive, deeply personal lyrics.

By 2013, IVORY BLUE was playing regularly in and around Kansas City and the first EP Ready Get Set was released. in 2015. While the EP helped spread the word and got much attention from regional radio and TV stations, a big break would come in 2017.

Ivory entered NeXt2Rock, a nationwide talent search with over 1800 artists/bands who applied to find fresh and promising rock artists.

The top 5 national bands battled it off for the win in Los Angeles CA at the legendary Viper Room, with judges Scott Borchetta (BMLG), John Varvatos (fashion designer), Steve Jones (Sex Pistols Guitarist and Host of “Jonesy’s Jukebox”), Desmond Child (Musician, producer), Chris Lord-Alge (producer), Ivory Blue won over the judges and became the grand prize winner!

Ivory won the contest and a one-year record deal with BMLG who re-released the song “Ready Get Set” from the 2015 EP. Ivory’s 2018 re-release of “Ready Get Set” undauntedly received National and International airplay within weeks.

In February 2020 and after studying the craft of recording and self-producing, this amazing singer-songwriter with soaring vocals, passionate love for everyone struggling through life, released “Elite Dreamland.” There are no words to describe the incredible artistry behind this song. a single that hits your heart about understanding how it feels to be misunderstood in a world of people that seem to know what they are doing.

IVORY BLUE produces all the tracks except for Drums and Bass. Ivory is currently working with Lester Estelle (Drummer for Kelly Clarkson), Craig Kew (Bass), Kurt Festge (Mastering | Citizen Kane & Violent Femmes) and Nick Poortman (LA based Producer, Engineer, Mixer, and Songwriter). Nick has worked alongside producers including Justin GrayGil NortonBig Tank, and Greg Haver on sessions throughout the USA, UK, Europe, and New Zealand.

On August 18th, 2021, Ivory Blue signed a publishing deal with Sound Ballistics Music & Publishing out of Atlanta, GA.

Brooklyn artist Yoke Lore (formerly of Yellerkin and Walk the Moon) supporting Handsome Ghost at Cattivo on Thursday, December 15

Brooklyn project Yoke Lore is the new musical venture ofyoke-lore-by-wes-alexAdrian Galvin, previously of Yellerkin and Walk the Moon.

Yoke Lore layers the harmonies of Panda Bear, the soulful beats of M83, and the modern pop of Blackbird Blackbird to tell “the stories of how we are bound.” Galvin’s songs start with the folksy timbre of a banjo and add echoing waves of vocals and percussion to create unforgettable pop music with tactile sincerity and conviction.

Galvin grew up in an artistic family, his mother a director and his father an actor and sculptor. He was immersed in painting, photography, and ballet from an early age, eventually finding his first musical passion in the drums. While pursuing music, his artistry in other disciplines has not faltered, even lending his own artwork as the cover of his debut EP, Far Shore.

When he’s not writing and recording new music, Galvin can be found teaching yoga or performing with his modern dance company Boomerang in Brooklyn.

The pop trio, known as Before You Exit, have exclusively released their video for hit single, “Soldier”, on RadioDisney.comhere:http://bit.ly/1eUjkH1Directed by Martin and Oscar Ubilluz from MU2 Productions, the band tells us “Ever since this song came out we have received some of the most amazing and heartfelt letters telling us how this song has truly affected and changed people’s lives. Some would say how they were going through hard times at home or at school and just listening to “Soldier” reminded them that there is hope. This song and video mean so much to us and we really hope it does to others too.”

The band has also announced Plug In Stereo as direct support for their upcoming The Dangerous Tour starting in Raleigh, NC on March 18th. The band released their new EP, I Like That, last February with their latest single, the title track, recently peaking at #4 on Radio Disney Top 30 Countdown. When you combine the creative intuition of musical brothers with the wisdom and input of chart-topping songwriters, you get an album of finely crafted pop bursting with spirited authenticity. Though the three brothers in Before You Exit were just in their teens, they had the talent, sophistication, and confidence to find their distinct pop-rock aesthetic through writing with such songwriting heavyweights. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit:www.BeforeYouExit.com.

The Orlando, Florida-based band of brothers have been playing ever since they were little. The group consists of Connor McDonough, 20, (Vocals/Guitar), Riley McDonough, 18, (Vocals), and younger brother Toby McDonough, 16, (Vocals/Guitar) and they’ve already began to make their mark on the world.

With their most recent EP, I Like That, the three brothers have crafted a soaring pop album of uplifting relationship songs that effortlessly blend sharp hooks with bright and buoyant rock.“We were searching for a sound, and wrote with as many people as we could. It helped us grow and write better songs. For this album we wrote 30 to 40 songs and picked our favorites,” Riley McDonough says. The band drew inspiration and wrote songs from sessions with such seasoned vets as Robert Ellis Orall (Taylor Swift), Dan Book and Alexei Misoul (Hot Chelle Rae), Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), Bobby Huff, and Stephen Barker Liles (Love and Theft). The album standout and first single, “I Like That”, is a tune with tenderly romantic lyrics and big pop-rock beat. Ryan Daly and Anthony Improgo, along with Connor McDonough, produced the album. “They really listened to what we wanted to do and let us try out our ideas, no matter how crazy,” Connor says laughing. “Because of that, we feel really connected to the way the recording turned out,” Riley adds. The group is even more excited for the release of their brand new music coming soon!

With Before You Exit’s release, the I Like That EP, the bandhas been critically acclaimed by the likes of MTV, J-14, Seventeen, Radio Disney, Teen, Teen Vogue, Popstar!, Just Jared, just to name a few. The band has also toured/played with high profile acts such as Cody Simpson, Olly Murs, The Wanted, Fifth Harmony, and even the Jonas Brothers.

Conjuring up the optimism in the band’s name-inspired by the sentiment “make a difference before you exit“- the band works daily to make their way to the top but they never fail to stop and appreciate what has got them thus far.“There’s no way we’d be anywhere without our incredible fans. They are behind us every step of the way and are a huge piece of this band,” states youngest brother, Toby. In light of the many short lived and fly by night artists, this young, singer/songwriting, brother driven band, is one to be around for a while.

Listen to Neneh Cherry’s “Out of the Black” featuring Robyn

Last fall, Neneh Cherry made an exciting announcement – she was returning with her first album of solo material in more than 16 years. A collaboration with RocketNumberNine, and produced by Four Tet, the ten-track album, titled Blank Projectwas recorded and mixed in five days. Today, Neneh reveals the lead single, “Out of the Black” featuring kindred spirit Robyn.

“Out of the Black” features Neneh and Robyn harmonizing together and throwing lines back and forth. Production by Four Tet and minimal synth and drum work by RocketNumberNine underpin the sweet vocal work of the two iconic Swedish artists. Before now, the two have been vocal about inspiring each other, with Robyn covering Neneh’s songs in her live shows.

One need only check the history of Neneh putting a subversive foot forward and letting popular music catch up. Growing up around father Don Cherry‘s friends Miles Davis and Allen Ginsburg, she launched her solo career with a Falkland’s protest song called “Stop The War.” In the early 80s, she was in the pioneering multi-ethnic, anarchic, post-punk group,Rip Rig + Panic; she brought hip-hop culture to a British audience with “Buffalo Stance”(redefining cool by performing pregnant on “Top of the Pops”) and had the first global hit to feature the Senegalese language, Wolof, “7 Seconds.” With “Out of the Black” featuring Robyn and a remix by dance floor maven Joe Goddard (Hot Chip2Bears) still to come, Neneh is emerging out of the black with another vital blast of buzzing cold music.

Fresh off the success of her premier single, pop singer/songwriter Lauren Winans released her second single, “Better At Breaking,” Jan. 21. The song is Lauren’s first ballad, released off of her forthcoming EP.  Check it out here:

Written by Lauren, her producer Steffon Hamulak (Steel Magnolia), and Emily Shackleton James (whose songs have been featured on the hit series, Nashville), “Better At Breaking” is a departure from the energetic and girl-power attitude Lauren is known for. “I wanted to express my softer side with this song and show that I’m vulnerable, too,” Lauren said.
“Better At Breaking” tells the lovelorn story of a woman known to be a heartbreaker herself when the tables are turned, and her boyfriend leaves her crying. Lauren’s powerful voice expresses the gut-wrenching emotion caused by heartbreak and the powerlessness that follows.
Featuring a strong keyboard presence, Lauren traveled to Los Angeles for Season 5 The Voice finalist Will Champlin to play keys on the song. “What a great experience to have Will lend his amazing talent to the recording,” Lauren exclaimed. “It was great to see him get noticed on The Voice because he is such an incredible talent!” “Better at Breaking,” available on iTunes and Amazon, is the follow-up to Lauren’s fun and flirty hit
“You’re Gonna Luv It.” That song placed in the Top 40 of iTunes New Releases, and the video gleaned fan attention with more than 50,000 views in its first month.

Lauren Winans moved to Nashville in 2010 to pursue her dream of pop stardom. Since then, she has had the opportunity to work with some of the best in the industry to make her dreams come true. A lover of all things girly, Lauren has garnered the attention of several organizations in the beauty and fashion industry who have become sponsors, namely LuLus.com, Lavish Lashes, Donna Bella Hair, Hot Spot Tanning/Norvell Sunless, Lash Lady of Franklin, Image Skincare and Gypsy 05. SeneGence/LipSense International chose Lauren to create her own custom lip color, which she donned “Luv It” after her first pop release.

New Video From Electro Duo Juniore: “Christine”

Upcoming NYC Shows This February

“Beguiling beats and an ultra-sexy voice” – PopMatters

In anticipation of the full-length album they will release this year, Parisian duo Juniore has released the video for “Christine” via PopMatters, a song that serves as an ode to killing time while waiting for the night to come.  Watch  HERE.

With Cat(power)-like grace, Anna sings of being sleep deprived, restless or falling out of love. Seemingly caught in a time warp suspended somewhere between a world ofscopitones, two-stroke engines and voyages to the Moon, and a more gritty,Tarantino-esque cityscape laced with cars and girls, her mysterious voice, reminiscent of 60s muses (Nico meets Françoise Hardy) is at once haunting and rhythmic, propelled by sensual, reverb-drenched melodies, and misleadingly upbeat harmonies.

Produced by Samy Osta (La Femme), Juniore will be released by the Entreprise Records, the label at the epicenter of an exciting new wave of Parisian indie-pop that includes Moodoid (which Kevin Parker from Tame Impala has a hand in) and Blind Digital Citizen.

New Juniore album coming in 2014

Pittsburgh native Anthony Rankin’s “Love Elektrik” is eclectic power pop

Nashville’s Anthony Rankin has released his latest EP, Love Elektrik, on September 3rd. Give these four power-tracks a listen if you like to dance to hip-moving pop music and you’re not afraid of having a good time under an influence or two – whether it be romance or whiskey. His soaring vocals match up perfectly with steady beats and soulful breakdowns. Rankin makes his music for everyone. “They could be 80 years old or a junior with no date to the prom. I strive to write music for those people, who have really deep feelings they can’t get away from (because that’s me, too).” Honest, bold, and full of a dreamer’s spirit, Rankin is sure to be heard everywhere from club dance floors to your girlfriend’s shower, as she sings all the words into her loofah.

Maybe you haven’t heard his music before, but that doesn’t mean you haven’t heard his songs. He’s written country pop songs that broke the Top 100 of the national Medibase Country chart and his guitar playing was featured on popular video game Guitar Hero 5.  He’s played venues as big as the Berkman Ampitheather and First Niagara Pavilion and as small as local coffee shops throughout Pennsylvania, where he was raised. You may have heard him on the radio, at a local festival, during the Borders Books & Music Tour back in 2007 or playing lead guitar on tour with Country superstar Randy Houser. He’s received more credit for his writing than his own music and vocals, but now he’s ready to take his seat as the driver on his own musical journey.

Rankin’s music fits the pop mold very well and could sit on the shelf next to Maroon 5 or Rob Thomas easily.  What makes Rankin stand out a bit is his lyricism, evident in tunes such as opener “Two Glasses” that paints a scene that many an unrequited lover has experienced for themselves.  Other standouts on Love Elektrik include “Name in the Stars” which is a nice piano based ballad that has a moody and contemplative feel as well as “Lexi J” which gets a bit funky while retaining some rock edge à la Prince.  The result of the EP is a nice amalgamation of an eclectic sampling of what Rankin can produce which is power pop in various modes.  What might improve Rankin’s musicianship is some much needed production that does not feel so ‘electronic’.  He clearly does not need to be so overly ‘canned’ and 80’s synthed-out to see where his talents lie, but if this type of ‘Miami Vice’ type sound continues on some of the tracks he will keep himself in the back of the bin and behind the scenes.  This Pittsburgh native has true talent and it will be exciting to see where he takes his many skills as he applies them to his own music and career as his projects come to light.

Anoushka Shankar Debuts “Traces of You” Video Feat. Norah Jones

Track & Video Features Norah Jones, Watch  HERE

New Album Traces Of You Available October 22nd via Deutsche Grammophon

Anoushka Shankar’s seventh album, Traces of You is set for release October 22, 2013on Deutsche Grammophon. Visually stunning, the clip was directed by Shankar’s husband, acclaimed filmmaker Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Anna Karenina), and stars her half-sister Norah Jones, who also guests on three Traces Of You album tracks. You can watch the video courtesy of VEVO HERE.

Shankar’s new album marks a significant step along her pathway as a musician and woman. The musical exploration on Traces of You was inspired by the idea that everything in the universe leaves an indelible mark, or a subtle “trace,” on everything else it comes into contact with.

Having lost her legendary father, Ravi Shankar, during the recording process, it was inevitable that her loss became the central focus of the song writing. However, the record is ultimately hopeful rather than mournful; a juxtaposition of the sorrow surrounding the loss of her father alongside the joy of raising her young son, Zubin.Traces of You was conceived as a unified concept and an unending circle, from the first track to the last.

“I approached the album as a whole,” she explains, “as opposed to a series of songs. A lot of it happened unconsciously. Life took a journey of its own and the music followed that form. The sitar leads the listener through the album like a narrator.”
Shankar is one of the leading figures in World Music today. In her twenties, after establishing herself as one of the foremost classical sitarists on the world’s stage, she began thriving as a composer, exploring fertile ground in the crossover between Indian music and a variety of genres including flamenco, jazz, electronica and Western classical music.

Among various accolades she has been nominated for three Grammy® Awards, making her the first Indian female and youngest-ever nominee in the World Music category. As a classical sitarist she debuted professionally at the age of thirteen and has performed in prestigious venues such as Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall (over a dozen times), and championed her father’s orchestral works with the world’s leading orchestras.  In 2011 Anoushka signed to the prestigious classical music label Deutsche Grammophon, and released her sixth album, the Grammy-nominated Traveller. Maxine Ashley Releases “Glory Box” Video

Maxine Ashley premiered the video for her R&B reimagining of Portishead’s classic “Glory Box” on Noisey UK. Watch the  video here. A seductive elegance comes off Maxine as she begins her soul-stirring rendition of the song in a grand foyer, the black and white film underscoring the splendor and a knowing look in Maxine’s eye. As the rhythm explodes, the screen bursts into color and Maxine takes the song to a different place no one else can create. The video was directed by JL Brown.  “Glory Box” is the first video from her forthcoming Mood Swings EP presented by Krucial Noise, which will be released digitally on Tuesday, September 17.  The EP features production by Kerry “Krucial” Brothers and Pharrell Williams.

Bronx-born Maxine Ashley is a soulful & sassy 20-year-old misfit with a mesmerizing voice and a rebel spirit. She defies conventions with her adventurous music and style, loves the Smiths as much as Beyonce, and refuses to keep her big mouth shut! Her YouTube Channel has over 9,000,000 views of her spellbinding covers of R&B hits recorded in her bedroom. Maxine’s magnetic performances in the videos soon made fans and champions out of fellow artists like Pharrell Williams and Lil Wayne, both of whom recorded with her. Maxine has traded her bedroom for the studios of New York and London where she’s developed a cosmopolitan mix of urban pop, R&B, electronic music, and soul that is undoubtedly from New York but ready for the world. Her guest appearance on Italian DJ Alex Gaudino’s single, “I’m in Love”, for Ministry of Sound was a smash hit with radio and club DJs across Europe. She also had a track handpicked by Lanvin to soundtrack the fashion label’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Mood Swings EP out September 17.

The Starfolk Premiere ‘Sleeping Without Dreaming’ On Pop Matters

Listen To ‘The Great Unknown’ At Pure Volume!

Read An Interview With The Starfolk And Listen To ‘Sleeping Without Dreaming’ At Pop Matters!

The Starfolk began as a chance for Brian Tighe (The Hang Ups) to develop new material with his wife/collaborator Allison LaBonne (The Owls, Typsy Panthre) and to work again with fellow Hang Ups co-founder Stephen Ittner. “I had a new batch of songs and when Stephen agreed to sit in on drums, my inspiration really ignited,” says Tighe.

In The Hang Ups, Tighe had honed his songwriting chops by questing after songs that would please Ittner, an exceedingly tough critic. “When Stephen liked one of my songs, I knew I had something,” says Tighe. With his new material Tighe wanted to draw from the foundation that had launched The Hang Upsto the forefront of the Minneapolis music scene years before. “I’m still fascinated by unusual chord progressions,” he muses, “and I still strive to write melodies beautiful enough to make my voice seem beautiful by singing them.”

What had evolved in his songwriting was a lyrical maturity, and a darker, more urgent and experimental sonic palette.  This experimental attitude found its perfect complement in cellist Jacqueline Ultan(Jelloslave, Saltee), who was invited to join them for their first radio performance.“There was only one song I initially imagined cello on, but we invited Jacqueline to play on all three, and were struck by the results,” Tighe says.  “Jacqueline brings such variety and dynamics to the songs.  Sometimes she is a texture, a pulse, and sometimes she soars as a major melodic theme.”

It took the group four years—longer than they ever imagined—to cultivate these songs into finished recordings. “We were just getting our bearings collaboratively, and we all had other musical involvements,” says Tighe. Among these are The Owls who have a new record in the works, andJeremy Messersmith with whom Tighe helped make two records in the meantime.

Aside from this active collaborative docket, sometimes it was Tighe’s inner conflicts that slowed progress on The Starfolk’s debut full length. “It’s been an angsty few years,” Tighe says.  “When you’ve been writing songs as long as I have, you are forced to keep re-establishing with yourself why you’re doing this.  You need to draw from a deeper well.  It took this long to feel like I’m capturing where I’m at as a songwriter.”

The sound resulting from this depths probe is palpably heavier than Tighe’s back catalog.  But the dirty guitar riffs and insistent rhythms are interspersed with angelic moments where Tighe unveils some of his most McCartney-esque melody writing; steeped in lush, eerie harmonies and elegant, economical arrangements. LaBonne contributes three songs that add dimension to the record; her urgent pulses and chilling vocals seem to work on a different part of the brain. “People are saying she’s the rocker of the band,” Tighe says, “but in an intelligent way.  Her songs add a lot of excitement.”

Praise For The Starfolk:

“[They] freely acknowledge [90’s counterpoints] on their eponymous debut, each song completely changing the songwriting style to reflect a different moment. The band goes through these styles with ease, roping influences together while still keeping things grounded with their acoustic sensibilities and all-around great tunes.” — Pop Matters

“LaBonne’s disaffected vocals are reminiscent of Elephant Six stalwarts Dressy Bessy – a melancholy daydream with a bubblegum center.” — Reviler

“The present iteration of Tighe’s Anglophilia lands him somewhere near the land of The Left Banke in the time of The Three O’Clock, and that’s the kind of music that gets me all fired up with religious fervour.” –The Big Takeover

“The Starfolk provided an amicable shambling chamber pop approach that stood on its own and reinforced the perception that The Hang Ups were sadly underrated in their time.”–Popstache

Princess Music Streams Debut Album “Odobenidae” Out September 3rd

Stream “Odobenidae” exclusively @ The Wild Honey Pie!

“…there is no higher praise I can think of than comparing anyone to Andrew Bird… They also have a whiff of Sufjan Stevens when they go slow but expansive, and a sniff of Vampire Weekend when they hint there’s some funk in their trunk. The music is complex without being too clever-clever, and lush without drifting too far into the wafty ethereal fairy den.” – Drowned in Sound

“With sweeping arrangements, powerful pop embellishments and a knack for combining modern musicianship with a respect for instrumental mastery, Princess Music have created a stunning success with their upcoming album Odobenidae.” – The Wild Honey Pie

In support of their upcoming debut album titled “Odobenidae” out September 3rd on Hot Congress Records, Denver composer Tyler Ludwick and the crew in Princess Music have premiered a stream of their entire new album exclusively at TheWildHoneyPie.com.

Princess Music is comprised of five musicians that play with chamber orchestras of varying size. The group is fronted by Tyler Ludwick, who orchestrates playful complexities and rich harmonies with a mixture of expertise and mirth. He applies his classical finger-style to an electric guitar, composition skills to string and woodwind textures, and passion for percussion to the polyrhythmic and irregular meters of the music. Princess Music displays high emotional and intellectual IQ and expresses poignant narratives found within the arrangements, which embody subtle pop sensibilities that create a sanctuary for even the most casual listener.

Princess Music began as a humble project of composer Tyler Ludwick. It has since become a tonal hologram crafted from his obsession with walruses and orchestral music. Equipped with a desire to convey purity, passion, and the power of the chamber orchestra, Princess Music is releasing their debut album, Odobenidae. Odobenidae is fashioned as a song-cycle of eight pieces, undulating between the dungeonesque depths of classic rock grime, and the playful heights of bantering woodwinds and strings. It is sonically sewn together to form the chimerical world of the walrus. Never lacking in drama or caprice, Princess Music has crafted an album intent on mirroring the nature of our lives.

Long time manager of Talk Talk and Mark Hollis, Keith Aspden, is now representing Princess Music in the UK & Europe. For inquiries, contact him directly through the band’s website or Facebook pages linked below.

Drew Price’s Bermuda Triangle Premieres ‘SSP’ Video On Prefix

Watch ‘SSP’ On Prefix!

“Whenever I listen to SSP I’m struck by how danceable it is while at the same time seeming to move at a glacial pace. It’s a heavy song that seems to have it’s own special gravity.  I knew I wanted to film things falling, flowing, and exploding in slow motion to match the huge washes of guitar and bass in the track, and I was fortunate enough to have access to a RED Epic video camera to shoot this project at 250 frames per second, slowing reality down to about 1/10th its normal speed. Although there is digital compositing and animation in this music video, none of what you see is computer-generated. For the painted body effect I constructed a paper mache sculpture of Drew and poured dozens of cups of paint over it, then animated the figure in After Effects to sync with Drew’s body movements. This was a really rewarding creative project to work on and I think we were able to create something bizarre and beautiful to fit the spirit of Drew’s record.” — ‘SSP’ Director, Dustin Timbrook

Twenty-three year old Birmingham, Alabama native Drew Price is a wholehearted pop artist. His music doesn’t demand anything from you, but it offers everything. Since 2008, he has self-produced three full-length albums that have been distributed and shared for free via the Internet.

He prefers to write and record alone, and his music reflects that. Drew’s music represents the post-Internet era of personality conflict and identity crisis.

After engaging with his music, you will find a genuine understanding of something universally desired: good pop music.

Montevallo, Alabama’s Happenin Records will be digitally releasing his newest full-length album “Friends and Family” on September 10. “F&F” is severely catchy but full of emotion, offering psychedelic interpretations of shoegaze, rock, dream pop, and house. If you give it a listen, you too will find yourself in the midst of an identity crisis.

Praise For DPBT:

“Drew Price’s Bermuda Triangle has delivered an enthralling fuzzed out single with “SSP.” He reconstructs the idea of pop music with the track and fuels it with an ocean of distortion that gives the song an isolated feel” — Prefix Magazine

Skewed ultra-melodic psychedelic pop music”–Vice [UK]

“Devoid of all but the most simplistic and submerged vocalizations, “SSP” tosses quick streaks of bright synths across a desolate backdrop, drawing in curious listeners before collapsing abruptly inward. This may not be pop as we know it, but Price has opened up whole new worlds to get lost in.” –Consequence Of Sound

“These are the sounds that lurk at the back of your mind, a mish mash of half-forgotten tracks melded together to create something different and challenging, beautiful at times and worrying at others.” — The Pigeon Post

Aritzia Magazine (the editorial offshoot of fashion retailer Aritzia) has just released their self-produced vignette featuring HAERTS’ latest song “All The Days.” Shot in Los Angeles, the clip recreates a typical southern California salsa dancehall and explores the partnerships and shared histories of the dancing couples. The choreography by Khalia Frazier and cinematography by Todd Banhazl enrich the lush, deliberate movements and seamlessly interconnect the music to create emotional visuals.  The clip was directed byBridget Palardy and features clothing and styling by Aritzia. You can see it here http://bit.ly/haertsallthedays.

HAERTS is a band based in New York hailing from Germany, England, and the United States. The group consists of Nini Fabi, Ben Gebert, Garrett Ienner, Derek McWilliams, and Jonathan Schmidt. The band’s first single, “Wings,” was produced in collaboration with Jean-Philip Grobler (aka St. Lucia). HAERTS’ debut album is due in 2013.

Late last year, the band revealed their first song “Wings” and an unofficial video for the track HERE. In April, they collaborated with Emily Kai Bock for the gorgeous official“Wings” video.  The band has shared their upcoming album live on tours with Shout Out Louds and Atlas Genius and will join Fitz And The Tantrums later this month.

Recent praise for HAERTS:

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers Give Pittsburgh a Night Full of Hits

Tom Petty looks like he is having the time of his life.  And why wouldn’t he be?  The guy is seriously a musical legend walking among us and living the dream.  Playing a packed Pittsburgh Consol Energy Center last night, June 20, 2013 to a crowd that ran from septuagenarian to tweenager, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers proved why they are Rock N Roll Hall of Famers.  Even though not a huge Petty fan, this writer was stunned at how many songs I was singing along every word to without any thought at all.  Tom Petty is a part of Americana and is intertwined into the very fabric of our musical history, thus being my main motivation to see this phenom.  But, the man and his band do not disappoint for all the right reasons.  The sparse stage filled with vintage equipment was carefully  highlighted only by necessity lighting and two big screens up top for the back rows.  Otherwise it was all classic rock n roll output with very little stage banter other than Petty telling the crowd ‘what a great day (he) had in Pittsburgh’ and ‘that (he) hoped that the crowd was in for a long night because he didn’t have anything to do for a few hours’ (add in your own thunderous applause).  There really is no criticism to be had here.  After honing your craft for close to 40 years you come to expect that, but the point is Petty lives up to it every night and still loves what he does and does not go around bitching about it, something a few younger bands could take note of.  After Petty (and Elvis) left the building last night Petty made one more fan that night, proving after all these years the man is still doing his job.  There’s a lot to be said for that.

Joey Groon Premieres “Let It Go” on PGHMUSICMAG

Listen here to the new single “Let It Go”!

Your new single “Let It Go”, which will be released July 1st, what is it about?
It’s about how to let go on old anger and frustrations from old relationships. So that you can go into a new one with a clearer mind. I think the main reason why I even wrote it was to get even with a lot of my own history. It’s very melancholic, minimalistic and haiku’ish in its lyrics, which suits the quite demanding beat very well. And the fact that it’s a typical club/R&B-hit gives it that old disco flavour and theme about unrequited love, just as Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”.

Your new single “Let It Go” is highly influenced by the genres R&B/Pop, what are your artistic preferences?
My preferences lie in the classic Soul-genre actually. Marvin Gaye and his “Midnight Lady” album has highly influenced my use of Synthetic drums and Synthesizers. But the reason why R&B began to influence me was not that every other pop artist work in the R&B/Pop area today, but simply the fact that the R&B music suited my way of expressing myself and my crooning voice. In Denmark the R&B genre is not that common as the Rock/Pop genres are. So I suddenly found an area of pop-music I felt was my own, my home. And in Denmark I had the time to explore it and what my angle were to it. I think there is a big misconception in Northern Europe that R&B/Pop music aren’t as well accepted as other genres. Due to the fact that in Denmark we’re raised with a certain Folk/Acoustic music. The R&B/Pop and even Soul music is a set of genres that most of the older generations only were raised with through the transatlantic radio stations. If you ment influences for this specific single “Let It Go”, I’d say David Bowie. Or a certain mix between David Bowie, Stevie Wonder and Pharrell Williams. Haha!

All the way from Denmark, Europe to the U.S, that must be quite a cultural journey?
It sure is, did you know there is more than 3,856 miles between these two countries? Furthermore the population of Denmark is only approx. 5 million people, which could easily be a small state in the U.S. So it is quite a journey, and it has surely opened my eyes. I think the transformation from a small European musician to an International artist is a journey that needs a lot of preparation, so it’s not easy to say if I’d succeed or not. I just stay open-minded.

Your collaboration with U2 Producer Pete Maher; How Did That Happen?
My agent Donnie Osborne helped me reach out to Pete Maher. His first mastering job was my song “Maybe September” from my “Maybe September – EP” released this year as well. I find Pete Maher’s positivity and his encouraging attitude very helpful during the mixing process! His roster of U2, The Rolling Stones and many more surely is well deserved.

Can you mention one thing we don’t know about Denmark?
We have one of the oldest royal families of Europe, haha!

Listen To New Arp Song, “More (Blues)” | Arp To Release New Album, MORE

“Grace,” the poet Frank O’Hara once wrote, “to be born and live as variously as possible.” Though early in his musical career, this ambitious but certainly worthy aspiration toward “variousness” might be said to be the defining characteristic behind the artistic output of Alexis Georgopoulos, aka Arp.

After all, not many people can claim to have curated and performed at New York’s downtown bastion of the avant-garde, The Kitchen, to have been DJ’ed by NY underground disco pioneer David Mancuso, to have soundtracked a Chanel runway show per Karl Lagerfeld‘s request and to have released an album of minimalistic classical music, Arp & Anthony Moore’s FRKWYS 3 (2010, RVNG Intl).

After touring his 2010 solo album, The Soft Wave, a New York Times’ “overlooked highlight” of 2010, Georgopoulos took a break from performing live, choosing instead to work on projects in the worlds of art and modern dance, creating sound installations at the Walker Art Center for architect/designers ROLU, making a conceptual Flexi-Disc 7″ for White Zinfandel magazine, contributing a track for a Sol Lewitttribute album, scoring a dance piece for Merce Cunningham dancer Jonah Bokaer, and most recently, performing a site-specific collaboration with visual artist Tauba Auerbach at Philip Johnson’s Glass House, to be released in late August on LP/CD as ERRATICS by RVNG Intl.

Although The Soft Wave may be his most-heard album so far, Georgopoulos’ collaboration with Englishman Anthony Moore may provide more appropriate background for MORE. Not merely content to espouse the voguish sounds of the day, Georgopoulos decided early in 2012 that he’d abandon his analog synthesizer-centric abstractions in favor of something he’d never previously done, write songs. The better to challenge himself. As such, with MORE, he has made his first album-length foray into song. The 12 pieces that make up MORE might best be heard as distinct scenes in a single film. And this being his first New York album, the city figures in significantly, both in scale and in character.

Perhaps best described as a pop album by an avant-garde musician, MORE is an album that begins in one place and ends in another, melding bedroom art-pop with avant-garde composition to create a world of heady atmospherics and melodic song craft over its concentrated 46 minute arc. Played almost entirely by Georgopoulos, MORE reveals an impressive grasp of style and vision, following a distinct narrative, dipping into 70s art rock, autumnal baroque pop, musique concréte, minimalistic piano epics, narcotic gospel, sound library atmospheres, and delicate space folk. For a taste of what MORE has to offer, listen to album track,“More (Blues),” which suggests a stoned choirboy fronting a gospel church group, Georgopoulos’ delicate delivery melding with the song’s narcotic sway.

MORE establishes Georgopoulos not as a stylistic shapeshifter but rather as a restless artist not content to stay put. Like a visual artist who works on a particular body of work within a larger body of work, he makes albums as complete wholes. And then he makes another. If MORE seems like quite a different beast fromThe Soft Wave or FRKWYS 3, as the dust settles, they will reveal an artist who follows his own trajectory, regardless of trend. If MORE proves we do not know what Georgopoulos might do next, his work is all the more compelling for it.

“simultaneously fleet-footed and humid, which lends the album a distinctly tropical vibe . . . Overwhelming, yes, but beauty needs to be tempered with noise sometimes.” – Pitchfork

“Just missing our 2010 Best Of list is this analog beaut of kosmische flow motion from Alexis Georgopoulos. Despite nods to Eno, Rother and Riley, his groove has a luminescence all of its own.” – MOJO

“Easily one of the best local releases of the year. Ethereal, expansive, extroverted and quixotic.” – Village Voice

Bands as emotive and enduring as Tunng don’t come around too often. Across their decade together, the group have honed their pastoral pop to perfection, winning over audiences and critics one rustic twang of guitar, icy electronic echo and sumptuous whisper of vocals at a time to become one of Britain’s most championed underground forces – fitting for an act who began literally underground, in the basement of a Soho women’s clothing boutique some ten years ago.

Now their success story is set to continue with the release of fifth studio album Turbines on June 18th on Full Time Hobby in America, their most bewitching and brilliant listen yet. “It’s been a twisted adventure to this point, one that has taken us all over the world, an amazing journey,” grins instrumentalist and founding member Mike Lindsay. As the band has evolved and grown, so too has its members. “There’s a lot happened in this band in the last couple of years” he adds. “Children born, people moving into different places, falling in love, skipping country, broadening horizons…  maybe this is a coming-of-age record!”

Recorded mainly in a Dorset studio this is the first Tunng album where all six members were more or less all present at each stage of the recording process. Bar an excursion to album engineer and vintage equipment expert Ben ‘Benge’ Edwards’ “synth museum” to add electronic embellishments. It’s an album rich in colour and emotion, from the geyser-like organ eruptions of By This to the trip-hop grooves and thunderous timpani of Trip Trap and Heavy Rock Warning. “I remember thinking that this album would go full circle and match the first record in its experimentalism. But that didn’t happen.” Instead came Tunng’s most direct and affecting effort to date. “It’s more concise,” says Winter. “It’s just the essentials, delivered straight.”

“It’s our sci-fi folk rock album,” declares Lindsay, who stresses the key to Turbines’ enchanting charm is the sense of family among its creators. “We have been through a lot together, seen some amazing places and some pretty bad places too… and it’s time to see some more!”

Azar Swan releases digital 7″ via Pendu Sound, streams “In My Mouth” with BlackBook

 “In My Mouth”
<< STREAM // BUY >>

“With a spring-coiled beat, cold synth stabs, and bells that could ring in doomsday, you’re definitely poised above an abyss, sexual or otherwise.” – BlackBook
TODAY Azar Swan release the “In My Mouth” digital 7″ with Pendu Sound, the fiery a-side streaming with BlackBook Magazine (link) and available to purchase on iTunes along with moodier b-side“Over” (available only on iTunes) with above eerie album art was created by friend and musicianShaun Durkan (Weekend).  The release is part of Pendu Single Series, which includes releases this year from Tempers and VON HAZE.

Formerly the core members of  Religious To DamnZohra Atash and Joshua Strawn (Vaura, Blacklist) changed gears early this year, turning their multi-member, organic chamber ensemble into a drum machine minded, electro-centric duo. The shift was sparked by a two-fold realization from Atash and Strawn who were looking to consolidate the project, with coordinating multiple musicians often slowing the writing and performing process, combined with a mutual revived interest in electronic music and hip-hop beats pulling influences from acts like The-Dream and These New Puritans.

For those in the New York area, Azar Swan is playing Glasslands on Monday, July 15thwith Bestial Mouths and Chtulu Fantasy (Tickets).

“Founding members Zohra Atash and Joshua Strawn have stepped out of the shadows once more with ‘Lusty’, a pulsating three minute slog through swells of frighteningly resonant percussion and ominous bass rumbles.” – The Line of Best Fit

“The dark, Kate-Bush-meets-Fever-Ray track “Lusty” is an exploration of the darkness that came with their previous band’s breakup, mixed with underdog-style optimism.” – Under The Radar

“…embracing sounds from any number of sources and combining them into thoroughly idiosyncratic pop songs that are both fascinating and hellaciously catchy.” – Flavorwire

“After re-envisioning the project and changing their name, the duo have shed their more rock oriented roots for an equally dark, jungle-oriented music sound. The vocals from Atash are every bit as wonderful as they were before… Zohra sings with a sense of bewilderment mixed with excitement of her experience as an immigrant in America” – Decoder Mag

“Brooklyn duo Azar Swan have emerged onto the blogosphere with their unique brand of dark, industrial pop music. Reminiscent of the dark pop sentiment of Bat for Lashes and the skewed electronica of The Knife” – The 405

“It’s a totally heady and brilliantly catchy Gothic world music tune about singer Zohra Atash’s immigrant experience in America, sung with almost childlike wonder.” – USA Today

Pony Bwoy Announces Self Titled LP, Premieres “Ævum (time crawls)” Track On SPIN

Totally Gross National Product, a Minneapolis-based record label curated by Ryan Olson (Gayngs, Marijuana Deathsquads) and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), is excited to announce its first official release of 2013. The record is the self-titled debut from a duo called Pony Bwoy, and is a remarkable collection of R&B-inspired dark-pop rooted in wavy electronics and hyper-rhythmic vocals.

Fronted by singer/rapper/provocateur Jeremy Nutzman, Pony Bwoy explore a wide range of influence, from dance-floor ready anthems to intimate late-night chill zone lullabies. At times it sounds like hushed raps over beats by Plaid, and other times soulful smooth-talk singing over shoegaze electronics, all the while displaying a chemistry between Nutzman and producer Hunter Morley that is wonderfully in tune with each other and complimentary in every way. The two have managed to create a playful, don’t-give-a-fuck persona of explicit content and progressive music, yet somehow made it engaging, timeless, and irresistible.

BEACH Reveals “Ibuprofen” Video, Pre-Order Available Now + Summer Tour Dates

In Us We Trust LP Drops 7/16, Pre-Order Available Now

Performing Live This Summer!

6/29: Cleveland, OH @ Pride
8/23: Chicago, IL @ City Winery

BEACH‘s new full-length album, In Us We Trust is an indie-electro rock project fronted by Karen Mould–the artist also known as Bitch, and her electric violin. The new LP represents such an important shift in sonic landscape that she was moved to “come out” to the public with her formerly unknown birth name, and title the new project BEACH. Karen Mould describes BEACH as “a place where everything shifts. Rocks become sand, water meets earth, birds screech, tides turn and colors collide.’  She says leaving behind her old persona allowed her to write from a more expansive, playful and wild way; with no limits, like the BEACH. As life imitates art, during the making of the album, Karen left her home of 15 years in Brooklyn, where she had began the album with producer Roger Paul Mason and moved to Los Angeles. Sonically, In Us We Trustbreathes the energy of the city; the simultaneous hope and despair, the bitter edge, humor and power of human gathering.

We recently released album cut “Ibuprofen” which is an immediately anthemic break-up song featuring a biting rap chorus and distorted vocal layers. Today, PureVolume has revealed the colorful “Ibuprofen” video. Watch the “Ibuprofen” video HERE & we encourage you to post & share!

Previously known for her bands Bitch and Animal & Bitch and the Exciting Conclusion, Karen is also known for appearing as Bitch in the John Cameron Mitchell film Shortbus.Learning classical violin at the age of 4, she studied fiddling with Andrew Bird and expanded her musical experimentation horizons. She released her first solo record Make This/Break This with legendary label Kill Rock Stars, and will release In Us We Trustproduced by Roger Paul Mason July 16 on her own Short Story Records.

BEACH has launched the In Us We Trust album pre-order and will play a handful of dates this Spring. Stay tuned for more details on a fall US tour coming soon!

Press Quotes

“I first heard the garage pop of Team Spirit at this year’s South by Southwest, where the Brooklyn band was fun, sleazy, but never sinful. “In the realm of fantastical, violent animated rock videos, I’ll take this one over the also-great Queens Of The Stone Age “I Appear Missing” clip” – Stereogum

“Spunky and sunny, Brooklyn-based Team Spirit embodies all the characteristics of their name, creating a swinging surf sound with bursts of poppy cheer. ” –The Deli

“(Team Spirit) makes music that you can’t help but bop your head to: It’s catchy, it’s happy, it’s loud; it’s everything you want” –Feast of Music
