LO-PAN Premieres “Go West” At Clrvynt; Limited-Edition In Tensions EP To See Release This January Via Aqualamb Records

In Tensions
is the forthcoming, limited-edition five-song EP from Columbus, Ohio riff rockers LO-PAN.
Their first release on Brooklyn’s Aqualamb Records (Husbandry, Black Black Black, Godmaker et al),In Tensions marks the next stage in the band’s ever-evolving direction – anchored by the lead single “Go West,” an optimistic, sun-kissed, open highway anthem.

“It’s about setting out to accomplish a goal and then having that goal change along the way and ultimately realizing the new goal was better than what you wanted in the first place,” singer Jeff Martin elaborates of the track. A perfect rallying cry for action in uncertain times, Martin continues, “it’s also about getting out and doing something…. So keep moving forward. Keeping progressing. Keep evolving.”

In celebration of the release of In Tensions, Clrvynt is currently streaming “Go West” RIGHT HERE.

LO-PAN‘s In Tensions will be released on 10-inch vinyl limited to 500 copies and accompanied by a one-hundred-page book featuring artwork by Chris Smith of Grey Aria Design as well LO-PAN tour diaries, flyers, and a complete collection lyrics from LO-PAN‘s previous releases: Sasquanaut,Salvador, and Colossus. Preorders are currently available at THIS LOCATION.

In Tensions is equal parts modern sludge metal and ’90s-influenced alt rock – synthesized to perfection. Jeff Martin has never sounded more soulful, confident, and passionate on record. The riffs courtesy of the now former guitarist Adrian Lee Zambrano compliment the tribal influenced drums of Jesse Bartz and grounding bass lines of Skot Thompson, pummeling the listener on each repeated listen.

Said Two Guys Metal Reviews in an advance review of the record, “It’s easy to get lost in this album simply because In Tensions demonstrates the sort of pulse that made records in the ’70s so addictive. It’s a sort of constant throb that winds its way through every song on the album and makes it feel even shorter than its five tracks would suggest. This is a good thing though – In Tensions rapidly becomes highly addictive, an album you wrap up and then can’t help but want to jam again.”
Recorded in Columbus, Ohio by Joe Viers, with mixings duties split between Jonathan Nunez (Torche, Shitstorm) and Ryan Haft (Wrong, Capsule) in Miami, and mastered in Chicago by Carl Saff (Big Business, Helms Alee, Russian Circles), In Tensions is a sonic masterpiece created across multiple time zones – the fruit of relationships forged through the band’s unending dedication to the life of touring road dogs.

The band also hit a major touring milestone in 2016, having logged over 250,000 miles on their original van since 2005 – crossing the country countless times over on headlining tours and supporting the likes of Torche, High On Fire, Weedeater, KENmode, Whores, Fu Manchu, Atomic Bitchwax, Black Cobra, and Bongzilla. Not surprisingly, they’ve become one of the most ferocious live acts in American heavy rock as a result.

And with In Tensions, they show no sign of slowing down. A full US tour in support of In Tensions is expected this Winter along with a European tour in the Spring of 2017.

Columbus Ohio unit, LO-PAN’s, release ‘In Tensions’

Inspired by the lack of album art in the age of invisible music, Brooklyn-based record label Aqualamb publishes one-hundred+ page printed books of artwork and writings as physical accompaniments to its releases. Essentially, each album’s art and liner notes (traditionally confined to an LP gatefold, a CD booklet, or the screen of some music-playing device) are reconfigured into an expanded book form. Each book also includes a download code for the music.

CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED’s Richard Christy Launches Drum Play-Through For New Track, “My Eyes”

Charred Walls Of The Damned – the brainchild of former Death/Iced Earthdrummer Richard Christy – will release their third full-length, Creatures Watching Over The Dead, on September 23rd via Metal Blade Records. Today, Richard Christy has launched a drum play-through for the new track, “My Eyes”, which can be viewed below:

unnamedFor another preview of Creatures Watching Over The Dead, the first single,”The Soulless”, can be heard now at: metalblade.com/cwotd – where the record is also available for pre-order in various formats.

With five years having elapsed since the quartet dropped Cold Winds On Timeless Days, it’s understandable that fans have been yearning for more, butCharred Walls Of The Damned has not exactly been sitting around, kicking their heels. Christy – who has previously played with Iced Earth, Death, Control Denied, Burning Inside and Leash Law – played drums on Monte Pittman‘s Inverted Grasp Of Balance, wrote music for New York State‘s “The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze” event, and co-wrote a heavy metal comedy Viking rock opera with guitarist Jason Suecof and Titmouse Animation, titled “Majestic Loincloth”. Suecof is of course one of the most in demand producers in contemporary metal. Then there’s legendary bassist Steve DiGiorgio, who made a name for himself in the ranks of Death, Testament, Vintersorg, Dragonlord and a myriad of other great metal bands; in recent years, he has laid down his inimitable style on records from Ephel Duath, Soen, Memorain and others. Which just leaves vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens, who for a time fronted Judas Priest, before lending his formidable pipes toIced Earth and Yngwie Malmsteen‘s mighty compositions, touring relentlessly under his own name, and starting a new band (Project Rock).

When it was time to lay the songs down, Charred Walls Of The Damnedconvened at Suecof’s Audiohammer Studio, outside Orlando, FL. The nine resulting tracks are heavy, catchy, anthemic and downright killer music to wreck your neck to. See below for the official track-listing!

SABATON Prepares for Battle – U.S. Tour with Trivium and Huntress/Pittsburgh date 10/10 @StageAE

Introducing New Guitarist Tommy Johansson

New Album The Last Stand Out Now via Nuclear Blast

In just three weeks, Swedish metal favorites SABATON – recognized globally by fans for their unique brand of historical battle-themed metal – will return to the United States for the 2016 “Silence In The Snow” Fall Tour with headliners Trivium and fellow special guest Huntress. This is a can’t-miss line-up! The tour begins on September 15 in Columbus, OH and comes to a close on October 21 st in Lake Buena Vista, FL. Pick up your tickets via www.sabaton.net/tour and see below for all current tour dates.
These dates will be the first time U.S. fans get to see SABATON performing with their new guitarist Tommy Johansson. The band issued a statement yesterday regarding the departure of their former guitarist Thobbe En glund and the addition of Johansson: “Thank you Thobbe, welcome Tommy! Our guitar player Thobbe did his final concert with us on last Saturday’s very emotional show at the SABATON OPEN AIR festival. Celebrating the release of our new album while saying goodbye to a great friend is lots of mixed feelings. But the future is bright since this was not nearly our last stand, from now on you will see Tommy Johansson playing guitars with SABATON and we all look forward to see you on the road!”
Johansson added:“For me to be a part of the SABATON family is a huge honor and I couldn’t be happier! The guys are awesome and among the nicest people you can meet. I’ve been following SABATON since 2005 when I saw them live for the first time and I have loved the band ever since, so when they asked me to join there was no hesitation. Although, they did ask me already back in 2012 but for many personal reasons it was not a good time for me to hit the road and give everything that was needed to the band. So I declined, but we have stayed in touch since then. I also want to say that Thobbe is a great guitarist and such a wonderful guy! My job is not to replace him, it’s to contribute to the band with my own style of guitar playing but of course also to keep his fans happy by playing his wonderful solos with pride. I look forward to meet you all on tour and to do what I love the most in life – to play heavy metal!”
Last Friday, August 19, SABATON released their latest album The Last Stand via Nuclear Blast. You can order your copy of the heavy metal masterpiece now in various physical formats, or digitally. For fans who want a little extra, don’t miss the “Tank Edition”.

About SABATON:
Formed in Falun, Sweden in 1999, SABATON is best known for singing almost exclusively about historical wars and battles, a direction the band members decided to take on after watching the 1999 Academy Award-winning film Saving Private Ryan. The band thoroughly researches their topics to ensure the songs paint accurate and objective portraits of the historical event they’re singing about, which are narrated from an omniscient point-of-view or in first-person as a soldier caught in the line of fire.  Like their home country of Sweden,SABATON aims to remain politically neutral in their role as musical war historians.SABATON have reached their unshaken position as heavy metal’s AAA-torchbearer after releasing ingenious studio recordings and playing endless amount of unforgettable live shows. The Last Stand is another unquestionable and bulletproof evidence of SABATON‘s top class abilities and it will be followed by the band’s most gigantic world tour to date.

YOUTH FORGOTTEN: Collective Of Cleveland Metal/Hardcore Scene Veterans Prepares To Release Debut Full-Length

Based out of Cleveland, Ohio, with a wide base of roots feeding deep into their city’s underbelly, the members of YOUTH FORGOTTEN culminate in this new outfit with a unified sense of keeping the movement alive with the utmost urgency.

While overall retaining dark hardcore/metal outfit tactics to spread their message, an influx of thrash metal dynamics and streetpunk energy coalesce in fueling the anthems YOUTH FORGOTTENdeploys. Genre boundaries and inner-scene platforms are eradicated as this quintet relentlessly dispatches song after song of energized, enraged fury, while lyrically the outfit speaks from an equally grounded, forward-thinking mentality. The lineup consists of vocalist J.C. Koszewski (Dead Even), lead guitarist Matt Brewer (ex-Integrity), drummer Rob Walters (Salt The Wound), guitarist Aaron Salo (Above This Fire) and bassist Jim LaMarca (Chimaira).

Having coalesced their collective strengths into the powerhouse dubbed YOUTH FORGOTTEN, the band recorded their debut record, Ghost Of A Fallen Empire, at RobArnoldWorld with Rob Arnold of Chimaira, marking his debut as a producer. Destroying and decimating, while aiming to aggravate and invigorate, they burn through nearly forty-five minutes of material surging with the vitality the often overlooked energy the Cleveland landscape has provided over the past few decades, concentrated into the album’s ten tracks.

YOUTH FORGOTTEN will independently release Ghost Of A Fallen Empire digitally on January 31st, 2014, with physical product to follow shortly behind; final details will be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the band has posted tracks “Nobody Cares,” “The Passion” and “Take Control” boasting the diversity and damagability of the album; tune in RIGHT HERE.

Having shared the stage with a plethora of regional bands as well as international acts including Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, Battlecross, Ringworm, 3 Inches of Blood, Revocation, The Acacia Strain and countless more over the years, YOUTH FORGOTTEN will take their new anthems to the public live touring in support of Ghost Of A Fallen Empire in the coming months. Stay tuned for new live actions to be announced.

Ghost Of A Fallen Empire Track Listing:

1. Anthem

2. Revolution For Nothing

3. Take Control

Anything But Cheap: Hey Monea! Take Folk Rock Back to Its Roots

The early 2010’s brought us a folk explosion in popular music. Fuzzy guitar tones and thunderous drum solos were no longer the name of the game; today, it’s all about acoustic guitars, banjos and percussion without the fifty-piece drum kits. Say what you will about the quality of bands like The Lumineers, but with their arrivals, the arenas were no longer reserved for anthemic guitar solos and mosh pits. Interestingly enough, Canton, Ohio’s Hey Monea! pre-dated this folk boom; long before folk made its mainstream mark, Hey Monea! were playing at festivals with artists like Soundgarden and John Fogerty. The Ohio natives even got to open for Bruce Springsteen himself in 2012. Despite now being in a genre crammed with newcomers aching to reach out to packed amphitheaters, Hey Monea! don’t aim to follow that trail. This is clean-cut alternative folk music through and through with no extraneous elements attached…and that’s a good thing.

The band’s newest album Cheap Souvenirs kicks things off rather humbly with the catchy, folksy love ballad “Adeline.” Everything you’d expect from the recent folk-splosion that engulfed America in the last few years is present in Cheap Souvenirs, but Hey Monea! don’t give into the arena rock pitfalls that Mumford and Sons and The Lumineers have fallen into. The Ohio quartet instead cut back on the bombast, focusing on simmering vocal harmonies and some catchy melodies. They trim the fat from big, big choruses and provide a surprisingly intimate and honest look into that minimalist version of alternative rock that has been torn away in recent acts. An emphasis on steady claps for percussion brings out the band’s vision on stripping down the spectacle and taking their genre back to the good ol’ times.

“I’ve been to church but I don’t pray/And I ain’t gonna start today,” sings frontman Dan Monea on “Pollyanna,” a piano-driven track that takes the best from rootsy, folk rock like Crash Kings and Alabama Shakes. From its campy, but gripping lyrics to the fantastic harmonies between the vocalists, “Pollyanna” shows the band’s biggest strengths, which translate well toward similar songs like “Stay” and “Ohio Lullaby.” The closer title track slows the pace to a steady one; it’s not a crawl, but it’s an intimate one (in a less serious light, it’d be the song your older brother would play to his significant other around Christmastime). These moments of reveling in the moment are where you see Hey Monea! in a fine light, one that doesn’t distract or obscure. It’s just there and it does a great job doing it.

Other songs on the album, however, don’t work out as well. “Never Gonna Take You Back” is a forgettable track that, despite its galloping pace and upbeat tone, doesn’t provide anything interesting for the band. It’s an odd detour, since the first two tracks are remarkably mellow ones; moving toward that crowd-jumping pace seems like an unneeded and distracting motion. The album also tends to drag a little near the end, with some of the last few songs lacking that aged amber that the beginning of the album possesses. “Cigarette” is a faster song reminiscent of modern indie bands like Vampire Weekend or a softer version of early emo rock like Jimmy Eat World. While it’s a nice surprise, it’s not Hey Monea! doing what they do best. The harmonies aren’t as noticeable, the melodies not as smooth; it’s a bit of a disappointment. These moments of diversion stick out like sore thumbs among the smooth balladry on Cheap Souvenirs, which otherwise demonstrates a homey vibe that Hey Monea! simply shine with.

Hey Monea! aren’t the hardest rocking band, nor are they the kind of band you’d expect selling out enormous arenas in this pop folk environment called 2013, but they do possess a brilliant kind of campy substance that makes Cheap Souvenirs a nice surprise. When the Ohio guys slow their pace down and let the fire burn a little bit, they show an excellent alternative to the stale folk scene. The piano chords sound off like no one’s business, Dan Monea’s singing is quite melodious (especially in the harmonies with his bandmates) and the songwriting has a rugged, but refined tone. This surprisingly interesting approach to folk rock makes the detours from the mellow tones all the more distracting. It’s great to hear variety on an album like this, but the band shows that they’re not at their best when their pacing accelerates. When they slow things down, Hey Monea! do a lot of things right. Cheap Souvenirs isn’t going to set the world on fire, but if you want an alternative album that cuts the theatrics and just performs really, really well, Hey Monea! will offer a serene and comforting look into the World of Folk That Used to Be.

Dangerkids debut album “Collapse” promises to blow minds.

Collapse, the debut album from the dynamite Ohio based band “Dangerkids”, is promised to blow your mind. With their rap/rock Linkin Park sound, they take the style to the next level by giving the listener a fresh new take at what rock is becoming.

After seeing Dangerkids live on the “Fuck It We’re Done” tour with Attack Attack, the Plot in You, and Get Scared, I have been anxiously anticipating the release of this album and I couldn’t be happier with it. Initially upon hearing this band for the first time I was (like everyone else in the crowd) skeptical, but two songs into their set I was in love. With two strong and captivating male leads and an extremely impressive female drummer this band is not only captivating musically but visually as well. What compelled me the most about this album is that not only does Dangerkids put out heavy songs (like “Countdown” and “We’re all in Danger”) that would get any crowd going; But they also throw out meaningful lyrics for fans to connect with (most noticeable in the songs “Unmade” and “Destroy yourself”). After hearing the few singles that Dangerkids has put out prior to the release I wondered what else they could possibly do with the record. Well let me be the first to tell you that they have outdone themselves. This is a must have album for any fan of Linkin Park or Abandon all Ships.

Dangerkids posted on their Facebook the day of the release and said “Today is a big one for us. A little over a year ago we had an idea: how neat would it be to create a band that brought everything we love about music together. We knew we wanted it to be aggressive and inspiring — honest and sharp. We wanted to stir the emotions the way our favorite bands had done for us. We wanted to create music that could take you places.” And they have.

Red Sun Are Celebrating Ten Years of Poor Life Choices!

Heavy stoner/sludge/doom band Red Sun — founded April 20, 2003 in Warren, Ohio — are celebrating their tenth anniversary by throwing a huge concert in Columbus, OH, on Saturday April 20, 2013.
The band — consisting of Zach Germaniuk (guitar/vocals), Joseph Rosenblum(drums/vocals), and Roger Vincent (bass/vocals) — has come a long way over the past ten years and a lot of stories have come out of that: according to Germaniuk, “We started out as three gawky high school kids growing up in Warren, OH (birthplace of Dave Grohl).  We’ve had like 5 bass players through that time and I’d say the fact that we kept the band together for ten years through a lot of personal adversity, overcoming addictions, living and working in different cities and still making time for this particular band is a huge milestone in itself. When we started, we were really the only high school band from our town that was actively playing shows in other cities, and I think we really took it to heart at a very young age.  I think we’ve made more mistakes than milestones, honestly, but we’re really trying our best to learn from those mistakes and live up to the expectations of our mentors and ourselves, too.”
Red Sun‘s members are currently located across the state of Ohio (in Columbus, Dayton, and Cleveland) but they consider Columbus their home because that’s where they spent most of their formative years as a band, developing their sound, as well as forging a long-term friendship with fellow Columbusites Lo-Pan.  Guitarist Germaniuk explains, “They, more than any other band, are probably why Red Sun didn’t break up years ago.  They were our guides when we were 19, 20, 21 years old.  Playing shows with them, and being as good as they are, you either have to get better or just quit, because they’re going to blow you off stage.  Our feeling was, if we could at least be good enough to not look like complete fools in front of them and their audience, we would be OK.”
Some of the band’s more recent highlights include the release of a split 7″ (2011,Innervenus Music) with Mockingbird from Akron, Ohio, as well as a live EP (2012, Innervenus/Unhallowed Records) that was recorded at Carabar (in Columbus) during the band’s summer 2011 tour with Churches Burn (from Columbus) and Pledge of Cain (from France).  They later said that drummer Joe Rosenblum’s grandmother died the day that recording was made, and “there was just a lot of anger and frustration and sadness before the show.  So to be able to get onstage and let all of that out was an almost spiritual healing for all of us — you can hear the catharsis in the music when you listen to that recording, for sure.”

Given the fact that all three members live in different cities, they have also found time to work on other projects outside of Red Sun: Joe plays in the hardcore band Swarm and the instrumental unit Matter of Planets, while Zach was invited to sit in on guitar on garage/psych band The Wooly Bullies‘ last record, which has since developed into a new minimalist, ambient project called Loner (which expects to have a debut record out sometime in fall or winter 2013).  However, since all three guys are such close friends that really enjoy making music together, there are no plans for Red Sun to slow down any time soon.  In fact, following their anniversary celebration, they will be heading back into the studio in May to record material for another split release, while also working on writing new material for a future full-length studio album.  They’ve described the songs as “a mix of probably our most aggressive and also introspective songs to date, [although] we’ve always been a band with dual personality disorder: we still try to keep a lot of that teenage punk rock energy in our music, even as we get older and write heavier music to fit the shits life has taken on all of us.”  In addition, details are currently being finalized for summer and fall touring.  A decade in and still going strong, 2013 is shaping up to be Red Sun‘s biggest year yet!
