ABOUT URIAH HEEP:
URIAH HEEP debuted in 1970 with the release of one of hard rock’s milestones, “Very ‘eavy… Very ‘umble” and have since sold in excess of 40 million albums worldwide. They constantly tour the world, playing up to 125 shows a year to 500,000+ fans. The band’s live set features the classic tracks from the ’70s and is a musical journey from the band’s beginnings to the present day.
Along with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Uriah Heep helped invent a decorative and uniquely British form of heavy metal with their debut album, Very ‘Eavy, Very ‘Umble, offered as a self-titled on American shores, but whatever the titling, historically massive in the invention of a music format that would rule the ’70s and only intensify in the ’80s.

Uriah Heep have been responsible for the most elevated and intelligent use of vocals in a heavy metal context amongst the major bands inventing the genre in the 1970s. It is for this reason Heep were coined the Beach Boys of Heavy Metal, and their influence is there for all to see in other bands including ‘Queen.’ They were also one of the forerunners of using the Hammond organ along with Micks signature wah wah guitar and this became the template for their sound.

Success has followed the forging of such an audacious formula. Across 25 studio albums, along with myriad live releases and compilations, Uriah Heep have managed to sell 40 million records worldwide, four million of those in the US. Impressive American numbers, but that leaves 36 million records to be sold in the rest of the world, underscoring the fact that Uriah Heep have become, through their relentless dedication to touring, a truly global band, with particular success in Germany, Scandinavia, Japan, Eastern Europe and Russia, where they were the first Western rock band to play live in Moscow in December 1987 to 180,000 people.

Through their success as Rock n’ Roll pioneers this enabled other bands to follow in their wake and Russia is now part of every bands touring schedule.
URIAH HEEP is:
Mick Box: Guitars, Vocals
Phil Lanzon: Keyboards, Vocals
Bernie Shaw: Lead Vocals
Russell Gilbrook: Drums, Vocals
Dave Rimmer: Bass, Vocals

Bio/Info:

The Portland–based rock band worked with producer Ross Robinson (At The Drive-In, The Cure, Slipknot) and mixer Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool, Melvins) on the 10-song album. “We wanted to leave Portland so we could be a little more immersed in the process, instead of having to think about going to get groceries and stuff,” explained Aaron Beam in a recent Revolver interview of working at Ross Robinson’s Venice, Calif. studio.

In the week’s leading up to Only Ghosts’ release, the Portland-based rock band have also created a tremendously clever video about wronged comic book collectors seeking Predator-style vengeance (“Shadows”: https://youtu.be/cnhCxVy5pfs), partnered with Stumptown Coffee Roasters for a tour only blend dubbed “The Deep” after the song of the same name and lent their music to Pabst Blue Ribbon’s retro pinball machine, The Can Crusher. The band recently held a “Shadows” inspired Coloring Book contest sponsored with Indie Merch Store and New Noise Magazine. View all entries at http://redfang.net/coloringbook.

Nerdist dubbed Only Ghosts a “supremely excellent new album” while Metal Sucks offered, “…with Only Ghosts, they’ve delivered their freshest set of jams yet. On this new album, Red Fang are executing their songwriting at a deadly precision: their melodies are hookier, their compositions perfectly tweaked, their dual-throaty-vocal layers reaching an artful tier not really seen in the genre since Blood Mountain.”

GWAR Announces North American Fall Tour// Pittsburgh 10/23 @MrSmalls

New Album “The Blood of Gods” Out October 20th via Metal Blade Records
On October 20thGWAR will release a new studio album entitled “The Blood of Gods” via Metal Blade Records.  In support of the new album, your Lords and Masters will leave their arctic slumber and return to the road to cause aural (and anal) devastation across North America.  Joining in the chaos will be Ghoul, Doyle (10/20-11/5), He Is Legend (11/7-12/10) and U.S. Bastards.  The tour kicks off in Richmond, VA on October 20th and runs through December 10th in Detroit, MI.  The tour includes a stop in New York City on Halloween as well!  A complete list of dates can be found below.

The Berserker Blothar had this to say about the upcoming tour:
“Humans, we are coming to tear your world apart with a live performance the likes of which has never been seen on this or any other planet! This album, “The Blood of Gods,” is the greatest thing since French toast.  Just hearing these songs performed will result in an instant paroxysm of weeping, gnashing of teeth, and the uncontrollable voiding of your filthy bowels. Now, we are taking the whole bloody shit show on the road, with the most spectacular, blood-drenched, gruesome, and terrifying rock concert of all time. Don’t miss your chance to sacrifice yourself to GWAR at a venue near you!”

Bohabs! Be the coolest corpse in the pile! Don’t miss your chance to pledge your allegiance to GWAR each night when they rape and pillage your town. Head to https://www.gwarvip.com to take part in “The Lords and Masters VIP Experience”.

General admission tickets and VIP Packages go on sale to the public this Friday August 18th at 10:00 AM Eastern.

The Lords and Masters VIP Experience Includes:
*One (1) General Admission Ticket with Venue Early Entry (potentially guest list)
*Exclusive access to GWAR soundcheck where you will pledge allegiance to your Lords & Masters!
*Invitation to play a GWAR instrument onstage at soundcheck
*Tour of the weapons of your Lords & Masters
*Crowd Free Merch Access
*One (1) Souvenir item signed by members of GWAR
*One (1)  Souvenir GWAR laminate
*Photo opportunity with GWAR before the show
*You will be killed by GWAR on stage during the show.
*Designated Slave Pit Area to pledge your allegiance before you are killed on stage by GWAR!

There are only 5 VIP TICKETS available per show, that’s it so don’t wait.

Concerning the album;  “The Blood of Gods” is nothing less than a sacred text chronicling the rise of humanity against their makers, and the massive battle between GWAR and the forces of all that is uptight and wrong with the world. Along the way, the band challenges the sins of their great mistake, from politics, pollution, and organized religion, to fast food, and factory farming. Humans are shown as what they are; a parasitic disease that must be eradicated before they suck the planet dry. Meanwhile, Sleazy P. Martini, the crooked entrepreneur who discovered the Scumdogs, and has always envisioned them as a sort of horrific boy band, finally managed to convince the group to write a hit song called “I’ll Be Your Monster.” If all goes according to plan, it may be just stupid enough to work!

GWAR LIVES MOTHERFUCKERS!

Industrial-Rock Icons PIG @Cattivo 8/12

PIG are setting out on a North America tour. Raymond Watts is the mastermind behind PIG. He is also a founding member of the legendary band KMFDM. They will be on tour with Julien-K (ex-Orgy members) and Ghostfeeder. The tour is in support of their new album “The Gospel” and EP “Prey & Obey”. Below you can find the video for title track of their new EP.

<PÎG> is Raymond Watts, a British musician whose brand of electronic rock is danceable and deadly serious in turn. Watts’s words spring from the well of gallows humour in a world of corruscating cruelty and truth. <PÎG> climbs peaks and mines troughs, and musical genres slide and collide like tectonic plates.

Berlin years
In 1986 Raymond Watts awoke in West Berlin. It was a time of terror and turmoil, in a city so depraved and decadent that the East Germans had walled it in. Watts had cut his teeth on tape loops in London and Hamburg, but inspired by Berlin’s fetid air and his first 8-bit sampler, Watts gave birth to <PÎG> in 1988, when <PÎG> was cut from his belly with a rusty screwdriver in a basement opposite The Wall. The first squeals were committed to tape, and saw the light of day as A Poke in the Eye. Wax Trax! jumped to release it.

A year earlier, in Hamburg, he was bludgeoning the first KMFDM album into shape with En Esch and Sascha Konietzko. He had also helped deliver the sonic slaughter of Einsturzende Neubauten, Psychic TV and most of the Berlin and Hamburg underground, as both live and studio sound engineer, and producer.

After writing the music for the second KMFDM album, Watts then slipped away to tour with Foetus, playing keyboards and guitar.

Praise the Lard
When The Wall collapsed, the party was over. Watts returned to London and <PÎG> albums poured forth: Praise the Lard, A Stroll in the Pork, Shit For Brains, Red Raw & Sore and The Swining. Watts programmed, produced and performed, ploughing a lone furrow until Karl Hyde, singer and sinner with Underworld, came to his assistance on guitars followed by Steve White.

Watts had also developed a taste for all things Japanese. His label was based there, his morals were parked there and <PÎG> had toured there many times. He was soon involved with a highly successful bunch of ne’er-do-wells called Schaft. Their album Switchblade, and a sold-out tour, followed.

Back to Wax Trax!
In 1994, <PÎG> opened for NIN. This led to <PÎG>’s Sinsation album being released on Nothing Records — and then a return to Wax Trax! for Wrecked.

Watts also rejoined KMFDM in 1994, for the <PÎG> v KMFDM EP Sin, Sex & Salvation. On the ensuing album Nihil Watts resumed writing and vocal duties and several heaving tours followed, with Watts orchestrating the chaos from centre stage like a rampant ringmaster armed only with talent and tequila.

Monster
When not on tour, Watts could be found in his Ranch Apocalypse studios in London, working on <PÎG>’s No One Gets Out of Her Alive, Prime Evil, Disrupt Degrade & Devastate and the KMFDM albums Symbols, Attak and WW111. On the album Genuine American Monster, Watts reunited with legendary guitarist Guenter Schulz.

While in Toyko, Watts gave birth to the band Schwein with Sascha Konietzko and the Japanese musicians Sakurai and Imai. The albums Schweinstein, Son Of Schweinstein and a sold-out tour ensued.

After releasing the <PÎG> album Pigmartyr (Pigmata on Metropolis), Watts spent time in London indoctrinating his piglets and initiating them into the parish of the pork. When not leading his children down the path of righteousness, he could be found writing music for fashion and films for Alexander McQueen, Chloe, Marios Schwab, Halston, The Row and others. He also wrote music and did sound design for Punk: Chaos to Couture, the exhibition at the Met in New York.

Savage Beauty
In the final show before his death, Alexander McQueen commissioned Watts and John Gosling, Watts’s old partner-in-crime from Psychic TV days, to embellish the serene instrumental track Inside, from <PÎG>’s Genuine American Monster album. This became the soundtrack to what is seen as McQueen’s masterpiece, Plato’s Atlantis. This show was reprised as the finale of Savage Beauty, the McQueen retrospective that broke all records at the Met in New York and the V&A in London. He also wrote other original music and did sound design for the show.

Last year, in 2015, <PÎG> dipped his trotter in the trough once more, and released both the much lauded <PÎG> v Primitive Race EP Long in the Tooth, and the Compound Eye Sessions: <PÎG> v MC Lord of the Flies (aka Marc Heal, of Cubanate).

The Gospel
The Primitive Race collaboration brought together Watts and Mark Thwaite, of The Mission, Tricky and Peter Murphy fame, amongst many others. Together they set about writing what would become the main column of misery around which the new <PÎG> album, The Gospel, has been built. Watts’ newest partner in swine, Z. Marr of Combichrist fame, shared production and writing duties.

The new <PÎG> album, The Gospel, is a collection of twelve songs of ruin, redemption, resolution and resurrection. Across this tale of grime and punishment En Esch and Guenter Schulz leave their unmistakable trail of greasy fingerprints.

2016 tour
<PÎG> will be alive and kicking across North America this fall, on the American Excess tour. The live band will comprise Raymond Watts, En Esch, Guenter Schulz, Z. Marr and Galen Waling.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Thursday, January 26, 2017 — Metalcore forefathers Killswitch Engage and thrash legends Anthrax announced in December that they will hit the road this Spring to co-headline a 27-date North American tour, presented by SiriusXM. The bands’ itinerary will also include an April 15 appearance at the Texas Independence Festival in Austin, as well as each band headlining two solo shows separate from the double bill.

With Anthrax and KsE rotating the closing slot over the course of the dates, the tour will hit the ground on March 29 in Montclair, NJ and then criss-cross the continent, wrapping up in Boston on May 7. The intense and dynamic The Devil Wears Prada will provide direct support on all dates.

Multi-tasking Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta will perform solo as Jasta and open the first 10 shows of the tour – including the two Killswitch Engage headline shows that do not feature Anthrax.
Pittsburgh‘s Code Orange, who are being hailed as one of the most exciting metal acts of 2017 with the release of their new album FOREVER, will open all of the dates thereafter. Code Orange jump on the tour on April 11.

Tickets are on sale via the Anthrax sitethe KsE site, and the TDWP site. Please visit those locations for all details regarding ticketing.

Killswitch Engage released the universally regarded Incarnate (Roadrunner) this past March, which debuted #6 on the Billboard 200, and #1 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Album chart. 2016 also saw KsE appearing on a Stars Wars-themed Revolver cover, staging an unforgettable and intimate, five-club NYC takeover for album release week, and embarking on an impressive Incarnate World Tour. On November 25, the band released Beyond the Flames: Home Video Vol. II on Blu-ray, a treasure trove of gripping content, containing over 3.5 hours of footage. At the heart of this release is a 75-minute documentary that chronicles the return of original vocalist Jesse Leach, after nearly a decade away, to the band he helped form back in 1999. It picks up right where their 2005 {Set This} World Ablaze release left off, revealing the rest of the untold KsE story. Beyond the Flames is now available digitally.

For Anthrax, these dates are in support of the band’s critically-celebrated 11th album,  For All Kings (Megaforce), released last February. Celebrating its 35 th anniversary, 2016 has been action-packed for Anthrax.  For All Kings debuted at #1 on

Billboard’s Hard Rock Albums chart and #9 on the Billboard 200, the band’s second Top 10 chart entry. Two striking music videos made with director Jack Bennett, one over-the-top grizzly, the other an innovative stop-motion piece, an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers that paired the band with the iconic Robert De Niro, and sharing stages with bands like Iron Maiden, Lamb of God, Avenged Sevenfold, and fellow Big Four members, Slayer were just a few of the highlights.
“Anthrax and Killswitch will be a really good blend for fans,” said Anthrax’s Charlie Benante. “We both play metal, but we play two different forms of the genre. I think fans of both bands are in for a ‘Total Explosion of the Senses.'” Added the band’s Frank Bello, “This Anthrax/KSE tour is a powerful ball of energy ready to unleash the metal in the U.S.”
“Anthrax and Killswitch – KillThrax! Holy crap!,” said Scott Ian. “I am so excited about these upcoming shows with our old friends Killswitch Engage. Get out your pit pants and start stretching now for all the glorious action and fun!”
KsE singer Jesse Leach echoed Anthrax’s enthusiasm about the upcoming trek, saying, “We are so stoked to tour with thrash legends Anthrax! We are sure this will bring a powerhouse of a live show with the combination of both bands. This is, hands down, the most excited we’ve been to tour alongside a band in a long while. This will be one you won’t want to miss. KillThrax is coming for you!!!!”
“I rarely get to tour with Jasta and since the rest of my year is booked up with Hatebreed tours, I jumped at the chance to hit the road and debut some new Jasta songs with some of my favorite people in metal,” said Jamey Jasta. “Not only is the tour hitting some of my favorite cities to play, the lineup offers something for every generation of metal and hardcore fan. Come out early and get the pit started with us!”

ABOUT KILLSWITCH ENGAGE:
Formed in 1999 out of western Massachusetts, Killswitch Engage are often credited as one of the most influential metal acts in the last 20 years. Twice Grammy-nominated, they’ve sold over 3 million records worldwide, with The End of Heartache and As Daylight Dies both certified Gold in the U.S. The band has enjoyed multiple Top 10-charting albums, with 2016’s Incarnate (March 11/Roadrunner) landing at #6 on the Billboard Top 200, #1 on the Current Rock Albums chart, and debuting at #1 overall in Canada, #5 in Australia, and #10 in both the UK and Germany, a testament to the band’s international reach.

As cofounders of Killswitch Engage, guitarist/backing vocalist Adam Dutkiewicz, guitarist Joel Stroetzel, bassist Mike D’Antonio, and lead vocalist Jesse Leach (who returned four years ago after a decade-long absence) together with longtime drummer Justin Foley continue to make trend-resistant, timeless heavy music that feeds the soul, touches the heart, and strengthens the mind. Spending much of their career on the road, Killswitch Engage have enjoyed premium slots on major U.S. tours, including OzzFest, Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos, Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest, Music As a Weapon, and Trespass America, as well as countless international festivals around the globe. Having shared the stage with acts ranging from Rise Against to Slayer, the diversity and versatility of their touring is unparalleled. Their songs have been featured on Guitar Hero III, Rock Band, John Madden, the Resident Evil III soundtrack, and as entrance music for WWE wrestling champ CM Punk.

ABOUT ANTHRAX:
As part of the band’s 35th anniversary year, Anthrax released one of 2016’s most-anticipated metal/thrash albums, For All Kings (February 26/Megaforce in North America/Nuclear Blast internationally), that debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Chart and at #9 on Billboard’s Top 200, becoming Anthrax’s highest-charting album in more than two decades. Written by drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello and guitarist Scott Ian, the dynamic triumvirate whose unique composition chemistry is, in part, what sets Anthrax’s music apart from other bands’ in the same genre, combined with Joey Belladonna’s breathtaking vocals and the searing guitar leads by newest member Jonathan Donais, it’s no wonder the album and the band’s live shows have consistently received tremendous reviews.

Over its 35-year career, Anthrax has been a pioneering band with its unique style, sound and heavy brand of thrash metal, and, as Metallica’s Kirk Hammett put it, “one can hear their influence on any number of up and coming bands.”  Anthrax has sold in excess of 10-million units, received multiple Gold and Platinum certifications, six Grammy nominations and a host of other accolades from the media, industry and fans.  From the race and genre barriers Anthrax helped break down in 1988 when they collaborated with Public Enemy on “Bring The Noise,” to becoming a card-carrying member of The Big Four – with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth – as one of the four bands that defined the speed/thrash metal genre, to being the first metal band to have its music heard on Mars when NASA played “Got The Time” to wake up the Mars Rover, Anthrax continues to break ground and innovate. Click here for more about Anthrax’s 35 years

ABOUT THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA:
The Devil Wears Prada is the musical embodiment of a generational shift. Built on a diverse array of heavy, dark, melodic and genre-defying music, hardened and sharpened by putting in road work together since the days when they had to skip class to tour, The Devil Wears Prada has long been at the forefront of a movement that bridges the gap between Rockstar Mayhem and the Vans Warped Tour.

In many ways, the band -Mike Hranica (vocals), Jeremy DePoyster (rhythm guitar, clean vocals), Andy Trick (bass), and the recent addition of Kyle Sipress (guitar)-has embraced transition and change since their 2005 formation. After the pivotal breakout With Roots Above and Branches Below in 2009, the boys challenged the status quo and notched widespread critical acclaim, landing two consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 for the conceptual Zombie EP [2010] and Dead Throne [2011]. Two thousand thirteen’s 8:18 continued to expand their imprint on heavy music, while the intergalactic concept epic Space EP (2015) blasted off to a #18 debut and praise from Alternative Press, Loudwire, and more. With influences from novels like The Mandarins by Simone de Beauvoir, William Faulkner’s The Sound and The Fury, and Russian literature by Nabokov, Chekhov, and Dostoevsky, Prada gets very personal on their new album, Transit Blues (10-7-16), tackling topics like gun control, anxiety and the toll that touring takes. All Music called it “as blistering and visceral as anything they’ve ever done.”

ABOUT CODE ORANGE:
Pittsburgh, PA’s Code Orange, the progressive unit comprised of Jami Morgan (Drums/Vocals), Eric Balderose (Guitar/Vocals), Reba Meyers (Guitar/Vocals) and Joe Goldman (Bass) have gripped listeners and press around the globe with their visionary compositions and aggressive power. Code Orange’s elevated and expansive mixture of hardcore and punk has situated them at the forefront of a new generation of artists. In September of 2014 with Code Orange approaching their 20’s, the band released their landmark second LP, I Am King, which Pitchfork asserted as “…the most forward-thinking post-hardcore record of 2014.”
Crashing through the confines of genre limitations, Code Orange proved that their power lies in their fearlessness and audacity.  With the release of their new LP FOREVER, Code Orange are quickly cementing their place as one of the boldest and most dynamic bands in heavy music.  Rolling Stone exclaimed, “FOREVER captures some of the most punishing noise the band has recorded to date, featuring songs rife with sudden transitions to still-harsher textures,” while The FADER selected Code Orange as one of “13 Artists You Need To Know About in 2017.”  NPR declared that “FOREVER, the band’s…third album, is among its most bruising works, with surprises throughout,” while Stereogum exclaimed, “The ferocious Pittsburgh hardcore bruisers Code Orange have long been one of the most restless, feverish groups within their genre, and their willingness to experiment has set them apart.”

ANTHRAX ANNOUNCES ITS OWN CRAFT BEER – “WARDANCE”

Band’s Fans Helped Shape The Taste of the Ale
Wardance is a beer you can drink over and over again.  And I have.” – Scott Ian

LOS ANGELES, CA (Wednesday, January 25, 2017) — It’s funny how an offhanded comment can make a dream come true, but that’s exactly what happened with thrash icons Anthrax.
Last year, the members of the band were hanging out at New York’s West Village bar Daddy-O and mentioned to owner Phil Casacelli how they’d love to have their own brand of beer.  Casacelli, a long-time fan of upstate New York’s Butternuts Beer & Ale Brewery, made a call to Chuck Williamson, owner of Butternuts, a metalhead and a long-time Anthrax fan, and everything started to fall into place for what would become Anthrax’s own craft beer, Wardance.  Wardance will be available in stores, bars and restaurants where craft beer is sold in New York State beginning March 27.  Plans are in the works to expand the distribution to other states around the country.
Said Anthrax’s Scott Ian, “I’ve wanted to do our own beer for a long time, it was just finding the right guy to make that a reality.  I am a fan of Butternuts, especially their Porkslap Pale Ale, and when I found out that Chuck was interested in doing a beer with us I immediately said yes.”
“Finding the right taste that all of us loved was really important,” Anthrax’s Charlie Benante explained, “but it was also important that the beer not leave people feeling heavy or filled up afterwards.  The other thing I love about our beer is that it goes really well with a burger.  It’s the one beer to have when you’re having a ‘Wardance.'”
Working closely with Williamson and his partner on the Wardance project, marketing guru David “Rev” Ciancio (who also counts Anthrax as one of his all-time personal favorites), Anthrax’s Ian, Benante, and Frank Bello wanted a distinct flavor for Wardance, one that would fit not only the band members’ personal preferences, but that their fans would enjoy as well.
“I spoke to Chuck and we talked about what we like/don’t like and what I would want from our beer,” added Ian.  “It was simple, a beer that would be very drinkable yet still have flavor.”
They decided on a pale ale style with a special blend of malts and hops to give it a unique flavor, and a “first batch” was brewed.  Williamson and Rev did a tasting with the band on their tour bus parked outside the St. Vitus club the night Anthrax headlined a benefit show there last September for Gilda’s Club NYC.  In addition and unbenownst to the band’s fans, a keg of that “first batch” was poured at the St. Vitus show with Williamson and Rev taking feedback from the fans.  Taking band and fans comments into consideration, Williamson did a little more tinkering in the beer lab with the ale’s recipe, one more Anthrax tasting which received a unanimous thumbs up from the band, and Wardance Pale Ale, available in 12 oz. cans, was inaugurated.
Wardance (5.5% abv) is brewed using a blend of both New York State and North American two-row malt barley and a blend of special malts to add color and depth of flavor.  The hops are sourced through New York State and West Coast growers.  A percent of the hops is added in the boil kettle and a percent post fermentation to create a unique flavor profile that balances the rich flavor and aroma of the specialty malts with the delicate aroma of the select hops.  The result is a recognizable beer with a unique character that sets Wardance apart from other beers out in the market today.
Anthrax will hit the road beginning March 29, co-headlining a 27-date North American tour – Killthrax – with Killswitch Engage, and The Devil Wears Prada as main support.  Dates and more info are here.

New York, NY (December 20, 2016) – NYC’s own WYLDLIFE is set to bring its bright and brash rock & roll attitude on the road, announcing a run of winter dates. The tour, which spans Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas and more major U.S. cities, coincides with the quartet’s new album, Out on Your Block,  available via Wicked Cool Records on Jan 20.

Hear “Contraband” via Soundcloud | Spotify | iTunes

On the heels of two self-released albums and fast, loud shows which quickly established them as an East Coast live favorite, this four-piece outift is poised to rock farther and wider with its sophomore LP. The album, which is one of the first releases in Wicked Cool’s new partnership with The Orchard, was recorded in Atlanta on a shoestring budget and recently announced via Facebook Video by Steven Van Zandt, E Street Band guitarist, host of Little Steven’s Underground Garage and proprietor of Wicked Cool Records.

WYLDLIFE’s inspirations run from titans like Jagger, Bowie, Iggy and the Ramones to New York Dolls, The Replacements, The Only Ones and Richard Hell. Their forthcoming LP oozes with the spirit of youth, sex, drugs and partying, helping Dave Feldman (vocals), Sam Allen (guitar), Spencer Alexander (bass) and Stevie Dios(drums) stay true to their charmingly ragged aesthetic and carry the torch for modern glam and garage rock today.

Wicked Cool Records evolved out of “Little Steven” Van Zandt’s weekly syndicated radio show and SiriusXM channel, Little Steven’s Underground Garage. Van Zandt founded the label as a way to further support new rock & roll that wasn’t receiving the recognition it deserved. Among the label’s releases are the new album In Orbit by Kurt Baker Combo plus ten critically acclaimed compilations including Halloween A Go-Go, Christmas A Go-Go and The Coolest Songs In The World Volumes 1-8, featuring music from the Underground Garage. In 2016, Wicked Cool Records began a unique distribution deal and partnership with The Orchard encompassing both the label’s back catalog and all new Wicked Cool releases.

REVIEW: Queensyrche at the Historic Rex Theatre Pittsburgh

Review and Pix: Ed Thompson

There has been much to say over the years about Geoff Tate’s departure from Queensryche in 2012.  The question about his replacement; Todd La Torre was whether Todd had the pipes to fill the job much like Steve Augeri or Arnel Pinera did to The Voice, Steve Perry of Journey. Since 2012, I personally was unable to get to a Queensryche show to see the if Todd could or not. I read the great reviews about his and his filling of the role. But yesterday here in Pittsburgh PA.  Queensryche made yet another visit to the great city of Pittsburgh at the Historic Rex Theatre in the beautiful South Side district for their “Condition Human” tour and I was lucky enough to get the chance to not only see the show for shooting the show and review it for Pittsburgh Music Magazine.  Merry Christmas to me!!

I rarely have complaints about bands that I truly like and look forward to seeing.  I wait for weeks or even months to see them these days. This time, with Queensryche though, I do have a complaint and it’s simple one to fix. Next time, PLAY MORE OF QUEENSRYCHE.  It’s nice getting a band or two to warm up the crowd and get the atmosphere “right” for the headliner to come out, however with a band like Queensryche, I want to be spoiled and get the full effect and 20 plus songs. Of course, I am joking. To an extent.  With the catalog and the hits and the persona that Todd La Torre has, filling a 2.5-hour spot is not too much to ask. They could do it easily and actually do this on many nights across the country on this tour. All depends on of the number of warm-up acts.

The band came out after the two warm up acts of New York’s Midnight Eternal and the always electrifying Armored Saint to a very excited crowd of Pittsburghers and even a few Ohio travelers from what I heard talking to people before the show.  I saw in a review of the concert too on their site that someone made the trip from NY also where the band played the night before.  Todd La Torre came out oozing with pure energy as expected.  HIS voice, to me, was incredible.  There were a few times I closed my eyes and honestly couldn’t tell the difference between Todd and Geoff in the 1990’s. Sure the “Sryche Faithfull” may miss Geoff, but my God, Todd is MORE than an adequate replacement. And I use the word “replacement” because it’s been almost 5 years. Geoff is not coming back to this band.  This band is Todd’s and he is performing at an “ABOVE MEETS REQUIREMENTS” as the lead singer or frontman. Seeing Todd sipping on hot tea throughout the show with what I’m guessing was topped with some honey, was great to see in regards to him taking care of his voice for the future of this band. It’s refreshing to see a front man caring about his voice these days and secondly taking acre of it.

The band went right to the energy of their catalog with Guardian, Operation:, Mindcrime and Best I Can and not only put me in my “Happy Place” for the event but also the 4000 plus at the Rex Theatre. Damaged, The Killing Words and The Mission set up for the flashback to the band’s 1990’s BEST HITS of Silent Lucidity, Empire, and Jet City Woman. In that order too.  The band blew the roof off The Rex in Pittsburgh with JCW.  The crowd sang along with them too on it like it was 1991 all over again. And set the pace for the rest for the evening’s set.

They continued on with the hits belting out Take Hold of the Flame, Screaming In Digital and finally Eyes of a Stranger.  Eyes of a Stranger was song # 14 of the night and the final song of the set and leads me back to the point that I made earlier. It would have been great to get a few more hits. But it’s all good.  I was more than happy to get my Queensryche-fill a few weeks before Christmas.

I think Queensryche will be back to Pittsburgh. Possibly soon too. The crowd REALLY loved what they put out and the show they gave. In the days of bands like Queensryche touring the country in 2016, that’s all that matters. Additionally, I fully expect them to be back with Todd La Torre. This is HIS band now. Without a doubt. He now not only has the pipes to fill the position night in and night out, but also the charisma and personality. Todd’s the real deal and the ONLY logical replacement for Geof Tate. Can’t wait to see this band again. Soon.  Very soon.

The outfit has since recorded and completed several other new titles, yet returns to the debut album for a series of videos beginning here. Captured in various sectors of New York and Pennsylvania over the Summer, the visual stimulant for the song was solely filmed and edited by the outfit’s lone creator, as with the others in the series, which are currently under construction.

The Halloween-released Further Layers Of Societal Collapse EP is available for free download HERE, and the limited split cassette with NEVER PRESENCE FOREVER — due out on December 23rd — is available for streaming and preorder via NEVER PRESENCE FOREVER HERE and GRIDFAILUREHERE.
The works of GRIDFAILURE are the haunted experimentations of David Brenner (ex-Theologian, ex-Heidnik). The soloist has been collaborating with a wide cast of henchpersons across the country and beyond over the past several months, and is currently finishing up the final recordings for the cannibalistic post-Sixth Mass Extinction dementia of impending second album, Teeth Collection, for release in early 2017. Also, heavily underway is the construction of Drought Stick, which has somehow transformed from an investigational EP into an epic collection which explores more spacious, echoing movements fit for somnambulant wasteland deviations. Drought Stick will see 2017 release as a double conceptual album.
GRIDFAILURE has also rapidly completed most of a new EP, Hostile Alchemy, which will see release ahead of both Teeth Collection and Drought Stick in January 2017. Stand by for audio from the new EP in the coming days.

ANTI-FLAG Drop New Video, Reveal Fall Tour Plans/ Pittsburgh date 11/3 @MrSmalls

ANTI-FLAG ANNOUNCE END OF THE YEAR TOUR DATES

BAND RELEASES LIVE VIDEO FOR “TO HELL WITH BOREDOM”

ANTI-FLAG have revealed plans for the rest of 2016. The band has booked a handful of shows in the U.S. and will embark on an Australian tour that runs from December 5 through December 11, along with three key dates in Southeast Asia. (See graphic below).
About the trek, the band said, “Pittsburgh to Australia isn’t an easy commute… when we get there we want it to be special. This tour is no different, celebrating 10 years of ‘For Blood and Empire,’ we will be performing the record and then an encore of all audience requests. It’s going to be a unique show to say the least. As always, the emphasis will be on community, solidarity, and empathy. We look forward to sharing this tremendously important record from our band’s life with a part of the world that we have found solace and family in for years.”
The U.S. shows include a November 3 hometown show in Pittsburgh, Pa., at Mr. Smalls Theatre right before Election Day. The band will also play Washington, D.C. on November 30. The shows are part of the Rock Against The TPP tour, organized by Fight for the Future and a coalition of anti-TPP organizations highlighting the disastorous effects of the so called  “trade deal” –  the Trans-Pacific Partnership. More info on Rock Against The TPP can be found HERE.
The band also said, “The Rock Against The TPP shows that we have played across the U.S. and Canada were so amazing that we had to curate one in our beloved hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh, an international epicenter of the labor movement, a city where union loyalty and the fight for human rights courses through the veins of its citizens to this very day. The Rock Against The TPP shows are beyond educational, they’re inspirational. They are a true testament to music’s ability to bring people together and create positive change; a rally to energize us all to continue to fight against The TPP and all of the ills it will bring to the world.”
The band will play its final show of the year at New York City’s Irving Plaza on December 17 with Bouncing Souls and Up For Nothing.
Additionally, ANTI-FLAG have just dropped their live, behind-the-scenes video for “To Hell With Boredom” from 2015’s American Spring. The clip was directed by Maxim Frolov and was shot while the band was on tour in the Czech Republic this past summer.

CARCASS continues to tour in support of Surgical Steel, released in September 2013. The record came in at #41 on the US Billboard Top 200 Chart, just narrowly avoiding the dreaded “Top 40 Band” moniker. Even with their impressive back catalogue, Surgical Steel has given the band their highest charting and possibly most critically acclaimed record to date.

Surgical Steel
was produced by Colin Richardson (Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, Gorefest, Cannibal Corpse etc.) and mixed/mastered by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Accept, Exodus, Testament). Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in the band’s current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (Aborted, Trigger The Bloodshed) and guitarist Ben Ash (Pig Iron, Desolation, Liquefied Skeleton). Original sticksman Ken Owen contributed guest vocals as well.

CARCASS has released several classic albums over the years, including Decibel Magazine “Hall of Fame” inductees Heartwork and Necroticism – Descanting The Insalubrious, and their influence has changed the face of extreme metal with every consecutive release. Whether it was inventing gore-grind (see Reek Of Putrefaction, Symphonies Of Sickness) or creating the template for melodic death metal (see Heartwork), CARCASS has always made records by which bars were set and rules were broken. Upon the band’s dismantling in 1996, fans mourned the loss of the seminal act and longed that the group would return again one day. In 2007, the metal world got its wish as CARCASS reformed to play several sold-out reunion shows around the globe. Once again re-motivated to administer a shot of cynicism and infectious riffs into the arm of a sickly metal scene, founding members Bill Steer and Jeff Walker began writing what would become the latest output of their highly influential career,Surgical Steel. Only the choicest of cuts were made, and blood sweat and tears were shed to bring us a record worthy of the CARCASS legacy. In short, Surgical Steel is just what the doctor ordered.

Book Of Shadows II was released on April 8th, 2016 via Entertainment One Music (eOne Music), Zakk Wylde’s first solo release in 20 years. This release is the highly anticipated follow up to 1996’s Book of Shadows LP, a classic album Wylde released between his work with Ozzy Osbourne that has since become a fan favorite. The album debuted at #2 on the Independent Chart, #3 on the Rock Chart and # 6 on the Current Albums Chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The fearlessly introspective melancholy and melody of Book of Shadows helped to make its follow-up one of Rolling Stone’s Most Anticipated Albums of 2016. As fierce and diverse as his work in Black Label Society and as large as his accomplishments as lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne have been,Book of Shadows II offers an even richer look into the spirit and psyche of one of the most beloved pillars of the hard rock community. Brand new tracks like “Sleeping Dogs,” “Tears of December,” “Darkest Hour,” “Harbors of Pity,” and “The King” are bold proclamations of intense feeling and powerful catharsis.

Zakk Wylde’s powerful pipes, mayhem-inducing charisma, mischievous humor, and instantly recognizable pinch-harmonic driven blues based histrionic guitar shredding have made him the world’s most beloved American Guitar Hero.

“Whether he’s unplugged or fully electric, Wylde’s guitar skills are never in doubt, and that’s definitely the case on Book of Shadows II. Certainly not a party album, it’s one better enjoyed kicking back, mellowing out and letting the emotions wash over you.” LOUDWIRE

“Somber, introspective, and Allman-esque, Wylde integrates soulful acoustic singer-songwriting with a strong ensemble and a variety of contemplative moods.” VINTAGE GUITAR

The 30-track presentation features the original album’s 10 songs, both in the studio, and in their early acoustic demo form, as well as two bonus demos that were never recorded in the studio. The demos, called, “Big Beige/4th St,” were named after band frontman, Claudio Sanchez‘s home, “The Big Beige” in upstate NY as well as his old apartment in Brooklyn, “4th Street” – since he wrote and documented them in each residence. These mostly acoustic demo tracks had previously only been made available to core fans who purchased the band’s Limited Edition Deluxe Box set, which featured a 76 page physical book.  Also included in “Deconstructed” are 7 live “bootleg” tracks pulled straight from the soundboard from various dates on their recent US headline tour, that expose a very raw look at the band.

Coheed and Cambria’s ten song album, The Color Before The Sun was released in October 2015 via 300 Entertainment, marking a bold departure for the NY-based band. It was their first non-conceptual album, pausing the beloved The Amory Wars, a seven-album science fiction saga that also bore a comic book empire, in favor of a more personal outing.  “It’s very much a time capsule of the two years leading up to this recording,” Claudio Sanchez said. “I first created The Amory Wars in 1998 because at the time, I was afraid to share my personal stories. I didn’t want them or the subject matter to be judged, so I translated my personal experiences into these fictitious characters and landscapes so I could hide behind them. With The Color Before the Sun, I figured it was time to pull back the curtain.”
Rolling Stone declared The Color Before The Sun “a dramatic departure,” Noisey said the new album proves “there are no boundaries for a Coheed and Cambria album” and Alternative Press, in a four-star review, added “the album pops and pulsates with signature Coheed wails and riffs.” The Nerdist, who premiered the band’s ode to the ‘80s video for “You Got Spirit, Kid”, said the new music “features much of what has made Coheed and Cambria a force for the last two decades.” The Color Before The Sun was Coheed and Cambria’s 6th consecutive Top 10 Billboard charting album, and their third to debut at #5 on the Billboard top current chart with 32,000 units sold.
Coheed and Cambria will be on the road in The States this Fall, on a massive tour with Saves The Day and Polyphia.  Kicking off in Seattle this September, the tour takes the band through U.S. markets including a sold out show in Sacramento,  Chainfest in Santa Ana, CA (with Portugal the Man and Title Fight), a handful of stops in Canada and closing out with an already sold out show at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey.
The band will also be touring through the UK this August, appearing at Leeds and Reading Festival, with additional dates with La Dispute and mewithoutYou.
“Deconstructed Deluxe is available now via 300 Entertainment and can be purchased on  iTunesAmazon and GooglePlay and is available for streaming via Spotify.

– The New York Times

” …off-center chords and steady beat of opener “Lights” could make you think of Sonic Youth in a quieter moment.”

Guitarist Nir Felder’s debut album Golden Age was released January 21st via OKeh.Golden Age puts Nir’s skills as a composer and songwriter at the forefront of his creative design, supported by virtuosic technique. To experience Nir Felder’s live performance is at once both technically fascinating and charming. With rave reviews across the board for the record, today we share a live video of album track “Lover” which premiered withNPR’s WNYC. Watch the “Lover” live video HERE, and we encourage you to post & share!

Though not a concept album, the title Golden Age provides a unifying sentiment- one of ambiguity & duality. As Nir explains, “it’s more of a question than a statement. We’ve seen a lot of change in recent years- in the music industry, in music technology, in our world, our country, and our city, New York.” The album deals with “nostalgia for the 1980s and early ‘90s, when times were rough and unsafe but art and culture were flourishing. Was that a ‘golden age’? Is this one? Has there really ever been one?The question is always, according to whom? So, there is a lack of clarity about whether things are going great or they’re really bad, and the music reflects that.”

Nir recruited pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Matt Penman & drummer Nate Smith to help bring his unique musical vision to life. To augment the band’s instrumental take on those questions, he studied dozens of legendary speeches by politicians, civil rights leaders & cultural heroes, and mixed spoken-word samples from Barbara JordanJesse Jackson,Hilary ClintonMalcolm XRichard Nixon & others into the new tracks. The results aresweeping, cinematic impressions of history brought into the present moment.

RESOLUTION15 to Release New Album ‘Svaha’ on January 15

“…[the violins] bring a constant barrage of heavy riffs that would give most guitar-driven bands a run for their money in the brutal department, and when combined with a touch of technicality from the rest of the band, RESOLUTION15 bring something truly riveting to the table. They’re the kind of band that instantly turns the heads of the old, jaded metalheads hanging back at the bar… what… is…. this?… wow!” – MetalSucks.net

“…violins have been attached to folk metal and other oblong versions of what you might consider to be metal, but what was being belted out onstage was nowhere near folk, chamber music or anything along those lines. This [RESOLUTION15] is thrash. This is loud. This is a kick in the fucking face.” – Metal Edge

“…there are very few bands that offer the musicality, the intensity, and the vibe that RESOLUTION 15 from New York City is offering currently.” – HornsUpRocks.com

“…a unique and equally dynamic band that is sure to raise your brow.” – MetalInjection.net

New York, NY’s RESOLUTION15 is well known in the local scene for being a unique and welcomed twist on heavy metal– praise primarily based on their usage of violins in the place of guitars in their blistering thrash, punk and hardcore-influenced music. Additionally inspired by classical music and fuelled by an interest in spreading an egalitarian message of global change, the band feels that the use of violins adds to their artistic message and offers listeners something a little different than the norm.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign designed to raise funds for its recording, the band’s new album Svaha will see its official release on January 15, 2013. Recording took place at Spin Studios and Nova Studios with Ryan Kelly and Stacy O’Dell as producers.

“‘Svaha’ means “So be it” in Sanskrit. The title is of dual significance to us,” states RESOLUTION15 electric violinist Earl Maneein. “The first is in regards to the spirit of how we recorded the album. Yes, the album was certainly edited, but it was more or less recorded in a “So be it” fashion with usually the second or third, and sometimes even the first complete take standing as the final cut. The second is in regards to our stance as a socially conscious band. The ideas we bring up lyrically deal with one’s own inner turmoil and how that relates to worldly experience and action. ‘Svaha’ is the last word in the Heart Sutra, and it serves as a kind of “Amen”. So we would like the listener to feel like this is our sincere commentary on the world as it is through our eyes, and also encourage them to find their own awareness.”

In 2007, RESOLUTION15 released a self-titled debut and quickly became a fixture in the New York metal scene, performing at countless shows and drawing fans and local press in with their unique sound. The band’s last EP, Satyagraha, was released in April 2010 with Corey Unger (guitarist of the seminal New England metalcore band Blood Has Been Shed) as producer.

RESOLUTION15 consists of Earl Maneein on 7 string electric violin, Kenny Grohowski on drums, Mike Bendykowski on bass, and Nick Serr on vocals.

Parquet Courts Share “Borrowed Time” And Announce Winter Tour/Pittsburgh 1/8/13

LISTEN TO “BORROWED TIME”

“This record is for the over-socialized victims of the 1990’s ‘you can be anything you want’, Nickelodeon-induced lethargy that ran away from home not out of any wide-eyed big city daydream, but just out of a subconscious return to America’s scandalous origin,” writes Parquet Courts’ songwriter A. Savage in Light Up Gold’s scratched-out liner notes.

The band’s first proper LP is a dynamic and diverse foray into the back alleys of the American DIY underground. Bright guitars swirl serpentine over looping, groovy post-punk bass lines and drums that border on robotic precision. Primary wordsmiths Savage and Austin Brown combine for a dynamic lyrical experience, one part an erudite overflow of ideas, the other an exercise in laid-back observation. Recorded over a few days in an ice-box practice space, Light Up Gold is equally indebted to Krautrock, The Fall, and a slew of contemporaries like Tyvek and Eddy Current Suppression Ring.

Though made up of Texan transplants, Parquet Courts are a New York band. Throw out the countless shallow Brooklyn bands of the blasé 2000’s: Light Up Gold is a conscious effort to draw from the rich culture of the city – the bands like Sonic Youth, Bob Dylan, and the Velvet Underground that are not from New York, but of it. A panoramic landscape of dilapidated corner-stores and crowded apartments is superimposed over bare-bones Americana, leaving little room for romance or sentiment. It’s punk, it’s American, it’s New York… it’s the color of something you were looking for. Light Up Gold is out now on Dull Tools.

“‘Borrowed Time’ is a huge highlight led by a propulsive earworm guitar hook and quick-paced, no frills percussion loaded with momentum.” – Pitchfork

Ambassadors Release “Unconsolable” Video Featuring Zosia Mamet From Girls

Watch “Unconsolable” video ft. Zosia Mamet from Girls

New York band Ambassasdors announce the release of a new video for their single “Unconsolable”. Directed by Gabriel Stanley, the video features Girls / Mad Men star Zosia Mamet as a deranged killer. “Unconsolable” is the latest single from Ambassadors debut LP Litost out now.

On making the video for “Unconsolable”:

Zosia Mamet (Girls):
“I’d never shot a music video before and this was a perfect introduction. I couldn’t have had more fun. Everyone was a joy and a pleasure to work with. Playing a crazy murderess, not a bad way to spend an evening. Ps love the song. A favorite on my running mix.”

Sam Harris (Ambassadors):
“I wanted the video to walk the line between the fantastical and the obscene in a very specific way. Theres an innocent curiosity to the way Zosia’s character interacts with all those spectral, fairy-like white lines that almost boarders on cute. Then, she flips the fuckin’ script on us (the viewer) and uses them to brutally kill me. It’s almost comical the way it happens. I love that feeling, when you don’t quite know whether to be disgusted or elated.”

Gabriel Stanley (Director):
“Ambassadors’ music and subsequent album art all reflect a very simple, elegant, and dark kind of symmetry of motion. I really wanted to capture that while establishing an interesting story with a violent twist.”
