JACK JOHNSON’S ALBUM ‘ALL THE LIGHT ABOVE IT TOO,’ AVAILABLE NOW

Multi-platinum recording artist Jack Johnson has released his 7th studio album, All The Light Above It Too, today through Johnson’s own Brushfire Records label & Republic Records. Fans are able to purchase the album through all music retailers, all online platforms including www.jackjohnsonmusic.com/store. In celebration of the release, Johnson will perform the first single, “My Mind Is For Sale” as well as “Big Sur” tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Check out All The Light Above It Too Here!

The new album is Johnson’s first since 2013. “This album shares what has been on my mind during the past year or so,” says Johnson. “A year in which I sailed through the North Atlantic Gyre for a documentary about plastic pollution in the ocean. A year in which Trump was elected as the President of the United States. A year in which I camped, surfed, got stitches, explored, dreamed, shared time and endless conversations with my family and friends…all of which inspired these songs. I usually make sketches of the songs first then set up a time to actually record the album. This time around the original sketches became the final versions. I didn’t want to lose any of the spirit that a song has in its rawest form.” To finish out the record Johnson called upon producer Robbie Lackritz (Feist, Bahamas), along with his longtime band mates to play on a few of the tracks.

Johnson will return to the road for fall tour dates, following a successful sold-out summer tour. Tour stops include the Southeastern US, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Australia and New Zealand. Fall dates kick off September 27th in Virginia Beach, VA. Complete list of tour dates below. In conjunction with the upcoming tour of the Southeastern US, Johnson will be directing funds to relief efforts in the impacted areas from the recent Hurricanes.

ABOUT BRUSHFIRE RECORDS
Brushfire Records was born in 2002 at The Mango Tree studio in Hawaii when Jack Johnson along with longtime friend Emmett Malloy, wanted to create their own record label to put out the soundtracks for surf films they had been making under The Moonshine Conspiracy banner. The Moonshine Conspiracy, a surf film collaborative now known as Woodshed Films, was formed by Jack Johnson and Emmett Malloy in 1998 during the creation of their renowned surf film Thicker Than Water. Brushfire Records not only gave them the opportunity to release music from their surf films but to release Jack’s music as well as connect and support other musicians, artists and friends who’s work they liked and respected. In its fourteen years, Brushfire has since moved to Los Angeles where they have custom-built their own solar powered studio, The Solar Powered Plastic Plant, while continuing to release new music and films.

About LAMB OF GOD:
Richmond, VA natives LAMB OF GOD are one of heavy music’s most successful and uncompromising bands.  When the band’s first major release, New American Gospel, was released in 2000 it was immediately touted as a classic within the genre. AllMusic stated it best, “The essential signatures of post-Pantera metal are in abundance on Lamb of God’s inaugural album. New American Gospel provides a mighty oak upon which gritty American metal’s faith is maintained, effectively bridging the ’90s’ insistence upon drill-sergeant technicality and the old school’s determined focus on riff construction.”
Some predicted a sophomore slump – that no band could top a debut album so strong.  They were proven wrong, with the release of 2004’s Ashes of the Wake, an album that not only exploded stateside (certified Gold by RIAA) but also saw the spread of LAMB OF GOD to all corners of the world.  The band’s first DVD, Killadelphia, followed shortly after and was certified Platinum.  Then, with Sacrament (Album, 2006, #8 debut on the US Billboard Hot 200), LAMB OF GOD were honored with a Grammy nomination for the track “Redneck”, which would be the first of five Grammy nominations for the band to date. Next came Walk With Me In Hell (DVD, 2008) and then the band’s fourth album Wrath in 2009, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 200 Chart, and then Resolution, which debuted at #3. Shortly after the release of Resolution, vocalist Randy Blythe was arrested in Prague, and spent 30 days in jail on a charge for which he was later acquitted (and lead to Blythe’s bestselling memoir, Dark Days, as well as the film As The Palaces Burn).  After regrouping, LAMB OF GOD lost no ground with their latest full-length album, VII: Sturm Und Drang, the album was #3 in the US, #1 in Canada, #2 in Australia, #3 in Finland, #7 in UK, #12 in Germany and #13 in Japan, and #13 in Netherlands. “Overlord“, the first single from VII: Sturm Und Drang, achieved a new milestone for the band when it reached the Top Thirty of US Active Rock Radio Chart (Mediabase).  Most recently, late last year LAMB OF GOD paid tribute to late, longtime fan and friend Wayne Ford with the release of The Duke EP, which raised funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The EP release coincided with a charity campaign offering personal items such as Blythe’s Ashes Of The Wake Gold plaque, signed signature model guitars, handwritten lyrics and more.
Since inception and through it all, LAMB OF GOD‘s consistent and unwavering commitment to their music – and their fans – has kept them a critical and fan favorite worldwide, selling millions of albums and tickets around the world.
LAMB OF GOD is Randy Blythe (vocals), Mark Morton (guitar), Willie Adler (guitar), John Campbell (bass), and Chris Adler (drums).

“We’ve been working on some upgrades to the production and the live sound, which includes welcoming our brother, Clint Lowery into the fold to help us thicken up that live sound experience,” Seether vocalist/guitarist Shaun Morgan said. “We want this tour to be exciting and different — a departure from what people expect from us, while retaining the qualities that make us unique, in order to entertain the fans. It’s going to be loud, heavy, old school Seether with a couple of twists thrown in to keep things exciting.”

The Daniel Bennett Group has been featured in the Washington Post, Boston Globe, NPR, Indianapolis Public Radio, San Francisco Examiner, St. Louis Public Radio and the Village Voice. The Village Voice raves, “saxophonist Daniel Bennett makes hay with an airy approach that’s buoyant enough to conjure notions of East African guitar riffs and Steve Reich’s pastoral repetition.”  Time Out New York describes the music as, “hypnotic.” Daniel Bennett studied saxophone at the prestigious New England Conservatory in Boston. During his time in Boston, Bennett performed regularly with the Portland Symphony and the New Hampshire Festival Orchestra. Bennett also toured Italy and Switzerland with renowned Boston jazz ensemble, Musaner. In addition to leading his own band, Daniel Bennett performs in Broadway and Off-Broadway theater productions in New York City. Daniel Bennett recently composed the musical score for stage adaptations of ‘Frankenstein’ and ‘Brave Smiles’ at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Manhattan. Daniel Bennett recently played woodwinds in ‘Blank! The Musical,’ the first fully improvised Off-Broadway musical to launch on a national stage. The show was produced by Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade, and Improv Boston. The New York Times called the show, “Witty, Likable and Ludicrous!” Daniel Bennett’s theatrical works have strongly influenced his eclectic sound and musical storytelling abilities as a bandleader. The Daniel Bennett Group performs every month at Tomi Jazz in midtown Manhattan. New Yorker Magazine calls Tomi Jazz, “a favorite out-of-the-way Japanese jazz club.” Daniel Bennett is an official endorsing artist for Morgan Mouthpieces.

Featuring the acclaimed singles “Sure”, “Cloud 9“, “Helpless“, “Blue” and “Miracle“, the highly anticipated album, 131, was released in July via Hopeless Records and garnered incredible praise with Substream Magazine saying “We don’t hesitate to proclaim Emarosa is better now than ever before” and Chorus.fm stating that “‘131’ shatters the mold the band previously sat in and stands out as a modern rock masterpiece that delivers hit after heart-felt hit.”
131 was produced in Nashville by Casey Bates, who is known for his work with artists like Portugal The Man, Chiodos, PierceThe Veil, Memphis May Fire, Gatsbys American Dream and many more. During the recording process, the band made a conscious effort to throw all expectations to the side and record the album they always wanted to make, free of all external pressures. As a result, the record takes a pop-turn, reflecting Walden’s diverse influences, including Michael Jackson and PatrickStump, while still retaining Emarosa’s signature grittiness. Fans old and new will enjoy the dynamic sounds of 131.
On 131‘s evolved sound, Walden explores the boundaries of rock and infuses these epically charged anthems with an even fuller sense of grandeur than on past releases. “I’m so proud of this. It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done. This is the record we wanted to make,” he shares.

Emarosa’s current line up includes Bradley Scott Walden, ER White, Jordan Stewart and Matthew Marcellus.
131 is now available for purchase at the following links:

CARCASS continues to tour in support of Surgical Steel, released in September 2013. The record came in at #41 on the US Billboard Top 200 Chart, just narrowly avoiding the dreaded “Top 40 Band” moniker. Even with their impressive back catalogue, Surgical Steel has given the band their highest charting and possibly most critically acclaimed record to date.

Surgical Steel
was produced by Colin Richardson (Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, Gorefest, Cannibal Corpse etc.) and mixed/mastered by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Accept, Exodus, Testament). Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in the band’s current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (Aborted, Trigger The Bloodshed) and guitarist Ben Ash (Pig Iron, Desolation, Liquefied Skeleton). Original sticksman Ken Owen contributed guest vocals as well.

CARCASS has released several classic albums over the years, including Decibel Magazine “Hall of Fame” inductees Heartwork and Necroticism – Descanting The Insalubrious, and their influence has changed the face of extreme metal with every consecutive release. Whether it was inventing gore-grind (see Reek Of Putrefaction, Symphonies Of Sickness) or creating the template for melodic death metal (see Heartwork), CARCASS has always made records by which bars were set and rules were broken. Upon the band’s dismantling in 1996, fans mourned the loss of the seminal act and longed that the group would return again one day. In 2007, the metal world got its wish as CARCASS reformed to play several sold-out reunion shows around the globe. Once again re-motivated to administer a shot of cynicism and infectious riffs into the arm of a sickly metal scene, founding members Bill Steer and Jeff Walker began writing what would become the latest output of their highly influential career,Surgical Steel. Only the choicest of cuts were made, and blood sweat and tears were shed to bring us a record worthy of the CARCASS legacy. In short, Surgical Steel is just what the doctor ordered.

Brit tech metal outfit, SikTh @MrSmalls Saturday August 27

The Brit tech metal outfit, SikTh (www.facebook.com/sikthofficial). The guys just arrived last week, as part of the ‘Sonic Unrest Tour,’ in direct support of Periphery, on their first ever tour on this side. They’ll be at Mr Smalls Saturday August 27.

SikTh formed in ’99, although spent the better part of 2008-2014 on hiatus & returned publicly, headlining the Red Bull Stage at Download, in ‘14.

They’re cited by a lot of bands as an influence, including the headliner, and are kind of a cornerstone that helped launch the djent tone/scene – along with the mighty Meshuggz.

This past December, they digitally released a new 6-track offering, on Peaceville, called ‘Opacities’ (and right after, hit the road with Slipknot). It’s their first new music in 10 years and will be physically released on LP/Cd versions, also on Peaceville, on September 16. For a sample, the new-ish track ‘Philistine Philosophies’ can be seen/heard @ www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8C0-8FACWo.

Chon and Toothgrinder round out the package for the 23-city trek, beginning August 4 in Raleigh, N.C. A full list of dates can be seen below. Stream a new teaser video for the upcoming trek on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/gG8QBJLyo-U. SikTh vocalist Mikee Goodman comments: “Touring America has always been a huge goal for SikTh; up to this point it hasn’t been possible, but we’re pleased to announce we are finally coming over as direct support to Periphery in August! August is a significant month in our career as it marks the 16th anniversary of our first release (‘The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out Wait for Something Wild’). We’ve taken our time, but this is a great tour and opportunity to play for our very patient fans in the U.S. and also make new fans!” SikTh is touring in support of its ‘Opacities’ mini-album, available on iTunes at: http://smarturl.it/Opacities_Digital.

‘Opacities’ will also see a physical release in North America this September 16 via Peaceville. Recorded at Lincoln’s Chapel Studios and produced by SikTh’s own Dan Weller and Justin Hill (mixed by Forrester Savell [Karnivool, Animals As Leaders, Dead Letter Circus]), ‘Opacities’ was described by guitarist Dan Weller as a “more thoughtful, heavier, more refined” record. This is demonstrated in the video for “Philistine Philosophies,” which was directed and created by Mikee W. Goodman and can be seen online at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8C0-8FACWo. ‘Opacities’ marks the first SikTh release since taking a hiatus in 2008 before reforming at the U.K.’s Download Festival in 2014.

Trophy Scars Announce New Album “Holy Vacants” Out 4/8

Listen to “Hagiophobia”

Trophy Scars, it’s fair to say, don’t believe in doing things by halves. In fact, they’re more inclined to do things in doubles. The upcoming album from the Morristown, New Jersey quartet, Holy Vacants, was initially worked up as a 35-page screenplay treatment by vocalist and lyricist Jerry Jones, and is conceptually even more ambitious than 2011’s Never Born, Never Dead EP, which took reincarnation as its theme.

For the band’s fourth album, Jones, John Ferrara (guitarist), Andy Farrel (bass player) and Brian Ferrara (drummer) use as a springboard a bizarre cocktail of mythology, ancient religion and conspiracy theory surrounding the Nephilitic gene. The album tells the tale of two lovers who have discovered not only that the blood of angels contains the fountain of youth but also the formula for Qeres, an ancient Egyptian perfume claimed to be the only substance that can kill angels and Nephilites, who are supposedly the offspring of angel/human unions. Armed with this knowledge and a supply of precious Qeres, the couple embarks on a killing spree, drinking spilled Nephilitic blood to stop growing old.
Jones’ narrative may be conceptually out-there, but it doesn’t fence the album in and stands as a metaphor for far simpler and more widely recognized issues – the idealization of youth, loss of identity and corrupted innocence. It’s also his personal way of drawing a line under an intense past relationship.

“I didn’t want to write something so direct and specific that I had to follow the story the whole way through,” the singer explained. “When it boils down to it, the themes are applicable to romantic love songs. The album was really an exorcism of a relationship with a girl I had proposed to, and it was about being so in love with somebody that they literally destroy you. The only way I know how to go through that kind of therapy is to present it as art. I had to write the album as a way of exorcising this person from my mind and soul.”

Listening to the likes of opener “Archangel” and “Qeres”, whose free-wheeling but complex and cathartic, psychedelic blues calls to mind Comets On Fire, it’s obvious the band have moved light years away from their post-hardcore early years. They reveal their admiration for fellow New Jersey son Springsteen, circa Darkness on the Edge of Town with “Crystallophobia”, “Everything Disappearing” and “Extant”, and for Jimi Hendrix via “Hagiophobia” Listen to it HERE, while elsewhere there are echoes of Guns N’ Roses and The Mars Volta. But what might sound like an unworkable agglomeration of disparate parts is an intense and cohesive, hugely compelling whole, with powerful contrasts that make for a visceral immediacy.

An invigorated future for a talented band that was about to bow out suggests that creativity is the elixir of life, rather than the blood of angel/human hybrids. Who knew?

REVIEW: Easy Company release their rocking new EP Hello World

Easy Company, a modern rock outfit based out of New Jersey, pack a solid rock punch on their EP Hello World. While far from the much used first line of code used by computer programmers to test out or teach a new program (i.e. the hello world program), the title aptly fits the band state of affairs and intent on this EP nicely. As their website states, Easy Company “takes cues from favorite artists such as the Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and various modern and classic rock acts” and it shows. As a band, it seems Easy Company knows who they are, what they like, and how they want to sound and they aren’t afraid to show it. Their hello world, while not too far removed from the sounds of other band is refreshingly straight forward and honest.

The EP starts out rocking and keeps moving for the remainder. There are no lulls or dull moments, and there is a great deal of potential for future releases. They are stated as saying “hopes to help people remember that rock and roll, rock and roll shows and big drums and guitars still throw one hell of a party.” If their sound is indicative of the vibe at their shows, I’m it’s nothing but a good time and a solid sound with these guys.

So if you’re looking for good old, ass kicking rock and roll head on over to their Soundcloud and check out Easy Company. Also, be sure to check them out live if they stop by your town. From the looks of things they might be head south and all around the East Coast, so stop out and give them a chance.

NJ’s Own WSOU Pirate Radio Hosts Radio-a –thon for Superstorm Sandy Relief.

Always a vital part of Seton Hall University from the time it signed on the air, WSOU began broadcasting on 89.5 FM on April 14, 1948. The station would never have gotten on the air without the dedication and inspiration of Monsignor Thomas J. Gillhooly, the station’s first faculty director.

Given the assignment by university president Monsignor James Kelly to create a radio station, Monsignor Gillhooly got WSOU up and running in just three months and provided a steady hand during the station’s early days. Assisting Monsignor Gillhooly in building WSOU was the station’s longtime chief engineer Tom Parnham, who helped construct the station and then remained with WSOU. A beloved teacher, mentor, friend and, of course, broadcast engineer, Mr. Parnham worked at WSOU from 1948 until his death in 1994.

New Jersey’s 89.5FM WSOU will be host a radio-thon collecting donations for Hurricane Sandy relief on Friday, November 30th. The radio-thon starts at 6AM and will run until midnight. They will be DJing regular rotation music and will be taking breaks to ask for donation. Listeners will be able to call up and pledge various amounts of money. If a listener pledges $25+, he/she will be mailed a WSOU prize pack (contains WSOU stickers, pens, bottle openers and a random CD). If the pledge amount is $50+ the listener will receive a special Hurricane Sandy relief t-shift we are making specifically for the occasion and the prize pack as well.

If the donation is $100+ the listener will receive a WSOU Hoodie, the shirt, and the prize pack. They will also be running raffles all day. Raffle tickets can be purchased separately at $25 each. Some of the prizes being raffled are a signed Slipknot poster (includes Paul Gray), a 3 Inches of Blood snowboard and a framed drum head signed by all members of Five Finger Death Punch. There are also many other signed pieces of memorabilia to be given away. Their goal is to raise $8950 by the end of the day. They will have a slew of guest DJs throughout the day as well.

For more info or to donate please link here

WSOU’s studios were originally located in the basement of the university’s recreation center. In 1998, the station was moved to a state-of-the-art facility inside a new addition to the recreation center.

Since its inception, WSOU has always been a student-run radio station. Although a noncommercial station, WSOU’s staff structure is modeled on commercial radio, which provides students with enriching career-oriented educational experiences. Opportunities for student staff members include on-air hosting (DJ), production, promotion, newscasting, sportscasting, programming, sales and marketing, and engineering. WSOU draws students from all university colleges and programs, including communications, business, biology, education, nursing, sports management and diplomacy.

During its 58-year history, WSOU has gone through many changes. But one thing has not change – WSOU remains consistently dedicated to enriching the lives of Seton Hall students while entertaining and enlightening its listening audience.
